''I don't understand how it could change her eye color.'' Uncle Carter said to Aracelia over video chat.
''The stuff blown into Nevaeh face was suppose to blind her by melting her eyes out but being a Nephilim, her body resist it. It's an effect, a side effect of the herbs. And her ability to see the past with touch? I have no idea, another side effect I'm guessing.'' she said. ''Memoir Demons have that ability, but their blood is lethal. It must have been dried up and mixed into the herbs.''
''And how long does it last?" I asked and she bit her top lip, hesitating.
''I don't know, it depends.'' she said. ''If it happens threw hand-to-hand contact, don't touch someone hand. Wear gloves.''
''Great.'' I sarcastically said as I rolled my eyes.
''How are you, Nevaeh?" she asked, leaning closer to the web cam. ''I miss you.''
''I'm fine.'' I said. ''Other than my eyes a little itchy, I'm fine.''
''Well at least now you have my eye.'' she said jokingly since she had brown eyes. She cleared her throat awkwardly, ''But yes, you'll be alright. But you know, maybe I should come down and check myself in person—“
“Nice try, Aracelia.” Uncle Carter said and she glared at him. “You know the rules, no Angel help. Even, you'll be throwing yourself in front of Nevaeh every chance you can.”
“She's my daughter, I don't want to see her hurt.” she said. “If I want to come down and see her, I will and you can stop me Carter even if you wanted—hey, who's that sneaking in the back?”
I snapped around and glared at Dante, waving my arm for him to get out of the way. He rolled his eyes and crawled up on the bed, poking between us and stared at Aracelia. He raised an eyebrow and I swear, Aracelia was blushing.
“You're an Angel?” he asked and she nodded. “I never seen one, my Uncle is going to be so jealous. Do you have wings?”
I put my hand on his face and pushed him away, “You're blocking the screen, fathead.”
He pushed me back by my shoulder and put his finger against his mouth, “Shh, grownups are talking.” he grinned, patting the top of my head. My hands balled into a fist as I pressed my mouth together tightly, “Aw, how cute. The kid mad—ah!” he cried when I punched him. Not hard like the other day, but enough to knock him out of the way.
I grinned until Uncle Carter gave me a look, “Nevaeh!”
“Jeez, she sure is turning into her father.” Aracelia said. “He hated being mocking to.”

I saw Hadrian back when I turned the corner and a smile formed on my face. I always smile when I see Hadrian, it was weird how much I do it. I sneaked up behind him and he was too busy reading the book in his head. It was old as far as I could see and when I was behind him, I wrapped my arms around his waist.
He jumped and turned in my arm, “Nevaeh, don't sneak up on me! Do you know how many wars I fought in? I could have hurt you. Why are you wearing sunglasses?” he asked since I had dark sunglasses on my face. “You know it's night time, right?”
I scoffed, “Hadrian, promise not to freak out?”
“Why will I freak out?” he asked, shrugging.
I nervously licked my lips and taking my arms away from his waist, I reached up to the sunglasses. He looked confused at the white lace flowers hand gloves covering my hands as I took them off and he looked at my face.
His eyes widen, “Nevaeh, what happened? You're left eye is brown!”
“Oh really, Hadrian? I hadn't noticed.” I sarcastically said.
He scoffed and took my hand, pulling me under a street lamp. He put his hand under my chin and forced my head back, looking into my eyes, “What happened?”
“Oh, you know—Demons and their dust.” I said and he gave me a look to continue. I sighed, “Last night, I tried to take care of the Demon but he blew this stuff in my face. It should have burned my eyes right out of my sockets, but thankfully I’m a Nephilim. It made me blind for a moment until. . .”
“Until?” he questioned, concern.
“Well, Dante was there and I was reached out to grab a wall but I grabbed his hand. I saw a part of his memories and damn, was it scary. When I pulled away, I could see again. But now, I have a brown eye and ability to see people memories. I tried my Uncle Carter this morning and it still there. Explains the gloves, only happens on hand to hand contact.” I said.
“You can see into people past?” he asked and I nodded. He pulled away from my face and I gave him a confused look. He gave me a smile, “Oh, well it's good you're fine.”
“Wha—don't go there! What? What don't you want me to know?” I asked, glaring at him.
He shrugged, “I have a long past, no need to know it.”
“Huh? Well there's something you hiding.” I said.
“Nothing.”, he said, shaking his head. “When I was young, I wasn't the nicest guy. Forget it, Nevaeh.” he said, taking my hand and rubbed his thumb on the top of my right hand, looking down at it, “Do you really want to waste time talking about my past or go dancing with me?”
“Dancing?” I questioned. I moved my chin away and looked away embarrassed a little, “I still can't dance, Hadrian. I didn't even go to my senior prom.”
