Chapter XIV: The True Identity of Xemnas
(Your POV)
I sat up in my bed, it was all a dream, wasn't it?
My name was (Y/N) (L/N), I'm a college student at a college studying to be an archeologist. I'm from (Country Name), and I transferred here because they offered me a free education because I surpassed their expectations on the History exams. I lived in an apartment with a couple of other people. My room was pretty plain, just containing a bed, desk, and a dresser one of my roommates made. There were also history books, poems (old ones, like Shakespeare), and other papers all over the place, but hey, I'm not an organized dude. I got up from my bed and went to shower, but as I walked down the hallway, I was met with my roommate, John, he was from Hawaii. They guy was freaking huge, but despite that, he wasn't in college for sports, he was just super good at biology.
"Good morning, (Y/N)." John was wearing a green jacket with jeans as he held a cup of coffee. "Remember, Victor's being dungeon master tonight, so you can play as your artificer."
"Finally, I was getting sick of him trying to constantly seduce the dragon." I sighed, finally getting a break from Victor's antics.
One thing me and my friends all have in common is that we're all massive nerds, so we play dungeons and dragons almost every Sunday night, the only day our schedules lined up. We all grew super attached to our characters, like John plays as a Druid named Forest (top tier naming right there), and I play as an artificer named Xemnas. Still, with this new information in mind, I went to the bathroom and showered. As I showered, I smelled pancakes, signaling our other two roommates were making breakfast. I stopped the water and put my clothes on which were just a shirt and pants. I exited the bathroom and walked into the kitchen to see Declan and John making breakfast while Connor read the newest volume of some light novel he got.
"Mornin'." Connor greeted, he's from Ireland and is a physics major. He plays as a fighter named Casper, but he's actually got an interesting character. "Declan's making breakfast because I beat him in Rock Paper Scissors."
"I only lost because I knew you wanted to read that new volume of Monster Musume." Declan was from South Africa, plans on being a surgeon, and plays as a cleric named S3N0. "It just came in, so you should be excited."
"Have you tried getting a girlfriend yet?" John asked in a tired voice, he was kind of like the dad of the group. "You may not sleep with a body pillow, but I still hear you crying from my room at night."
"Well fuck off, I've tried getting a girlfriend and all of them reject me because I've never been in a relationship before!" Connor was super lonely, so he's a bit sensitive on the subject of relationships. "Besides, I only picked up this series when I officially gave up!"
"You know, I just had the weirdest dream last night." I commented out of nowhere, but everyone brushed it off because everyone has weird dreams. "Still, I had a dream where I was the son of Zeno, the yellow dragon from that manga I keep trying to get you guys to read."
"It's definitely one of those 'sparkle sparkle six pack' mangas." Connor commented, causing me to karate chop his head. "YOU KNOW I'M RIGHT!"
"YOU HAVEN'T EVEN READ IT!"
"Shut up, both of you, (Y/N), you have a meeting in an hour, so eat now." John orders, further solidifying his position as our illegitimate father.
"Yes sir."
After I ate, I decided to leave so I could get to class early. I grabbed my phone and keys before checking the rest of my person, then I realized I forgot my wallet. I exited the apartment and locked the door behind me. I turned my head to leave, but I also was met with two more of my friends leaving their apartment as well. It was Sky and Angie, two people who were also massive nerds. Sky was a chemistry major and played as a warlock named Creatia, while Angie was an anthropology major who played as a blood hunter named Angela.
"Bonjour (Y/N)!" Sky was French, and liked mixing her English with her French, to give some 'color' to her speech. "I take it you're going to that museum?"
"Yeah, I might as well work for a little to earn a bit of money." I rubbed the back of my neck. "By the way, how is Yuki holding up?"
"Yuki moved in with Victor, since they've been dating for three years now." Angie was Russian, and contrary to her name, she was a very calm and collected person. "Still can't believe it's almost been four years since we've all met at that convention."
"And Connor still hasn't landed a single date in that entire time frame." I decided to make a small joke. "What about you two? Why are you two out so early?"
"Angie is trying to do some research on the Celts, so we're running by the bookstore to pick up some books about them." Sky informed me, and Angie nodded in agreement.
