Epilogue: Festival of the Fallen

(Your POV)
Today was my date with Akeno, not just any date, the date where I decided to propose to her.

The two of us have been dating for a little over 3 years since I killed Almighty, making me 21 and making her 25. Yes, Akeno is four years older than me, and she was 20 when she went to Sacred King's. I don't know why either, but whatever. Akeno claimed that she liked my hair long, so I kept it like this. I was wearing my usual golden necklace, a dark blue Haori with a Koi design on the back, a white shirt, black pants, and traditional getas. I had my father's old ring in my pocket, and now I just had to make a plan as to how I'll propose to Akeno. The two of us will be spending the day at her shrine on Sylleblossom Island, which I may or may not have made just to make her happy. I arrived at the shrine Akeno lived at and walked up the stone steps carrying a bouquet of sylleblossoms and wisteria.

I always bring a bouquet of sylleblossoms and wisterias with me on one of our dates as a reference to one of our previous dates. It was one of our first ones, around three years ago, so it was a little awkward. We were walking through the town, when out of nowhere, thousands of petals of our respective flowers ended up raining from the sky. My hair was filled with sylleblossom petals and Akeno's had wisteria petals. Of course, both of us ran to find shelter underneath a nearby ramen cart. When we looked at eachother, the two of us laughed because of how random it was, confusing the ramen cart man. The two of us considered it our best date because it was fun for both of us, it was one of those simple things that is super fun with someone you loved. Later, I discovered that the reason for the flying flowers was because one of Kokushibo's students used a wind breathing style in the royal garden.

Despite that, Akeno and I consider that our best date yet.

I stepped onto the last step and saw my beautiful girlfriend, who was sweeping the stone ground that made up the foundation of the shrine. She looked the same despite all this time, and still had her usual ponytail, and the orange ribbon that held it up. The only thing that even somewhat bothers me was her current attire, which was her shrine maiden outfit, and while it most certainly suited her, she didn't wear a bra under it for some reason. Though Koneko told me she usually wore one, she never seemed to wear one with me around for some reason. Despite the fact I was breathing heavily, due to me being a shut in nerd and there being a lot of steps, Akeno didn't seem to notice me, instead, her back was facing me. I snuck up behind the girl, who giggled a bit for seemingly no reason, and I hugged her from behind, getting an excited laugh from Akeno.

"Heyo Akeno!" I greeted my girlfriend with a joyful laugh before setting her down, allowing her to face me fully and giving me a quick kiss on the lips, which I'm still not used to for some reason.

"Good to see you, (Y/N), you're still just as cute as the day I first met you." Akeno pinched my cheek with an amused yet cheerful smile on her face. "Are you excited to see what I have planned today?"

"Yes I am, but first, BEHOLD, THE SACRED TRADITION!" I overdramatically held up the bouquet of flowers, which are super easy to gather because I just happen to have a surplus of these kinds of flowers in my gardens. "For you."

"Thank you (Y/N)~" Akeno also has a garden behind the shrine, so she always puts the flowers back there, well, normally, we do it together whenever I'm not busy with my kingly duties. "Come on, I have tea in the house."

While it is true some may say the two of us are at that point where we'd live together, I don't want people to annoy Akeno if they catch her sleeping with me when we're not even married. So the two of us live separately, but I tend to stay over at her place whenever I can. Speaking of Akeno's place, it was a traditional Japanese house that happens to be slightly elevated. The two of us entered and sat on our knees on a small table. There were cushions to make the ground softer. On the table was a teapot on top of a burner and a pair of cups, Akeno poured some tea for her before pouring some for me. Out of everyone I've ever met, Akeno serves the best tea.

Despite the fact we've been dating for a while, I feel as though there is this distance between us. I want to close that distance between us, but I don't know how. I know Akeno's hiding something from me, and I was afraid she's been cheating on me, but Yang told me that's BS because of the way Akeno reacted when I asked her out and how happy she's been with me. Yang even had Zwei use his nose to find any signs that she's cheating. Zwei found nothing, and Kokushibo was called up next along with Kiibo, and they reported nothing. This went on for a while until everyone in my circle except for Akeno (I think) knew about my concerns, and all of them disproved them. While my anxieties were still there, they're almost miniscule because there's no one who can hide from all of us, including the other fragments of Xemnas, XV Lords, and Guardians of Xemnas. I quickly put together that Akeno must be insecure or worried about telling me something. Given the time we were together and my intellect, I came to the conclusion that it's something involving her past, she never did tell me about it.

