Clothes.
They tend to define your social class.
What "clique" you belong to.
The poms have their sparkly bows.
The Madgricals have those baseball T shirts-
The kind I'd kill to call mine.

But what clothes do you wear
When your not sure what clique you belong to?

Animal t shirt?
I have over fifteen.
Unfortunately, that fad passed in seventh grade.

Harry Potter shirt?
They take up the majority of my closest.
But I can only risk wearing them once a week.
Or be deemed an even bigger dork.
Which is quite unfortunate
Because Harry Potter shirts are by far my favorite.

Every other outfit
That isn't stylish enough for school
Becomes weekend wear.
Lazing around the house wear.
Pajama wear.
Whenever I know
I won't be seen by anyone at school wear.

Musical T shirts are my go to.
They show that I was a part of something.
Something people respect.
Something people like Kate are a part of.

I wonder what Kate will wear.
She looks stunning in everything.
Even if half the time
It's only a T shirt and sweatpants.
Only Kate could pull of such an easy look.

At school in jeans and a purple blouse
Feeling stylish for once
I glance at Kate.
Of course she decided to dress up today.

Black sweater and pencil skirt,
Wedges to make her tall,
Blonde hair straight and thick,
Kate is the object of everyone's attention.

As girls complement her,
Choruses of "I love your outfit!"
When it's my turn,
I too bestow a compliment upon Kate.

Part of wishes I didn't mean it,
But I do.
She looks great.
She always looks great.

Kate accepts my words graciously,
Without a moments hesitation.
When you're as well liked as Kate,
You don't need to wonder if a compliment
Was really an insult in disguise.

That's a question I ask myself,
Any time any of my friends approved of my shirt.
I can never tell if they mean it.

It's not that I dress poorly.
Most days I don't at least.
Maybe it's just because
My outfits aren't trendy.
My outfits are always a bit last season.

Sometimes I can't be bothered to change,
And wear the same pair of jeans
For weeks on end
And hope no one notices.
Maybe they do.

Or if they don't,
Maybe it's because
I don't have hundreds of pairs of shoes.
Maybe it's because
I never have time for makeup.
Maybe it's because
I don't dress like Kate.
