Lullaby (Short Fic) Part 1.

OC: Samantha Scarlet.

Sam is my OC from my book Scarlet Fever, she is Will Scarlets younger sister. If you've read that book, the situation with her father is the same in this one.

Trigger Warning: This short fic has some very dark themes including: mentions of alcoholism,  abuse, sexual abuse, Self harm/mutilation, and attempted suicide.
If this is something that you feel you can not handle, please don't read this short fic.

and PLEASE I know I am a complete stranger to you all but if you are ever thinking of hurting yourself feel free to reach out to me in my inbox. I am open to talk about anything with ANYONE for however long you need to talk. <3 Sometimes just talking to someone actually helps.

This short fic has multiple parts that I've already written. but I'm kind of on the fence about it because its so dark. I want to know if people actually want to read it so for right now, I am only publishing the first part. IF you want to read it, please let me know in the comments!

Also don't hate on me for the Nickelback song in the header. I don't know why its so popular to hate them. This song is actually really beautiful.

"Why do you have to go?" Sam asked her older brother Will as he was packing a duffel bag.
"It will only be for a few weeks Sammi and when I get back, you and I are getting out of here. That's a promise. I just need you to hold out for 3 weeks. Maybe see if you can stay with Gina?" He asked.
"You know Dad isn't going to let me stay with Gina for the next three weeks.." Sam scoffed. "Why can't I just come with you?"
"Because you are still a minor for another 3 months and I don't have a safe place for you to sleep Sammi, I wish I could bring you with me and its killing me that I have to leave you here but once this job is done, I'll have enough to get us a place of our own. Away from him. Just do your best to stay out of his way. I have a friend coming by later to check up on you. You know the rules."
"No parties, no Keith, and lock the door when it gets dark." Sam rolled her eyes.
"Especially no Keith. I don't like him Sam." Will said.
"He's not fond of you either." Sam smiled.
"I mean it Sam. No Keith."

"So I can have a party, but just not invite Keith?" Sam asked with a sly smile.
"Samantha.." Will sighed and gave her a look. "I hate having to be the bad guy you know that, Don't make me take your phone for another week."
"Someone has to be an adult around here.." Sam mumbled. "I was kidding Will. No parties, no Keith." She wrapped her arms around her brother and hugged him tightly willing herself not to cry, She hated it when he left, He was 6 years older than her, and he'd basically raised her since they were kids.
Will kissed the top of her head and sighed heavily. He hated leaving her, as much as she hated him leaving but it was for the best. After this job he could get her out of this house, away from their drunk of a father and she would be safe, for good.
"Text me when you get there?" Sam asked.
"As always. There's money on top of the fridge to order some food for tonight, my friend is bringing some groceries by for you for the rest of the time I'm gone." Will smiled and zipped his duffel bag putting it over his shoulder.
Sam walked to the door with him.
"Three weeks?" She asked.
"Three weeks." Will nodded, promising her as he opened the door. Sam followed him outside and stood on the porch watching him get in the car, and pull out of the driveway, she wiped her eyes with the sleeves of her black sweater before walking back inside.

Sam stood in the kitchen washing dishes as her father walked in the house tossing his coat over a chair.
Sam could smell the beer on him, and he was in the living room. She heard him bump into something and cringed.
"Sam!" He yelled. Sam turned off the water to the sink and walked into the living room pointing at her backpack that was laying on the floor.
"What the fuck is this?" He demanded.
"Its..my backpack." Sam said and then instantly regretted it as he father grabbed a fist full of her brown locks pulling her to him.
"Don't get smart with me, whats it doing in the way?" He spat.
"I'm sorry!" Sam squeaked "I'll pick it up."
"Do it then." He growled and threw her down to the floor. Sam cringed as her knees hit the tiled floor. She picked up her back pack and stood up, hanging it on a hook on the wall.

"What's for dinner?" Her father asked as he walked into the kitchen.
"Will left money up on the fridge for pizza.." Sam said.
"Where is he?"
"He took a Job in Boston.. He'll be gone for three weeks.." Sam shrugged.
"What the fuck am I supposed to do with you for 3 weeks?" He barked.
"I could stay at Gi-"
"You aren't going anywhere! You can go to school if you walk."
"Dad the school is 5 miles from here!" Sam whined.
"Then I guess you don't need to go!" He snapped. "Stop whining. Finish the dishes."
Sam turned away from him to go to the sink and was hit in the back of the head.
"Don't roll your eyes at me!"
"I didn't!" Sam grumbled rubbing the back of her head as she walked to the sink.

