Chapter Twenty-Eight

James carefully laid V down on the bed, he carefully sat by her side. The one person he knew who would've been able to help him was knocked out.

The one person he truly loved was being held hostage within his own body.

James softly pressed his forward against V's forehead, hoping she'd give him a hint of where she put the two paintings that had hung in his lounge room.

Nothing.

He slowly rose his head; he slowly ran his hands down her shoulders and down to the top of her gloves.

"Please forgive me." He swallowed hard as he delicately took of her left glove, he carefully cusped her left hand in his hands.

James closed his eyes.

It was as if James was V as she wondered through his house, he watched as her hands reached out to the two paintings.

V carefully placed the paintings down on the lounge, she stopped for a second before looking around her.

She quickly rushed to the curtains before pulling out two identical of The Unfinished One and The Forgotten One.

She rushed back to the wall where the paintings had hung, she hung up the replicas.

V didn't have a chance to stop and stare, she quickly picked up the originals before rushing through the lower half of the house.

He could feel her strengthen weaken as she rushed through the kitchen, she could feel herself pause.

James listened to her breathing as it shook with weakness.

"JERE..." V barely made it to a door by the kitchen "These need to go down..."

James couldn't see who she was talking too, he couldn't hear their voices. He could feel darkness start to wrap around V's vision before her collapsing on the floor.

James opened his eyes, he stared up at her face, he slowly kissed her forehead before rising to his feet.

James silently rushed out of the bedroom; he rushed down to the stairs. He wasn't sure if he should call for his butler's help or not, he knew he had no other choice. He didn't want to involve Sam again; he didn't need Sax and her sarcastic comments, and he certainly didn't need Sasha and her need to protect V.

James rushed through the lower half of his home; he stopped in the entrance of the kitchen.

His eyes darted around; he couldn't see the door that V had shown.

"Sir."

James jumped slightly as his butler came into view "Jeremy. There's a door around here."

Jeremy nodded slightly, he lead the way through the second entrance of the kitchen, James followed behind.

James felt confused, he felt confused that Jeremy didn't say anything about the look or why James was asking about a door.

His butler hadn't battered an eye.

Jeremy stopped at a door "Are you sure, Sir?"

James looked at Jeremy "It's the only way to save Dom and V."

Jeremy nodded; he untucked a necklace from his shirt before pulling it over his head.

James watched as a key hung alone on the chain, he watched as Jeremy unlocked the door and carefully pushed it open.

James watched as Jeremy took a step in, he watched as a soft glow filled the doorway. He watched as Jeremy took know-it-all steps down the stairs.

James cautiously followed behind; his eyes darted with confusion with each step he took.

The way the light got brighter, the way the door closed automatically behind the two of them.

Jeremy stopped down the bottom of the stairs, stepping aside.

James looked at Jeremy, confusion still washed over James.

He took his final step off the stairs, he allowed himself to move around as the lights hit their maximum brightness.

Before James had asked the question, Jeremy spoke "This has been down here for as long as I've worked for your family."

James noticed a large computer screens sitting in the middle of the near-open spaced room.

He took notice of the line up of glass encased costumes, James tossed a glance to Jeremy.

Each costume looked near identical with slight changes as decades went on, black dresses at various lengths each with black feathers, each with a golden pin shaped in a black shoe with the letter BF etched onto them, each with a black cape with black feathers, each with shoes of their decade encased on the floor of the glass casing, each with a black wig in slight variations of curls.

James stopped his gaze at the costume that stood proudly next to an empty casing, standing proudly on a mannequin was an ankle length jumpsuit, the mannequin wore gloves over the tips of its fingers and the palm of it's hard plastic hands. Comfortable shoes sat on the feet of the mannequin. A black eye mask pinned with short length feathers clasped around the eyes of the mannequin.

A black wig in a low ponytail sat on the top of the mannequin.

James noticed two BF logo black heels holding together a knee length cape.

He swallowed hard "What does BF stand for?"

"Black Feather."

"Yeah, that isn't problematic." He sighed "What is all this?" James couldn't tear his eyes away from the costumes standing in front of him.

"Generations ago, someone in your family started a character called Black Feather, they fought to protect history that were once hidden for a reason. When your father stumbled up Sam, they came to an agreement."

James tore his eyes away from the costumes as he waited for Jeremy to finish his story, Jeremy didn't say another word "That's why you're not weirded out by this." He indicted to his attire.

Jeremy smiled a little "I wash your clothes, Sir. I've known for quite some time."

James lowered his head slightly as he tried to hide his smile, he lifted his gaze to the costumes in front of him "I'm not wearing a dress." He indicted knowing he needed to change up his look.

"I have the perfect outfit."

James watched as Jeremy stepped away from the stairs, he watched as Jeremy disappeared amongst a dim light that lead into a doorway.

James cautiously stepped towards the computer screen; with hesitation he tapped the keyboard. He jumped a little as the screen turned on, he wasn't sure if touching a random part of the keyboard was it's on/off button or if it had just been on.

He watched as the computer screens lit up, a small section of the screen filled with security camera footage of his own property from various parts inside and outside of the house including the front gate and parts around the backyard that he rarely used.

He noticed a map icon jumping out on the screen, he noticed a red pin moving backwards and forwards in his family's business and noticed another red pin standing still in James' home.

He automatically assumed those two pins were him and his father.

"Sir."

James turned his gaze away from the computer screen, he raised an eyebrow at Jeremy "Are you sure it'll fit?"

"It's based on your suit size."

James smiled with a plan as he stepped towards Jeremy.
