Ch. 4
She had her eyes closed, as Chuuya let out a laugh.
Kimi opened her eyes, to see him laughing and Akutagawa just watching intently.
"Did you really think we would give you a loaded gun? You've got guts, that's alright. So what do you think boss?" Chuuya asked, turning to Akutagawa.
"I say she's a keeper. Although I'm going to have to train her, her stance is off horribly and if the gun was loaded she would have just shot your shoulder, or arm. That's a pointless aim and a bullet wasted." Akutagwa explained to him, as if the girl wasn't even there.
She was... in? Just like that?
Akutagawa started walking over, as she unintentionally stepped backwards, her back hitting the wall.
He tilted his head, looking her up and down.
He then crossed his arms.
"I'm not planning on hurting you, girl. Calm down. And breathe properly, I'm not catching you if you fall."
So Kimi tried to even out her breathing, as he just nodded.
"Good."
"There are some rules, okay? Keep up, I'm not repeating myself for you." Akutagawa started, pushing his hands into his coat pockets.
"Number one. Do as I say, always. I don't care if it goes against your morale compass, you might as well not be here if that's the case. Number two. Don't backstab me, Chuuya, or anyone in my group. You do and you're dead. Number three. Don't tell anyone who you are or what you're apart of, or I'll kill you and them. Family and friends included. Number four, stay away from those pesky detectives. They're already on my ass as it is. And that's about it for now." He explained briefly, then looked at her again.
"Understood?"
Kimi just nodded.
If she was caught, she was doomed.
But if she didn't do this, her whole family was doomed and she would be alone.
That's when Kimi remembered something. She didn't say goodbye to them.
That might have been the last time she saw them, and she just left.
"Good. We'll start you tomorrow. I'm glad you weren't dressed in trash bags, having to go shopping with you would've been the bane of my existence." Akutagawa scoffed, walking off.
Chuuya walked to Kimi, almost having to look up at her.
"Why am I not even surprised you're almost taller than me? I hate being short." He grunted.
"I'm wearing platforms, I'm sure you're taller." Kimi said, trying to comfort the disgruntled man.
"It doesn't matter. I'm still the shortest here. I'm Chuuya. Chuuya Nakahara. Akutagawa's not that scary, he's just a really determined man, hence why he always seems so angry. He'll loosen up. He's had a lot of spies try to infiltrate and kill him recently, so I think he's just paranoid. You seem okay though. I hope so. I don't want to have to clean another persons brains off the tiles again." Chuuya said, smiling slightly.
"Literally?"
"Oh yeah. Guns are a scary weapon when used properly. Come, I'll lead you to a room, that one the maids set up. You finished eating?"
Kimi nodded, as the red-head led her down the halls, his own boots clicking against the white tiles.
He pushed open a door, as Kimi had to hold back her gasp.
The room was huge and elegant, a large queen bed filling the back corner, the legs of the bed made of dark oak which spiralled like vines, bed sheets a dark crimson.
Drawers on drawers lined the wall, a desk attacked to the end of the bed with a lamp set up, a bookshelf along the side walls, filled with a few random leather bound books, all looking rather old.
Kimi's eyes glanced over the titles, Rashoumon, No Longer Human, Beast beneath the moonlight - all old Japanese stories and poems.
"He's into old books?" Kimi asked, as Chuuya nodded, looking in the drawers and clicking his tongue.
"The maids put guy clothes in here. I'll sort that. It's not normal we get a girl addition to our team, so they probably didn't know what to do. Make yourself at home. Also, there's a phone in the desk drawer. You said yours was toast, so problem solved. It'll have mine and Akutagawa's contacts on it. It's all you need really, as no one else should be bossing you around." Chuuya explained.
"So you're like, his right hand man?" Kimi asked.
"Basically. I've known the man for years, and through his teenage emo phase - we all have one, but his was bad. Anyway, he trusts me and I trust him and his judgement. Don't break his trust, he doesn't forgive easily."
"I'll remember that."
"Good. Now shower, freshen up. Down the hall on your left. Then get some sleep. A maid will wake you up in the morning. Goodnight Kimi." Chuuya said, waiving as he wandered out, leaving Kimi alone,
She sat down on the bed, staring at the carpet.
"What the hell are you doing... this is so stupid, and so dangerous."
