CHAPTER TWO

Given that none of them had ever been in a car before, Rain thought the others were handling it pretty well. Meanwhile, she was peering out the windows trying not to puke. Finally, a 'Welcome to Auradon Prep' sign appears and the group is met with a full marching band, bright colours and poster.

"This is definitely...different," Rain mutters and Evie grabs her hand, quickly giving it a squeeze. She knew her too well.

When the limo stops the VKs slowly file out, and they see what seems like hundreds of faces, the closet people to them are a brunette in a baby pink dress, a woman in a tighter blue dress and a boy in a dark blue suit with dirty blonde hair - Rain would assume that was the prince.

Behind Rain, Jay and Carlos tumble out of the car, fighting over what appears to be a blue blanket.

"Boys," she warns, voice verging on threatening, they keep fighting and she snaps her fingers sharply "Boys!"

"We have an audience," Mal tuts, giving a fake smile to the people standing in front of her.

"Leave it like you found it! And by that, I mean just leave it." The woman states clearly.

Jay throws everything he stole back and he and the rest of the VKs form a line. Jay, Mal, Rain, Carlos and Evie. Said line is broken when Jay steps out.

"Hello, foxy. The name's Jay," he introduces himself to the girl in the pink dress and she laughs awkwardly. Rain rolls her eyes as she focuses on the prince. He catches her eye and smiles, causing Rain to widen her own eyes and quickly put her attention on the older woman.

"Welcome to Auradon prep. I'm Fairy Godmother, headmistress,"

"The Fairy Godmother?" Mal asks.

"As in 'Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo'?" Rain questions whilst also doing wand movements.

"Bibbidi-bobbidi. You know it."

"Wow..." Rain mutters, faking interest. She couldn't care less.

"Yeah, I always wondered what it felt like for Cinderella when you just appeared, out of nowhere, with that sparkly wand and warm smile." Mal continues.

"Oh,"

"And that sparkling wand." Rain suppresses a smirk, real subtle Mal.

"That was a long time ago. And as I always say, 'don't focus on the past or you'll miss the future'."

Mal glances at Rain and their eyes meet quickly, things to laugh about later.

"It's so good to finally meet you all. I'm Ben." The boy finally speaks.

"Prince Benjamin. Soon to be king." the girl squeals. How pretentious, Rain didn't like her, and they'd barely been there two minutes.

"You had me at 'prince'. My mom's a queen, which makes me a princess." Evie steps forward offering Ben a flirty smile whilst he avoids eye contact.

"Evie," Rain scolds, gesturing her hand backwards, Evie nods, stepping back.

"The Evil Queen has no royal status here and neither do you." Bitch.

Rain's gaze hardens, stepping forward "Well..." she drawls "she has status on the Isle. Thus, she should be treated as a visiting Royal, correct?"

"Uh-"

"Because as far as I'm aware The Kingdom of DunBroch isn't in Auradon, and you would treat Princess Merida with the utmost respect, right?"

"Well of course-" the girl stutters

"Good," Rain gives her a cheery smile and as Ben bites his lip, a small smile coming to his face, Evie looks over at Rain gratefully.

"This is Audrey-" Ben gestures.

"Princess Audrey. His girlfriend. Right, Bennyboo?" Rain snorts and Ben glances over to her whilst Audrey clings to his hand - him clearly being the only one to hear.

"Ben and Audrey are going to show you all around, and I'll see you tomorrow." Fairy Godmother flings open Ben and Audrey's hands, causing Rain to step back "The doors of wisdom are never shut. But the library hours are from 8:00 to 11:00. And as you may have heard, I have a little thing about curfews."

Everyone but Ben, Audrey and the VKs leave. Ben steps forward and goes in for a handshake with Jay "It is so, so, so good to finally me-" Jay punches his arm in greeting "Meet you all," Ben quickly moves on to Mal who takes his hand but quickly takes it back.

"This is a momentous occasion, and one that I hope will go down in history" he mumbles. Green meets green when Ben shakes Rain's hand and looks into her eyes.

