71 | First Assignment

THE MEMBERS OF THE Omega Society circle around the bodybag with their bodies stiff as stone. They stare at it with uncertainty, not sure if it was fake or not considering how Omega Society pulled a stunt like this as well during the Brotherhood Week. Because if this was fake, someone was definitely pulling a distasteful prank on them.

"Did someone receive a jack-in-a-box?" Max genuinely asks since this could have been a prank made by his protectors. Just because he's a member of Omega Society, doesn't mean Master Joker and the others would exclude the other members in his club.

Everyone looks at each other, while some shrug their shoulders. Thankfully, no one received the box from the Jokers.

"Max, can you check the bag?" Payton then asks, practically hiding behind Felix.

Max takes a deep breath and looks back at the bag. He couldn't deny that he was scared to get close to it, but if you think about it, the situation that they're in could be because of Max. If someone really was pulling a prank on them, then they were directly targeting him since the bodybags gig was his idea in the first place.

"Here I go," Max says as he finally approaches the bag. He takes a deep breath and looks at the bag before lifting his hand to zip it down. But before his hand could even touch the bag, Payton suddenly remembers something and shouts, "Wait!"

Max flinches as he looks back at Payton with an angry expression. "What now?" he asks him.

"See the lockers on the side? You're on locker eight. There's some equipment there that I was able to buy a couple of weeks ago when I got a hold of our club funds," Payton explains.

Max takes a deep breath and walks towards their locker while scratching the back of his head in annoyance. He opens locker eight like what Payton stated, which revealed a black coverall suit, some black latex gloves, and even a black face shield and mask.

"You really prepared yourself, huh?" Max asks, and before Payton could even answer him, Max properly wears the gloves and closes the locker again before walking back to the bag. "Okay, let's get this over with," He says as he gets ready to unzip the bag. But just when he thought that nothing would disrupt him anymore, Max suddenly saw the bag move, as if the body inside it just took a deep breath.

Max widens his eyes from shock and he quickly opens the bag. The moment he opened the bag, he moves away and covers his mouth.

Everyone was also shocked as they immediately backed away.

The bodybag wasn't a mere prank at all as there was really a person inside it. Most of them couldn't really recognize who the person is, but Max knew exactly who he was. He was one of the white uniforms who mimicked the Ashes. If Max could remember correctly, this student's name is...

"Hudson?" Max asks, trying to remember the picture that Gavriil showed to him before when he was showing him their faces back at the clinic last week.

"T-That's...That's Hudson. That's one of the white uniforms that was impersonating the Ashes last week," Max explains, leaving the other members speechless.

The entire room was dead silent. They couldn't say a single word, not because there was an actual body in front of them, but because the body was actually covered in bruises. He must have been beaten up pretty badly that he became unconscious like this.

"Thankfully he's still breathing. We should bring him to the-"

One of the freshmen students was caught off guard when Payton's phone suddenly rings. The society's leader immediately takes his phone out to see what it is, and the shock on his face worried everyone.

"Each member of the Omega Society just received 100 merit points as a deposit for our service. 200 merit points will follow after the task is completed," Payton announces, and everyone couldn't believe it, especially Max.

"W-Wait...this is an actual cleanup job? We're actually going to do it?" Felix asks with worry on his face. This will be the first time that they'll actually do something like this. Even though this is what they presented during the Brotherhood Week - about how they'll clean up all the mess that the brotherhoods will make - he still couldn't believe that they're finally going to do it.

Everyone started talking with each other. Some looked worried like Felix, while some looked excited. After all, this was the exact reason why they joined this society in the first place.

As everyone continues to talk over each other, Payton clears his throat and adjusts his glasses. He was the Omega Society's leader after all, and this was their first real assignment, so with a more serious expression, he looks at the members of his club and commands, "Wear your gear everyone. We only have the entire day to do this so let's do this right. Let's go!"

...

Two of the society members inspect the body and write down everything that there is to know about it. They strip him out of his uniform to write down everything that is on his body. All the bruises, the marks, everything.

