000. ROBBED BY A BAMBI
000. ROBBED BY A BAMBI
There were only two types of people who entered NOWHERE - the innocent ones who faced corruption once stepping foot in the establishment and everyone else.
Unless you were a doe-eyed fool or venturing for the first time out of a small town in Butt-Fuck, USA, one knew better than to come to a place like this for a drink. No one in their right mind knowingly came here for a wholesome night.
They tried running a clean establishment after running from their past lives, but they couldn't help the patrons it attracted or what they got up to once inside. After all, most customers dabbled in snorting illegal substances along with the owners themselves.
Not that any of them truly cared - this was the life the three men were destined for; built, moulded, and conditioned for.
"Are you going to join us at some point, Boss?" Colson asked, pulling a cigarette out of his carton.
Sat behind his desk with his nose deep in the accounting books, the man who was referred to as Boss by his closest friends sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Not until I figure this out."
"C'mon, you don't want to be there while we initiate the kid? I know how you love that."
Harry looked up at his friend who stood in the doorway of his office. "As tempting as getting the kid shitfaced and making a fool of him sounds, I need to get this done." His eyes shifted to the small bar table on the far wall, noticing the empty bottle. "Shit," he grumbled, rising from his seat. Seeing Colson's surprised look, he held up his hand. "Don't get your panties in a twist, Princess. Just need to get a drink."
Exiting the office, Harry made quick use of his feet, desperately needing the taste of whiskey on his tongue. Turning the corner his body collided with another, halting his plans for a quick trip.
"Oh, sorry!" An airy voice said. "Are you alright?"
His green eyes looked down at the tiny brunette in front of him. "I should be asking you that." His hand lightly gripped her chin, tilting her head to face him. "Or, more importantly, I should be asking what the fuck you think you're doing in an employee only area?"
"I-I'm sorry," she stuttered, "The guy downstairs said the bathrooms were up here."
"What guy?" Harry asked, assuming the answer. He looked down the staircase to see Dallas making an obscure gesture of thrusting his hips and smacking the air in front of him. Harry looked back at the girl, noticing the hint of fear in her eyes as she trembled in front of him. "What's your name, sweetheart?"
"B-Beth."
"Beth," he repeated, "That's a beautiful name. What table are you at?"
"Ten," she said softly.
Harry tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, craving her fearful nature. "I'll make sure someone brings you and your friends a free bottle for my friends... misinformed directions."
He sent her on her way, back down the stairs and to whatever friends she had arrived with.
Fucking Bambi, he thought to himself, rolling his eyes in annoyance.
Harry opened the supply closet and grabbed two bottles of alcohol - to save himself from having to endure the same trip later on in the night - and walked back to his office.
"Tell Dallas that I'm going to kick his ass when I get down there."
Colson took a final drag from his cigarette and tossed the butt into his glass. "What did he do this time?"
"I'll give you one guess."
"Did he send up a Bambi?"
Harry tapped the tip of his nose. "Bingo."
"Idiot." Colson rolled his eyes. "I'll talk to him. See you down there in an hour?"
"We'll see." Harry looked up. "And make sure the kid sleeps at the house. If he dies it'll be easier to clean up the mess."
Colson held little hope that this friend would be joining their big night. He wished he could stay and help, as participating in Dallas's foolishness wasn't top of his list. But he was also aware that Dallas without supervision could spell trouble for the kid. And the last thing he wanted was for Kip to literally die - they needed his brainpower for all the computer crap he did.
"Alright, kid. Your first mission of the night commences now!" Dallas swung an arm over Kip's shoulder and surveyed the crowd. "Bingo! Hot blonde in the innocent white dress at the bar! Twelve-o'clock!"
"Her?" the kid replied in shock, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "I can't take a girl like that back to my apartment!"
"Aye, don't worry about it." Dallas patted him on the back. "You're sleeping at the house tonight. You'll easily impress that hottie over there."
"Do I tell her I own the place?"
Colson raised a brow. "Do you?"
"Uh, no?"
"Then why the fuck would you say that?"
He shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know! To impress her?"
Dallas sighed. "All you gotta do is get her number. Don't worry about taking her home just yet. Alright?"
"What do I do after I get it?"
"Then you come back here for your second task. Now, go!" Dallas placed his hands on Kip's shoulders and gave him a push forward. "I don't know what it is about watching the kid make a fool of himself in front of an absolute ten that's just so..."
"Demoralising?"
"I was going to say entertaining. And, I like my word better." Dallas took a hefty swing straight from the bottle. "You gotta live a little, Colt. We're on top of the world! Un-fucking-stoppable. Did you really think this is where we would be five years ago?"
"This was nothing but a dream five years ago."
Dallas swatted his friend on the chest with the back of his hand. "Exactly!" he exclaimed. "Back then, you were doing petty crimes, Harry was still a robot, and I, well," he flexed his arm, "I was perfecting these bad boys in the gym."
"What's your point?"
"My point is that what the fuck are we doing all this for if we can't enjoy it? If you want to sit up there on Harry's lap while he figures out how to double our monthly profits for no reason, be my guest."
Colson pulled his carton of cigarettes out of his back pocket. "You're just pissed off he won't do your... What was it? Bank robbery?"
"Jewellery store," Dallas replied through gritted teeth. "It's a fucking good idea and you know it."
"Give him some time. You know he's stressed about the plan."
"Yeah, well-" Dallas became distracted by something in front of him. "Holy shit! Look!"
Colson followed his glance. "What the..." the words fell from his mouth in amazement. "Did he really-"
Dallas wiped away a fake tear. "I'm so proud of my boy!"
In what was assumed to be the most shocking thing to happen for the night - Kip had scored. In under ten fucking minutes.
"The kid will probably take an hour to take her clothes off, so," Dallas raised his glass, "I guess it's just you and me tonight."
The night continued how it was expected. Dallas got too drunk. Harry stayed in his office all night. And Colson, having lost his buzz hours ago, went to check on Kip. When he entered the house, the last thing he expected to find was Kip passed out on the bed fully dressed.
I guess he didn't score with the ten, after all, Colson thought to himself.
Following his usual routine, Colson grabbed a snack from the fridge and went to check the security system. Nothing ever happened at the house, but it didn't stop him from making sure. Kip appeared fine when he entered the home, which was surprising given his current state. The kid could barely hold his liquor after one beer; he was an obvious drunk. His blonde companion for the night avoided every camera as if she knew exactly where they were.
And then, the system froze.
Colson smacked the monitor, hoping that would be the way to fix it. But there was nothing on the tapes after the two love birds had walked through the door.
A pit in Colson's stomach began to grow. Something was up.
He ran around the house, checking every spot they had. Everything was there and accounted for. He let out a breath of relief.
That was until he passed by the one spot that hadn't been touched by any of them in years.
Taking out his phone, he dialled a number and pressed the device to his ear.
"The fuck do you want from me at this hour?" the voice on the other end grumbled.
"Boss, we've got a problem," Colson said, looking directly at the empty safe. "We got robbed by a fucking Bambi."
