The carriage arrived at exactly 11 am, and Rain was standing as still as possible, hoping maybe it'd drive straight past her.

It didn't.

"Wow," Ben is already sat in the vehicle, dressed in a bright blue that could be spotted from miles away "You look stunning,"

"Oh," She looks down at the strapless gown, her hair falling in front of her eyes "Thank you,"

She'd spent the morning in Evie and Mal's dorm, Evie had awoken her with breakfast and a kind smile, promising to help her get ready.

Her hair had been half tied, leaving soft curls at the bottom and front, and her makeup left simple, jewellery complimenting the gown she adorned.

Ben stands, opening the carriage gate, and putting out a hand. Rain lets out a small smile and takes it, together, he and a footman help her up.

She stumbles slightly, gripping Ben for support as he laughs, Rain rolls her eyes and looks up, finding her grinning boyfriend.

"Hi," he grins, and the anxiety swirling in Rain's stomach stills for a few seconds, allowing her to smile back.

"Hey,"

"Ready?"

"I guess," she lets him lead her to the seat, signalling for the driver to start moving again.

They sit in relative silence, Ben occasionally pointing out historical buildings in the distance, as they approach the cathedral, the crowds get larger, and people cheer for Ben.

Maleficent would ruin this entire kingdom. She wouldn't waste time, transforming the beautiful landscape into her own home, darkness swarming the streets. People would be forced to pledge allegiance to her, and if they didn't...

Rain doesn't think, and reaches out, grabbing Ben's hand and grasping it in her lap, her rings digging into his skin. He doesn't comment, merely smiling, giving her hand a squeeze back.

"Oh, and here comes Ben now!" Rain looks up at the familiar voice, seeing Snow White, surrounded by a camera crew, an award-winning smile on her face. She looked just like she did on TV, her long black hair tied up in an intricate bun, cheeks blushed, and wrapped in a beautiful gown, white blossom climbing up a deep red silk fabric.

"Don't be nervous," Ben speaks up, making Rain turn to look at him "All you have to do is sit there and look beautiful. No problem there." Rain tries to hold back a smile, but fails.

"Thank you," she manages to get out, avoiding his eyes.

"I uh-" Ben stops himself "Would you wear my ring?" Rainy looks down at their linked hands, seeing the large beast crest on his ring finger.

"Uh, not...now," the thought of it makes her feel sick "It'd probably fall off my dainty...womanly hands?" Ben practically barks out a laugh and Rain cringes at herself. "Don't say anything,"

He nods, and looks away from her, biting his lip and smirking. He was too kind, too smart, too good for Rain.

This had gone too far.

"I need to tell you something," she blurts out.

"Hm?"

Before she can think any further, her mouth is open and moving at twice its normal speed. "I cast a spell on you. Well, not really cast because it was through cookies, so I just put a spell on you, but that's a song right?"

"It is a song," he nods, shockingly carm

"Anyway, it was a confidence spell, so like, not like a love spell and I forced you to take me on a date or anything. Well actually maybe -"

"Rain,"

"The other option was actually a love spell but that felt wrong, so confidence spell it was -"

"I know,"

"-It wouldn't have made you do anything you didn't want to..." Rain trails off, her eyes glancing up at the smiling prince "What? You knew?!"

"That you spelled me? Yeah. Yeah, I knew" Ben laughs

Rain's jaw is practically on the floor, and her panicked expression has softened, she glances down at their still interlinked hands "How?"

"Well, it was more of a suspicion," he admits "I had so much energy and felt like zero embarrassment, I did some reading and found the effects of a confidence spell,"

"I uh-" Rain isn't sure what to say, she isn't even sure why she admitted to all of this

"Look, It's fine," Ben assures, grabbing her other hand "I mean, you had a crush on me. I was with Audrey. You didn't trust that it could happen on its own. Like you said, it didn't make me do anything I didn't want to do,"

Rain is speechless, and she doesn't even protest when Ben slips his ring onto her right hand.

On the Isle, the Villian's hideout was unusually quiet, the static sound of the TV echoing against the walls.