"Hey (Y/N), I may not know that much about video games, but I wanted to say good job on your stream the other day." Akeno gave me a compliment, and I wasn't sure if it was genuine or not. "Taking out all five opponents in fifteen games is quite impressive."

"Thanks Akeno, but I want to ask you something." I decided to tackle this issue head on, because it appeared not only to be eating at me, but Akeno as well. "What are you hiding?"

"(Y/N), what are you talking about?" Akeno smiled, but we've been dating long enough for me to be able to tell she was using a fake smile. "We've been dating for a while now, and our friends even looked into it, and I'm not hiding anything."

"Akeno, I'm worried about you specifically." What I said caught Akeno off guard. "This issue has been bugging you forever, ever since we met, you've always been hiding something. I know I always support you and your decisions, but I can't support you in keeping this secret any longer. It's clearly been bugging you, and I want to help you. So please, tell me."

"(Y/N), this is a personal issue, you don't need to concern yourself with it." Akeno's black hair covered her eyes, but her smile never faded, even when tears began dripping down her face. "Oh my, am I crying? I'll be right back (Y/N), I don't want you to see me like this."

Akeno stood up from her spot and began calmly walking to the door, even when she was like this, she was always so elegant. However, I refused to let her run away from this, so I stood up and tried running after her. Unfortunately, I'm also a dumbass, who slipped on the cushion and grabbed Akeno before falling to the ground. The two of us landed in a somewhat awkward position on the wooden floor in the room, with Akeno beneath me and me on top of her using my hands and knees to support myself. My long hair was dawn and gravity pulled it all around my head, but I didn't care about that. My main focus was Akeno, who's now red eyes were looking at me with confusion and desperation for me not to look at her.

"Please...you don't want to look at me like this." Akeno tried to use her arm to cover her face, but I held the arm in place. "Why...why do you want to go out with someone as repulsive as me?"

"Akeno, you are many things, but repulsive is the last thing you are." I looked Akeno directly in the eyes to show I was being honest and genuine with my words. "Never call yourself that, Akeno, you are without a doubt the most beautiful person I've ever met!"

"Why...why would someone like you want to date someone like me?" Akeno and I sat up onto our knees as Akeno took off her top, revealing her full chest, but I was focused on what was coming out of her back...a single devil wing and single fallen angel wing. "This is what I've been hiding after all this time, just being by your side brought me so much joy, I couldn't bear the thought of you leaving me. So I kept my blood a secret. Since you want to know so bad, I'll tell you. If you want to break up with me, then I won't stop you."

"Akeno, is this what you were so worried about?" I asked, causing Akeno to nod, and in response to this, I wrapped my arms around her. "Thank you for opening up to me, and I understand your concerns, but they're completely wrong. I'm not going to abandon you, I'll be right by your side no matter what. You may see yourself as the ugliest thing in this world, and I perceive you as the exact opposite. In my eyes, you're the most beautiful girl in the world. Don't even bother arguing with me, I'm right, whether you want to admit it or not."

"Are you sure you're okay with someone as repulsive as I am?" Akeno asked while her face was in my chest and her hand was clinging to my jacket. "Look at me, I'm disgusting, and you, you're like the sun and moon. Warm and bright like the sun, while calm and beautiful like the moon."

"Yes, I am more than okay with someone like you." I wrapped my arms tighter around Akeno. "Have more confidence in yourself, you're nowhere near as repulsive as you say you are. To be honest, I kind of want to brag about you to anyone who will listen. Hell, whenever I'm streaming, I hold myself back from talking about you the whole time. If I could, I would brag to everyone about how great you are."

"You're just saying that." Akeno didn't sound convinced, but despite that, she wrapped both her wings around me tightly, kind of like a blanket.

"It's true, in fact, remember when Ichigo and Orihime came back for a visit?" I asked, and Akeno confirmed that she remembered. "While you were making tea, I did nothing but talk about you, I just changed the subject when you walked back into the room."

"Are you serious?" Akeno looked up at me, and I blushed before nodding my head to confirm that this was true. "You're just saying that."

"I'm not lying, Akeno, have you seen me lie, my eyes always go all over the place and I start sweating." I was 100% serious, I wanted Akeno to accept herself the way I accepted her. "How about I try convincing you." I locked lips with Akeno for once, since she was usually the dominant one, she almost always kissed first, and this is the first time in a while where I started the kiss.