When a few seconds pass, Audrey clears her throat and Rain suddenly takes her hand back, shoving it in her pocket, Ben's eyes stay on hers until he gets to Carlos.

"... Is that chocolate?" Finally, he moves on to Evie "As the day our two peoples began to heal."

"Or the day that you showed five peoples where the bathrooms are." Mal mocks

"A little bit over the top?" Ben turns to Rain and Mal

"A little more than a little bit." Rain smirks.

"Well, so much for my first impression." he laughs.

"Yeah," Rain smiles. Ben was cute, in a scared, lost puppy way.

"Hey! You're Maleficent's daughter, aren't you?" Audrey suddenly speaks, probably upset the attention isn't on her "Yeah, you know what? I totally do not blame you for your mother trying to kill my parents and stuff. Oh, my mom's Aurora. Sleeping... "

"Beauty! Yeah, I've heard the name." Mal interrupts "You know, and I totally do not blame your grandparents for inviting everyone in the whole world but my mother to their stupid christening."

"Water under the bridge."

"Totes!" They both fake laugh and Rain genuinely smiles, she loved Mal.

Audrey then turns her attention to Rain "And you must be Mother Gothel's daughter!" she smiles fakely "Gabrielle-"

"Rain," she corrects "Rain Gothel,"

"Rain," Ben nods, a soft smile on his face and then he spins "Okay! So, how about a tour? Yeah?" He starts walking towards the large castle and everyone follows "Auradon prep, originally built over 300 years ago and converted into a high school by my father when he became king." Ben claps his hands, and the statue transforms into the beast. Carlos jumps into Jay's arms bridal style and screams.

"Carlos, It's okay. My father wanted his statue to morph from beast to man to remind us that anything is possible." Ben reassures him.

"Does he shed much?" Mal jokes trying to ease the tension.

"Yeah, Mom won't let him on the couch."

"So, you guys have a lot of magic here in Auradon? Like wands and things like that?" Mal inquires and Rain is suddenly reminded that they have a plan and a mission to execute.

"Yeah, it exists of course, but It's pretty much retired. Most of us here are just ordinary mortals." Rain snorts lightly at the word 'mortals'.

"Who happened to be kings and queens." she teases.

"That's true. Our royal blood goes back hundreds of years." Audrey gushes whilst wrapping Ben's arm around her shoulders. He seemed to reject the impulse to push her off.

Now she was no longer distracted, Rain can look around, and feel the heat from the sun, the isle has never seen anything like this, and she can't help smiling slightly as she basks in the sunlight. Ben notices before he looks to the staircase.

"Doug. Doug, come down!" He removes his arm for Audrey "This is Doug. He's going to help you with your class schedules and show you the rest of the dorms. I'll see you later, okay? And if there is anything you need, feel free to - "

"Ask Doug" Audrey interrupts.

"Why can't we ask you?" Rain raises her eyebrow.

"Um, well..." Audrey stutters again "Well, I guess you can" She was clearly not accustomed to people challenging her.

"Great! You'll be first on my list. I'm sure." Rain and Audrey both fake laugh before sighing in sync. Audrey makes a quick exit - dragging Ben with her, his eyes linger on Rain as he turns back.

"Hi, guys. I'm Dopey's son. As in Dopey, Doc, Bashful, Happy, Grumpy, Sleepy, and... Heigh-ho."

Evie steps forward "Evie. Evil queen's daughter." she flirts.

"Okay. So, about your classes, I, uh, put in the requirements already... the history of woodsmen and pirates, safety rules for the Internet, and, uh, remedial goodness 101." Rain looks over his shoulder and lets out a breathy laugh.

"Let me guess. New class?"

"Come on, guys, let's go find our dorms." Mal starts walking up some stairs, but Rain stays behind.

"Oh, uh, yeah, your dorms are that way, guys." Rain follows Doug's instructions and leads the others up the opposite stairs.

"Dopey, Doc, Bashful, Happy, Grumpy, Sleepy, and..." Rain can still hear Doug faintly.

"Sneezy," Carlos answers, patting his back.

The group separates at the two signs reading 'boys' dorms' and 'girls dorms'.

