Echoes of laughter by the two childhood friends filled the Kannan's house as Aaradhya watched them intently, impatiently waiting for a certain friend of hers' arrival.
A sudden knock on the door gave an smirk to Aaradhya's face. “Uh, Shreyas, can you do me a favour?”
Shreyas looked up from their sofa, “Oh yes, ofcourse! What is it?”
“Can you please check who's on the door?” Aaradhya asked. “I kept cookies on the oven, which might be ready anytime soon!”
“Come on, Aaradhya, is this how you treat our guests?” Aaditya groaned as he shot a glare at her.
“Come on, if I said it to you, your lazy ass would've asked Shreyas anyways,” Aaradhya commented which made Aaditya roll his eyes.
Meanwhile, Shreyas walked over to the door and had gotten a pleasant surprise when he opened it.
“Where is he?” Samira said breathlessly, as she took her breath, not noticing Shreyas standing in front of her.
“Where is who?” Shreyas asked cluelessly as he watched Samira.
Samira's eyes widen in shock as she realised who it actually was and silently scolded Aaradhya for her devious plan. “E— Enzo! Aaradhya's cat!”
“Oh,” Shreyas uttered, making way for Samira to get in. “How are you, Samira? It's been awhile we have met eachother!”
Shreyas couldn't help but notice how much prettier had Samira gotten in the days he hadn't seen her— if it was even possible. A small smile tugged in her lips as Samira responded, “I am fine, what about you, Shreyas?”
“Oh, I feel so good now that I have seen you,” He teased, Samira chuckled.
“I am honest, Samira,” He wanted to say, “Since the day, I have met you, you have been the first thought every single morning.” However, Instead, Shreyas said—
“Come on, let's get in,” Samira agreed, hiding an small disappointment in her face. When Shreyas and Samira entered the living room, the two cousins, Aaradhya and Aaditya seemed to be in a deep conversation.
“You can't just do that!” Aaditya whispered.
“The two are idiots, Aaditya! We only have to just— bake the pancakes!” Aaradhya suddenly exclaimed, which made seem Aaditya clueless.
“What do you mean bake— oh you idiot we don't bake pancakes, we cook them!” Aaditya scolded, Aaradhya stuck her tongue out.
“Anyways, what are you two up to?” Aaradhya asked to Shreyas and Samira, with a hint of mischief hidden deep beneath her voice. Aaradhya held a knowing smirk in her, which made Samira roll her eyes.
“We should ask that to you two, what are you both hiding from us?” Shreyas asked, searching for any sign left in the two cousins' face.
“No— Nothing!” Aaradhya quickly covered up, “We were talking about some certain someone's soon to be engagement with another certain someone,”
Though Shreyas remained clueless, Samira's jaw dropped in shock. “Wait— are you saying that...—”
Aaditya took the nearest object he could find to hit Aaradhya, “I wanted it to be a secret! I trusted you!” Aaradhya laughed as she got away from her brother. Aaditya chased her, as the two siblings disappeared in to the home.
“These two are something,” Shreyas sighed. “They hadn't changed a single bit,” Samira laughed at his comment.
“How did I not know you knew Aaditya?” Samira wondered out loud, as Shreyas smiled at her. “If I did, we could've been meeting up regularly!”
“Well, we atleast met again anyway,” Shreyas comforted her, “I am sure the fates have something up for us,”
The two continued their conversation, exchanging memories and experiences with eachother as they rekindled the affection and love they had been longing and yearning for ages.
Shubman sighed as he finally got into his home, feeling the warmth and comfort it held as he fell in the sofa. “Home sweet home,” He muttered to himself.
He closed his eyes, as he recollected all his thoughts and what had been going on lately in his life.
“And so about our kis—” Shubman started, but was immediately interrupted Aaradhya.
“I have no idea what you mean, Shubman,” Aaradhya said, “It was just a cover up,”
“But I know it's not, Aaradhya,” Shubman silently said to himself, as the heavy weight in his chest lingered as he drowned his own thoughts.
The sudden buzz of his phone made him sit up, and took out his phone from his pocket, silently wondering who might be calling him at midnight.
His heart started pounding fast, when he read her name. “However, you never fail to give me those butterflies,” He whispered to himself, as he answered the phone. Before Shubman could say anything, he was interrupted by an strange voice.
“Good evening, Sir,” the voice said. “I am Stella, manager of Star Drinks.”
“Hello,” Shubman replied, with sole confusion. “May I know why you have my girlfriend's phone?”
“We called you to speak about it, sir,” The receiptant said, “Miss Aaradhya came to our pub and may taken alcoholic drinks a little too much, We think it's not too safe for her to drive alone in this hour at this state. So, I thought y—”
“I will be there in ten minutes,” Shubman confirmed, his heart racing with concern and wonder of what made Aaradhya be in such state.
STRANGE BUT GOOD, was the only in thing he could say about Aaradhya's somber state. When Shubman entered the pub— he was immediately struck by a surprise, when he saw Aaradhya laugh and run over to him like a golden retriever when she saw Shubman enter.
“Shubii! You're finally here!” Aaradhya giggled, with wrapping her arms around Shubman's neck and pulling him into an embrace. “I thought I had to go home alone— yelp! — but now I don't have to cause you're here!”
Shubman wrapped an arm around her waist protectively and couldn't help but chuckle at her sweetness. “Well, do you want to go home now, love?”
“Yes please!” Aaradhya yawned, not daring to move a step away from him, “I feel so sleepy..”
