chapter seventeen

The shifting of the body on the couch was enough to make the boys peak over, watching as Chanhee ran to her side. "She's awake."

The pastel haired boy examined the girls face, yet when her eyes opened - he jumped back.

"I wasn't a part of this," he whispered to her, earning a smack from Hyunjae who lifted him up by the arm. "Forgive me."

"Let's give her space at least," Kevin interfered as Hyunjae edged closer to her, awaiting her full response. He half expected that she would wake and attack him, yet when her eyes fluttered open, she just looked dazed.

The rest watched as she sat up, squeezing the blanket that Jacob had unknowingly laid upon her frame closer to her body. Her lips trembled slightly, her hands shaky - but that was all simply a side effect of the drug. "What have you done to me?"

Her words lingered for a moment, half of the boys lowering their heads in shame whilst the others remained tough.

Her deep voice was somehow lower, yet she sounded so helpless. The sight of her made Jacob bite the inside of his cheek, looking away towards the wall.

"It was just a sleepy drug," Sunwoo said softly, watching as all eyes went to him, throwing him daggers. "Okay, let me terrify her and tell her it was Rohypnol."

"You're all fucking psychos," Hwayoung spat, sitting up calmer than her voice sounded. "What now? Is this the part where I cry, kick and scream, beg to be let out? Because I won't."

"Even if you did," Hyunjae sighed dramatically, leaning further towards the girls face as he crouched. "It wouldn't work."

"Enough of that, you aren't Tom 'The Knife'," Kevin slapped the boys shoulder, although he didn't seem to budge. "What's your plan here, seriously?"

"I'm just letting her know that she won't be leaving," the brunette shrugged, watching as the girls eyes focussed purely on him. Admittedly, he once feared those eyes, and maybe if the scenario was different, he would be scared. But now that they had the power, he didn't feel a thing. "Now she knows."

"If someone other than this piece of shit would like to inform me of why I'm here," Hwayoung's words landed harshly, now finally looking around the room. "I'd appreciate it."

Silence fell upon the boys as they looked towards their leader, yet the girl looked elsewhere.

She looked at the blonde boy who cowered in the corner, his head against the wall as he chewed at his bottom lip still. There was much she wanted to say, to ask him, but she was here, and that spoke volumes to her.

"Cat got your tongue?" She asked, her eyes never leaving Jacob yet dragged themselves towards the leader who sat staring at her. "Huh?"

Sangyeon shook his head, a soft slightly sadistic chuckle echoing from his throat. "Maybe you should guess."

"Ah, the game where I'll spill my secrets just to make this all a little bit more fun for you," Hwayoung nodded, leaning back on the couch as she made herself more comfortable. Her actions only made the boys around her more shocked. "Why doesn't someone else tell me? Since that's what a good leader does, delegates his dirty work upon others."

Silence filled the room again, the girl barely noticing that Jacob shuffled awkwardly in his corner.

"Well, you have ten great puppets here," she continued, motioning around her. "Why won't any of them speak up for you? Men love the sound of their own voices."

"Ah - and you don't?" Hyunjae breaks the silence from above the girl, who simply shrugged.

"It's awkward when it's silent," she pouted dramatically, earning a scoff from the boy who shook his head and tutted, walking away.

Approaching Juyeon who looked equally as enraged, he turned to look at the girl. "Does she think this is funny?"

"It is, actually," Hwayoung nodded from her seat, stretching her arms and legs. "Drugging girls, that must be a fun night for you."

"Shut the fuck up," he spat, a foot moving forward as his friend pulled him back.

The girl chuckled in her seat, noticing how Sangyeon had risen from his own and now she was finally able to see Jacob's eyes. His sad, infuriated eyes. She wondered why he looked so hurt, yet struggled to find any remorse within her currently weak body.

"Everyone get out," the leader ordered yet his voice barely above a whisper. When no one moved, however, he only got louder. "Did I speak in fucking French? Out, now."

As the blonde had one foot out the door, his leader held him back. "I don't want involved in this, Sangyeon."

"Too bad, you already are," he shrugged, the boy sighing as he looked at the girl. She watched them leave one by one, her eyes finally settling on the two eldest. "Now we can talk-"

"You let them do this?" Hwayoung asked Jacob, the boy slightly shocked that she had even uttered a word to him.

She watched as tears filled his eyes, his lip caught in between his teeth again as he fumbled nervously. "I had no choice, Hwayoung."

"Bullshit," she whispered, glancing down at her feet. She noticed that she wasn't tied nor restricted to this place.

She wouldn't run, although if she did she knew it would be difficult to escape from eleven men.

"So, should you ask her, or will I?" Sangyeon broke the spell of silence, sitting down where he once was.

