Hi, hello, welcome back to my little corner of fandom. Felt like oversharing once again, so let me take a minute to talk to y'all about mY UNDYING LOVE FOR MARK FUCKING WATNEY

The cutest lil' botanist that Mars has ever seen (it does not in any way hurt that he's played by the absolutely stunning Matt Damon)

Now, who is he? For those of you who have not had the fucking pleasure of hearing this name, he's the protagonist from the novel The Martian by Andy Weir, which was subsequently made into a movie where he was, of course, portrayed by the aforementioned stunning Matt Damon

The movie came out back in 2015, and I had the chance to see it in theaters before I got to read the book (which I did pretty much immediately after I was done with the film). Hoo boy am I glad I witnessed this shit in the theaters. The cinematography was phenomenal, Matt is 100% Mark in every way, and did I mention who his costar is?

And he's adorable to boot as Chris Beck, resident doctor among the ARES III crew (the astronauts selected to go to Mars, yeah, they're all hot stuff)

Admittedly, Beck's character isn't nearly as fleshed out as I would have liked (barely anyone within the crew besides Mark is, really, and that's such a goddamn shame in my opinion) but c'mon. Sebastian Stan. Need I say more? The man can act, and he is the definition of gorgeous.

Anyway. It's been a while, so why, you ask, am I bringing this up now?

Because I just rediscovered my (undying) love for Mark (fucking) Watney.

I started releasing the book a while ago, but I haven't finished because I optioned to have it included in my college book club and I'm waiting to see if it makes the list. But from the little I've reread, I remembered vividly why I fell for Mark in the first place. He's just... such a sarcastic little shit. He's so hilarious, he's relatable, he's an honest to god nerd (I feel like that's a prerequisite for going into space, really), and you can't help but root for him while he's struggling to get his ass off Mars after being mistakenly left for dead by his crew members.

Just... ugh. Please, anyone, everyone, read this book or at least watch the movie. The movie is one of my favorite book adaptations ever, and that's including the Harry Potter movies, The Hobbit, and To Kill a Mockingbird. You would be doing me the biggest goddamn favor if I had someone to talk about this with.