Maleficent was sat with a bowl of popcorn her allies around her, Mother Gothel sprawled in an armchair, separated from the others. In her hands was a lock of deep brown hair which she twirled around her fingers, eyes trained on the TV.

It cuts from Snow White to a Horse-drawn carriage, the king-to-be is helping an unfamiliar girl onto the ground, she looks up, and the Villains gasp as they recognise her.

"Well, if it isn't..." The Evil Queen stares in disbelief

"My daughter!" Mother Gothel exclaims, disgusted "Looking like some kind of -"

"Princess!" Snow White says on the screen "In certain lights, you'd think she was here with the Coronian Royal Family!" Maleficent side eyes Gothel.

"For those who have just joined, Prince Ben has finally arrived, and with his rumoured girlfriend, Gabrielle Gothel. Now, let's see who this beauty is wearing," She takes a card off someone behind the camera "Evie Grimhilde..." she trails off, her eyes widening, slowly she composes herself "Princess Evie Grimhilde made her gown,"

"That's my daughter!" Evil Queen exclaims happily, standing up and staring at the TV

"Oh, wow. She sewed a dress," Mother Gothel mutters dryly "Meanwhile, Gabby's convinced a prince she loves him, and is minutes away from grabbing that wand we all want so desperately,"

"Bitter, party of one. Bitter, party of one!" The Evil Queen chants, Gothel lunges for her, but Maleficent also stands, causing a stop to the squabble.

"It's happening, people! It's happening!" she circles the sofa "I say, gird your loins! Gird your loins!" She dramatically stands by her 'throne' "Villains, our revenge begins today!".

Trumpets blast with each step Ben takes, Rain is right beside him, both hands concentrated on holding her gown up. When they reach the top of the steps, his parents greet them.

Rain curtsies, but is specifically angled towards Belle "About last week, I just..." she begins to apologise.

"I told Ben this wasn't going to be easy." Adam interrupts, and Rain glances at him, almost resting her face in a glare until Ben speaks, wrapping an arm around her waist.

"You also taught me that a king has to believe in himself. Even when it isn't easy," Ben's voice is almost challenging

"I did? I..." Before he can get further, Belle slaps him on the arm "...How very wise of me,"

As Ben continues his talk with his parents, Rain's mind wanders. She was trying so very hard not to let her eyes tear up at the thought of what was about to happen.

Eventually, Ben leads her away and towards the cathedral doors, he stops and looks anxiously at the building "Wish me luck,"

Rain wraps her arms around his shoulders, pulling him down to her chest and squeezing tightly.

She isn't sure if the hug is for her or him.

"Good luck," she whispers, and his own arms are wrapped tightly around her. She shuts her eyes for a moment, trying to forget about the future for a moment.

Eventually, she has to pull away "Don't worry, all you have to do is stand there and be crowned king,".

Rain was escorted through the crowds by a helpful guard, occasionally she had to stop, waving to Honey-May and Taylor, who was wishfully staring at Evie up on the balcony.

Ruby and Mal had said hi, both with linked arms standing by Ruby's parents. Only Rain saw the sad glance Mal gave her date.

People slot into their assigned places pretty easily, and soon, the heavy doors open, and Ben appears.

He's walking so incredibly slowly, Rain's sure it's tradition but it's making her breath stagger, the anticipation of what's to come appearing in waves through her stomach.

He reaches the front finally, and Rain curtsies, she wants to give him a wink and reassuring smile, but she can't.

Not when her eyes are trained on the wand

'Grab it and run, we'll be coming in from the back'

Fairy Godmother takes Beast's crown off a podium as Ben bows on the steps. Rain's eyes glance around the room, catching Ruby's royal gaze, she grins, whilst Mal nods. Up on the balcony, Evie is gripping the railing tight enough to turn her knuckles white, Jay and Carlos stand next to her, Carlos holding Dude tightly.

Carefully, the crown of Auradon is placed on Ben's head, and the Fairy Godmother gestures for the wand to be brought to her. The glass is lifted and Rain takes a deep breath. She should take it now, before Ben becomes King, and whatever comes next is his problem.

