Chapter Twenty – Seven ~ Turmoil
“Blaise, come here for a second,” Neville called his partner over from the kitchen. “I need to talk to you.”
Blaise looked over from his seat on the couch and when he noticed Neville’s strained expression, he quickly got to his feet and walked over. His eyebrows were furrowed and his dark eyes were watching him. Neville sighed as he ran his fingers through his hair and leaned against the counter, stressing. Blaise stopped in front of him and grabbed him around the waist, pull him into an embrace.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
“I’m… well, I reckon I’m nervous.” Neville mumbled his eyes downcast.
“I reckon you have reason to be.” Blaise sighed.
“It’s just…I haven’t been involved in something like this in Merlin only knows how long. I got out of this line of work ages ago. I’m just a professor now; Herbology isn’t going to solve any of these problems.” He frowned.
Blaise frowned as well. “You don’t suppose there is some kind of plant to end this?”
Neville smacked his arm. “I’m being serious, Blaise!”
Blaise chuckled as he hugged Neville tightly, “I know, I know. Listen, yes, this isn’t our kind of thing but Ginny, right now, she doesn’t need another hit – wizard or Auror. She has enough of that already. I bet she doesn’t need any of that. Honestly, between her and Draco, they could take over the world. Not to mention, look at their child. Amélie, with both of them in her, could take over the world on her own.” The black man snorted, “No, darling, what Ginny needs right now is her best mate. We both know that, even though she isn’t showing it, she’s scared. That hit – witch, crazy, dangerous, redheaded she-devil is all show. Inside there’s a really big soft – bloody hell!” Blaise cursed as something painfully hit the back of his head.
He turned back, Neville still in his arms, to see Ginny standing behind him, her arms crossed and a menacing expression on her face.
“What the hell was that for, you –” Blaise hissed then cursed again as another hand came out of nowhere and smacked him in the back of head. “For the love of Merlin, stop hitting me!”
“Don’t talk to me like that.” Ginny said at the same time as Draco hissed, “Don’t talk to her like that.”
“Well, don’t gang up on me!” Blaise glared.
Neville chuckled.
“Plus,” Blaise released Neville to stand in front of the couple, “you shouldn’t eavesdrop. It’s rude.”
“Did he just say that?” A voice asked from the living room. Blaise recognized it as Amélie and couldn’t help but smirk at the little redhead.
“I wasn’t eavesdropping. I was getting myself a Butterbeer. You shouldn’t talk about people behind their backs, Blaise Zabini.” Ginny glared.
“I was comforting my partner, you mad witch!” Blaise turned around and pouted.
Neville smiled and then leaned over and gently brushed his lips against Blaise’s. “Thank you. I really needed that.”
“Seriously, Neville, I just need you to be you.” Ginny whispered behind them.
“Who wasn’t eavesdropping, again?” Blaise wondered out loud.
Ginny ignored him and smiled at Neville. The man smiled back and knew in his heart that he wouldn’t allow anything more to happen to his best friend. A lot of people needed her, not just him.

“You’ll never believe who I saw when we were coming back from the diner.” Colm immediately said as the door shut behind him and Pansy as they entered the apartment.
The only ones who were in the apartment at the moment were Ginny, Draco, Amélie, Thomas and Blaise. Ginny, Draco and Blaise were sitting on the couches, sipping Butterbeer and watching muggle television. Blaise was complaining about not understanding the damn soap operas. Thomas and Amélie were in her bedroom watching a movie; ever few minutes Draco would look over and ever ten minutes, he would get up to go to the room to see what the young couple was doing. Draco had been getting up when Ginny grabbed his arm and shook her head with a small smile on her lips. He frowned as he sat back down.
Neville had gone with George and Luna to Hogwarts to check on the twins, Fred and Analiese, as well, as the school substitute that was currently taking over Neville’s position while he was away. Neville hadn’t wanted to go but Blaise knew the man needed to get away for a while and so had convinced him to go with George and Luna.
Jeff and Kingsley had gone to the office to see if they could get any information pertaining to the case. They had left a few hours ago and hadn’t sent word. Ginny had assumed that they hadn’t found anything.
“That git was walking outside the diner like he didn’t have a blimey care in the entire goddamn world! It was unbelievable!” Pansy hissed as she stormed into the living room and threw herself onto the couch.
“What’s wrong?” Amélie asked as she came out of her bedroom, Thomas behind her. They stood behind the couch that Ginny and Draco were sitting on.
“Well, Colm and I were definitely getting it on in the din –” Pansy was saying when Ginny cleared her throat and shot a look at her.
Colm flushed and ducked his head.
“We don’t need to know that, Pansy.” Draco rolled his eyes. “What we want to know is who you saw. So, get to the point.”