“Nick didn't try and take you?” he asked,
“He did, many times. It just didn't feel right going with him, even prom overrated.” I said, rolling my eyes. I was lying though, I had been excited for prom. Though my mom and Aracelia had been more excited than me, then devastated when I said I hadn't been going.
“You're a bad liar.” he said, chuckling and I hit him in his arm.
“I don't like the parties you go to anyways. I always feel out of place and if I see a Demon doing something, I have to stop It.”, I said.
“It's an old school jazz club, all humans. I went to it when a few good decades ago and I was surprised to see it still open.” he said. “And you're dressed perfectly for it.”

Hadrian was a show off.
But he did live in the 1920's already to be skilled in dancing to Jazz.
Hadrian was dancing with a lady and people around were impressed by how good he was. After he tried dragging me out onto the floor, he grabbed the lady next to us and they started dancing. When the band song ended, Hadrian kissed the lady hand who looked so surprised at how well Hadrian dancing was.
“Show off.”, I said when he walked over to me with a grin. “Not fair when you've been practicing for nineties years.”
He put arm on both sides of me as he leaned on the bar behind me since I was sitting on a stool in front of one. “I love the attention though.” he said, laughing. “Soul and jazz wasn't my favorite in the twenties and thirties, but I did love the dance. It was the most fun back in the day.”
He moved his face closer to mine, but I turned my head away with a blush forming my face. Hadrian mouth landed on my cheek and I chuckled, putting a hand on his chest to push him away, “We're in public, Hadrian.”
He sighed, “Fine.” he said and took my hand. He traced a flower that was laced into the glove with his thumb, “But this is a slow song, come.”
My eyes widen and my body went stiff when he pulled me off the chair and out into the dance floor. I glared at him, but he just looked amused as he put an arm around me. He took my hand as my other room rested on his shoulder. He pulled me close to his chest that I could probably rest my head on it. People around were slow dancing, most of them minding their business but a few curious people were watching.
A man caught my attention though. He was dressed in a white button shirt and black dress pants. He got my attention because the way he was glaring closely at Hadrian. I don't know why I so badly wanted to know why, but curiosity always tends to kill the cat.
Hadrian stepped back and waved his finger around at me. I smiled and twirled around. He brought me quickly into his chest and continued to sway head. His arm around my waist tighten as he placed his chin on top of my head.
Hadrian twirled quickly with me in his arm and I giggled.
When the song ended, people clapped. Soon another fast song came up and I quickly turned to go back to my seat, but Hadrian grabbed my hand, pulling me back into his chest. I had to put my hands on his chest to stop myself from ramming my face into his chest and he put an arm around my waist tightly. “Just follow.” he said and took both my hands, pulling me away and back quickly.
I was clumsy at first, but I just did as Hadrian said. I followed him as he did simple moves and I kept my eyes on the other girls around to make sure I wasn't doing anything stupid. Hadrian twirled me around and pulled my back against his chest. He grinned down at me and I smiled he twirled us around.
I didn't think I would have this much fun, but I was. Hadrian always surprised me though, always somehow making me smile. He took my hand to twirl me back around to face him and he put his hands on my waist, lifting me up quickly before setting me back down on my face.
When the song ended, Hadrian dipped me down and winked at me. I was surprised that I was a little out of breath. I never get out of breath when fighting, so how could dancing make me out of breath little? Maybe it was because Hadrian was so charming and he always made my heart beat a little quicker.
I chuckled, fixing my arms around his neck, “How fresh of you, Hadrian.”
“I like to impress.” he said before lifting me back up. He kissed my forehead and opened his mouth, but a hand slapped on his shoulder and forced him around. Hadrian cursed in Italian as he looked up and down at the large man I had notice earlier with two other men.
“I know you from somewhere.” the man with a deep African accent.
“Me?” Hadrian chuckled humorlessly. He glared at the guy, “I doubt that. I do not need problems.”
“I remember now. You're the guy who was with Ella the whole night.” he said, pointing at Hadrian. “Yeah, I could never forget you face.”
“Ella?” Hadrian questioned. “I never met anyone name Ella.”
“It was 1973, she left with you!” he said, getting angry. “They found her with her throat slashed.”
“You're nuts! Do I look like I'm 58 years old, man?” Hadrian asked. “I said I don't want any problems.”
The man grabbed Hadrian by his black button shirt, “What you do to my sister?”
“Man, I don't know anyone name Ella.” Hadrian said. He looked down at the man hand, “Let go of me.”
“You little punk. I know it's you! I don't know how, but it is!” he said.
