Chapter 17
I woke up peacefully this morning, and I glanced at the clock, which read 2:34 PM.....wait 2:34 PM?! How did I sleep in so late?! I got up, grabbed my jacket, and headed out the door to go walk around for a bit. I decided to go down to the work room to see how Jasper's doing. I then realized that she actually tried killing me last night, so I was starting question if it was a good idea or not to be in her presence right now.
As I approached the door to the work room, I started to hear Jasper yelling, and Lapis yelling back as well. I then heard screaming from - I have no idea who. But this began to feel all too familiar - As I am walking up to my front door, I could hear distant screaming coming from inside the house - That's when I realized that was my mom screaming. Oh my god....LAPIS! I burst through the door as fast as I could and quickly examined the scene before me.
A bunch of gang members like Rubies, other Jaspers, and Amethysts were scattered across the floor unconscious with blood dripping from random parts of their bodies. I then looked over to the left and saw Jasper pinning Lapis's arms over her head against the wall with one hand. In Jasper's other hand she held a knife to Lapis's neck!
"Just forgive me already Lapis!! Stop being the bitch you always have been since we've met!!!" Jasper growled in the bluenette's face. I also noticed that Jasper's wrists each had a handcuff on them, but the chain between them was broken apart. The rest of the gang members just watched in horror.
Lapis then headbutted Jasper and the buff girl jerked back in pain for a moment. The gang leader then takes this opportunity to sucker punch Jasper across the face and dash away. Jasper then regains her balance, and begins to chase Lapis with the knife. I charged Jasper with all of my might and threw my weight into her body, tackling her to the ground.
I straddled her and tried holding her wrists down, but I failed once Jasper thrusted her hips upward, throwing me off. I fell onto my bottom, and got right back up again once I spotted her trying to grab Lapis again. "Don't you lay a finger on her, Jasper!" I shout, and I tackled her from behind this time. She was running around, trying to get me off of her back, but I held on for dear life.
Unfortunately, Jasper purposely backed up into a wall as hard as she could, slamming me into it. It knocked the wind out of me, and I slowly slid off of her. Jasper stared down at me for a moment, and I stared back. Her eyes were still bright green, and she was breathing heavily still. She gripped the knife in her beefy hand tighter, and tears begin to roll down her cheeks.
"What is wrong with you, Jasper?! Please tell me! We could help you!!!" I hollered, as I begin to feel tears filling my eyes myself. However, Jasper's expression didn't soften, and she roared as loud as she probably could have, and she raised her knife up.
I crouched into a ball and shut my eyes tightly. What did I do to deserve this? An ear-piercing gunshot echoed the room, and it startled the crap out of me. I opened my eyes and uncoiled myself from the corner, and there laid Jasper.....dead. There stood Lapis above Jasper's body, pistol in hand.
The whole room is quiet, and the sudden realization kicks in....Oh my god...Jasper's dead....I thought I was gonna cry, but for some reason, it wasn't sadness I was feeling - it was more so relief. Is that bad? Apparently though, Lapis had different feelings in mind. Tears rolled down her cheeks and she had the most heartbreaking expression on her face I'd ever seen.
She just stared at Jasper's limp body, and her hand lost its grip, causing the gun to hit the ground with a loud clack! She fell to her knees, and she covered her face with her hands, sobbing. I immediately ran to her side, kneeling before her.
She continued to cry, and she leaned into me, and I wrapped my arms around her. I patted her back and just whispered things like It's okay, and Everything will be alright. Three Rubies approached and they dragged Jasper's limp body away once again. We stayed on the floor for about 30 minutes just processing what had just happened.
She then suddenly stopped and just looked at me with sad eyes. I stared back with a hopeful expression thinking maybe she might feel better now. She finally stood up, and brushed herself off, clearing her throat. "I'm, uh, I'm gonna go help the Rubies and Pearls take care of the other members..." she muttered, scratching the back of her neck.
"O-okay...let me know if you need anything..." I say, and with that, she hugs me, and slowly walks away, looking down the whole time. "Lapis, wait..." I say, and she turns around. "I...I love you..." I mutter, trying my hardest to not give her a cheesy-ass smile. Lapis pauses for a moment, then she smiles at me with that gorgeous smile that I hardly get to see.
"Love you too, Peridot...."