It was another hour later, Sam was finishing up the dishes when she felt her father come up behind her. He'd been drinking even more.
"I'm sorry I hit you Sammi." He said putting his hands on her shoulders, rubbing them up and down.
"Its fine.." Sam said.
"You've done enough." Her father said and spun her around pushing a strand of her hair out of her face. Sam flinched.
"What are you flinching for? I'm not gonna hurt you baby girl.." He frowned running his hands down her sides.
Sam was trying to keep calm she didn't want to provoke anything.
"You're really beautiful you know?" He smiled at her as his hands played with the waistband on her black jeans.
"I bet you have loads of boys after you." Sam shook her head.
"No.. I d..don't." She stammered.
"Good, still daddy's little girl then." He grinned and Sam thought she would vomit right then.
"D..Dad i'm really not hungry if you want to take the money Will left, and go see if your pals want to go to the bar.." She said.
Truthfully she was starving but she just wanted to get him the hell away from her, and with any luck he'd get so sloshed he'd die in a ditch somewhere. It was horrible to think that about her own father but she honestly didn't care She felt no love for this man.
"You're so good to me love." He smiled and gave her thigh a squeeze. "I'll see you later." He said and stumbled to the fridge grabbing the money and his keys.
"Drive safe." Sam said hoping he was drunk enough not to notice the sarcasm. He was. He just smiled and waved and went out the door.

Sams phone buzzed on the counter and she looked down.

Will:
Almost there, but wanted to remind you to finish your math. Everything good?

Sam sighed if she told him the truth he'd come rushing back which wouldn't be horrible.. But wouldn't be great either. He'd been waiting for this job for weeks.

Sam:
Everything's fine. Starting my math homework now...

Will:
Good. Love you.

Sam:
Love you too.

There was a sudden knock at the door, maybe that was Will's friend he mentioned coming over. Sam walked to the door and opened it.
"Well, hello there." Her boyfriend Keith grinned and leaned in the doorway.

"Hey." Sam smiled.
"Can I come in?" He asked. "I just saw your dad leave."
Sam looked at the clock
"Yeah, but you can't stay long Will has a friend coming to check on me and I don't know when he'll be here." Sam said and let him in.

The two of them sat on the couch, Sam was working on her math homework, like Will told her to do, every now and then glancing up at the movie she and Keith were watching.
Keith put his hand on her thigh squeezing it lightly. Sam wanted no part of that after her encounter with her father earlier. She shifted her leg away from his hand.
Keith leaned in and placed kisses on her neck. She tried to scoot away from him but he pulled her legs that were tucked underneath her and somehow she ended up pinned underneath him while he kissed and bit at her neck
"Keith stop." She said and went to push him off but he grabbed her wrists.
"Come on love. What better chance are we gonna get?" He whispered
"I don't want to. Please stop." Sam said feeling tears sting her eyes as he let go of her wrists and snaked his hands up her sweater grabbing her breasts.
"Keith get off of me!" She pleaded with him.
"I just want you so much Sammi.." He muttered "Come on love.. Just let it happen. I'm not gonna hurt you baby girl.."
"No!" Sam screeched and used whatever force she had to push him off of her.
"Christ! What is wrong with you?!" Keith demanded and then shook his head. "I'm done with you." He sneered.
"What? Because I wont have sex with you?!" Sam asked.
"Because you act like a bloody little psychopath every time I try!" Keith spat. "Good luck trying to find someone to put up with that. No one's going to want you. What good are you?"

Sam looked over Keith's shoulder as a dark haired man was walking in the house with his hand full of grocery bags. The man looked back and forth between Keith, and Sam who looked like she was moments away from breaking down.
"Who the hell are you?" Keith asked.
"I'm Killian, and you are leaving."
"Oh. I am?" Keith scoffed. Killian's jaw twitched and he set the bags down on the floor and rolled up his sleeves.
"I heard you yelling at the lass from the walkway, so you have 5 seconds to be out the door, before I throw you out it."
"Whatever." Keith said and rolled his eyes and glared at Sam. "I'm going to Lacey's, at least she'll be better company." He said and walked out the door. Killian noticed how Sam flinched as the door slammed.

"I'm assuming that was Keith?" Killian asked.
"Don't tell Will.. please." Sam said softly.
"I won't, as long as he didn't hurt you.." Killian said looking at the little bruises on her neck. Sam shrugged her shoulders
"I'm fine." She mumbled.
"I'm Killian by the way, I worked with Will for a bit down at the docks, he asked me to come by and check on you, make sure you were eating." Killian said and gestured to the groceries.
"Thank you." Sam said and looked up at him, finally. "I'm really okay here. Thank you for the groceries, but I want to take a bath, so you don't have to stay." Sam said but it was almost as if she was rehearsing lines to him. Her brown eyes, were full of agony although she said she was fine.
"Of course." Killian said and she turned away from him and walked to the bathroom.

