Gotcha Birdie
Longest chapter so far. 1739 words. Enjoy. Btw it's the Joker from Batman: The Animated Series
Not long after, Jason heard a man yell faintly before being cut short. Jason frowned as he strained his ears to listen for gunshots. He heard a woman officer scream before hearing the sound of a muffled gunshot silence her.
Soon all seven guards were down, leaving Gordon and Jason alone. The slow clicking of shoes was muffled by the carpet that lined the halls. It was getting closer, before stopping in front of the door. From his vantage point, Jason could see the shadow of a person standing on the other side. Jason felt his adrenaline start to spike with anticipation.
Suddenly a loud, singular knock resounded from the door. Jason's hand went for his utility belt, slowly drawing out two batarangs as two quick knocks came from the door. Jason subconsciously held his breath with suspense, before realizing what he was doing. He let out a quiet, shaky breath.
'I got this. It's just Gotham's most dangerous psychopath and an unknown amount of goons. I can hold them off. As long as Batman can get here before they reach the Commish, we're fine,' Jason told himself, 'I got this.'
The door slammed against its hinges as someone on the outside starting kicking it hard. The shuddering door took five more powerful kicks before giving up. It flew into the room, nearly hitting Jason's hiding spot.
Immediately, 15 goons filed into the room. Jason caught a glimpse of several more standing by as the man who orchestrated the event walked in like he owned the place.
Joker.
He was dressed in his usual purple and orange suit, his albino hands swinging casually at his side. He stopped short however, realizing the lack of light and life in the room. His blood red smile turned upside down as he grabbed the nearest henchman by the collar.
"Are you sure this is the Commissioner's house? I'd hate for you to be wrong," Joker asked dangerously. The goon gulped as he talked to his boss.
"Y-y-yes, Mr. Joker. Our men in Gordon's unit said this was his house," the goon stuttered. Jason silently moved out of the way of sweeping goons as he listened with interest.
"Then why is nobody here?!" Joker threw his hands in the air, dropping the goon. He held up a finger, pointing it to the goon closest to Jason's newest hiding spot.
"I give you all one simple task and you mess it up!"
"B-but Mr. Joker, the lights were on! I swear!" Said the cowering goon that Joker initially grabbed. Joker stooped, grabbed the goon by his collar, and lifted him up so that they were face to face.
"Is that so?" The goon nodded his head vigorously, " Well then."
Joker smiled and let go of his hold on the frightened goon. The goon scrambled off the floor as quickly as he could. Joker turned his back to the goon as the poor guy turned to his friends in turn. He breathed a sigh of relief, missing the Joker turning back around with a gun in hand.
He shot the goon in the head, the body falling on the couch Gordon previously occupied. Pretending to blow the smoke from the barrel, Joker address the remaining goons while stuffing the gun back in his waistband,
"Search the place! Find me the Commissioner!" He yelled, sending all the goons scrambling. Joker, shoving the corpse off the couch, making himself comfortable as his men searched the apartment.
Jason stalked around the shadows, working quickly to take out as many goons as he could before they figure out Gordon's location.
"Hey Boss!" Jason cursed his luck as a goon called out. Joker's head popped up from the couch to look at the calling goon.
"What? It better be something good," Joker yelled back. The goon looked nervous before reporting his findings.
"Bathroom door's locked. Don't know who the hell locks their bathroom when no one's home."
"Oh really?" Joker asked, interested. He sprung himself off the couch and onto the hardwood floor. Joker leisurely strutted towards the bathroom, as though he had all the time in the world.
Jason started working faster to take the goons out.
"Boss! Chuckie's out cold!"
"So's Zoomer!"
Goons started to call out as the stumbled over their unconscious friends. Again Jason cursed his luck as he took out another goon.
"So Batsy's here, eh boys? C'mon out Bats!" Joker called out, "Don't want me to get to dear old Gordie now, would ya?"
Jason dropped down on top of Joker, who had completed his lazy journey to the bathroom door. Jason quickly got into a fighting stance.
"Sorry boys, no Bats tonight. Only Birds," Jason said before launching himself at the closest goons.
"C'mon. I thought you work for Joker, not some third rate pimp," he taunted the older men as he kicked one of them in the face, breaking his nose.
"This is too easy," the broken nosed goon glared harshly at Jason as he laughed.
"Say that again, Brat Wonder!" He yelled as he charged forward, swinging his fists. Jason ducked, grabbing the goon's arm, and used his momentum to basically throw him into three other goons.