"Well you two have fun, I have to get to the meeting." I walked past my two friends, who waved goodbye to me in response.
I exited the apartment complex and got in John's car, since we all decided to share a car, but John was the one who bought it so it's his. I drove out of the parking lot and started driving towards the museum. I was asked to act as an educator for the staff because I managed to replace several tour guides when I visited the museum for the first time by telling Declan about the things in the museum. Apparently I talked the entire time, because most families told their kids to listen to me instead of the tour guide. I reached the museum to see Arthur, Miguel, Cynthia, Hannah, and Sung and there for some reason. I parked the car and called out to them.
"Good morning (Y/N)!" Arthur was from Britain, his major was geology for some reason, and he played as a paladin in DND. "I heard this museum is hosting a meeting, I take you're a part of it?"
"Yeah, I am, I just need to educate some of the staff about some of the exhibits." I locked the car as I walked towards my friends. "Why are you guys here?"
"Hannah and Sung haven't been here yet, so we decided to show them around." Miguel was from Portugal, his major was computer science, and he played as a rogue in DND.
"It's not our fault we were so busy with our majors." Hannah was from Poland, was a meteorology major, and played as a sorcerer in DND. "We're literally trying to predict the weather."
"By the way, Victor has news for tonight, so you better show up to tonight's DND session!" Sung was from South Korea, was an ecology major, and played as a barbarian in dnd. "It's big, so expect big things!"
"I'll see you guys later." As I began walking up the steps to the museum, Cynthia grabbed onto my hand to hold me back. "Huh?"
"Careful (Y/N), the museum doesn't have anything on the atrocities this country committed, so watch your tongue." Cynthia was German, a robotics major, and played as a ranger in dnd. "I know how much you like to look into things involving history."
"Understood, I'll see you later."
I walked into the museum and explained why I was there, and the person at the entryway guided me to a meeting room. Inside I saw several employees, and I was to inform these guys about the history of his country. I was blunt about everything, answering everyone's questions one by one, but some people didn't like the answers I gave them. The answers in question all depicted the country in a negative light, talking about various atrocities, crimes, and moments of hypocrisy about the country, it's leader, or its people. Still, I pressed on, testing the people based on their knowledge on the lesson I just gave them. They appeared to be knowledgeable, but they refused to answer questions with answers that will make their country look bad, they said something about "patriotism" and "loyalty" to justify this.
I left the meeting in a slightly disappointed mood. I heard people around here were patriotic, but I didn't think their patriotism would blind them to the truth that their country did some horrible things, but I'm just pointing out the truth. I got back in the car and decided to pick up some lunch before I headed over to Victor's. I drove to a restaurant to order something, but inside I saw two more of my friends, Tony and Katia.
"Yo, (Y/N), over here!" Tony was from Italy, was a bacteriology major, and played as a monk in dnd. "I heard you were at the museum giving a lecture to some employees, so how did it go?"
"Pretty badly, if I had to guess, propaganda is everywhere, just not as obvious as it is in dystopian novels." I answered with an annoyed glance at the posters on the wall, which displayed several political groups.
"You should have known this kind of stuff before coming here, all of us aren't exactly fans of the way things are run here." Kim was from China, was a psychology major, and played as a bard in dnd. "Besides, once we graduate, we all plan on leaving anyways, moving back to our respective countries."
"What about those of you who are in a relationship?" I was confused because Kim and Sal were dating, do they want to break up without saying it? "Are you really going to do a long distance thing?"
"No, I'm probably going to move to Italy with Tony." Kin informed me, at least they won't be separated. "Yuki and Victor are probably going to either live in Spain or Japan together, whichever country has a better space program I guess."
"Say, isn't it getting late?" Salt asked as we looked out the window of the restaurant and saw the sun just over the horizon, I did expect the meeting to take up most of my day, but damn. "We'll see you at Victor's place (Y/N)."
"See ya."
The two left while I got my late lunch, or early diner depending on how you look at it. After I ate, I paid for my meal and left to head over to Victor's place. I parked the car in front of an apartment complex different from the one I was living in, and looked around for Victor's apartment. I knocked on the door and a familiar woman with red hair opened the door. Despite her name being Yuki, and meaning snow, Yuki's personality was warm and welcoming.