"Are you serious?" Jacob whined ever so slightly, his eyebrows knotting together as his back hit the wall again.

"Okay then," the leader shrugged, glancing over to see the girl look at them both with a rather bored and lifeless look in her eyes. It was either the drugs, or her natural unbothered state. "What do you know about this man?"

He handed over a photo to the girl, when she didn't accept it he simply lay it before her. Her eyes wandered over it for a second, before looking away.

The boys waited, one more nervous than the other, watching as the girl stared at the wall.

Memories flooded back at the sight of his face, making her almost grimace in her seat. How she had wished so badly that she had never saw his face again, although she knew this day would come.

So despite everything she knew about the evil pictured before her, she simply shook her head. "Nothing."

"Bullshit," Sangyeon mocked her last words, placing another photo in front of her, pointing harshly on the paper. "If you know him, you must know him."

Although she stared at the wall, she could see the black hair from the corner of her eye. It was slicked, his jaw was strong and his presence could be felt through even a print out. "Must I?"

"Stop playing games," the leader spat, leaning forward. "Yoon Jaekyung is your brother."

"No, he isn't," she replied, sitting forward in the same manner as he did. "I had a brother, and he is certainly not him."

"Then what?" He asked, scoffing followed by a chuckle.

The girl took a deep breath, glancing over to see Jacob with his eyes closed shut, chewing his nails anxiously.

She wondered why she should tell them anything, yet she wondered why she was brought here in such a manner.

They knew him, and some of them seemed to be hostile towards her. It all made sense, they wanted her dead just like they wanted him. Guilty by association, that sort of thing.

Her breath came to a sigh as she looked at the photo, gritting her teeth at the mere sight of his face. "Yoon Jaekyung was my ex-boyfriend."

The room fell more silent than it was before, the three barely noticing the shuffling outside the doors, the murmurs of the shocked boys behind them.

"Boyfriend?" Sangyeon choked out, looking at the girl who stared blankly ahead.

"Yes, that's what I said," Hwayoung said annoyedly, squeezing her arms further around her body. "What is it to you, to any of you?"

The leader rubbed his chin as he sucked in a deep breath, shaking his head. They had it all wrong, so wrong. He had it all wrong. "He's an enemy of ours, to say the least."

Hwayoung chuckled to herself, dropping her head as she tilted her head to each side. Her bones were beginning to ache, but she had tackled this exact thing before. "Okay, then why am I here?"

"We thought he was your brother," Jacob mumbled, crouching down as he buried his head in his hands.

The girl let out a laugh, nodding slowly as she thought about it. "He was registered as my brother."

"Isn't that... weird?" Sangyeon trailed off, furrowing his eyebrows.

"Well no, because he wasn't," she shook her head. She wondered how valuable her words were to them, alongside wondering how she could get out of here and away from them. "He was Woong's step son, not by blood."

"Did you have a registered mother?" The leader leaned in, narrowing his eyes as he prepared to actually listen.

"Why should I tell you anything?" Hwayoung tilted her head, stretching her neck as she rolled it side to side. "In fact, I won't be telling you anything else."

The girl stood up, she wasn't quite sure how she planned to actually leave. They would surely stop her.

And when Sangyeon flew up from his seat, his hand clutching at her wrist, he tugged it surprisingly gently. "Because we have that in common, now."

"What?" She scoffed, wriggling her arm from his grip as she glanced over at the boy she considered her friend. "Was it really that difficult to simply ask me?"

The two stayed silent, the leader glancing over his shoulder at the boy who remained frozen. He wouldn't let him suffer in embarrassment. "It was my fault, I-"

"Painted me out to be the enemy, again?" She interfered, hurt lacing her voice as her eyes landed on the photos of the men she despised the most. "You know, that isn't your fault."

Sangyeon looked between the girls eyes, watching as she scrunched up her face in disgust at the photos then glared at Jacob standing behind him.

"It's your fault," Hwayoung's words hit the blonde boy like a truck. "You believed him, again."

"He's my leader," Jacob mumbled, his voice quivering. "I have to."

"Find your happy medium," she advised, gulping as she glanced at the leader before her. "Then you might find your answers. Not everything has to involve kidnapping and violence."

Her words even made the boys outside the door freeze, looking around with guilt plastered on all of their faces now. To think back upon it, it was all wrong - but that's all they had ever known.

"But I guess that's the man in you all," Hwayoung scoffed lightly, walking towards the door. "I'll be leaving now, okay?"

With no reply, she watched as Jacob fell to his knees, his leader simply watching her go with an indescribable expression.

She needn't question that now, she would be on her way. Despite her head thumping and her body weak, she would go.

And as she closed the door, she vowed she would never see them again.