Jason quickly started using up all his gadgets as he continued to fight off the goons.
'Why does it seem that two more takes one fallen goon's place?' he asked himself as he dodged another punch and kicked another where the sun doesn't shine. A knife-wielding goon swiped at him, causing Jason to flip over the opposite goon. As he flipped over, Jason kicked the goon onto knife-wielder, causing them both to fall. Jason immediately broke another man's arm the moment he landed.
"Because there was at least ten more out in the hall," Jason's brain helpfully supplied him.
"Oh yeah," he said quietly to himself. A goon sneaked behind him and grabbed him in a crushing hug.
"Dam it!" Jason called out. He fumbled with his utility belt for a bit before grabbing what he wanted. Jason took a deep breath before crushing a pellet in the goon's face.
The goon swayed on his feet, moaning, before releasing Jason. Jason quickly did a handspring, punching the next goon, as the hugging goon felt the knockout gas take affect.
Two burly goons rushed Jason together. Jason attempted to jump over them, but they proved to be smarter than they looked. The one on the left grabbed Jason's foot as he was vaulting over, throwing him against the wall. Jason cried out in pain before the goon on the right pulled him back out by his cape.
Jason pretended to be knocked out as the goon lifted Jason to his eye level. The goon shook him a bit before looking to Left goon and shrugging. Jason then punched the goon holding him in the jaw. A snap filled the room as the goon let go, choosing instead to take a nap on the floor right there.
The remaining muscled goon growled before swiping at Jason with a meaty hand. Jason jumped over the hand and back towards a wall. Getting an idea, he called out to the turning goon,
"Hey Goonie! Your momma's so fat that when she fell no one was laughing! Except the Earth was cracking up!" The goon growled again as he ran full speed towards Jason. Jason twisted out of the way just in time as the goon slammed head first in the wall.
Scanning the apartment, he saw that all the goons were groaning or not moving, except for the steady rising of the chests.
"And you guys work for criminal royalty? I'm disappointed," Jason said as he crossed his arms. Despite all the goons being downed, he felt very uneasy, like he was missing something.
He shrugged it off and went over to the somehow still standing bathroom door. He knocked the pattern on the door, stepping back to allow the Commissioner easy access out of the bathroom.
Gordon cautiously opened the door, but upon seeing Jason and the goons unconscious, he fully opened it.
"Hmm. I'm impressed" he praised Jason. Jason saluted.
"All in a night's work, CG," Jason watched Gordon's face twist into horror.
"Robin! Behind you!" He warned. Jason cried out, falling forward, as he felt something push his lower back violently.
"Robin!" Gordon gasped. Jason's entire body went numb with shock, except for everything below his waist. He struggled to move on his back, to get up, to do something to protect Gordon as Joker's goons dragged him out of the bathroom, but his legs wouldn't respond.
"Well, well. Looks like a little birdy got his wings clipped. Wouldn't you agree boys?" Jason heard Joker's mocking voice above him. Supporting himself with his arms, Jason vision was filled with the grim white, red eyed Joker. The Joker crouched down and pulled Jason up by his ebony hair. Jason hissed in pain as he grabbed the offending hand.
"Poor little birdy. Too bad Batsy isn't here to save you," Joker said in mock sympathy. Jason got angry at Joker.
"I don't need Batman to kick your sorry a$$!" He said definitely, using his right hand to punch Joker's face. The satisfying noise of Joker's nose breaking filled Jason's ears.
Growling, Joker threw Jason on the floor, not caring about his own nose. Jason heard Joker clap twice and something metallic fly through the air before Joker caught it. He felt Joker roughly grab his wrists and pulled them behind his back. The metal object ("handcuffs," his mind helpfully informed him) chained Jason's hands together.
"Take Gordie to my favorite place," Jason twisted his head back towards Joker and the goons. Joker was ordering his goons with a nasally voice, "and do take care. I would hate for anything to happen should Gordie get one scratch on him before I get there."
Jason watched, dazed, as the goons shuffle out, Gordon being dragged with them.
'Move, dam it!' he mentally screamed at his legs. But it was as if they took a vacation at the worst possible moment.
"Now, Boy Blunder. I have no doubt the shifts will be changing soon, so," he paused to hit a shiny red crowbar in the palm of his hand, "I'll make sure this goes as quick and painful as possible."
Jason braced himself as he felt his arm snap in two, biting back a scream of pain.
Poor Jay. Dickie comes in next. We'll get to know how that goes down. See y'all next time! 😉