"Welcome (Y/N), we're in the living room, and I bought snacks for tonight!" Yuki was from Japan, is an astronomy major, and plays as a wizard in dnd. "We're waiting on Sung and Hannah, so you can just wait in the living room."
"Yo, (Y/N), what's poppin?" Victor was from Spain, and unlike the rest of us, his major was something somewhat simple compared to our sciences, he picked up a writing major. "We're gonna wait for Hannah and Sung to get here before starting, if that's alright with you."
"It's alright."
"Arthur, don't hog all the chips!" Connor's voice could be heard shouting from across the room. "DAAAAD, the British are making the Irish go hungry to fill their own selfish desires again."
"Stop calling me dad, and Arthur, share the damn chips." John proved his spot as the father figure.
We all waited for Hannah and Sung to arrive and they arrived a couple minutes later, and we began the game of dungeons and dragons with Victor as the dungeon master. To make things more fun, all of us grabbed random props out of a closet in the living room that suited our character classes. Yuki wore a wizard's hat, I had a pair of steampunk goggles over my eyes, John wore a flower crown, Sung wore a fake animal pelt over his shoulders, and so on. Before we started playing, Victor decided to give out his announcement.
"So, I'm sure all of you idiots wanna know what the big reveal is, well...." Victor stopped himself as he put on a stupid costume he had. "Yuki, do you want to tell them."
"Fine..." Yuki stood up from the table before giving her announcement. "I'm pregnant, and Victor is the father."
"I would hope so." Connor ruined the mood, but Sky was more than happy to karate chop the poor guy's head. "You know I'm right."
"Congratulations!" Sky excitedly hugged her redhead friend, who returned the hug with joy.
"But you two aren't married yet?" Angie pointed out, but then Yuki showed off her hand, and there we saw a single ring. "Ah, you two engaged, congratulations."
"When you guys plan your wedding, let us know so we can help." John had his arms crossed and a slight smile on his face, but then the TV that was on for background noise suddenly changed channels on its own. "What the hell?"
"We interrupt this program to bring you breaking news, WW3 has just broken out!" The news reporter's statement seemed random, and caught all of us way off guard because sure relations weren't good, but they weren't this bad. "Brothers and sisters, now is the time to fight for this great country, we will win this war because god is on our side!"
"Is this guy for real?" Tony was having none of this shit, but apparently the neighbors were, because they were cheering. "Okay, so apparently this country is actually going to war, so what do we do?"
"Nothing for now, we're the best of the best, our knowledge is far too useful for the country to just throw us in the middle of a war zone." Victor seemed confident in the tactical plan in this country, then he began the game of DnD. "So what do you guys say we get this game started?"
"Sure thing, Doctor V."
Like Victor guessed, we were never enlisted because apparently our knowledge could be beneficial to them later on. All of us managed to graduate college, but we couldn't go back to our respective countries because they thought we would sell information to the enemy. Making the best out of the situation, all of us signed up for jobs based on our talents, well, some of us anyways. Sung and Hannah ended up joining a news team, John became a gardener, Angela started working at a museum, and I became a historian. However, those of us who managed to pursue our goals had our goals focused for war. Yuki, Connor, Tony, Kim, Sky, Arthur, and Cynthia we're forced to develop weapons, some of which count as biological warfare. Declan's talents in the medical field forced him to start working on a way to create super soldiers, which is BS but Declan had no choice. Victor was the only one of us who achieved his goals of becoming a writer, while the world around us was falling to despair and blind obedience, he wrote stories that inspired hope and forced people to think.
It wasn't all bad however, nine months passed and all of us were in the hospital, worried sick about Yuki (who was in the delivery room) and Victor was the most worried out of all of us. It was random, so all of us were still in our work clothes. Most of us wore lab coats, Hannah and Sung wore suits, John was wearing casual clothes covered in dirt, Angela was wearing a black turtleneck with white pants, and I was wearing pajamas since I was asleep until recently.
"Would the father please come into the delivery room?" The nurse asked, and without a second thought, Victor rushed into the room, leaving the rest of us to ponder things.
