Chapter XI: A New Head Captain

(Your POV)
While I did send that Gerald guy to the world of Payday, this battle was still costly. The head captain Yamamoto came across this Yuha Bach guy I've heard about and somehow died to Yuha's hand. Still, the opposing side decided to leave, even though they only suffered two major losses, neither of whom are really dead right now. Gerald may as well be dead, but Bazz B is kind of just following Kiibo around like a lost kitten. We held a funeral for the captain to honor the man, who lived up to be one thousand, still ain't go shit on my father's 4,000 years, on top of that being a virgin for all of that time. Still, Captain Yamamoto was a great man I had to pay my respects to. After I bowed to the grave, a literal pillar fell from the sky, causing a piece of it to crack...

Yeah I'm gonna need a cup of vodka for this.

I walked towards the pillar to see five new individuals, one of them had puppet-like arms that held bubbles of some kind. I wasn't able to see what was inside these bubbles until I was in front of the woman, and I saw that inside the bubbles were an unconscious Byakuya, Rukia, Renji, and Ichigo. All of them smelled of blood, so I assume they were knocked unconscious due to the fighting.

"So you're this (Y/N) fellow I've heard so much about!" The bearded man eyed me up and down whilst also invading my personal space. "I have heard much about your exploits, and I must tell you 'good job'!"

(Fun fact: Doctor V is based off this one character.)

"Um, thank you?" I crossed my arms as the rest of the captains walked towards this new group of people. "Who are you guys and why are my companions in bubbles?"

"These are the guardians of the Soul King, (Y/N)." Mayuri walked to my side since we knew each other the best, but he never did tell me what this soul king was. "The soul king is my current #1 on things I would love to understand, but that would require dissecting, and that's currently illegal."

"Mayuri, you can't dissect the Soul King because that would disrupt the balance of the soul society, Hell, heaven, the god realm, Dreuamania,  and earth." The woman with the puppet arms reminded Mayuri, but what was the Dreuamania? "I can see you're curious (Y/N), so allow me to explain. Dreuamania is a realm of existence which even I have questions about."

"So it's basically the shadow realm?" I asked with my arms crossed, gaining a chuckle from Shunsui.

"Mayuri was right, you sure are an interesting one (Y/N)." Shunsui tipped his hat upwards to get a better look at me. "Though that isn't a bad description of it, anyone we send there either never returns or reports something about hamsters."

"Hamsters?" I asked, picturing a secret civilization entirely of hamsters. "Yeah...probably best if we never go there."

"I full heartedly agree, but with that out of the way, we need to ask why the guardians of the soul king are here now." Toshiro turned our attention to the five new people.

"Simple, we're here to heal your friends and train Ichigo Kurosaki." The guy with the weird hairstyle announced, and I would have guessed Captain Unohanna would take care of that, but given how she's pissed off, I'm not gonna question anything.

"Don't take too long, I kind of need him since he's a member of my kingdom and we're at war." I reminded the guards, who looked surprised. "What? He wanted to join so I let him."

"It's fine, we won't take too long, his zanpakuto is just a little...broken." The woman with pink hair informed me, and apparently it was the same with Renji, how do these two break their own zanpakuto? "We just need to repair it is all!"

"How did they break their zanpakuto?" I asked, since I've combined my [Hakuryu] with my zanpakuto and nothing bad happened. "My zanpakuto has never been broken despite having the force of the white dragon behind it?"

"That's because your zanpakuto is weird, like it just popped into existence." The guy with highlights in his hair spoke up. "By the way, we're gonna need someone to fill in the role of head captain."

"I recommend Sajin, Jushiro, Shunsui, or Unohanna." I didn't miss a beat, causing all of the captain's to look at me. "No offense Mayuri, but you'd probably turn the whole soul society into one big experiment."

"Rude, but fair."

"I am honored you think I would make a good head captain, but I must decline your suggestion." Sajin was a humble guy from what I know about him, and a pretty chill guy.

(My personal favorite bleach character, and before you ask, yes I am very mad that he's only known as the 'gateway furry. I like his loyalty.)

"I don't think the recommendation would suit me, I'm a healer not a fighter." Unohana rejected my suggestion, but her reasoning was way off, I know her past.

"We can hold a vote to see who will become head captain in a meeting later today." Toshiro was surprisingly mature, despite his appearance, say, how come I aged and he didn't? "Right now we have many injured subordinates we need to tend to."

"I'll help, just tell me who to heal and I'll do my best." I nodded towards Toshiro, since I knew some healing magic myself. "Any idea as to why our opponent left however?"

"Yuha appears to want to fight Ichigo, so he's giving us time to train him." Shinji joined the conversation, and here I thought he was only here for show. "Time we're gonna use to set up a proper defense."

