Urcorn and Her Shessa
HI!!! Sorry for not updating 4 such a LONG time... I hope you're gonna keep reading this book, though! I worked very hard on this chapter, and though it may be short, I hope you enjoy!
"Woah, woah... I would love to help, but I need to know what I'm helping with." P.B. said, wide-eyed. Mane eyes flicked down to her hooves, and P.B. felt a bit bad. "Wait," he said, "tell me what you want me to help with, and then I could talk to the other horse races so it would be fair judging. I can't just pick unicorns before I even met the other horses." he reasoned. After a moment, Mane nodded in agreement.
"You are right, it would be fair." she murmured, "You should sleep here for tonight, and tomorrow morning you can talk to Amalthea about your plans, and you should also talk to Urcorn, too." she planned.
"Urcorn? Who's that?" P.B. asked, for this was a new name to him.
"Urcorn is our Eldevisor." Mane explained, "An Eldevisor is a wise and experienced horse in ones herd, and they assist the leader." P.B. nodded in understanding. He looked wistfully at the horizon, thinking about Kisha and her sweet apple scent, Penny and her dappled coat... He shook himself out.
Pull it together, P.B. he thought, Three magical races of horses are depending on you. You can go back home later... As his eyes stared at the line where the sky met land, they sky faded to a purple shade. It was becoming night soon, and P.B. would have to be ready for anything--perilous journeys, and strange traditions and all. He quickly created a makeshift from out of sticks and leaves. His own den looked very awful and crummy beside the other den of unicorns. Still, P.B. didn't mind that much, and he stood up to sleep for the night after finishing the soft grass bedding. Strange silky whispers drifted on the wind into his den, as they said which one do we bring him to... He's already been to two... then pegasi it is... The next morning, P.B. let out a small yawn, and trotted out of his den. Mane was ready at the entrance, and P.B. leaped backwards in surprise.
"Sorry if I startled you, but we really need to get going." Mane said tersely, but with a lot of feeling. Her horn was covered by her mane again, since she didn't want to reveal her secret when she wasn't in her territory. P.B. didn't know yet, but Mane was planning to travel with him--perhaps to persuade him to help the unicorns during the adventure. Suddenly, there was a low rumble, and Mane's eyes turned wide as she flicked her ears, looking around. Then, she saw P.B. face, which seemed to be blushing. "Oh... I guess you're hungry." Mane concluded, stifling a laugh-like whinny. P.B.'s blush became more red, as thought how pretty and cute mane looked, her smile glistening in the morning light. "Erm... P.B." Mane nudged the white stallion. He quickly snapped out of his daydreams. "I know a very yummy field of grass by the birch tree where we visited last time. If we get there in time, we could drink the fresh dew, too!" Mane suggested. The two horses agreed to go there, and arrived in a matter of seconds. P.B. bent down to graze, like Mane was doing next to him. First he licked up the dew on the blades of grass, so clear that it reflected P.B.'s own muzzle. The reflection suddenly warped, and it showed a Pegasus bucking in front of Mane and him. P.B. gasped, and blinked rapidly to clear his vision. He quickly lapped up the dew, but froze as he gulped down his first lick. He had expected just water, from rain and condensation, but this, this was different. P.B. felt like his tongue was his heaven, while he soared through crystal-like clouds. He closed his eyes as the moment faded, and greedily gulped down more dew. Then, he decided to munch on some grass. Once again, it tasted so mush juicier and fresh, somehow pure and sweet in a way. Unicorn food is soooo good... P.B. thought with joy. "Ya done?" Mane asked, and P.B. nodded in reply. Mane led him to the birch tree once more. "Okay, Urcorn and Amalthea will be waiting in the Great Tree, so get ready to respect them. I'll get up there first, and Amalthea will teleport you up there." P.B. nodded and gulped, remembering the bright flash and tingling sensation when he first teleport-ed up the Great Tree. Suddenly, Mane chanted under her breath, and P.B. pricked his ears to figure out what she was saying. "Blinking, thinking, my spirit is linking; now you see me now you don't, the power of my energy stone; let the blazing fire surround me, the winds shakes the leaves on a tree; teleport me now for it is time for me, teleport me now so note it be; I have one question to ask you, is teleportation really true?" Mane chanted, and dropped to a whisper, as her horn glow. "Yes, yes it is." were the last words P.B. heard when her horn glowed, lighter and brighter, and P.B. had to squint. When he opened his eyes wide again, Mane wasn't there, and in her place was one flickering ember. P.B. gasped in astonishment. Woah... Then his bones stretched as his vision warped, his eyes blinded and his coat prickled. He fluttered his eyelids and recognized the familiar room of the treeden in the Great Tree. Standing before him was Amalthea, Mane, and a strange majestic unicorn.
"Hello" the stranger spoke in a silky voice, which reminded P.B. of the whispers he heard last night. "I am Urcorn, and I will direct you in your journey, while simultaneously staying in my territory." P.B. was puzzled at what Urcorn had just said, but got distracted by her magnificent look. Urcorn had wide hooves with fluffed up fur here and there. Her coat was a pale yellow and her mane looked like a blazing wildfire. Her hooves were a shining yet dark shade of black and she had a short and pointed snout. She had a long horn that glittered like her pelt, and her eyes looked like a living fire was inside it's depths, as she looked at P.B.
"H-how will you do that?" P.B stuttered, not in fear, but rather in confusion.
"I will gift you with part of my shessa, my magic and spirit. I will be able to communicate with you throughout your journey, although I do not wish for you to travel alone. A horse of Amalthea's choice may accompany you." Urcorn answered. P.B. never heard of the phrase shessa before, but figured all horses had it, like a life essence or something cool like that.
~P.B. POV~
"I shall choose Mane, for I had decided this last night." Amalthea said, stepping forward. Mane smiled at me, and it felt wonderful.
"You will start your journey once I gift you my shessa." Urcorn explained simply, "Since you have met the land horses, and us, unicorns, it's time to meet the pegasi. Mane will carry the map on your journey." She said, and lifted her muzzle as a sizzle and pop filled the air. A scroll book thing landed in Mane's mane, and the mare's fur glowed for a split second, as the map vanished into her mane. I watched in awe as this strange magic was preformed. "Now it is time I share you my shessa." Urcorn told me, and she stepped close to me, as she rested her muzzle on my head. "Ancient moon, lend me your power, for I will share strength in this important hour; I call upon your strength and might--let his spirit wings take flight." she whispered and stared into my eyes. Soon I was under a trance, falling, falling, into the fiery depths of the eldevisor's eyes. I saw flashes of fire engulfing me a high pitched whinny, shrieking in my ears. I was trapped, and it seemed like there was no way out. Suddenly, my vision tilted, and Urcorn blinked rapidly, and I was back in the Great Tree. A new power surged through me, and I felt stronger than I've ever had been before. Be careful, I heard, from that silky voice, strength may run out one day, although our connection may last forever. Farewell, major, and don't forget: be free, be safe, and don't forget to live.
In a blink of an eye, I was back at ground level.