Pansy glared at him before turning to look at Colm who was still blushing. She winked playfully at him then sighed as she leaned back against the sofa. “Oh, alright, you’re such a stick in the mud. I’d hoped the weasel would help your temper. Even though I’m not one to admit it, I was wrong.” She shrugged sadly then ducked as a pillow came flying towards her head.
“Get to the point. Don’t make me tell you again.” Draco hissed as his eyes narrowed into slits.
“Lucius,” Pansy replied to which everyone in the room sitting jumped to their feet.
“What!” They all exclaimed simultaneously.
Pansy watched them with a smirk on her lips. “Wow, you all were so in sync!”
“This is no laughing matter, you twit!” Draco glared.
“This is it! Let’s go kill the bastard!” Amélie said as she made her way towards the door, a few paintings and items around the room trembling as she passed them.
Ginny sighed. Amélie was a responsible adult now but she still didn’t have control of her gift and if the girl got anywhere near Lucius Malfoy or Cho Chang, well, the result would be disastrous in sending her emotion, ergo her gift, out of control.
As she had been thinking, the people in the apartment had worked themselves into a frenzy to go hunt down Lucius Malfoy and get this entire situation settled. Even though Ginny wanted that more than anything, she couldn’t ignore the fact that for some reason, this felt wrong. It felt too easy. And one thing she learned early on her career was that if it looked like trap, it probably was. She sighed again as the others continued to argue.
“If we go out and kill Lucius, how will we get Chang?” Blaise rolled his eyes as he asked Draco and Amélie.
“Who cares? We kill Lucius and we find Chang after.” Draco crossed his arms.
“Problem solved, I think.” Amélie nodded towards her father.
“Problem not solved!” Colm jumped in. “It would be better if we found him and followed him. Certainly he’ll show us where Chang is and then we can kill them both.”
“Why hadn’t I thought about that? Well, I’ll tell you why… because it’s absurd!” Draco snorted. “Lucius may be mad but the man is certainly not stupid enough to do something like that.”
“Well, do you have a better idea?” Colm growled.
“Oh, shut it!” Pansy jumped up. “All of you shut it, already!”
“It’s a trap,” Ginny added suddenly causing all of them to look her way.
“A trap?” Amélie asked.
“Yes, it’s a trap. I reckon he was expecting Colm to go by the diner. He’s certainly done his homework.” She sighed as she ran her fingers through her hair. “He knows that our first course of action would be to go after him and kill him.”
“How do you know that?” Pansy asked curiously.
“It’s something Draco would do. Even something I would do. He’s drawing us out of hiding with an appearance. He would be prepared for us to go after him. Think about it? It’s too bloody easy.” She explained as she got up from the couch and stood next to Draco.
“Yes, it’s certainly something I would do to draw out a target but…” Draco started but stopped as he looked down at Ginny with a frown.
“He’s expecting you to do the opposite of what is logical, to wait and see our options. He knows that you’d be distracted because Amélie and I are in danger. He’s expecting you to come out swinging, so to speak.”
Draco cursed, “I hate that bastard,” he muttered.
“Ditto,” Amélie said as she threw herself on the couch. “So… what do we do?” She looked at her mom.
Ginny frowned, “I don’t know. Let me think…”

“This is really troubling news,” Kingsley said as he shook his head, “Really, really troubling.”
“It truly is. What do we do?” Jeff asked as he sat at his desk and looked at the paper. “Do we tell her?”
“Tell her…? I don’t know if that’s prudent.” Kingsley replied as he sat back in his chair.
“But their relationship, it was very strained, if I can remember correctly.” Jeff said as he continued to read the paper.
“Very much so but… truthfully, I don’t know how she will respond to this. Ginny Weasley is one confusing woman.” Kingsley answered as he held out a hand for the paper. Jeff passed it to him.
“What should we do, then? She will find out soon. Don’t you think it’ll be better if she finds out from us?” Jeff asked as he got to his feet and began to pace in front of his desk.
This situation definitely complicated things but Kingsley was right; there was no way to know how Ginny would respond to this news. Honestly, he was very worried about how she would take it. Ginny was one tough woman; more so than usual. She took a lot of things but this… well, this was different.
“I don’t suppose we have much of a choice, do we?” Kingsley sighed as he got to his feet.
This was truly devastating news. The British community was in turmoil at the news back home. Though, he wasn’t surprised Ginny hadn’t heard the news yet. Many thought she was dead. It had been over seventeen years since she was last seen in England.
“I guess there’s no time like the present,” Jeff muttered as he made his way to the fireplace. “Floo powder,” he mumbled as he handed the pot to Kingsley.
“Thank you,” Kingsley replied as he stepped into the fireplace, called out Ginny’s address and then released the powder.
Kingsley disappeared into the green smoke and then stepped into the fireplace. He shot one last look at the paper on his desk and sighed as he caught the headline:
Entire Weasley family murdered last night at family gathering. Community in tears over loss of such an iconic family.
Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath and followed Kingsley to the Weasley’s New York apartment.