"With an army like that, you're gonna need more than a proper defense." I chuckled, using my [Gates of Babylon] skill to summon a large unit of robot snipers and medics. "I can help you guys, since we're in an alliance and all."

"We'd appreciate it if you did." Rojuro thanked me as I ordered my robots to either go to a vantage point or look for survivors, depending on if they're a sniper or medic.

"We have to elect a head captain, and our friends here need to heal, so let's hurry up and get going." Kensei proceeded to walk off, followed by Kenpachi huffing.

"Couldn't agree more."

(Timeskip, brought to you by Kenpachi trying to fight (Y/N), who is running away)

I decided to bring Jack and Dark along to the meeting should things get rough, but once I got there, I only saw the captains standing on either side of a red carpet in a completely straight line. I saw Mayuri with an empty spot next to him, so I decided to stand next to him. It was pretty awkward, considering these guys were professional warriors and looked the part, matching uniforms and auras that demanded respect. As for me, I didn't even have shoes on, my hair was held up by my father's old scarf, and my blood was most certainly Red Bull. Mayuri quickly noticed the fact that I didn't deactivate [Ryokuryuu], but I didn't care, some of my body altering skills just kind of activate on their own like a twitch.

"Now that head captain Yamamoto is dead, we must elect a new head captain among us." Toshiro took the initiative to lead this meeting, which was good because none of us would do it. "King (Y/N) is also here to act as a third party due to his judgement."

"Sup." I held up two fingers in a relaxed manner, causing Jushiro to wave back awkwardly.

"Does anyone have any suggestions as to who should become the next head captain?" Toshiro asked, still trying to act all serious despite his age. "Preferably someone with leadership skills and immense strength."

"Since I'm the strongest guy here, I ought to be elected." Kenpachi volunteered himself, but that resulted in the mood of the room turning sour.  "What? You agree with my, right (Y/N)?"

"No, a nation should best remain versatile, so extreme enthusiasts are disqualified from ruling." I then pointed at Kenpachi, Mayuri, and Soifon. "You three are out."

"How am I included in that list?" Soifon asked, and I proceeded to summon my phone and show her a picture.

"Explain this Soifon x Yoruichi lemon I found under your bed?" It was a literal lemon with Yoruichi x Soifon fanfiction on it, because the author's love of puns almost rivals his love for the sword and shield.

"Nevermind..." Soifon looked away in shame, allowing the meeting to resume as usual.

"Plus, a leader must have a flexible personality." I decided to start listing off possible traits of a leader. "Byakuya and Toshiro are out. Plus the leader must be someone old and knows things about their organization, so Shinji, Rojuro, and Kenzie are out because they were missing for 100 years. That leaves the four I recommended earlier, but Sanji and Unohana don't want the job, leaving Jushiro and Shunsui."

"I expected no less from the Sea King (Y/N)." Shunsui tilts his hat downwards slightly with a smirk. "Still, now we have to put it at a vote."

"Say aye if you think Shunsui is best suited to take on the role of head captain." I demanded, and everyone said aye, even Jushiro, that has to have been a blow to Jushiro's pride. "Okay then...I guess Shunsui will be the head captain, sorry Jushiro."

"It's fine, I would have handed my position to Shunsui anyways." Jushiro brushed it off, and I now noticed how frail he was, almost as if he was sick. "By the way, (Y/N), this would have been a great time to put yourself as the leader, yet you didn't."

"Yeah because I don't want to build a big ass empire that falls apart because of some petty disagreements." I sighed and shook my head. "Plus, I'm already the entire fucken ocean, I don't need any more paperwork."

"So you placed all that pending paperwork on me, how cruel." Shunsui joked with a light laugh, trying to lighten the mood of the room.

"Shunsui, in all of the time I've known you, did you ever do any paperwork?" Soifon asked with her arms crossed, she looked mad, yet she also voted for him.

"The answer to that question is not important." Shunsui brushed off the question before turning his attention to me. "By the way (Y/N), how's ruling a kingdom going for you?"

"So far, I just have to play the waiting game." I brushed my hair out of my face so people could see my face. "I sent a message to the four great satans that might piss them off, I sent multiple robots to Jerusalem in search of Jesus' corpse, the shinobi alliance is currently waiting for my reinforcements that I sent a little while ago, and the World Government is also trying to find a weak point in my kingdom. So yeah, fun times for everyone."

"It takes a lot of courage to purposefully make hell angry, may I ask why?"  Sajin asked, forcing me to spill my plan.

"I don't have anything against hell, but I do believe they need to modernize their laws." I explained my plan. "My message consisted of a list of rights for people in their peerage and some modernization laws. The purpose of these laws is to benefit only people in the peerage who are on the better side of the moral spectrum that got recruited, like Asia Argento and Issei Hyoudou, those who deserve eternal torment (like people who write NTR) get no rights. Plus the modernization rule is to give women the right to reject arranged marriages to prevent situations like Rias and Riser, and dissolve this whole 'pure blooded devil' nonsense."