"Do you solemnly swear to govern the peoples of Auradon with justice and mercy as long as you shall reign?"

"I do solemnly swear,"

"Then it is my honour and my joy to bless our new king,"

Too late.

Rain takes a breath, and steps forward.

"Child, what are you doing?!"

It's not Rain's hand around the wand, it's Jane's.

"If you won't make me beautiful, I'll do it myself!" she struggles with the power of the wand, grasping it with both hands "Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!" gold sparks fly out of the wand, but Jane looks the same.

In the panic, Ben has run in front of Rain, his arms defending her, and Mal has run up to Jane, fighting for control of the wand.

"Rain, some help?" she seethes out, seconds before lodging the wand out of Jane's hands, the other four VKs have rushed down from the balcony and are standing behind Mal.

"Mal..." Ruby has moved into the aisle and away from her parents. "Give me the wand."

"Stand back," she warns, backing up into her friends "Rain, time to go,"

"It's okay,"

"Ruby, I said stand back!" Mal threatens, "Rain! Move, now!"

Ever since Jane snatched up the wand, the girl has not moved an inch or made any noise.

"Rain," Evie says gently, putting a hand out, on autopilot, she reaches back out, stepping away from Ben.

Carlos mutters impatiently, "Let's go," while keeping his gaze on the door.

"Revenge time," Jay emphasis

"You really want to do this?" Ben speaks up, his gaze fixed solely on Rain.

"I have to.."

"-You don't; you're good, Rain."

Their eyes meet, and Rain pauses to properly consider what she wants.

It wasn't this.

"Why are we doing this, Mal?" She asks honestly

"What?"

"Why? Why are we throwing away our only chance at a good life? And don't tell me it's about power," she scoffs "Your mother won't let you anywhere near the throne, you know that,"

Mal briefly glances down at the wand before firmly grasping it. " You don't know anything about my mom."

"Do you genuinely think things will get better if we give that to our parents? That your mum will treat you fairly now? Those kids on the Isle, I doubt anyone will care for them, for us. They'll still be poor and abused. It'll get worse; give the villains an inch and they'll take a mile,"

With a sigh, she turns to face her friends and asks, "Can we allow ourselves to be happy? Jay, do you want to go back to stealing every bit of gold you see? Desperately hoping something you bring Jafar will make him proud? Or do you want to stay here and play Tourney, be a part of a team?"

"Carlos, you don't want to be your mum's slave your whole life. You want to take care of Dude, and keep inventing things, playing video games,"

"And Evie," Rain chuckles. "You are so, so smart and so, so beautiful and you should not have to play dumb to get a guy or a prince. I know you love it here, and I know you'll thrive."

Rain takes a deep breath, looking at her teary eyes friends "I want to be happy, I want to stay here, and go to school because I'm really good at it actually," She laughs "I want to be with Ben," she glances back "Because he makes me really happy," he smiles, and Rain turns back to Mal "You all make me happy"

"What do I have?" Mal asks slowly.

"Me," Ruby has stepped forward "You're amazing Mal, you're so talented and stupidly funny. You want to do the right thing, I can tell,"

With tears streaming down her cheeks, Mal sniffs "How?"

"Because you'd have left already if not...Your parents made their choice. Now you make yours."

It takes a moment, but Mal lowers the wand "I want to be happy, and taking over the world with evil. It won't do that," she looks up at Rain, then the others "Us being friends makes me really happy. Ruby makes me happy. Not destroying things."

Rain smiles, and steps forward, taking the wand from her friend and giving her a side hug.

"I choose good," Mal puts her hand out, and Rain joins her, linking their fingers

"Me too,"

"Me three," Evie grins, and then Jay silently puts his hand in

"So, just to be clear, we don't have to be worried about how really mad our parents will be? Because they're gonna be really, really mad." Carlos reminds them

"Your parents can't reach you here," Ben reassures him.

"Okay, then..." his hand joins the others "Good,"

Grinning, Rain turns to face Ben and Ruby. "Come on," she gestures for them to join the circle, and tentatively, they do. Rain's head rests on Ben's shoulder as Mal pulls Ruby closer by putting an arm around her waist.

