Chapter Twenty - Nine ~ Too Late

"It's only a matter of time now." Cho smiled evilly as she sat on a chair in the middle of the bare Malfoy Manor's ballroom, a new wand twirling rapidly between her fingers. "It's only a matter of time." She repeated happily.

The marble floor was spotless, so much so that Cho could see her reflection when she leaned forward in her chair and smiled at herself. She ran her fingers through her silky black hair and stared at her dark eyes. Though her lips were pulled back into a warped smile, her eyes didn't shine, they didn't look happy; that's because she truly wasn't happy. Now, what would make her happy was Ginny Weasley dead. So very dead, and broken, lying in a pool of her own blood that matched her fiery hair color; Cho smirked at the idea. All for Marietta, Merlin, she couldn't wait!

"Yes, it's any moment now," Lucius answered after he leaned against the door frame of the ballroom and looked down at the woman lying unconscious on the floor, her graying blond hair spread out around her; her arms and legs bound.

"Why did you bring her here? Here... on our final day?" Cho spat, eyes narrowed at the unmoving woman.

Lucius rolled his eyes. "Why, don't you believe my wife should be here to see the death of her son and his woman? Don't you reckon she has a right to know about her granddaughter?" He asked curiously.

"I don't bloody care about Draco or Amélie. I just want Ginny! I want her dead!" Cho hissed.

Lucius sighed as he looked at his watch.

"There is no reason to wait any longer." A voice from behind Cho called out.

Cho jumped away from the chair and aimed her wand at the cold, redheaded witch. Lucius grabbed his wand nervously. This wasn't good. He'd expected her to be furious, so overcome with emotion, she'd be irrational.

"Avada Kedavra!" Cho screamed, green light leaving her wand towards Ginny.

Except for panicking, her brown eyes narrowed and she disappeared. She reappeared behind Cho and whispered, "Try harder next time" and then disappeared again.

Cho spun around and yelled, "Crucio!" but Ginny was gone already and the spell slammed against the wall, shaking the paintings and leaving scorch marks.

Ginny appeared again beside Lucius, leaning against the other door frame of the grand ballroom and shot him a look. "I reckon murdering my family wasn't always part of the plan."

"Stop running! Are you afraid of me?" Cho screamed as she aimed her wand at the two. "Crucio!" The spell flew towards them but Ginny easily deflected it.

"Can't you see we are speaking here?" Ginny asked in an ice cold voice without looking away from Lucius. "Run along and leave the adults alone so we can talk in peace."

Lucius' eyes widened at her tone and then the hiss that left Cho's lips. He needed to stop the witch before she killed him too in her mad rage. He held up his hand as Cho rushed them and yelled, "Enough! Get a hold of yourself."

"Malfoy! How dare you -" Cho hissed but he cut her off.

"That's quite enough. Let us discuss this before the deed is done. I reckon you deserve an explanation or two." He said to Ginny. He sighed as he pushed away from the door frame and walked toward Cho, almost in the center of the room. He looked at the motionless body lying by Ginny and asked, "Do you remember my wife, Narcissa? I brought her here to... witness, you could say. But since nothing exciting is happening right now, we'll let her sleep in peace for just a while longer."

"There is no need to have witnesses for what is going to happen here." Ginny said before she blinked then appeared lounging comfy on the chair Cho had previously occupied.

"Yes, you're right. No reason to have your family and friends here to see you die." Cho shrugged, seeming to have gotten control of her rage.

"Since you already know about me, I reckon there's no reason to lie. Do you know why I’m not worried? In my line of work, there are no survivors to speak lies... if you catch my drift." Ginny crossed her legs and looked between Lucius and Cho. "Now, tell me why you murdered my family."

"Your family...?" Cho asked in genuine confusion.

"Yes, the entire Weasley family, aside from a select few, was murdered. Tell me why you did it." Ginny watched Lucius.

"I didn't kill your family. I only want you dead." Cho answered honestly.

"Yes, I know. I wasn't speaking to you, Cho. Once again, refrain from interrupting. Your voice is annoying." Ginny told her as her eyes stared into the same silvery - gray eyes that her lover and daughter had but she felt nothing but cold fury.

Lucius shrugged, "you're right. It wasn't part of the plan but I needed a new game plan so I had some help. I reckon now you'll regret not killing the muggle when you had the chance. It was his idea. Pretty genius, really; who knew a muggle could be so useful?" He snorted.

"Did killing them have the outcome you dreamed of?" Ginny asked.

Lucius watched her. No, it most certainly did not. She was cold, calculating, her bright brown eyes dark, hidden yet they seemed to burn. It gave him goose bumps.

He didn't answer her.

"Well, it doesn't matter. You shouldn't have come alone, Weasel. I wouldn't have done that but it seems to have a fantastically, desirable outcome! You're alone and you will die alone." Cho smirked as she neared Ginny but stopped as the air around Ginny seemed to crackle and sizzle around her. Cho frowned as her red hair seemed to rise around her. Her brown eyes growing darker as she stared at Lucius; it truly unnerved Cho.

"Women and children," her voice rang out, "you murdered them. Men, women, children; my mother, my father, my brothers, my sister-in-laws, my nieces and nephews... you murdered them all." She got to her feet and in the blink of an eye, her wand was in her hand and she hissed, "Crucio!"

Lucius fell to the floor as the spell hit him in the chest. Suddenly, the ballroom filled with his pain-filled screams. He twisted and turned, scratching, yanking and pulling at his clothes, his hair, anything he could get his hands on. He screamed, on and on; such agonizing screams.

Ginny didn’t even bat an eye.