"Here we are," Mal points to a sign with her and Evie's names in cursive, Rain walks further down the hall and spots her own name. She watches Evie enter after Mal and hears a squeal.

Next to 'Gabrielle Gothel' is the name 'Ruby Fitzherbert'. Oh...oh no. Rain takes a deep breath and opens the door. Inside, one half of the room has hues of purple and yellow spread about and a blonde girl is sat at a desk, a large pile of textbooks next to her.

"Hi," The girl jumps, and Rain bites her lip, she wasn't going to laugh

"Hi!" The girl spins in her chair her eyes somewhat widen at Rain's appearance "You're Gab-"

"Rain," she quickly interrupts "Rain Gothel,"

"Rain," she nods "I'm Ruby um..." she looks around nervously.

"Yeah, read the sign,"

"Mhm," Ruby breaths in through her nose "Um, that's your side," she points to the darker side of the room, where blues and browns occupy the area "Obviously it used to be my whole room, so I just pushed all the darker stuff there for you, if you don't like it-"

"Wait," Rain looks at her "You had an entire room to yourself? Why couldn't I get that?!"

"Uh well Audrey kind of made a big fuss about it," Ruby coughs "So it was either they shoved a bed in the room with your friends, or you roomed with me," Rain rises an eyebrow, if there was a choice, why wasn't her name sandwiched between Mal and Evie's?

Ruby can sense the confusion "So I um, said you could stay with me, mainly just to spite Audrey really," she slaps her hand to her mouth "You can't say I said that. I mean all they'll do is phone home and Dad wouldn't care but-"

"Lips are sealed," Rain smiles "Um...thank you? For letting me share your room,"

"Our room," Ruby grins, finally comfortable "I guess in some messed up way your mum is like my grandma," Rain's eyes widen in horror.

After an awkward hour or so where Ruby tried out small talk, Rain leaves the dorm, heading to Jay and Carlos'. She flings open the door "Guess who my roommate is?!"

"Audrey?" Mal asks and Rain snorts.

"I think she'd rather die, no guess again,"

"Who can be worse than that-" Evie trails off, a grin coming to her face "Oh, don't tell me they put old Goldie's kid with you?"

"Mhm," Rain sighs, falling onto Carlos' bed and the group laughs, cackles even. "Bit sexist, you guys have way cooler stuff, and it looks better," Rain mutters, watching Carlos on a video game.

"Jay, what are you doing?" Mal questioned, heading over to his bed where he was looking at a pile of random things.

"It's called stealing,"

"Okay, what's the point?"

"Well, Mal, it's like buying whatever I want, except It's free."

"Rain isn't doing it - oh wait, that's because she has the common sense to know we can get whatever we want when we take over the world,"

"Wow M you sound just like your mom," Evie admires.

"Thanks, E," Mal puts a hand to her heart.

"You do it your way and I'll do it mine."

Jay goes to join Carlos and Rain rolls her eyes, trying to forget her mother's voice in the back of her head. "Your eyes will get stuck there Rainy!"

"Guys! Do I have to remind you what we're all here for?" Mal shouts, exasperated.

"Fairy Godmother, blah, blah, blah. Magic wand, blah, blah, blah." Rain lets out a laugh at Jay's behaviour and Mal glares.

"This is our one chance to prove ourselves to our parents. To prove that we are evil and vicious and ruthless and cruel. Yeah?" Mal loses her patience.

"Yeah" everyone looks down, their parents circling back in their minds.

"Evie, mirror me." Rain stands up and sits down at the table.

"Mirror, mirror on the... in my hand, where is Fairy Godmother's wand... stand?" The wand shows up in a glass case.

"There it is!" Mal exclaims.

"Zoom out" Carlos points.

The mirror then shows them a picture of the globe.

"Well, that makes it so much easier," Rain complains.

"Magic mirror, not so close. Closer. Closer. Closer." the mirror slowly zooms in

"Stop! It's in a museum. Do we know where that is?" Rain looks to Carlos who looks it up on his laptop.

"2.3 Miles from here."