“You're crazy.” Hadrian said. “Look at me! Do I look older than twenty? No. You are mistaken me for someone else. I'm sorry about your sister, but it's not me. Let go.”
My eyes widen when I saw the man hand ball into a fist but before he could punch Hadrian, I grabbed it, “Stop it.”, I said to him.
“What the?” the man questioned, surprised at how strong I was. Oops. Bad idea. I let go of his fist and smiled innocently at him. He let go of Hadrian and stepped towards me, “You're eyes, why are they—“, he got cut off when Hadrian punched him.
“Hadrian!” I cried and turned to him, forcing him away.
“Come at me!” Hadrian yelled at the man two friends.
“No!” I yelled.
“No.”, the man said, rubbing across his nose as he got up.
“Ricky, take it outside.” the bartender said. “And away from my club.”
The man stared at me and Hadrian put a protective arm around me. I was confused as he just stared for a moment before turning, “She's just like Nellie, leave her alone.”
“Ricky—“, one of them tried to speak but Ricky shook his head.
“We're going.” he said.
“Wait!” I said since I was so curious to know what he meant by 'she's just like Nellie'. I couldn't just let him go without knowing! Is this Nellie like me as in she's—a Nephilim to? I know I was jumping to conclusion, but it was so weird. He stopped, but didn't turn to face me, “What do you mean?”
He didn't answer, just continued walking away.
“Hey! Wait—Hadrian!” I hissed when he held me back. He took my hand and pulled me to the other side where a door was leading outside. I was fighting him, but he kept a strong hand on me. I pushed him away when we got outside in the back and glared, “Whose Ella?”
He sighed, “She's no one, I barley remember.” he said as he walked away and I followed next to him.
“Hadrian!” I hissed at him.
He groaned, “Okay yes, she was one of the girls. She was different though, she kicked me right in the dick while I was in the middle and ran away. I didn't run after her, I thought she would just pass out while doing it. No human would believe her anyways if she talked. She was nice, but she was tough at the same time.”
“Why do I have a feeling you’re lying?” I asked.
He grabbed my arm, making me look at him with a cold look, “You don't trust me? He said they found her with her throat cut. Do I do that? Why would I need to do that? I could have grabbed her, but I didn't. I didn't do it, Nevaeh. New Orleans had allot of gangs back in the day.”
I glared up at him for a moment before my face soften. He looked so serious and hurt that I was accusing him.
He took my hand, “Do you want to see that night? Because you can and I will show you I'm not lying.”
I snatched my arm away, “No, I don't like that.”
“I'm different than I use to be.” he said, his face soften. “I have done allot of bad things that I now regret. It's why I'm scared to tell you, let alone show you Nevaeh. Don't say you don't trust me again, please.”
“O-okay. But with happened back there? Why were you picking a fight with that man?” I asked.
He shrugged, “Men always did that back then, and if you even looked at another men lady he'll pick a fight with you. Even, I hate being disturbed and grabbed at. It pisses me off.”
“This isn't those days anymore, Hadrian.” I said and he rolled his eyes.
“Okay, I'm sorry.” he said, taking my hands in his. “I'll only pick fights if someone flirts with you.”
I scoffed, but smiled at him.

I brushed Hadrian hair that fell in his face as he slept. It was four o'clock in the morning, I had to go back to my motel room before it I fall asleep here. Later on Uncle Carter and I have to talk about the mysterious Demon outside of town whose forcing humans into being his slave. Some big business guy, the whole deal with power. We have to get rid of him soon.
I looked at the white glove on my hand and I bit my bottom lip. No, Nevaeh, don't do it, my mind said but my body had other plans. I slipped off the white cloth and took his hand in my mine. I gasped when the pounding feeling hit my body.
'Hadrian, you an idiot.'' Hadrian said as he paced back and forth in a familiar room. ''Idiot, idiot, idiot.'' He repeated the in another languages. It took me a moment to realize he was talking to himself.
I saw what he was thinking, like another flashback. It was the dance Nick and I had gone to in junior year. I remember that night perfectly. I still have that dress. Hadrian was mad in jealously I felt.
I was back in where I was before and he hit himself.
He went over to mirror hanging on the wall and pressed his hands against the wall as he stared at himself, ''it is wrong, Hadrian. Don't ever do it, you promised yourself. Love is stupid, only a word made up for women to play around in their heads.''
He stared at himself, his face scrunching up in pain. He cried in his frustration and turned around.
Don't love her, don't love her, he had thought. What is this feeling though? What is this feeling I've never felt before?
I pulled away and looked down at Hadrian. I smiled and touched his face gently, caressing it. I'm pretty sure I just saw was what was the first time he realized he loved me. I leaned down and kissed his forehead.
