Study buddy

"What did you get y/n?" Susan furrowed her brows as she looked over to my test.
"A fifty." I grumbled putting my hands, along with my test down to my sides.
"Gosh y/n. How can it get that bad?"
"I'm trying! It's just so confusing! I'll never EVER understand this stuff!"
"I mean I guess the only reason I'm passing is cause of Peter." She shrugged.
"Really?! Then I don't know why you're hassling me!" I slapped her with the test.
"Okay okay!" She laughed "I'll ask Peter if he's willing to help."
"Really?! You'd do that for me?!"
"Im not going to just let you fail!"
"You're the best!" I squeezed her tight and when I looked down at my paper again I knew it'd be the last bad score I got.

"Okay so how does after school today sound for studying? Peter is free this afternoon and we already have a session in mind so you could just join me."
"Okay. Sounds good!" I nodded. We stopped at my house so I could tell my household I wouldn't be home till after dinner.
"So?"
"I'm good to go!"
We walked to the pevensies and the girls took their shoes off. I followed in suit and they took my coat and book bag from me.
"Peters in the kitchen, just go ahead and sit down."
I nodded nervously and walked into the kitchen.
"You must be y/n." Peter smiled.
"Uh, yeah. Hi." I waved measly and sat down.
"I'm Peter."
"Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too. Susan says you need help with government."
"Yeah I'm... not doing to well."
"That's alright. It can be hard to understand."
"Really hard." I laughed. He chuckled and looked down with a smirk. His hair flopped in front of his face and the sun cast a yellow ray through it. I wasn't going to lie to myself and not admit he was absolutely gorgeous, but that wasn't what I needed right now. I needed help or I was going to fail this class.
Susan walked in not long after and set down as she pulled her hair up
"Right so I think we should start with the less on you guys are on right now." Peter cleared his throat and flipped a couple pages of Susan's notes.
"Susan is the most intense note taker so literally anything that you guys learned in class will be in here." Susan let out a mocking laugh and socked Peter in the arm.
"Okay so let's start here."

After an hour or two the pevensies mom started to make dinner so we cleaned up our work and waited. We sat down and took a plate. I tried to eat as polite as I could and talked with the whole family.
Edmund seemed like the outcast of the family. I understood how he felt so I didn't take his rude comments to heart. Susan and Lucy joked with me like we always did and Peter seemed to be quiet. Their mom was very kind and took a lot of interest in me and what I'm studying.
"Peter says you're struggling in government." Their mom started
"Oh yeah." I chuckled "it just doesn't seem to stick in my brain."
"Well then you're lucky. Peters one of the best in his class. His professors actually recommended he seek a career in government."
"Is that what you want to do?" I asked him
"Yeah. It's interesting to me and I want to be able to have a voice."
I nodded with a smile and he gave me a quick smile back.
"So what do you want to do y/n?"
"Not entirely sure yet if I'm honest. Just trying to get through high school right now." Lucy and Edmund let out a laugh.
"Well I'll be very happy to help when you figure it out if you need any resources."
"Thank you."
Dinner went by and I helped clear up. Mrs Pevensie insisted I didn't need to since I was the guest but I wouldn't take no for an answer.
"Thank you for clearing up. You really didn't need to."
"It's my pleasure to help."
Mrs Pevensie smiled and walked out of the kitchen. She smiled at her kids and said "you've got a good friend."
They all looked at me with a happy face and dispersed as they pleased.
"Want to do another hour or head home?" Susan asked
"I think I'm going to head home. I have some chores to do anyway."
"Okay. You'll need someone to walk you home. It's dark already."
"I got it." Peter said slipping his shoes on.
"Thanks Peter. It's probably best a man goes with you anyway."
"Come on." Peter pushed as he handed me my sweater. I put my shoes on and grabbed the sweater from him. He lead me out the door and down the street. It was quiet outside. The wind was slow but still present. It brushed against my skin and made me shiver despite my sweater being quite warm.
"Still cold?" Peter asked
"A little." I admitted.
"Here." Peter shimmied out of his windbreaker and laid it on my shoulders. I pulled the jacket around my arms and hugged my body.
"I'm just up the road." I pointed to a grey house.
"I'll walk you all the way there. It's getting dangerous these days."
We made it to my front door and I turned to say goodbye.
"Thank you for all your help today. I really appreciate it. I'll let you know how my test goes."
"I appreciate the thought."
"Have a nice night Peter."
"You as well."
I turned to open the door but stopped. I turned around, quickly placing a kiss on his cheek and then going inside.
"Why did I do that?" I scolded myself as I walked to my room.

The next day Susan and I hoped for good test scores before we sat down to take the tests.
I opened the booklet and was surprised that I had little stress when looking at the questions. I actually knew the answers.
I flew through the test and sat back down confidently. Susan looked over in shock as she still had her test. Never before had I finished a test before her. She scribbled down some answers and turned in the test. We sat and waited for the grades and the teacher stood to hand them back.
"I'm very impressed." He nodded to me when he placed my test back.
In red numbers at the top. It read 87.