The two of us stayed still until Akeno's need for oxygen forced her to separate, I didn't need to breathe with my mouth, I still had my gills. Akeno breathed heavily and I began stroking her back to show I will always be by her side. I'm usually awkward, but with Akeno, I feel more confident in myself.

"Please don't belittle yourself, that's my girlfriend you're talking about." I decided to go with a cheesy line to make Akeno cringe/laugh, which worked a bit. "There's the smile I know and love."

"It's not my fault you said something so cheesy." Akeno giggled a bit, and the two of us just stayed like this.

The two of us stayed just like this together for a couple more minutes before Akeno finally separated the hug and kissed me on the cheek. Akeno then helped me up and left the room to change for her plans. I didn't know what she was planning, so I decided to wait for her. Some more time passed, and Akeno came back to the room wearing a black kimono and emerald obi. Akeno had her hair down and the only accessory in her hair was the hairpin that used to belong to Aunt Yona that I gave her. Apparently, Akeno's plan was to go to the 'Fishie Fishie Festival' that was down the road. I never really went to festivals because balancing being a king of the world, a streamer, and the best boyfriend possible is hard.

Akeno and I left the shrine and headed down the dark road, where it was now dusk and the stars were coming out. Alongside the stars, there were many lanterns shaped like fish floating around. Akeno grabbed onto my hand and intertwined her fingers with my own as we began walking to the festival grounds, which were in the middle of the town. Akeno's eyes were still slightly red from earlier, but she seemed to be in a better mood now. Once we arrived at the festival, Akeno looked around the place in awe.

All the food and game stands had blue tarps with flowers decorating the poles holding them up, there were also flags that displayed small emblems of what each stand was for. For example, there was a game where you use a toy gun to shoot down metallic milk containers, and the emblem on the flag showed a gun shooting at milk containers. All these stands were lined against many of the buildings, and the line of stands led to the town center. In the center of the town was a fountain, and stands surrounded this fountain.

"So (Y/N), what game do you want to play?" Akeno asked, and even for me, it was hard to figure out what was going on through her head, but I noticed a panda stuffed animal I think she might like.

"How about that game?" I asked as I pointed at another shooting game, but I had to throw balls at metallic milk cans instead of using a gun.

"You want to get me a stuffed animal, don't you?" Akeno was always quite sharp, and I nodded in an embarrassed manner, gaining a light laugh from her. "It's fine, you don't need to get me one."

"But I want to..." I sheepishly looked away from my girlfriend, who placed her fingers under my chin and forced me to look at her amethyst-like eyes.

"I never said you shouldn't, silly." Akeno teased before letting go of me, and the two of us made our way towards the stand.

"Y-Your highness!" The person working at the stand was a middle aged man, but despite that, he looked like he was about to have a heart attack. "I-It's an honor to see you here."

"Yeah I've just been too busy with my job to come here, Luigi." I actually memorized all the names of everyone on this island, surprising the person working at the stand. "By the way, I came by to play this stand. Also, don't give me an advantage just because I'm the King, I like a fair game."

"O-Of Course your highness." Luigi gave me three baseballs and I gave him some coins, since sylleblossom island uses gold coins similar to yen.

I picked up the first baseball and aimed it carefully at a stack of metallic milk can and threw it at the bottom of the stack, knocking the whole thing over in a matter of seconds. I then picked up another ball and tried knocking over the next stack, and the last ball for the last stack. Luigi was impressed by this, and offered me any prize from the stand, but just one. I decided to go with the panda plushie I thought Akeno would like. When Luigi handed me the plushie, I gave it to Akeno awkwardly and the two of us continued down the festival's path.

"You're quite a cheesy boyfriend." Akeno giggled, and Irubbed the back of my head shyly. "But that's what I love about you, so thank you for the stuffed animal."

"No need to thank me, I'm just bad at showing how much I love you, so I'm trying the best I can to express my love." I awkwardly spoke and the two of us held hands out of nowhere. "So what would you like to do?"

"Since we're here, we might as well play some games." Akeno then started leading me to different stands where we competed against each other for the fun of it.