Something about the way she was acting didn't set well with him at all so he stayed and began putting up the groceries in the cupboards and the fridge. He remembered Will said he had left money for her to get dinner tonight, but the money was gone, and there was no take out boxes of any kind, or a smell of food so she likely hadn't eaten. He set a few things out to make her something to eat once he was done putting things away.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Sam turned the water on to the tub and paced back and forth in the bathroom with her head in her hands.
Painful flashes of her father's hands touching her hit her like a ton of bricks and she started sobbing silently
and then Keith..grabbing her breasts like he owned her, not giving her any choice in the matter.. And his words.
No one will want you. What good are you?
What good was she if she couldn't do the one thing men seemed to want her for? The only thing she seemed good for was being used and used until she was tossed aside like a broken doll. She reached into the drawer in the bathroom for her razor blades and pushed up her sleeves looking at all the scars that she hid from everyone. She looked at the razor blade and the scars and threw the razor blade in the sink. The scars were only proof that the temporary pain, that she felt was only a distraction from everything going on.
It was only a band-aid. She needed a permanent fix. This was never going to end she would just keep getting hurt, until she put a stop to it. She looked over at the tub that was filling fast and walked over to it, stepping in slowly without even taking off her clothes. She settled herself down in the water crying softly as she inched further..and further down into the water until she was fully submerged and everything was quiet.

---------------------------------------------------------

Killian thought it odd, that the water was still running when he finished putting up the groceries.
"Sam? Everything okay in there?" He asked as he walked to the door, his shoes splashed in a small puddle forming from under the bathroom door.
He knocked loudly on the door.
"Sam!" He yelled but there was no answer. "Sam! I'm coming in!" He shouted and twisted the knob but it was locked. He backed up a few steps and kicked the door a couple times, breaking it away from the hinges. His shoes splashed in the floor as he stepped in and saw the water flowing over the tub and Sam completely submerged.
"Shit!" He exclaimed and hurried over to the bathtub he reached in and grabbed her arms pulling her out of the water, soaking his clothes in the process.
Sam choked and spat up water down the back of his shirt gasping for air. Killian reached behind him and shut the water off quickly before he held onto Sam as she twisted and pulled trying to get away from him.

Stop!" He said firmly catching her off guard for a second. She stared at him for a couple seconds before screaming and beginning to hit him with the sides of her fists.
"Why?!" She demanded.
"Why?! Why did I just stop you from killing yourself??" Killian asked holding her wrists now to get her to stop hitting him.
"It wasn't your place!" Sam argued. "What the hell do you care anyways?! You don't even know me!"
"You're right. It wasn't my place, and I don't know you but I do know Will and I know how much you mean to him do you have any idea what it would do to him if I hadn't gotten to you in time and I had to make that bloody phone call?!" Killian shouted.
"He'd have one less thing to worry about.." Sam muttered.
"He told me you were the reason he gets up, and he keeps pushing because he loves you Sam he cares about you so fucking much it would kill him if you weren't here!"
Sam just looked away. Killian sighed, as angry as he was, it wasn't helping the situation.
"Alright, lets get you out of here and into something dry." He said and stood up helping her out of the tub.
Sam looked around the soaked floor and started laying towels out, almost frantically, odd behavior for someone who just tried to end their life.
"I'll clean up the mess. You find some dry clothes." Killian said shooing her out of the bathroom.

Sam quietly walked into her room and shut the door. She peeled off her soaked clothes and threw them in an empty hamper she found an unused towel folded up on her bed and dried herself off with it before wrapping her sopping hair in it and going to her dresser to find clothes.

Killian sighed and drained the bathtub and started working on drying the floor. He picked up the towels, and put them in a hamper before walking out of the bathroom and looking around, noticing now, just what kind of situation Sam was living in. There were beer bottles, and cans all over the living room in various spots. Will had mentioned their father was a drunk, but he didn't realize it was this bad. He grabbed a box fan out of a window and plugged it in pointing at the bathroom to help dry the floor further as Sam walked out of her room. She looked at Killian and turned around walking back down the hallway, she clearly was a girl of very few words.

It took her a few minutes before she came back up the hall with clothes in her arms.
"You look about the same size as Will." She shrugged and handed him the clothes. "His room is the second door on the right if you wanna change." She said.
"Thank you." Killian said and walked down the hallway to go and change.

Once he dressed himself he came back to the living room with his wet clothes.
"Where's the washer? I'll throw the towels and your clothes in too." Killian offered.
"Its broken.." Sam said. "Dad hasn't fixed it yet.." She shrugged.
"And where is he?" Killian asked.
"He took the money Will left me and went out."

"Alright, I'm calling your brother." Killian said in disbelief that her father was that low of a person.
"No. Don't call Will." Sam pleaded. "He'll come home."
"And he should. You are in no condition to be here on your own." Killian said.
"He's waited for this job for so long. Please...don't." Sam begged him now. "I don't want him to know."
"How am I supposed to not tell him about this Sam?" Killian asked.
"I'll tell him. When he gets home.." Sam said.
"There is no way I am leaving you here by yourself." Killian said shaking his head and then he thought for a moment. "In fact, I'm not leaving you here at all. Pack a bag, you're staying with me."
