Chapter 9
Wow, I've been slacking on this book...oops...

Ezra's P.O.V
I didn't know how many cell doors I've opened but none of them had Kanan. Every time some sort of imperial got in my way, I used my wonky new powers and continued. For the past hour, I could sense a cold darkness lurking closer and closer to this building. Each minute wasted with no sign of Kanan, was procrastination from the inevitable.
If only there was a way to find Kanan faster! I froze when when seeing two figures at the end of the hall.

Sabine's P.O.V
We somehow made it to the city and snuck in through the sewer system. The rebels and I smell like a rotten fish that died a millennia ago, but Zeb oddly still smells the same.
"Alright," Hera began, turning and facing us, "We are going to split into three teams. The first group is in charge of shutting down the power. The second, will sneak through the back and search the building using their stealth powers. Third will be the distraction in the front of the building. Any questions?"
"Can I go to the bathroom? Is there a snack afterwards? Can-" Cornelius rambled question after question, before Zeb shoved his sock into the old man's mouth.
"Any important questions about the mission?" Hera asked, pinching the bridge of her nose. The silence answered her question before splitting people into teams.
"Group one, your leader, and I'm sorry, is Cornelius. Group two, Zeb is in charge. Three, you are following me," Hera ordered. I joined Zeb's group as everyone else separated into their rightful spots.
Soon, the plan was in motion.
My group snuck in through the front. We distracted the troopers and workers but the plan could only go so smoothly for so long. I just hope Kanan and Ezra are hanging on tight until the rescue team arrives.
I blasted a few troopers and punched a woman in the nose, gushing blood. I managed to dodge a few Cancellers firing at me but was not lucky when one trooper actually hit my leg.
I dropped to the floor and couldn't move a muscle. I felt numb and powerless laying on the cold floor uselessly. Zeb ran over to me and carried me out of the line of fire. We both hid behind a knocked over desk as the battle continued.
"Are you okay, Sabine?" The warrior asked, trying to take off the Canceller without hurting me.
"Yeah, just...paralyzed," I tried to explain, working on wiggling my fingers a little. Zeb grabbed a nearby TV before chucking it at some Troopers who were stupid enough to move out from hiding.
Zeb's comm whistled, an incoming message from Hera. He grasped it in his large hand before answering the call.
"How is your group doing?" Hera asked through the device.
"Pretty well," Zeb replied, chuckling, "It's like the Empire never expected us to come at all."
"Yeah," I said, nervously thinking it over, "It seemed too easy of an ambush." Zeb and I looked at each with the same thought.
This was all a set up.
"Captain," he called, but there was no reply. My heart sunk to the floor and clenched my fists angrily.
"Hera, do you copy—darn, thing is jammed!" Zeb cursed, shaking the comm to get it to work. I huffed, smoke coming out of my nose and boiling rage ready to be released. The Empire took Kanan and Ezra, they were absolutely not going to have Hera too!
Feeling began to come back into my muscles. The effects of the Canceller were still at affect, but I shakily got to my feet. I stumbled a bit and used most of my willpower to stand tall. Lifting my arms was another chore but worth it when a blast of blue flames torched the whole other half of the room.
Some of the rebels stared at me with shock and a bit of fear to ever get on my bad side. The others happily smiled and cheered. I simply shrugged my shoulders, heavily leaning on the desk Zeb and I took cover behind. Zeb gave me a thumbs up and smirked.
I tried to return the favor but felt drained from using so much energy. I almost fell flat on my face if it weren't for Zeb catching me.
"You did good, Kid," he complimented.
"We're not out of the ball park yet," I said, "We need to go help Hera and her group."

No One's P.O.V
The sky grows darker and darker as a funnel cloud formed upon the Imperial building. Within the middle of the funnel, the sun casted down on the city as the moon grew closer to start overlapping the biggest star in the universe.
Kanan watched from the roof of the Imperial building, strapped to a pole. Two Troopers stood at each side of the rebel and keeping guard for anyone who would come to the roof.
Since the beginning of the change, not once has Kanan experienced a whole 24 hours without transforming. Let alone, a whole entire week. He didn't think he would miss his uncontrollable power so much until being captured.
The man felt powerless and desperate to escape. He could feel something was wrong and wanted to run like all of the animals. The birds were gone, all gone. He could feel his inner Infected desperately wanting to flee from this power.
The Infected may have been a virus created from some science experiment, but they were still animals. All animals had instincts when they felt danger. That danger lied within the building underneath his feet.
The floor shook for a moment, making one of the Troopers fall and accidentally shoot his gun. The bolt grazed a strap enough for Kanan to break free and grab a gun. The Troopers tried to stop the rebel but were shot instead.
Using this distraction, he immediately escaped to the stairs and went to find where the power was coming from.
