Chapter Twenty-Three
James sat at his office desk, his bounced the balls of his feet on the floor under his desk as he tried to figure out what to do next.
He felt a hint of guilt for taking Dominic to Sam, but he knew he had no other choice, he felt a hint of guilt for leaving Dominic in a cell, but he knew something wasn't right with Dominic, he felt a hit of guilt for not telling Dominic everything, but he knew he couldn't.
"Sorry, you can't go in."
James caught the words from Sax as he looked up at the doorway.
"I'm his father."
"Not according to my notes." Sax kept her arms crossed as she stared at Mr Eldridge.
"James."
James sighed; he stopped his feet moving "Sax."
Sax didn't look at James.
"His my father, even if I sometimes wish he wasn't."
Sax smirked a little "Guess, daddy's little boy isn't actually daddy's little boy." She burst out laughing.
"I will have you..." Mr Eldridge didn't understand what was happening "Who is she? Your certainly not fucking her." He stepped into James' office.
"My assistant."
"Finally took my advice and grabbed someone unfuckable."
"I heard that." Sax gritted as she twisted her attention to the two males.
"Sax, calm down." James rose up to his feet "Take five."
"But orders.."
"Orders is to keep me safe, right?"
Sax gritted as she slammed the office door shut, she stared through the glass divider with her arms closed.
Mr Eldridge took great pride in closing the blinds on her.
"Shouldn't of done that."
Mr Eldridge ignored his son before turning his attention to James "What did you do to Dominic?"
"Why do you care?"
"Because someone in this family needs to care about a man like him."
James felt like he had experienced a kick in the teeth as he scoffed with frustration "I broke up with Dom, you have no right to care about it."
"I don't give a shit, James. You fucked up and as usual I've got to clean up your mistakes."
"Dom wasn't a mistake."
Mr Eldridge breathed out his words before he had a chance to regret them "James, I mean that he was something good in your life. With him, you were better."
James wasn't sure how to take that, he didn't have a chance to respond as he heard glass smash.
James felt himself being pinned down to his desk, he felt force on the back of his head. He felt manicured nails grab around his left wrist.
His eyes glanced down at the nails; he didn't understand.
"Get off my son." Mr Eldridge looked up at the woman holding James against the desk.
The woman smirked "When he gives me what's mine."
"Look lady, his not the father. He won't give you what you want."
James watched as his father collapsed back on the lounge "DAD!"
"SHUT IT!" James felt hot breath down the side of his face "I need my paintings."
James could feel his chest heave with each breath, he could feel his struggle as he was pinned against his desk, he couldn't move his left arm while it felt like his right arm wouldn't move.
"Where are they?" The woman whispered.
"Look lady, I don..." James felt fingers nails dig into the side of his cheek.
"It's Scar" She emphasised Scar "Let."
James wished in the moment he could turn around and see who was holding him down, he didn't understand who he had pissed off or who Scarlet was, he tried to figure out where Sax was; she was supposed to be protecting him.
"I won't ask again." Her voice whispered in his ear.
James couldn't move his face as he felt her fingernails in his cheek, he couldn't see a reflection of the woman in anything around him.
James felt desperate for Sax's help. He hated that she wasn't barging in, he hated that he felt helpless as some woman named Scarlet pinned him down, he hated that he couldn't move his right arm.
James closed his eyes; he didn't think anyone would care if he was found dead in his office.
He could feel something wet on his cheek, he assumed blood on his cheek.
Scarlet took pride in having James at his weakest, she took pride in bringing a man down.
James tried to find any ounce of strength in his body, but it was as if his body wasn't connecting to the signals.
He felt himself give up.
"A lady hates doing her own work." Scarlet mentioned "I need the unholy trinity."
James opened his eyes "Dom." He needed to fight.
"His a little busy." Scarlet took pride in saying that sentence.
James found his reason to keep fighting, he tried to find control in bringing his right hand up, he tried to find control to bring his left hand towards his body.
Scarlet kept her grip on his left wrist, James pushed himself up, quickly spinning around, he pinned Scarlet down on his desk.
He kept both his hands gripped tightly on her wrists "Where's Dom?"
Scarlet kicked her leg up, James jumped back slightly forcing himself to let go on Scarlet.
Scarlet straightened herself up, James kept his eyes on her.
"I won't ask again." James stared at the person in front of him, the physique reminded him of Dominic but the way the woman was dressed; she was beautiful, she was in the style of what Dominic was trying to capture when he dressed in Drag.
James automatically knew that somewhere deep down amongst that old Hollywood glamour, Dominic was stuck.
Scarlet smiled with delight "His a little busy."
James watched as the whites of Scarlet's eyes flicked with the colour of Dominic's eyes.
James swallowed hard, he hated when he was right. In this moment he hated that he had asked for help, and this is what they did in return. They had let whoever Scarlet was take over Dominic and let her escape.
James dropped to his knees as he felt an ache ripple through his groin. His thoughts had distracted him, he hadn't even realised until the pain came that Scarlet had kicked at him, he was down on his knees in the smashed window glass scattered over his office floor.
"Now that your down, I need the other two."
James glared up at Scarlet "I don't know." He lied, all he had was his lies.
Scarlet huffed with frustration "Always the liar." She gripped James by his lower jaw as she towered over him "I'll use your lover to tell me where it is."
James tried to laugh as he felt Scarlet's nails dig into the sides of his face "I wish you luck." He felt confident in his answer even though he knew that Dominic knew where the two remaining pieces of the Unholy Trinity were.
Scarlet pushed James away from her, she calmly stepped over to the edge of the window before jumping out.
James painfully rose to his feet, he allowed himself to peer over the edge of the window. He seemed confused, he had seen Scarlet jump out the window, but he couldn't see her, he doubted someone jumping from the fiftieth floor would be gone in seconds.
He kept his gaze down below, he couldn't hear any scream or any loud crashes.
James carefully sat down by the edge of the window as he breathed, he jumped a little as he watched his office door open "Now you come."
Sax calmly sipped her drink "What? You told me to take five." She looked around the office "You shouldn't of told me to take five." She rested herself against his doorway "But you all good now?"
James deeply inhaled before allowing his frustrated exhale to escape "What do you think?"
Sax noticed Mr Eldridge on the lounge "His not dead is he?"
"Shit. Dad." James jumped up to his feet, he rushed to his father's side before checking for a pulse "Sax?"
Sax couldn't help but laugh "Really?"
"Sax."
"Alright. Fine." She stepped closer to Mr Eldridge, James stepped back. Sax rested her ear against his chest "His fine, a little shocked that's all."
"Can you unshock him?"
Sax stood up straight, she turned her attention to James "You can really be a girl sometimes."
James rolled his eyes.
"His fine. Sexist but fine. So...." Sax took a sip from her drinking before asking her question "Did the two of you..." She trialled off.
"We didn't fight but one third of the Unholy Trinity came to visit me."
"Oh. Shit. Who?" Sax pretended to find some care.
"Sax, your useless do you know that?"
Sax calmly sipped her drink again.