"He has two bruises on the arm, three on the leg, and one on the neck," the freshman student announces.

Payton, who was standing in front of the whiteboard, writes all the information down while Max, Felix, Nabi, and another freshman student were at another table making up a plan on what to do with the unconscious student.

"There are cigarette burns too. Three on his back, and one of his nape," another freshman reports.

"These guys seriously did a toll on him. It's obvious that they weren't trying to kill him, but they definitely made sure that it would hurt," Eren comments while Max was concentrating beside him.

"These guys? You mean Cigarettes?" Felix adds.

"Shush, we do not speak about the brotherhood that we work for. That's the main purpose of our society," Payton then scolds, and all Felix could do was shush his mouth.

While everyone was busy, Max continues to stare at the map of J.S High in front of him. They had an unconscious white uniform in front of them that they had to strategically clean up, or in a more barbaric term, dispose of. That's why they can't just simply leave it anywhere since they can trace it back to where he got those injuries.

This only means that they'll have to fabricate something; make something up that will change the story as to who and where he got beaten up like that. Only then will they be able to successfully cover up the brotherhood who hired them.

"Alright, let's do this first," Max says before looking back at the members of Omega Society. "This is a big school filled with rebellious students. Look for powerful and troublesome white uniforms who smoke behind the scenes and report it back to us."

"Wait, we're going to blame this on them?" Eren asks.

"Omega Society isn't made for saints. If you can't do this then you might as well leave," Payton seriously says, and Eren couldn't say anything anymore.

"Don't worry, the justice system in J.S High is straight-up whack. Even if we fabricate things, the most they can do about it is suspension. Honestly speaking, we might as well be making the students we'll blame a favor since they're not required to go to their classes for a while," Felix explains with a cold expression, so no one decided to go against it anymore.

"Alright, the omegas that we sent to the CCTV room, are they here now?" Payton then asks, and another freshman lifts his arms and says, "We're here Payton."

     "Okay, what do you got?"

The omega approached Payton and pulled out a notebook. "We found out that it really was Cigarettes. Our subject: James Hudson, is confirmed to have been friends with Arthur McKay, and he was one of the students who impersonated the Ashes. At 6:45 AM, Hudson headed to the Hall of Terra when a group of Lighters suddenly ambushed him and carried him away to Cigarettes' base."

"Cigarettes' base...where is that exactly?" Max immediately asks, not only for the sake of their assignment but for his personal reasons as well, especially when he's trying to conquer them.

Payton looks at him, and then he approaches him and points at something on the map. It was the West Tower, also known as the freshmen building.

"At the West Tower, there's a basement that no one dare's to visit. That's Cigarette's base, which is also dubbed as the Smoking Room. No outsider has ever seen it and lived to tell the tale," Payton explains. And even though Max knew that he was over exaggerating on the last part of his sentence, he knew that there was some sort of truth to it, especially after seeing Arthur's reaction when Cj mentioned it to him.

After answering Max's question, Payton heads back to the board and continues with their previous discussion.

     "Anything else?"

"There was no further movement, but just minutes after we went to the auditorium earlier, Hudson was brought back here," the freshman student finished.

"Did you delete the footage then?"

"Yes, I was also able to cut it properly so it wouldn't be too obvious," he answers, and Payton immediately thanked him for his hard work. Thankfully omega society is equipped with differently skilled members.

After sharing all the information with each other, everyone started working again. It was an outstanding sight to see, considering how Omega Society was only seen as janitors in the past, and now they're working like a professional spy agency.

"Alright Omegas! Let's do this before the school bell rings. Chop-chop!"

...

Students were starting to head out of their clubrooms as the school bell finally rang. The halls were filled with students, some were even pushing others out of the way since everyone just wanted to go home. They were in a rush since it was a Friday, and you know how students are when it's Friday.

"I can't fucking find my notebook," a white uniform said in an angry tone. His armband was gold with the roman numeral IV written on it, while two other students who are walking beside him had blue armbands. The three of them are a group of friends that's feared by other students, especially serfs who suffered so much just because they wanted to have fun.