"An 87?! Can you believe it?! Look how beautiful it is!"
"Okay Einstein." Lucy joked as she rolled her eyes.
"How'd it go?" Peter asked as him and Edmund strolled up to us.
"Take a wild guess?" I grinned and hid the test behind my back.
"You flunked it."
"Rude! No! I did amazing." I held it out.
"An 87? Not bad." He ruffled my hair.
"Hey! That took 15 minutes this morning!" I tried to flatten the mess out.
"So I guess you don't need me anymore." Peter started walking, presumably to his house, but I grabbed the string of his bag and yanked him back.
"Uh uh. No way. I'm keeping you. You are doing magical things for me and there's no way I'm letting you go." I shook my head.
"Oh so you credit all your success to me." He grinned and straightened his sweater vest.
"Yeah yeah. I'm the one who took the damn test."
"Wouldn't have been possible without me though!"
"Take what you can get and don't be so greedy."
"Study tonight?"
"Can't tonight. Moms making me cook dinner."
"That's alright. Just let me know when you're free."

To say that Peter was the entire source of my success in government was an understatement. He helped me for weeks afterword, planning regular study days and then some extras when I was feeling particularly unconfident.
"Okay so then this section does what?"
I shifted my weight onto my arms. The carpet had left an imprint in my elbows which started to hurt. Peter and I found ourselves studying on the floor a lot. It was more comfortable and frankly helped me learn a little better. The notes sprawled out in front of us gave me a better chance at seeing a bigger picture and remembering everything.
"Ugh. I don't know." I whined as I face planted into the cream carpet.
"You'll get it. Here. Pick the card that you think matches."
"This... one?" I guessed.
"No."
"Why is this so hard?"
"It's getting to the end of the year. You've got to work a little harder."
"Can we at least take a break? I feel like we've been studying for hours."
"Yeah it's been almost three. We can take a minute."
I sat up and stretched. I sighed and rubbed out some sore spots in my back and legs.
"So your mom said you wanted to work with the government someday. Any idea where?"
"Not sure yet. Just know that that's where I want to be."
"That's fair."
"Any idea what you want to do yet?"
I shook my head and sighed.
"I don't know. Sometimes I just feel like I don't fit in anywhere." I looked down and fiddled with my pens trying to avoid eye contact.
"That's not true. You fit in here. With my siblings... and me."
"You guys don't count! I can't exactly make a living off of being friends with you guys."
"Why not? We could pay you just to be here!" Peter laughed and laid on his back, staring up at the ceiling.
I mimicked his movements and laid down next to him.
"That would be the life," I sighed and flipped onto my side. I pressed my forehead to his bicep and curled into a ball.
"Tired?" He asked quietly. I just nodded and he scooped me into him. He rested his chin on the top of my head and pulled his knees up to encompass me in his body.
"You're warm." I hummed in pleasure.
"Well thank you."
"I'm gonna stay like this forever."
"I think that might be difficult."
"True but it's not going to stop me from wishing I could."
"Jeez it's late." Peter looked at the clock on the wall. I was too busy feeling the material of his slacks on my bare legs. I grasped the back of his sweater vest and felt the skin of his neck and shoulder on my nose.
"I don't want to go home." I whispered into his shoulder grabbing a hold of his sweater harder.
"You have to. I'll see you at school in like ten hours."
"I'm still getting my extra study session tomorrow after school right?"
"Yeah, for your test on Friday?"
"Yep. Im gonna get the highest score in class. I can feel it."
"I believe you will. Come on." He rubbed my back in hopes I let go "let's get you home."
Peter walked me home, we were both quiet. I felt a brush on my hand and saw peters pinky brush mine. I extended my hand outward and he entangled his fingers gently.
He walked me up to the door and I kissed his cheek lightly before walking in.
"Goodnight."
"Wait! Y/n!" I turned around. "I know it's late and it's a lot to think about but... I like you. A lot. I think you're funny and so beautiful. And sometimes I ask you questions I know you know the answer to because I like to see you smile, and there's no time you smile bigger than when you get something right. And I watch all your little study mannerisms and habits and every single one is just so perfectly you. I really really like you."
I smiled up at him, I was unable to hold back any emotion from my face.
"I really like you too."
"Really?" I nodded and tried to contain the excitement on my face. "Could I... could I kiss you?"
"Yeah."
He stepped closer and placed his hand on my cheek. He tucked a hand around my waist and pulled me close to him. He didn't immediately kiss me, his eyes lingered around while our faces neared. He breathed softly, his breath smelled like peppermint and chocolate.
"Have you been sneaking the candy from my bag?" I asked lowly.
"Maybe one or two." He chuckled.
He leaned down and softly captured my lips in his. He was so soft. His touch just barely grazing my skin, his hold firm yet comforting, and the way he kissed was like he was trying not to break me. The kiss wasn't long, nor was it very passionate. It was a kiss that was testing the waters. The toe dip of kisses.
"You know you shouldn't be fraternizing with your students." I joked as I played with the collar of his button up.
"Well... I can't win all the time."
"That's not what your answer should be." I laughed and he joined in too.
"I'm kidding! And besides, you're not my student, you're more of a coworker."
"That's not as bad but still bad!"
"Would you just let me enjoy this?"
"Okay okay."
He backed away and waved goodbye.
"Goodnight." I waved.
"Goodnight."