Some time passed, and we heard Summer screaming in pain, Sky and Cynthia had to hold John back from breaking the door down because he was so worried. Now that I look at them, all of the researchers who were working on weapons or super soldiers looked thinner and paler compared to when I last saw them. We stood outside in silence before the nurse told us we could go in. When we walked in, we saw Yuki resting on a hospital bed holding a small child while Victor looked ready to have a heart attack.
"Is that the kid?" Tony asked as he all surrounded the bed to get a better look, and we noticed that the baby was a girl
"No Tony, it's a plushie of Magic Mike." Connor's sarcasm never left him, causing everyone to glare at him.
"What are you guys gonna name her?" Arthur asked, causing Victor and Yuki to look at the child.
"How about, Rin?" Victor suggested, and Yuki agreed, we all liked the name because it was short and sweet. "Say, Doc, care to get a picture of all of us? I think this is the first time we've all been together in a while."
With that request, Victor handed the nurse his phone and got close to Yuki and Rin while the rest of us got into position. We all lined up around the bed frame, trying to make sure the camera caught all of us, since it was the first time any of us had seen each other. Once the picture was taken, Victor got his phone back and sent it to us, allowing us to gaze at the last time any of us will see eachother again in the next seven years.
Seven year after Rin was born, none of us were able to see each other because the war was forcing those of us in the science field to work nonstop to develop weapons. They were able to go back home from time to time, but only to eat and rest, they never got a day off. Then the nukes were brought out, and it was going to take a week to get them ready for combat, and during that week, all of us died.
Sung and Hannah were the first ones to die. Their jobs as news reporters and their insatiable curiosity finally caught up to them in the form of a corrupt politician. The politician in question was caught as a member of a secret pedophile ring and tried paying my two friends to keep quiet, but they refused. The night before the news was to be released, the two mysteriously died in their shared apartment, as if the bullets in the back of their heads were just for show.
The entire thing was completely ignored and the politician went free, so Cynthia tried to inform the public about Sung and Hana by making a large protest march in the capitol, but was shot down by police once she spoke three sentences. Blood was scrubbed off the streets that day. John completely lost his shit and grabbed every weapon he owned and attempted to start a revolution, that also failed but he managed to destroy a couple buildings before he went...somehow.
The next was Sky, she's always had secret feelings for John, so she told the stories of her four dead friends and tried to spread the word but she was found due to "hanging herself,'' despite the fact she was found drowned in her bathtub. Arthur and Miguel demanded that the police do something about the assassin that killed Sky, but the duo were "mysteriously" sentenced to death at the station, with Arthur getting the electric chair and Ryan the guillotine.
Kim was targeted next because of her connection to these people and the police, so she took my advice and hid in her apartment with Tony to help guard her, "coincidentally" the apartment building caught fire the next day. We couldn't find their bodies, even among the large pile of corpses the fire had created. Three days later there was a funeral, despite none of us being able to find their bodies.
Worst of all was Summer's death, with her death being caused by the experiments the government wanted her to conduct on space anomalies in order to get more powerful weapons for the war. The now frail woman was lying on a hospital bed while Angie, Connor, Declan, Victor, Rin, an I stood around her, unable to do anything. Her death was slow and cruel, and her last words for "Rin to live a good life".
Connor and Declan both quit their jobs because they despised the country they were serving, due to their research being used for the war. The two were then living with Victor and Rin, before both their deaths occurred. Connor, on the one hand, got into a fight with an assassin that was after his life while Victor and Rin were out getting groceries. He lived but received fatal injuries so Declan, who was one of the best surgeons in the country, tried to treat him. However, neither of them expected the assassin to plant a miniature bomb in Connor pocket, killing both of them.
With that, leaving Angie, Rin, Victor, and I. Oddly enough, Angie didn't do anything that was that bad. She simply painted large white wings on a building she owned and stood between the wings with a halo painted above her head and stood there, where she was later shot down by a priest for "blasphemy" or something. So that leaves just us three, but it's obvious that me and Victor won't get a happy ending, well, at least Rin will get something of a chance at a happy ending.
