Chapter 11
There was quarter of an hour left until we had to meet everyone back at the camp. Caitlin had been very smart and left marks on some of the trees so we knew our route. No one talked on the long journey back and we didn't walk very fast which gave me a chance to concentrate on our surroundings. The trees still possessed all their green leaves indicating it was around Spring or Summer. I couldn't tell what season it was back at the original camp as it was practically a desert. Snow never fell and the heat was always a similar temperature.
Before I could examine the weather any further, we had almost reached camp.
"we're half an hour late!" Anna exclaimed.
Holly shot Anna an irritated look because the death of her best friend was the reason of our delay. No one talked until we finally reached camp. However an unpleasant surprise greeted us... Bodies were everywhere. Dead bodies of our old fellow camp mates. Nobody did anything but stare at the bodies and try to pretend it was all a dream.
"Thomas... We better run!" shouted Theo pointing at three Kingbots charging at us. Adrenaline kicked in as I sprinted as fast as I could away from the robots- everyone quickly followed. As I ran past many trees, all I could see was blur and I felt dizzy.
It wasn't long until I realised that robots can't run out of breath because they are pure machinery. They would catch up with us as we grew weaker. "We have to turn around and fight them" I panted between breaths. From the corner of my eye I could see that my friends were nodding their heads in agreement. I fumbled for an arrow in my quiver and positioned it in my bow, ready to shoot.
"Now!"
Everyone stopped running and turned to fire at the Kingbots. Fortunately, all except me had acquired guns which made killing the enemies much easier.
Bang! Holly shot one in the neck.
Bang! Jack shot another between the eyes and...
Bang! The last Kingbot was killed by Olivia. We watched as the bodies of the robots collided with the ground.
"Yes, mate! Did you see where I shot that thing!?" Jack said slapping my shoulder. It was a very clean shot and I hadn't seen Jack use a gun accurately before. "Nice! I didn't realise you actually paid any attention during shooting training!"
"Well, there you go! I listen more than you think I do!"
"You know what would've been a better shot though?"
"What?"
"If you'd hit it right in the-"
"Shut up! Yes, we know that it was a good shot but we are now the only eight left from our camp! What are we going to do now?!" Caitlin screamed.
"Oh..." Me and Jack both mumbled.
What were we going to do?