When Shubman successfully managed Aaradhya to sit in the car, he swiftly got in to the driver's seat and fastened his seat belt. Feeling comfortable in his seat, he looked over at Aaradhya, who had her head outside the window, enthusiastically waving at an random individual passing by. “Aaradhya,” He called out, “Put on your seatbelt,” He adviced.
Aaradhya looked at him, with disappointment. “But, I want to look at the city!” She whined, “Look, it's so pretty!”
Shubman couldn't help but chuckle at Aaradhya's drunken state. She was a mess, but an adorable one.
He gently reached over and buckled her seatbelt into place, making sure she was safely secured for the ride home. As he leaned over, he could smell the alcohol on her breath. Despite her condition, Shubman couldn't help but think to himself how absolutely adorable she was when she was drunk.
Shubman brushed a stray of her hair aside, his touch being tender and sweet. His eyes lingered on Aaradhya's, and noticed how it shined in the dim light. “You're so hot, Shubman, Have I told you that?” Aaradhya mumbled to him.
“No,” Shubman teasess, “I am surprised you noticed my charm, love,”
“Well, how could I not?” Aaradhya told him, as if it was some most obvious fact. “You are irresistible, Shubman Gill!”
Shubman started the engine, as the car slowly started moving forward. A silence lingered for few minutes, which was then broken by Aaradhya yet again. “I just noticed something,”
That piqued Shubman's interest, “What might that be?” He asked with a rising curiousity.
"The fact that you still don't know why I'm mad at you. It's like trying to explain rocket science to a toddler." She giggled, clearly not making any sense, but amused by her own words.
“Why are you mad at me then?” Shubman asked her, his voice still playful, yet an confusion arised in him.
Aaradhya giggled again, “See! You don't know it!” Just be glad you're cute, Aaradhya, He thought to himself, wondering why the woman beside him was angry at him.
“Did you know I have tried eating a stapler when I was a baby?” Aaradhya asked him, pointing her little scar above her lips. “I accidentally pinned my lips on the way,” She laughed at the memory, unbeknownst of the fact of the fact that she's going to have a huge hangover and an embarrassment next morning.
“Did you really now?” Shubman asked her, chuckling as he imagined an tiny Aaradhya trying to eat an stapler.
“I cried the entire day like a baby I was,” Aaradhya went on. “Aaditya never failed to forget it, he reminds of this incident every five days! As if he didn't try eating an toothpaste, that too when he was seven!”
As Aaradhya talked about her childhood, Shubman listened to her every word intently. His heart warmed with affection and love, as he admired her drunken ramblings. “You're cute when you're drunk, love,” Shubman told, finding it hard to drive when Aaradhya just sat there, rambling so cutely.
The car ride soon came to a stop with Aaradhya slowly realising a fact, “Oh no, Shubman!”
“What happened, love?”
“Someone changed my home at all! Look! It does not look the same at all!” Shubman chuckled at her realisation and seeing how clueless she was about her location.
“That's because, we might be in my home, not yours,” Shubman told her, as she nodded in return.
“Oh,” Aaradhya said, forming an 'O' shape in her mouth. “Why are we here?”
“Cause it's like midnight and I forgot where your home might be,” Shubman explained. “And also because of the fact I am scared that your brother might kill me if he saw me with you at this hour,”
Aaradhya chuckled at his explanation, “You're funny sometimes!”
“Only sometimes?” He teased her, as he unfastened his seatbelt and gotten off the car, as he walked over to Aaradhya's side of door.
“Hello! Nice to see you!” Aaradhya enthusiastically greeted him.
“I have been with you the entire time, sweetheart,” Shubman pointed out, as Aaradhya rolled her eyes at him for that.
“I meant the fact of you see you here, in this angle!” Shubman nodded at Aaradhya's words, as he wrapped an arm around her waist to support her.
The door opened with a soft click, as the two finally got in his home. “Your house smells like you,” Aaradhya remarked.
“Thank you,” Shubman muttered, an smile was permanently plastered in his face as he looked at Aaradhya's adorable self. “I have few of Shahneel didi's dress with me, would you like to change into something comfortable?”
“Can I have yours?” Aaradhya asked him, giving him her irresistible puppy eyes. “Please?”
The next second, Aaradhya was twirling herself around, giggling like a little girl, she actually looked like one this time. Shubman's white shirt was pretty loose on her, so was his red plaid pants.
“I look cute,” Aaradhya declared, as she admired herself in the mirror.
“You are cute,” Shubman repeated, as Shubman admired Aaradhya. “You should sleep,” Shubman commented, to which Aaradhya pouted.
“Already?” She asked him.
“You were telling me you were tired,” Shubman reminded him, while Aaradhya yawned.
“Yeah, I am,” She utters, as she fell on Shubman's chest. Shubman quickly adjusted to her sudden response, wrapping both her arms around her.
Shubman slowly guided her to his bed, hearing all Aaradhya's slurred words as the pair entered Shubman's room. He softly made her lay on her bed and wrapped bedsheet around her body.
“smells— you— night,” was the only thing Shubman could make out from Aaradhya's sleepy whispers. It could mean anything, but Shubman decided to not to dwell on it too much.
“Good night,” Shubman softly whispered in her ear making Aaradhya chuckle either at his action, or in her sleep.
He decided to sleep in the sofa, not wanting to any chaos like he once did few days ago.
The night continued, so did the confusion and wonder of what made Aaardhya dislike Shubman this much.
He slept, determined to get to know the answer soon enough.