How do we know all this? Well our friends left behind a series of notes that Yuki was writing in secret. Yuki somehow knew the nukes would come out, so she gathered all of us to begin thinking of a blueprint of a spaceship that could preserve the human body for thousands of years. It would have seemed impossible if this was anyone else, but this is us we're talking about, we're the best of the best. The rocket was officially done and inside Victor's garage, since he bought a house three years ago. I was alone in the garage because Victor had to go wake Rin up since it was three in the morning. Victor entered the garage with Rin close behind and sat the girl inside the spaceship. Of course, like any sane person would react to this situation, Rin began asking why there was a spaceship in the garage.
"Sweetie, look, we...made this rocket so you could survive the next couple hours." Victor lied, of course because he didn't want to scare his daughter, let's face it, staying in a spaceship for years would be terrifying.
"What's going on in the next few hours?" Rin questioned her father, she always was the curious little lass.
"I don't want to go into detail, but let's just say it's a really bad thing." It's three thousand freakin nukes, I'd consider it a miracle if the planet is still intact. "So I need you to go inside the rocket, Okay?"
"Okay, daddy..." Rin slowly walked up to the rocket and I opened the glass window, allowing her to sit in the chair. "But what about you and Uncle (Y/N)?"
"We'll find a way...but for now..." Victor started choking up on sobs and tears began to stream from his face, but he still kept a smile on his face to help reassure his daughter. "...please stay safe for me, my little Rin."
Victor kissed Rin's forehead and rubbed her hair, before he shut the glass window. He stood there trying to keep a smile on his face, while placing his hand on the glass. I went over to the laptop in the garage and initiated the launch and sleep sequences, I can tell the last one worked when Victor dropped the act and began to break down.
"Victor, you alright?"
"Yeah, I just hated lying straight to her face, especially since it will be the last time I ever see her again."
"I'm sure she'll understand what you had to do someday."
"I hope so, by the way, when will those nukes hit?"
"In the next five minutes or something."
"SHIT!"
Victor's depression was replaced with panic as he quickly sped up the launching process, thankfully the computer was behind a wall of concrete and the rocket was actually powered on Carbon Dioxide somehow. The only thing we DIDN'T take care of was the fact that the rocket left a big ass hole in the ceiling. Well, it didn't matter now because we saw a nuke coming our way, thankfully it missed the rocket.
"It's been a fun ride hasn't it?" Victor asked me while the two of us eyed the incoming nuke heading towards the middle of the town.
"Yeah, despite the fact only both of us were the ones who built it, it feels like all of us built it." I commented, and I could have sworn I felt the presence of everyone else around us.
"To me, it feels like we're defying the will of the gods." Victor pulled out a cigarette and began smoking it. "Hey, do you ever think this whole 'end of the world' thing was the will of the gods?"
"Don't know." I shrugged as we focused our attention onto Rin's. "If it is, then imagine the look and the gods' faces when they learn only fifteen people managed to defy their will. Humanity will continue on, one way or another."
"Well, let's not keep the devil waiting."
My eye sight hasn't returned but I quickly felt the building's walls fly by me as it fell apart from the shockwave of the nuke, that was thankfully 15 kilometers away, so we wouldn't be the worst of it. However, that didn't stop the force of the shockwave to also send me and maybe Victor flying to the other side of the garage. I was then met with a quick and rough stop, then I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. Once I regained my vision, I looked down to see that I had a rod sticking out of my stomach, but I didn't feel anything from the rod, what really pained me was seeing my last friend dead.
I had it easy compared to Victor, his corpse had his arms outstretched and both were held by rods, and one more by hit both his feet, holding the two feet together. In truth, the scene kind of reminded me of Jesus' crucifixion. It was funny in my opinion, Victor was always creating new worlds for us to get into, so now I hope he can actually create some worlds.
"Heh...if anyone here should play god...it would have been you."
Then I closed my eyes for the last time.
(A/N: Just in case you're confused, this is pre-Xemnas, Xemnas' story is an isekai story, and this is how the character was isekaied. Also, I made sure to keep this country's identity anonymous because this country can be any country if the people don't take necessary precautions and start letting their beliefs blind them to the truth. No I'm not saying to go atheist, I'm trying to say think for yourselves, think of the long term, don't let anyone manipulate you, and do research on politicians and if they're a piece of shit, do everything within your power to get them out of office.