"Where'd you leave it?" his friend asks.

"I don't fucking know," he answers before pulling out a pack of expensive cigarettes from his pocket. "Just forget about it. I barely even wrote anything on that shit. It's mostly just random words and doodles."

The three friends continue walking until they arrived at the back of the stadium, almost like an alleyway. It was an area that students don't usually go to since it's close to the Royals' base, but it was the perfect spot for troublesome kids like them.

The gaffer pulls out a cigarette stick before pulling out a lighter. When they arrived at their usual spot, he throws his bag on the ground where a pile of cigarette buds could be found. But before he could even light up his cigarette, he suddenly spots something that's a couple of meters away from them.

"What's that?" He asks while pointing at something in a distance.

His other friends squint their eyes to get a better view, but none of them could picture what the silhouette was from afar, so they decide to approach it.

To their dismay, it was only a peak cap.

"What the...who left this here?" The gaffer asks before picking the cap off of the floor.

He scans it and then looks back at his friend. "Did someone come here earlier?" He asks, but the two dwellers only shrug their shoulders as an answer.

The gaffer who was holding the cap chuckles. "Some kid must have been hiding here and ended up dropping his cap. It's definitely one of those worthless serfs," he says, but when he flipped the cap, he suddenly saw the words, "catch" written on it.

"Catch?" The gaffer asked before looking up. To his surprise, a white uniform was suddenly falling toward them from the roof.

"What the fuck?!" The gaffer shouts as he and his friends immediately caught the white uniform out of panic.

Their hearts were beating fast as they dropped the body on the ground. With their eyes wide from disbelief, they look at each other before looking back at the body that literally just fell from the sky.

"W-What the hell is that?" One of the dwellers asks, immediately backing away from the unconscious white uniform who was badly injured.

"This is bad...we gotta get out of here," the gaffer then tells his friends. They were about to run away from the scene when four school guards wearing black suddenly arrived to stop them.

"There they are!" A guard shouts before pointing at the unknowing boys.

     "Shit...shit! Run!"

The three tried to run away, but J.S High's guards were just trained differently as they easily caught them without any effort, pinning them on the wall while one of the guards approached the unconscious white uniform so he could check on him.

"You three...you're heading to the Elites' office," the guard - who was holding onto the gaffer - said to them.

"W-What do you mean? Why on earth are we heading there?! We didn't do anything!" the gaffer immediately defends, but then the guard who was checking the white uniform suddenly pulls a paper out of his pocket. He then opens it up and sighs before looking at the three students.

"Then why did you send him this?" the guards said before showing the paper to the supposed suspects.

The gaffer's eyes widened when he saw the paper. It was a paper which was covered with the words "I'll kill you" written all over it.

"H-How did you...that's a page from my missing notebook," the gaffer said from shock, surprising his friends too.

"You admit it then?" the guard asks back, and the gaffer suddenly starts struggling. "No! We've been framed! We didn't do anything! I swear!"

"Go and explain yourself to the vice president."

The gaffer continues to struggle, but the guards didn't listen to them as they start dragging the three white uniforms away while medics arrived to finally take James Hudson to the hospital.

While the other guards were inspecting the scene, two students were watching in a distance. They were wearing the uniform that the omegas will surely be known for, and conveniently, it hid their faces.

"And there he goes," the omega says in relief before looking at the boy beside him who was named Max.

Max takes a deep breath as he watches the white uniforms get dragged by the guards. At that point, he should feel guilty for framing them, but Max felt nothing. He didn't know if he thought that they deserved it anyway after bullying all those serfs in the past, or because he just didn't have any emotion left in him.

"Looks like our work here is done," Max whispers. And just a couple of minutes after what happened, Payton gets another message, stating that all the members of Omega Society received their additional 200 points for successfully completing their almost impossible first assignment.

"I hope you enjoyed the show...Charles Justin Mills."