The crowd gives a brief cheer, and Rain is reminded that they are not alone - especially when there's a loud crash and the cathedral is filled with green smoke.

She couldn't have one moment of peace.

A few people scream, and Mal pushes Ruby back to her parents while Ben runs to protect his mother. This leaves the VKs standing by themselves in the middle of the aisle.

As the smoke clears, a horned figure emerges. "I'm back!" It shrills.

"It can't be..." Mal mutters disbelievingly.

"Jane," Rain grumbles, meeting her eye

Maleficent emerges from the smoke with a maniacal grin. Mal groans, "Go away, mother."

"She's funny!" Malificent snorts, "Oh! I'm so..." she trails off, looking at her daughter "You're very funny," Maleficent turns to Rain. "Here. Gabrielle, wand me. Chop chop," she makes grabby motions, and Ben calls out, just as Rain throws the wand to Fairy Godmother.

"Bibbidi-bobbidi..."

"Boo!" Everyone freezes as Maleficent's sceptre glows green, and she smirks, "Psych.".

Maleficent turns around to Beast, taking off his glasses and biting them, tracing his face "Ooh. Ooh, in another time, in another time,".

She takes the wand and begins to dance and sing softly around the podium.

"Evil like me, don't you wanna be mean..." she pokes the wand up Fairy Godmother's nose "Someone needs to pluck their nose hairs! Where shall we begin? I know. Why don't we start by getting rid of this?" Ben's ring flies off and onto the wand as she gestures to Rain. "Perfect fit!"

With a soft sob, the girl looks down at her hand and feels the cold air hit where the ring was.

"Oh stop the crying Gabby," the witch ducks under Fairy Godmother's extended hand "Oh, excuse me. Pardon me. Excuse me. The horns, the horns!" She comes out on the other side and slaps Ben's face in her direction, tilts his crown, and pushes him back so he can see Rain. As she approaches Rain, she tuts, "I told your mother you would never be one of us. Falling in love is weak and ridiculous. It's for heroes...like her," she points to Rapunzel

"Mo-"

"It's not what you want Mal. Observe how weak our little Gabby has become," she firmly holds Rain's chin, making her look into her eyes. "Couldn't even dupe a prince; you had to fall in love..." she slaps Rain to face Mal

"It's in her blood, Mal," Maleficent walks away, towards Ruby and her family. She runs her finger over Ruby's face. "So sad Gothel missed this family reunion," she glares back at Rain. "I told her you were more trouble than your worth."

"What are you talking about Mother?" Mal sighs, but Rain is silent, her eyes on Maleficent.

"She stole me, didn't she?"

"Oh, I thought you knew!" Malificent cackles "It's all rather obvious, Gothel never grasped subtlety."

The VK's gaze shifts from Rain to Ruby's family; Rain anticipates anger, but all she sees in their eyes is sympathy.

"You don't want what she has, Mal."

"You don't know what I want!" Mal defends, "Have you ever once asked me what I want? What any of us want! Rain is my friend! She's done more for me than you ever have!" Malificent raises an eyebrow, "I am not you."

"Oh, obviously," she laughs. "I've had years and years and years and... years of practice being evil. You'll get there."

"No, I will not," Mal pauses. "And I really wish that you had never gotten there yourself." she glances at Ruby, then to Rain and Ben "Love is not weak or ridiculous. It's actually really amazing, and I'd like to experience it,"

"You have no room for love in your life, Missy!" Maleficent's tone has changed, darker, and more violent. Mal trembles slightly and puts her hand out.

"And now I command, wand to my hand!"

The wand sparks and Maleficent tries to cling to it as gold swirls around it, it slips from her grip and flies to Mal.

"Ha! It worked!"

"I hardly think so. Frankly, this is tedious and very immature. Give me the wand," no response, Maleficent gets restless and starts to move about the room again "Give me the wand! The wand!"

