Dan's blazer was flapping behind him in the wind as he races down to the half way finished theater to see who all made it in for tryouts.
He knew he made it because only the first thirty could get in but still he was anxious. He throws open the doors and mutters 'excuse mes' to the workers that were carrying long piles of wood to the stage.
There were already several people their that were hunched over the clipboard, even Chris was here early to.
Dan longed to push the chattering people out of his way as he politely taps on their shoulders and asks them to move. It doesn't take this long to look for your name!
When Dan finally got to the front Chris' eyes were alight. "Look Dan! I made the 16th spot! He shoves the clipboard towards him.
"That's wonderful Chris." Dan says half heartedly as he searches for his name, it wasn't at the top anymore, maybe they chose different people.
"Let's see who else got here." Chris looks on with Dan as their eyes scan the different names.
"Wow Felix is here and so is Melissa, but not Shane and Mark, guess they got lucky." He laughs.
"Yeah." Dan chuckles, he hands the clipboard back to him, "take this before we get trampled."
"Sure-"
"Wait give that back!" Dan yells, snatching the board back from him.
"What is it?" Chris asks frantically as Dan's eyes pop out wide.
"No.." He whispers.
Under the word Alternate, there were three names:
Hannah Lee
Frankie Fields
Phillip Lester
Then the clipboard is snatched upwards from Dan's hands.
"Hell yea I made alternate!" The deep voice happily yelled.
"No." Dan repeats again. Why did Phil always have to barge into his life?

Dan tried so helplessly to avoid Phil in the upcoming days, he wanted to center himself before tryouts but it wasn't helping when Phil kept throwing paper balls at the back of his head during first period.
"Dan." Throw. "Hey Dan." Throw. "Guess what?" Throw.
Dan gritted his teeth and tried to focus on the complicated math equation in front of him. When was Phil ever going to stop bothering him.
He kept looking at his half finished sheet but he could tell the whole class was glancing at him as Phil continued to throw paper balls at his head.
"Hey DAN!" He whisper yells and throws another one.
"Mr Geoffrey Phil won't stop throwing things at me!" Dan yells finally.
"Nobody likes a snitch!" Phil replies from the back.
Dan whips around, glaring at him, "Well I don't like you pelting paper at me!"
To make things worse Phil throws one right in his face then pecks his lips at Dan.
Dan stand up angrily but the professor comes over with a calming but rigid voice. "Okay settle down, Dan return back to your seat, Phillip-"
"It's Phil."
"Whatever, your dismissed from class, you may walk, or hop to the principals office."
Phil sighs dramatically and gets up. His leg was now in a Velcro brace. Grabbing his crutches, he makes his way up to the front. Dan watches as he turns his head back to look at him.
"Tattletale." He says childishly and sticks his tongue out smirking.
Dan grows red as he looks back down at his paper. He smooths out his tie and fixes his collar. Phil was not going to ruin his day or his chances to be a good student, or to be good at theater.

Dan's schedule was elongated by just one class and that was theater. He was a little upset that he couldn't go back to the 7th hall right after band but it was worth it.
He makes his way to the room. And when he pushes open the door, many people were already there but we're sitting on the floor since the stage wasn't completed. Chris waves Dan over to him and Felix.
"Hey guys." Dan says as he sits down and places his book bag beside him.
"I heard we're going to get small parts that we're trying out for today." Felix whispers.
"I wonder what play we're doing it on."
The boys wanted to keep talking but just then the instructor walks up with a hardened look in his eye as he pushes up his square silver glasses. He had balding hair and he walked like something was always stuck up his butt.
"Alright now listen you guys, I can be mean when I want to because I don't tolerate slackers. You either learn your part and do amazing in the performance or you don't and get kicked out."
Everyone looks at him silently. When he gets no response he smiles. "Great glad you guys understand, now I will hand you all a slightly random part for you to rehearse, you will have a few days to learn it before trying out to see what part best fits for you."
Dan was bursting with excitement as he was handed his own sheet.
Chris shows him his paper, "I got main part three what about you?"
"I got!.... guard person 6."
"Oh.." Chris looks at him embarrassed, "sorry, I shouldn't have bragged, but you might get another part if you're good at this."
Felix looks over at Dans sheet, "He only has two sentences."
"Yea! But in parentheses it says with feeling!" Chris shoots back, "come on Dan say it with feeling."
Dan sighs and reads it in a unhappy tone. "Stop whoever you are. What are you doing here?"
Dan looks closely at the paper and then groans, "I die in the first act by a knife in my back."
Felix covers his mouth. "It's not that bad," he says through his cupped hand.
"Yes it is! How am I going to get the main part if I only have two sentences!"
"Dan hey Dan!" Phil calls from across the room waving his paper over his head.
Dan groans has he looks back at Chris. "Please I'm not in the mood to talk to Phil."
"He probably just wants to show his part to you" Chris smiles warmly.
They all watch as Phil unsteadily makes his way across everyone. He even squishes Melissa's hand on accident.
"Sorry." He says unconvincingly.
When he gets over to him, he drops his paper and it floats down into Dan's lap.
"I got the main part, but look how many words they're are."
Dan picks up the paper and looks at it in shock. "How did you get first part if you're an alternate?"
Phil shrugs. "Alternates have to learn parts of the play to."
"I can't believe it." Dan sighs, "you have to trade with me."
"What?" Chris says, "Dan you can't do that."
Phil scrunches his eyebrows together in confusion. "What part did you get?"
Dan shows him and he snorts, "Damn that sucks."
"Watch your language!" The instructor yells at him.
"Oh whatever ass helmet!" Phil yells back.
"It's ashelment!"
Phill rolls his eyes. "Anyways, I won't give you my part unless you give me what I want."
"What do you want? I'll do anything." Dan practically begs.
"Then be my boyfriend."
"Anything but that."
"Kiss me."
"Nope."
"Then guess you're not getting my part." Phil smiles largely.
Dan puts his head in his hands, his chances were next to none.
"Okay wait there's one thing you can do though." Phil muses.
"What?" Dan says tiredly.
"You can help me study the part, and if I get recommend for alternate main I'll tell ass helmet that you should be the one to get it."
"Really? Phil that's so nice!" Dan grins.
Phil's cheeks tint pink, he lifts his hand up to scratch his neck but remembers that he was on crutches. "Yea well. I'm that guy."
"I'll do it! But you better not try anything." Dan says in all seriousness.
"Me?" Phil smirks, "I would never."
