31) Like the heart of a phoenix, let me see you rise
TW: Lots of blood and gore (seriously, the majority of this chapter has a bunch of it), somewhat implied death (it isn't shown but it is mentioned so), and self-harm

Tubbo looked up and gasped.
Before him was a bloodbath. Tommy was on a metal table, shirtless with his back covered in blood. It was like someone tried dissecting his back.
There were two large holes in his back that were where his wings were supposed to be. Instead, his wings lay discarded in the corner, a mess of bone, muscle, and nerves attached to the discarded appendages.
The two holes were bleeding profusely. Tubbo hoped, prayed even, that his best friend was still alive. He'd be in pain, sure, but the pain would be temporary, regardless of the result.
Standing above him was Dream, who was holding a sickle in one hand, and one of Tommy's severed wings in the other.
Without a word, Dream lunged at the trio, which led to Sapnap shooting him with fire (since when did he have that power!?).
"Ranboo!" The phoenix yelled at the teen, "Go find Wilbur and the guards! Tell them we need medical assistance and backup!"
Ranboo nodded as he ran upstairs, leaving the bar.
Even though he was burning alive, Dream didn't seem to care. He still tried to harm the phoenix, to no avail.
Tubbo watched Dream and Sapnap as he ran to Tommy's side. He didn't get a good look, he only glanced to make sure that we wouldn't be caught in the crossfire, but it seemed like the two were almost embracing each other. Once he got to the table, he grabbed Tommy's wrist and sighed with relief when he felt his friend's pulse. It was faint, but it was there.
In one of the boxes nearby, he saw a dirty rag. It wasn't the greatest, but it was better than nothing. He then glanced back at the fight as he was crawling towards the box, yelping when Dream's weapon seemed to fly towards him. He swiftly moved out of the way, and looked back at the fight. It seemed like Sapnap had the upper hand, considering that Dream's hand was badly burnt, so he couldn't even use his weapon if he wanted to.
Grimacing at the smell of charred skin, Tubbo swiftly grabbed the rag and crawled back to Tommy, and started on cleaning the wound. After what felt like an eternity (but was most likely only a few minutes), he heard footsteps upstairs, which swiftly came downstairs.
"Tommy!" Tubbo heard Wilbur yell. Tubbo turned to look at Wilbur, and his face paled when he saw his baby brother, bleeding out on a metal table, with his wings discarded like a broken toy abandoned by a toddler.
Behind Wilbur were Techno, Puffy, Fundy, and Ranboo. Fundy immediately pushed the others out of the way and ran to the young prince, opening his large doctor's bag and pulling out various ointments and tools that Tubbo couldn't name. Wilbur and Ranboo ran to Tommy's side while Techno and Puffy helped Sapnap with Dream.
While Fundy was cleaning the wound with alcohol and a clean rag, Tubbo heard Dream yelp. He looked up to see Dream curled into a ball on the floor, his hair, skin, and clothes burned, as well as a few gashes that were bleeding profusely. It was obvious that Dream had lost.
Tubbo watched as Puffy tied Dream's hands together and then his wings, leaving him mostly immobile and defenseless. Tubbo put his attention back on Tommy as Puffy led Dream upstairs.
As everyone calmed down, Techno walked to his brother's discarded wings and gently picked them up, examining them. "He took these out meticulously." Techno commented with a frown. "He didn't rip these out, he cut everythin' out."
"That explains why these wounds are so deep," Fundy said as he pulled out a needle and thread.
Tubbo frowned. "Are you about to stitch him back together and call it a day? Not even completely stop the bleeding or anything?"
Fundy glared at him. "Are you questioning me, Tubbo?"
"Actually, yes, I am." Tubbo scowled.
"Boys, stop arguin'." Techno snapped. "Shut the fuck up and focus on saving my baby brother."
Fundy and Tubbo nodded and continued what they were doing.
After what felt like forever, Wilbur frowned. "We're losing him."
"Fuck." Fundy muttered under his breath. "I hate to tell you this, Your Highness, but I don't think we can save him."
"No, no we can," Sapnap said. "Phoenix blood has a very special property. If someone ingests phoenix's blood, even just a little bit, then they're healed. In this case, it wouldn't heal him entirely, but it would make him stable and ensure his survival."
"Great, so what are we waiting for?" Wilbur exclaimed.
Sapnap hesitated. "Well, there is a price to pay..."
"Of course, there is," Techno grumbled before sighing. "What is it?"
Sapnap swallowed the lump in his throat. "Well, the only thing that can cause me to bleed is an iron dagger. I have one, that's not what I'm concerned about."
"Then what is it?" Ranboo asked.
Sapnap sighed. "Phoenix's are very weak to iron. If it touches our skin, it burns us. If we're exposed to a lot of it, we die. And since I'll be slitting my wrist with an iron dagger, it will end up killing me. My blood will still be safe for Tommy to ingest, don't worry."
Ranboo looked at Sapnap, his mouth agape. "What, no, there has to be another way!"
Sapnap shook his head. "The dagger is in that box over there." He said as he nodded to a small nice looking box. Techno walked to it and grabbed it.
"Nick, y-you can't die!" Ranboo cried. "I can't be left alone, not again!"
Sapnap looked at the teen and smiled sadly. "I'll be reborn, don't worry."
"Yeah, long after I'm dead!" Ranboo sobbed. "What am I without you?"
Sapnap smiled softly. "Yourself."
And before Ranboo could say anything else, Sapnap slit his wrist open.

When Tommy woke up, he was blinded by the bright lights in the palace infirmary. He tried to sit up and winced. He sighed, laying back down, wincing again at the pain.
He doesn't remember much after Dream kidnapped him. He remembered Dream shoving him in a knapsack, taking him to a weird room with a metal table, and passing out from the pain. He didn't know how he got to the infirmary, but he figured his friends and brothers had found him.
"Oh, good, you're awake." He heard Fundy say from beside him. When he tried to sit up again, Fundy stopped him. "No, don't sit up. You need to rest."
Tommy nodded as he laid back down again. He turned his head to see Fundy, with bags under his eyes and his hair had gotten whiter.
"What happened?" Tommy croaked out.
Fundy sighed. "Dream kidnapped you, as I'm sure you know. Well, he brought you back to the Antarctic Empire and put you in the basement of his bar, where we all found you. He ripped your wings out, so you can't fly ever again. In fact, you wouldn't even be alive right now if it wasn't for Sapnap."
Tommy nodded, the action causing pain. "Where...where are my brothers?"
"Wilbur is telling your father what happened, and Techno is in the process of executing Dream." Fundy answered.
"What about Tubbo and Ranboo?" Tommy asked.
Fundy hummed. "I don't know about Tubbo, but I'm imagining Ranboo is in the middle of mourning his friend."
Tommy didn't bother to ask. He was too tired.
"You should rest," Fundy said. "I will tell your brothers and your friends that you're okay."
Tommy nodded slightly as he shut his eyes.
Sleep came quickly.