Carlos steps forward, speaking quietly "Hold on, Mal. Maybe good really is more powerful than evil," he looks to the wand and Maleficent laughs

"Oh, please! You're killing me. Woof!" she barks loudly, expecting to scare Carlos but instead, Dude jumps up and attacks her "Ah! Oh, the breath! The breath! Get off me!" Dude is pushed to the ground, and Jay runs forward, grasping the sceptre.

Maleficent laughs, trying to push him away with force but failing, she flicks his forehead, green smoke emerging as he's pushed back. Rain runs to him, helping him stand.

"Enough! You all will regret this!" Maleficent starts to spin, and green smoke surrounds her, in seconds, she's turned into a large purple dragon.

"Run!" Rain screams, pushing her friends back. Jay has stood and fled in the other direction.

Maleficent tracks him through the cathedral, the green fire just barely missing him as he tumbles through the crowd

"Come on. Run!" Carlos screams and Jay rounds a pillar, towards the podium, Maleficent meets him there, somehow smirking, even as a dragon.

"Jay!" Rain rushes forward, but Evie pulls her back, running toward the doors with the rest of the group.

"Run!"

Jay turns and sprints towards his friends.

"Hurry!" Mal urges, and when he reaches them, Evie forces herself out front, mirror in hand "Magic mirror, show your bright light!" it reflects a large beam straight into Maleficent's eyes and she falls back, clawed paws over her face.

"Behind me, E!" Mal shouts, moving out front "Leave my friend's alone! This is between you and me, mother." The dragon pauses for a moment, sizing up its opponent before its eyes start to glow green.

Mal mirrors her.

"The strength of evil is good as none when stands before five hearts as one. The strength of evil is good as none when stands before five hearts as one," Mal stays strong, eyes getting brighter by the second, Rain grasps Mal's hand, a sign that they were all there, supporting her "The strength of evil is good as none when stands before five hearts as one!"

There's a sudden green smoke, and Mal blinks.

Her mother has disappeared, and in her place is a small lizard. The VKs rush forward.

"What just happened?"

"No idea," Rain responds

"Did you do it?"

"I don't know," Mal shrugs, bending down and looking at the creature "I think that's my mom,"

"Huh," Rain looks around, everyone is still frozen in place "We should probably unfreeze them,"

"Probably," Jay nods

"Hang on," Carlos steps forward "Time out. Mal just defeated her mother - who was a dragon. And Rain is Ruby's sister?"

"Yeah,"

"Yeah,"

"Pretty much,"

Rain looks over to the Fitzherberts, still frozen. Eugene is grasping Rapunzel's hand, as she stands protectively in front of Ethan. Ruby is still out front, mouth open in shock.

"Are you going to tell them?" Evie asks slowly, and Rain smiles

"No," she takes a deep breath, looking at her friends "They've already mourned their daughter. Let's leave it at that,"

"We'll do whatever you want us to," Mal comforts, and turns to the front of the room "Now, how do I unfreeze Fairy Godmother?"

"Point and pray?" Jay suggests

"Point and pray," she nods, and Fairy Godmother springs to life

"Oh! Children!" she runs forward and inspects the creature at Mal's feet.

"Did I do that?" Mal asks

"No, no, no, no. Your mother did. She shrank to the size of the love in her heart, "That's why It's so itty-bitty."

"Is she gonna be like that forever?"

"Well, forever is a long time. You've learned to love. So can she." Fairy Godmother smiles

"I believe this belongs to you," Mal carefully passes her back the wand, and Fairy Godmother accepts it graciously, before bending down to pick up something from the floor.

"And I believe this..." she reaches out to Rain "Belongs to you," It's Ben's ring, gleaming in the light, Rain laughs and takes it, slipping it back onto her finger.

"Thank you,"

"I'm proud to announce that you all have earned yourselves an 'A' in goodness class," The VK's laugh, and Mal and Evie high-five

"Does that give us free periods? Rain asks and Fairy Godmother smiles fondly

"Ask me next year," she turns, and starts to wave her wand "Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!"

In one simple movement, the entire room unfreezes, Ben charges forward and Rain jumps slightly before putting her hands out, stopping him suddenly.