For a second, Cho watched in surprise until something inside of her clicked and she held her wand towards Ginny but she was gone, standing above Lucius' withering body. The spell broke when she had moved but he was still caught in the pain. Ginny stared down at him with an expression filled with so much hate, so much fury.

Cho took her chance, "Avada Kedavra!" She yelled but Ginny disappeared. She growled angrily as she twirled around looking for the witch. "Come out now or I will find your daughter and use the Cruciatus curse until she loses her mind!"

"No, you won't." Ginny's voice whispered in her ear.

Cho spun around but no one was there. "Stop playing around!"

"Who's playing?" Ginny's voice called out from by the entrance of the ballroom, arms crossed and leaning causally against the doors as if she didn’t have a care in the world.

"Face me!" Cho yelled.

Ginny disappeared and Cho gasped as she appeared within a hairs breath of her face.

"Close enough? Imperio!" Ginny's wand pointed at Cho's forehead and she had no choice but to feel the affect of the spell take over. "Perfect. Stay still for a moment." Ginny instructed and Cho's wand hand fell to her side.

With that, Ginny stepped away towards Narcissa's body and as she moved, she could feel the unbearable anger slipping, so all she had was an inescapable sadness and pain. She sighed softly as she kneeled beside the older woman and rolled her onto her back. Narcissa was so very pale.

"Mrs. Malfoy...?" Ginny shook her lightly. "Mrs. Malfoy, please wake up." The woman wasn't waking up. Ginny removed the binding around her hands and feet. "Mrs. Malfoy, you need to wake up." She insisted and the woman groaned then her blue eyes opened slowly.

"What - what happened?" Narcissa gasped as she sat up. Ginny helped her to her feet.

"Lucius is back." Ginny answered. "Let's get you out of here or at least get in touch with Draco."

"You know my son? Wait... you're that Weasley girl! Jenny... no, Jamie... no, blasted memory..." Narcissa swore.

"Ginny, Mrs. Malfoy, we have to get you out of -" she was saying when she felt the air around her simmer and she quickly pushed Draco's mother out of the way and the bright light hit her square in the chest.

~.~.~

Narcissa watched with wide eyes as Ginny Weasley was hit by a spell square in the chest and blood seemed to simultaneously explode from her body as if she had been slashed with an invisible sword and she collapsed on the floor, her wand falling beside her. Instantly, blood began spilling from three long and wide cuts from her chest and Narcissa suddenly recognized the spell. She gasped, her hand coming to her mouth in shock.

“Yes, Narcissa, your memory is correct. It’s been quite some time, don’t you think?” Lucius’ voice came from behind her. “It isn’t really mine but I’m certain the owner won’t oppose to its use on a filthy Mudblood lover.”

She froze as his words hit her. “Sectumsempra…” she whispered as she dropped to her knees, blood soaking her light blue dress robes. She quickly tried to cover up the wounds and when that didn’t work, she tried to heal it but to no avail.

This woman was that woman, the woman that Draco was crazy in love with since he was a little over seventeen, eighteen years of age. He didn’t talk about her but Narcissa remembered talking with Pansy about the woman then and then a few weeks ago before the girl had held her miniature “intervention” at Blaise Zabini and his partner’s home in Hogsmeade. This was the girl Draco loved so much and she was spilling her life’s blood onto the floor around Narcissa but she couldn’t stop it and she didn’t know what she’d say to her son if the woman died.

“Dr – Dr – ac – Draco…” the girl tried and Narcissa’s heart broke as the girl reached for the closed ballroom door as if out those very doors were Draco. “Am… Am… Amélie…” She whispered as blood continued to spill through Narcissa’s fingers and she panicked, looking up towards the ballroom door to see it still sealed shut then looked towards Lucius who had a small smile on his lips as he stood a few feet away and watched her trying to hold Ginny together.

“Lucius… no… this can’t! This can’t happen! Fix her! I know you can. I know you know the spell to fix her. Do it. Do it now! How can you do this to Draco! He loves her! What kind of father are you that you would kill the woman your son loves!” She cried.

He chuckled. “This woman ruined Draco. She deserves to die.” He shrugged.

“How dare you! How DARE YOU!” Narcissa yelled. “He’ll kill you.” She turned away and looked at the other woman in the room. She didn’t recognize her but she was watching them with a sick look in her eyes though her face was expressionless, her body still.

“Don’t look to her for help. She’s wanted to kill this witchfor years.” Lucius chuckled again as he crossed his arms and watched Ginny. “You might want to do something. Her time is almost up. She’s unbelievably pale. Look, her hideous freckles are sticking out and there is so much blood.” He didn’t sound as if he gave a damn that the little witch was dying before his eyes.

Ginny coughed, blood spilling from her mouth. Narcissa quickly wiped it away. Ginny rolled her head to look in Narcissa’s eyes, blue to brown, her red hair drenched in her own blood.

“Te – tell Draco… I – I,” she coughed, “I l – love him.” Her eyes closed and Narcissa shook her roughly and her brown eyes opened again, unfocused. “Take – take care of A – A – Amélie…” her breathing slowed and Narcissa didn’t know what to do.

“Why did you bring me here if you knew I wouldn’t be able to help? Why?” She cried, tears spilling down her cheeks as she watched Ginny’s life slipping away.

“I wasn’t going to bring you but at the last minute I figured you’d like to see your son die since you loved him so much.” Lucius grinned widely as he watched Ginny’s hand reach again for the door. “It’s almost time for him to arrive. He should be here any minute.” His grin widened. “I think I hear… him… now…”

But Narcissa wasn’t paying attention because the light behind Ginny’s eyes was quickly fading. It was too late. Draco was too late and whoever this Amélie was… they were too late.
