Chapter 5
Hera's P.O.V
I ran, stumbling after the corridor's floor shook. The alarms blared and red lights covered the white in the halls. Screams overlapped the almost deafening alarms before going silent.
Ahsoka and I stopped in the middle of the now dim hallway, ready to face whatever comes at us. Slowly, we keep moving quietly and turn a corner and I bumped into someone. Jumping back and blasting air at whoever it was, Ahsoka stopped me.
"Hera?"
My gaze shifted confused from the rebel leader to Sabine and Zeb, who were breathing heavily. I calmed down from the scare and placed both hands on the artist's shoulders, meeting brown orbs.
"What's going on? Where were you two?" I interrogated the teen and warrior. Instead of answering, their faces lost some color and replacing it with a fearful pale.
"What did you do?" Ahsoka asked, sternly. Zeb nervously chuckled and sheepishly scratched the back of his neck, "Funny and very long story, really..."
I narrowed my eyebrows, showing that this was no messing around matter.
"Then give me the shorter version because we don't have time!" I whispered, angrily that steam came out of my ears slightly.
"We may or may not have went to search for clues to find Kanan and Ezra...and was found by an Inquisitor," Sabine timidly spoke, nervously, fidgeting her figures. I was livid at this point and Ahsoka seemed a little irritated that they were found by something more terrible than the Infected.
"Okay," Ahsoka finally began telepathically, breathing out calmly after tensely holding it. "We need to evacuate the whole base before-"
She didn't finish her sentence a green, tentacle-like thing shot through her stomach. The three of us stared at our leader in shock as blood slowly soaked her shirt. Ahsoka looked up at us with the same flabbergasted face before being dragging down the hall.
Sabine and I were the first to react. The two of us reacted, quickly grabbing onto Ahsoka's arms and pulled back. Zeb ran over to the vine and tried to tear it with his hands. Sabine and I slid as the vine fought back, tugging aggressively to take the mute alien.
Nothing worked as I caught two figures at the corner of my eye. Down the hall was an Inquisitor with a hand held out. Next to her was a young boy holding a rebel in his grip and practically draining the life out of the rebel.
Ahsoka saw this too then smiled at us before loosing her grip. I shook my head in disbelief as she gently telepathically spoke, "Go."
The vine won and our grasp on Ahsoka slipped like butter. Zeb jumped back, hitting the wall while watching her get dragged down the hall to the evil that awaits.
Sabine ignited her hands aflame and Zeb hands tightened into fists with a low growl. The Inquisitor shot more vines up from under the floor and waving than all over, ready to attack us. I stood there frozen, making a decision in the short time we have.
I made my decision.
"Fall back!" I yelled, using my air powers and Sabine's smoke from the fire to create a smokescreen. Grabbing the two, I guided them around the corner to evacuate the rest of the survivors of the base. If that's what Ahsoka wants, she will get it.
After we were a safe distance, Sabine pulled out of my grip.
"We could have saved her and you wanted to run?!" She hissed, glaring at me.
"Sabine, this isn't the greatest time right now," I urged.
"We have saved her but you wanted to run! Now, Ahsoka is probably dead because of you!" She spat. I was taken back before scoffing and angrily, glaring coldly at the teen.
"Guys-" Zeb said, trying to get our attention.
"Excuse me!" I shouted, cutting him off. I was too focused on what the artist said that it lit a fire within me. Blinded with rage, I accusingly pointed a finger at the girl.
"I'm not the one who went out without permission! I'm not the one who was found because of selfish reasons! I'm not the one who lead the enemy right back to the rebel base! That was all you and Zeb, but I have a funny feeling that this was all your idea. Am I right, Sabine? I bet Zeb tagged along so you wouldn't get into trouble like you always do!" I yelled at the teen who shrunk away.
"No, it isn't my fault that Ahsoka risked her life to save us. This was all you," I sharply finished then huffed.
Sabine looked really hurt as the truth seemed to smack itself across her gap-stricken face. Brown eyes gleamed in sadness and guilt at the discovery which was just now found. This was all her fault. It was a stupid idea to go out without informing someone of it then lead the enemy right back to the rebels.
It was completely idiotically dumb and selfish to go out without thinking of the consequences. Now the base is destroyed and rebels are being killed.
"I...I..." she tried to say something but I scoffed.
"Save it, I thought you were better than this," I spat before continuing down the hall. The two followed behind quietly. Zeb came up beside me.
"Don't you think that you were a bit harsh on her?" He asked, gruffly. I sighed, calming down from exploding on the artist. It was stress eating at me and let it all out on Sabine. Everything seemed to be going so wrong lately with everything going on.
It was slightly my fault for not paying closer attention on my team when they needed me most. Yet, it gradually keeps growing harder and harder. Now, we are practically what's left for all we know.
"I know but that's not my biggest problem at the moment. We need to get out and hopefully find some survivors on the way to the exit. I'll deal with it later, for now, let's focus on getting out," I explained. Zeb nodded.
"Right, Captain," he agreed. I looked on ahead and prayed that Kanan and Ezra are doing better than us.
Ezra's P.O.V
I wanted to break out of these confines and punch at smirk off his slimy face. It seemed Kanan wanted to do the same thing but stopped struggling a while ago after pain started to settle.
"It seems your time as a rebel is almost over if it ever even started in the first place," the fake said, cheerfully. I was about to blow and make a remark when something felt off. I sense a new presence in my head and it sent chills down my spine. A cold presence.
"Monster lies beneath the mask..."
I perked up at the voice ringing in my head.
"...For only those who succeeded in the task..."
I've heard this voice before. This isn't the good voices...not my parents. I haven't felt them for a long time if it was them and not another trick.
"...To drink an oath of blood..."
Is it who I think it is?
"...And sewing a mouth tightly shut..."
I didn't notice the fake's smirk grew mischievously and creepily.
"...To silence a whisper of the past..."
Is that...
"...Of bringing forth the balance of both life and death..."
Erica?
"...Lighting up a new spark..."
Suddenly, my sister's voice was replaced with a new one, a sinister one.
"...Will surely fade away into the dark."
"Who are you?" I thought, confused. The fake left with a glibly expression and Kanan gave me a weird look.
"Your new friend," it replied, deviously.
"You're next."