"You've been quite busy, how are you holding up?" Jushiro asked, and it was the first time anyone's asked me that. "Your father died and your mother became a hazard to everything, so you were kind of forced onto the throne without any preparation."

"Absolutely not." I had tears comically streaming down my face, the past three years were incredibly difficult, and on top of that, I was learning on the job. "I drank nothing but Red Bull for the past three years."

"That's pretty ironic coming from an ocean demigod." Kenpachi spoke dryly. "Now that the whole head captain thing is out of the way, it's best if we hurry up and set up our defenses to prepare for the next attack."

"Good idea."

(Timeskip, brought to you by (Y/N) looking at sign made of Red Bull cans that read 'you have a problem')

I was currently in the 4th Division's Base, with my hair in a ponytail like Akeno's because of it's length, trying my best to heal the injured, but they appeared to be endless. I was assigned to be getting all of the diseased patients with anything contagious because thanks to [Ouryuu], I'm immune to any disease, status ailment, or someone taking over my body. The last one is a bit situational, but considering how one of my patients is a literal zombie, it came in handy. I was constantly making potions using my [Alchemy Table] I keep in my inventory and spamming [Healing Hands] to keep people stable. Due to this being magic, most of my patients were recovering, others were still zombies. I was forced to freeze the zombies in place.

My makeshift office was a large room, roughly the size of a basketball court. The room was empty aside from the large amount of folding tables I covered in blankets and placed pillows on to act as beds. Every single bed had at least someone on it. I activated [Grand Healing] whenever I passed by a patient and had [Guardian Circle] active in the entire room. I wasn't alone however, Valentine, Kiibo, Dark, Ardyn, and Ravel were in the room with me as well. Valentine was a nurse, Kiibo had a file that gave him the capabilities of the ultimate doctor, Dark knew a healing spell or two, Ardyn knew an AOE (area of effect) healing spell that I used to keep everyone in a stable state, and Ravel also knew a couple healing spells. I made sure to heal any diseased patients using a potion I call 'Tears of Apollo', because they can heal any disease or status ailment.

"Valentine, I need you to pick up the cure from Mayuri, he said he should be done by now!" I shouted from my spot next to one of my patients' beds. "Dark, I need you to change the towels for row A! Kiibo, don't rush yourself when preforming surgery!"

"(Y/N), are you feeling alright?" Ravel asked as she began working on a patient close to me. "You look pretty stressed, which is unfitting for a King such as yourself, so maybe you should rest for a bit."

"I'm fine Ravel, no need to worry about me." I turned my attention to Ravel, but she didn't sound convinced.

"You're not even looking at me, you're looking at some kid who agreed to help us." Ravel pointed out, but then who was I looking at. "I think his name was Hanataro."

"H-Honor to m-meet you King (Y/N)." Hanataro greeted me, and I finally started seeing where Ravel was coming from.

"(Y/N)?" My patient looked at me with surprise. "I can't believe you're still alive, I thought you died three years ago."

"Wait...Izuru?" I asked to make sure I was talking to the right person. "How the fuck did you get a freaking hole in your side, and I don't mean a bullet hole, I mean this looks like a freaking cannon got you."

"Beats me, but I think a sniper got me." Izuru explained, which wasn't very helpful. "Still, where were you for the last three years? I haven't seen you since the collapse of Sacred King's."

"I was running an underwater kingdom, making myself much more successful than you are." I flexed a bit before chuckling. "Still, it's nice to see one of my old classmates."

"I have my doubts about that successful part, you look like you're ready to collapse any minute." Izuru pointed out, do I really look that tired? "When was the last time you slept?"

"Three years ago."

"It's amazing you're not dead." Izuru commented as he felt his side to notice that his injury was healed.

"Be careful from now on, you're lucky I have a spell that allows me to reverse time." I got up from my spot and began working on the patient on the next table.

"I got the cure." Valentine handed me a vial full of a purple substance, allowing me to use [Observe] on it to learn of its components, allowing me to copy it using my [Alchemy Table]. "Take some time to rest when we're done, (Y/N)."

"Yeah yeah, that's what people keep telling me."

I managed to produce ten copies of the cure, and I put the first one in a syringe. I thawed the ice around the first zombie's neck, exposing a spot I can stick the needle into. I injected ⅛ of the cure because from what I've been told, that should be more than enough. I thawed the rest of the ice around the head to see the potion's effects. It took around five minutes for me to see any results, but when I did, the person's skin went from greenish gray to its original color. I thawed the rest of the soul reaper out and watched as he acted perfectly normal. I expected no less from Mayuri, so I proceeded to return the rest of the undead soul reapers back to normal.