"Okay, okay! We kinda got this all wrapped up here," she explains and he looks around slightly confused, seeing Mal hugging Ruby, and no Maleficent. He doesn't speak for a moment, and Rain places a hand on his cheek "You okay?"

A grin breaks out on his face as he reaches down, picking Rain up by the waist and spinning her around. She yelps in surprise, but giggles, letting him manhandle her before he places her down.

"Next time, I rescue you, okay?" Rain laughs and wraps her arms around Ben's neck

"Let's not let there be a next time, and if there is, let's be realistic," Ben gasps in mock offence, before pulling Rain in for a tight hug.

When they depart, Mal is talking with Jane, and before Rain can take a step, a blonde figure has barrelled into her, arms tightly grasping at her back.

"Hi, Ruby,"

"Hi," she pulls back, grinning "You're okay?"

"I'm okay," she nods, ignoring the familiarity in the girl's face.

Now she knew, well, how didn't she guess it earlier?

In the back, Mal argues with a guard, ensuring her mother was well taken care of, Ruby looks back and Rain smiles "Go get your girl,"

Ruby blushes, but goes to join the purple haired girl. Ben is talking with Carlos, Evie and Jay, as Rain approaches, she catches sight of Audrey, who gives her a small smile, and a polite curtsy. Rain returns the gesture before walking up to Ben and grabbing his hand.

Rain gives her a curtsy in return. When she gets back to the others, she leans into Ben's side, grasping Evie's hand tightly

"Shall we get this party started?" Jay questions cheerfully and they laugh before Evie starts a familiar school chant

"Ohayohay, hey!".

Night had fallen, and Auradon prep was lit up in bright, flashing colours. Whilst the parents had returned to their respective hotels or castles, their children were dancing around the back of their school, music blaring with fireworks exploding in the distance.

"Do you guys always go this crazy at paries?!" Rain is stood by a snack table, a glass of lemonade in hand.

Ruby just laughs "We don't get out much."

Many students had exchanged their gowns for matching party dresses, and Rain had unzipped her skirt, allowing the tiers to drop, and create a mini skirt. Ruby had a similar design in her skirt and had gasped after realising they matched.

"Oh!" The crowd quietens and a loud musical beat fills the area, Ruby grabs Rain's hand, pulling her to the main staircase.

The teens break out into paired groups. Rain and Ben were dancing with Taylor and Evie, circling each other before switching and meeting Ruby and Mal in the middle.

Jay and Audrey join the main group, and as partners mix and match, Audrey and Rain end up opposite each other, Audrey taking the 'male role' as she twirls Rain, handing her back over to Ben.

Ben leads Rain out to the front of the dance, leaning down, their lips about to touch and Rain smirks. ♫ 3, 2, 1, Uh! ♫

Then she turns her head last minute.

"Meet you up top," she grins and runs off, Ben rolls his eyes, but turns, running up the other stairs

When they meet at the top, Ben is still singing, but this time, only for Rain

Ben -

♫ Let's set it off! ♫

♫ Oh yeah ♫

♫ Let's set this off! ♫

Rain -

♫ Start a chain reaction ♫

♫ Never let it stop! ♫

Rain is grinning ear to ear, and as she and Ben dance, she looks off the balcony to see everyone dancing together. Audrey is sandwiched between Evie and Lonnie, hands up in the air as she cheers.

All -

♫ You can make it happen ♫

♫ With everything you got! ♫

♫ Let's set it off! ♫

♫ Get ready, set it off ♫

♫ Come on ♫

♫ We got to set it off! ♫

♫ (To the left!) ♫

Bright red fireworks explode up in the air, gold and blue following, Rain looks up in awe, a soft smile on her face. She feels a gentle hand on her chin, but pays in no mind, until her head is tilted down slightly, and Ben's lips meet hers.

A smile overtakes her face, and her hands find his cheeks, gently pulling back. He hadn't noticed she tilted his crown.

Oh. I was having so much fun, I almost forgot. You didn't think this was the end of the story, did you?

a/n: Happy Halloween! Here's a treat <3. 4000 words of Rain being hopelessly in love with Ben.