The two of us moved onto playing one of those games where you grab balloons with hooks to make small yo-yos, or whatever they're called. Despite Akeno's graceful movements with her hand, I managed to get three on one hook before she did. While I beat her in games, she was still better than me in terms of traditions. After getting our yo-yos, we heard there was a fireworks display, so I decided to take her to a special spot so we could see the fireworks better. I looked at the spot in question, which was a cliff overlooking the town.

I grabbed onto Akeno's hand and guided her through the crowd in order to get to the path that leads to the cliff. The stars were now out and dancing in the dark night sky. I guided Akeno past our friends and allies, who were all enjoying the festival, until we finally arrived at the cliff ledge. There was a bench nearby, so the two of us sat down on it, with Akeno's Panda plushie on her knees. She and I sat with our shoulders touching and our hands interlocked, and I was about to say something before the fireworks finally started.

Despite the fireworks supposedly being the most beautiful part of the festival, according to critics, my sole focus was on Akeno. She was gazing at the fireworks with amazement, which displayed images of each of me and the 69 warriors. The colors flashed onto Akeno's pale face and purple eyes as her long black hair flew in the wind. The fireworks went on for a solid ten minutes before finally stopping, and I used that final moment to stand in front of Akeno and reached into my pocket.

"Akeno, are you happy being here...with me?" I was starting to get nervous, since I was scared of getting rejected by the girl I loved. "I mean, going out with me and all, right after everything being put on the table-"

"Relax (Y/N), I do enjoy spending time with you, more than you can ever imagine in fact." Akeno looked at me, and I took a deep breath through my girls before getting on one knee. "Wait, are you doing what I think you're doing?"

"U-Um, Yeah." I was a blushing mess as I pulled out my father's old ring that he gave me, the same ring he asked me to give to the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with. "I was hoping you would marry me, Akeno Himejima, and make me the happiest man in the world."

"(Y-Y/N)..." Akeno then began crying before quickly covering her face using her hands, and I began to panic if she didn't want to marry me. "Sorry about this, I'm such a cry baby today. These are tears of joy, so of course I would love to marry you."

"Are you sure you want to marry me?" I wanted to confirm this, making Akeno laugh a bit. "I mean, I'm just a shut in neet with no redeeming qualities."

"You're the one who proposed to me." Akeno clasped my face with her hands and put very little distance between our faces. "Don't back out now~"

Akeno and I kissed for a couple moments before I finally wiped Akeno's tears and slipped the ring onto her finger. The two of us decided to watch the rest of the fireworks show together, holding hands with one another because now both of our pent up anxieties were in the open for us, and neither of us were judging one another for it. Akeno was a fallen angel, I wanted to marry Akeno, and both of us accepted each other greedily. It was okay to be selfish for one another, because both of us would be selfish for the other back. The two of us were sitting peacefully until a final firework went off, startling us both. The final firework was a purple and (f/c) image displaying Akeno and I getting married, along with orange flames under it saying 'coming soon'. I didn't announce my marriage on social media yet, nor did Akeno, so how did they know about it? Unless...

"JACK I SWEAR TO ME!" I would have done something, but I have no powers now, so I can do anything. "GET OUT HERE RIGHT NOW!"

"What?" Jack walked out of the bushes without a second thought, most likely trying to make the punishment easier to accept. "You always want to brag about her, so I'm doing the bragging for you."

"You know, it's not very nice for someone to announce someone else's wedding..." Akeno had both her fallen angel and devil wings out along with lightning cackling around her finger tips. "Now what kind of punishment shall I give you...?"

"Nope, I value life!" Jack tried running away, but Akeno struck him from a distance using lightning that looked somewhat different now, forcing the pumpkin man off the cliff.

"Sorry about that, you know how he can be." I decided to apologize about Jack's behavior, but Akeno merely kissed me again, but this time she used her tongue, and when she separated, I was a blushing mess. "Uh...."

"Oh don't be embarrassed now (Y/N), you married me, so you agreed to accept all of me~" Akeno teased with a light smile. "Besides, you're the first person to make me accept who I am, so in return, I'll accept all of you."

"Thank you Akeno." I held onto my new fiancé's hand and laughed a bit. "So where would you like to live? The castle is huge but it is rather noisy, so would you like to live at your shrine?"

"I'm okay with living anywhere, as long as it's with you." Now it was Akeno's turn to make me cringe/smile, and my reaction got an innocent smile from her. "What? Did I say something wrong?"

"Oh please, I can out cringe you any day of the week." I challenged my fiancé, who giggled in response.

"I'll take you up on that challenge, Darling~"