Some more time passed, and I managed to put all of my patients in a stable condition. I took out the green ribbon from my hair and wrapped it back around my head like my father once wore it to keep my hair out of my face. I took a seat on the bench outside of the room, where Yuebellena was apparently waiting for me. I sat down right next to her, and Yuebellena spoke up.

"You look tired (Y/N)." Yuebellena then patted her lap. "You can rest your head on my lap if you'd like."

"I should be fine for now, I'm sure I have a couple calls to make." Before I could pull out my phone, Yuebellena pulled my head onto her lap. "Huh?"

"You have bags under your eyes, and no one has seen you sleep, you just stay up all night making calls, gaining more skills, or thinking." Yuebellena began playing with my hair, which felt nice. "Sleep for now, even if it is four a couple minutes."

"Fine..."

I closed my eyes and found it surprisingly easy to fall asleep.

(Dream Begin)

Oh great this is one of those dreams involving the past.

I was playing Doom in the underwater palace after a long day of studying to help me relax, I wasn't alone, my father was also in the room with me. He didn't know much about video games, but he liked to watch me play because, according to him, I had a gleam in my eye whenever I played. The room we were in was designed like an old Japanese palace with a glass window that allowed us to look outside and sea fish swimming past us. To modernize, we ordered a couch a couple days back.

"There's quite a bit of violence in this game, isn't there?" My father asked as he swayed from side to side on the couch. "I hope you don't turn out like this guy, with all the bloodshed."

"Why not?" I was young when this scene occurred, maybe around ten years old at most. "In the world of politics and war, isn't it better to kill your opponents so they can't do the same to you?"

"Killing someone is easier than sparing someone." My father was always smart, and pointed out things I never thought of. "Besides, killing someone implies you fear what they're capable of. If you don't kill someone, especially if you're capable of doing so, then that proves you're not afraid of them. No matter what they do, they can't harm you in the slightest."

"Yet you've killed people?"

"I know I've killed people, and I regret it, but I knew I had to do it in order to protect everyone." Zeno responded to my statement, with his usual warm smile never fading. "I'm a monster to end all monsters (Y/N), you don't have to be. I don't want you to become like me."

"But you're amazing, you've protected King Hiryuu, Queen Yona, and my mother with your power." I genuinely looked up to my father, he was capable of taking on anything and winning. "In fact, you'd probably be able to run this kingdom entirely by yourself."

"Nah, I can't do any of that." My father looked out the window. "People would be freaked out that I don't age no matter how much time passes, besides, that throne is yours, not mine. I just married into the family."

"You shouldn't look down on yourself, anyone who's lived 4,000 years and still has a smile on their face is pretty amazing." I didn't look away from the tv, but I could have sworn I saw my father's expression change into one of surprise. "Is something wrong?"

"No, I think I just found out your greatest strength, but also your greatest downfall." Zeno often spoke like this, but that didn't make his statement any less confusing. "You put yourself into other people's shoes, so you can better understand where they're coming from. However, what happens when you kill someone?"

"I lose one less enemy in the world?"

"No, you lose one potential friend." Zeno corrected me, causing me to pause the game. "If you kill someone, you're killing someone else's child, someone's lover, someone's friend, and many other things. Imagine you're a proud father of someone, supporting their child's dream, and one day, your child ends up amongst many other corpses. You'd swear revenge, and then the cycle of vengeance would continue."

"What if the dead person is evil?"

"There's no such thing as true evil in this world (Y/N)." Zeno playfully flicked my forehead. "However, I don't recommend killing someone just because they're evil. If they've done horrible things, set them on the road to redemption. Just guide them, and if they die on their own, then at least they died doing something helpful."

"Redemption..."

(Dream End)

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing in my check pocket, I slowly sat back up and saw an apologetic expression on Yuebellena's face. I pulled my phone to see it was a phone call from Rias, who I've assigned to watch over the kingdom while I take care of this little foreign affair. Now that I think about it, Rias has been helping me lead the kingdom quite a bit, like a co-ruler, maybe I should set up a position or better yet a cabinet for a king's council to help make decisions. I should probably set up strict rules on who qualifies to ensure it's not just entirely made of rich guys my descendants fancy. I answered the phone and put the device up against my ear so I could hear what Rias had to say.

"Hey Rias, is everything okay over there?" I hoped no one was hurt, or worse yet, an invasion. "Please don't tell me Ursula's invading already?"

"No, it's not that." Rias' voice still sounded worried on the other side of the phone. "My older brother is here, and he would like to speak with you."

(A/N: I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and quick question, does anybody know the difference between determination and stubbornness? Like I'm sure at least one of you thinks I'm determined to finish this story, when in reality, I'm just really stubborn no matter what medium I'm on. I have no idea what the difference between the two words are, other than the fact that determination is used positively and stubbornness is used negatively. Either way, I know some of you are losing interest in this story, and don't worry, I'm trying to get to the interesting/important bits that explain everything as soon as I can.
