Bitter
Like bubblegum that's been chewed for too long.
Memories of a time,
A place,
A person;
You want to go back.
And yet
A thought nags the back of your mind,
Maybe it's for the best.
Maybe it's good they're over and done.
Maybe their role in your life
Was that time, whether short or long.
Maybe that was all that was meant to be.
So you sigh,
And you put away the old photographs.
Maybe you wipe a rogue tear off your cheek.
But there is a smile on your lips.
Life is a journey where you must keep looking
Upward and onward,
But sometimes, it's nice to go back
And simply remember.
And all that remains
Is an aftertaste of bubblegum
Bitter
Sweet