"Let's go!" Mal leads the way out.

Rain turns back and shouts for Carlos to follow.

"Coming!" he stumbles after her.

Once at the museum, Rain leads them through an archway.

"Come on. Check your mirror." Mal turns to Evie.

"Is my mascara smudged?" she asks.

"Yeah. And, hey, while you're at it, why don't you see If you can find us the wand?" Rain's sarcasm goes missed.

"Sure R. This way." The group finds a security entrance, but there's a guard staring at all the security cameras.

"That's your mother's spinning wheel?" Jay asks, staring at the wheel sitting in the middle of the room.

"Yeah, It's kinda dorky."

"Carlos has a point," Rain agrees.

"It's magic. It doesn't have to look scary." Mal flicks through her spell book looking for the right spell

"I mean they must've thought it wasn't a cool enough artefact if it's next to some random security guard,"

"Shut up," Mal glares at Rain "Magic spindle, do not linger. Make my victim prick a finger," nothing happens.

"Nice going,"

"Impressive."

"I got chills." Jay and Carlos join Rain with the last two comments. They laugh and Evie bites back a smile.

"Okay, you know what? 'Prick the finger, prick it deep. Send my enemy off to sleep',"

The guard moves in slow motion towards the spindle before finally placing his finger on the needle and collapsing.

"Not so dorky now, huh?" Rain raises an eyebrow.

Mal goes to open the door, but it's locked, obviously. She rapidly flicks through her book and Rain stands up, stepping back "Make it easy, make it quick, open up without a kick," just as the doors open, Jay tumbles through, clearly, he'd tried to open it 'with a kick'.

"How did you know that?" Mal turns to her, envy in her eyes.

"I read my mum's book earlier when hiding from Ruby in the toilet," she says simply, walking forward into the room. Looking down at Jay, she kicks him lightly in the leg "Come on loser,"

They run through the halls until they reach a room, inside are mannequins of their parents. Each of them stares at their respective villain parents.

"Mommy?"

"Killer"

"I'll never forget Mother's Day again,"

"Mother knows best," Rain stares at Mother Gothel, her eyes are dead, and she's posed with her hands on her hips, a cunning smile on her lips. The figure looked just like her. Just like the woman who tormented her and would continue to after the wand was taken.

"Well, the wand's not here. Let's bounce," No one moves at Jay's encouragement "Let's go!" Rain and Mal don't move and Rain gulps, staring into her mother's soulless eyes. Evie drags her along, Rain's eyes still glued to her mother's figure.

It takes her a minute to reboot after seeing her mother's mannequin, but Rain's quickly back and she splits off from the group, going up a twisted staircase. Up top, is a white wand, gold spiralled around it.

"Evie go get Mal and the others!" Evie's footsteps get further away, and Rain looks at the wand's details. It looked good, like everything Rain could never be. When she was little, she wondered if someone like Fairy Godmother would appear and take her and her friends away, away from their parents and their ideas. She supposed she finally got her wish but was throwing the chance away.

Footsteps rush up the stairs and before Rain can say anything, Jay is reaching for the wand "Jay don't!" Rain screams. And the others join her protests. But it's too late. Alarms start blazing and the VKs cover their ears.

"A force field and a siren?"

"That's just a little excessive!"

"Let's go!" Rain leads everyone back through the museum.

In the security office, the phone starts ringing and Carlos grabs it without thinking, Rain hangs back with him.

"Hello? Uh, uh, just give me one second. One second. Uh, yeah, yeah. No, false alarm." he pauses.

Rain picks up the clipboard and shows it to him in confusion. Carlos runs his finger down until he finds it "It was a malfunction in the, uh, in the 714 chips in the breadboard circuit. Yeah. Okay. Say hi to the missus."

"Carlos!" Mal shouts

"You're welcome."

Rain pats him on the back "Good job,"

"Way to go, Jay. Now we have to go to school tomorrow." Mal shouts

"How was I to..."

"I literally told you to wait! Now we have to suffer through school and find a new plan!" Rain looks on the verge of crying in anger. What was her mother going to do if they didn't get the wand?
