Chapter Twelve ~ Truly and Thoroughly Doomed
“Come in!” Draco yelled to whoever knocked on his door. He was rushing around packing all kinds of things. He needed to get ready but first, first, he needed to sit down and write her a letter. She hadn’t responded to his last letter and even though he had prepared himself to not receiving a reply, it still hurt.
“What the hell are you doing?” A voice asked and Draco looked up to see Pansy standing by the door, her arms crossed.
“I’m going to New York City tomorrow and I have to be ready but bollocks! I need to write that letter first. Bloody hell! Where is my blasted parchment? And where is that stupid owl?” Draco growled as he rushed through his apartment at full speed.
“Draco! DRACO, STOP!” Pansy yelled and Draco froze right in front of his bedroom.
“What?” He asked, his voice dripping with annoyance.
“You’re going to New York City? Why?” She responded with a question; her eyes narrowing with suspicion.
“I forgot to tell you.” He moved, gone before her eyes and before she could blink he was standing in front of her.
“Merlin, Draco, have a care for my heart!” Pansy cried out as she placed her hand in front of said heart, trying to calm it’s quickened pace.
“Sorry, I forget.” Draco apologized.
Again Pansy’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “Who the bloody hell are you and what did you do with Draco?”
Draco snorted.
“Honestly! You apologized! Where did he go? I certainly fancy his company more than yours! You disgust me.” Pansy frowned.
Draco rolled his eyes and then grabbed her arms. “Pansy, I found her. And I spoke to Kingsley earlier. He saw her. I need to go see her. She’s in danger. I need to make certain she’s safe. I need to make certain she’s alive, she’s real, that she’s my Red.” He told her.
Pansy smiled. “I know you do. But do you have to do it like this? You are a wizard, for Merlin’s sake! Use your magic instead of running around like a madman!”
Draco snorted and with a swish of his wand, all of his things were packed. “What would I do without you, Pansy?” He asked sarcastically.
“Die,” Pansy shrugged nonchalantly as she walked over to his couch and sat down gracefully. “By the way, have you spoken to your mother?”
“Yes, I spoke to her.” He said as he searched for a parchment to start his letter.
“Did you know she believes you have some secret love child running around without you knowing?” Pansy chuckled lightly.
“Yes, she said that.” He responded as he found parchment and sat down at his dining room table only to realize he didn’t have a quill or ink. He cursed lightly as he summoned them to him.
“But that’s impossible…isn’t it?” Pansy asked. “You’re always careful. You can’t have some random Malfoy secret child running around, Draco. That’s bad for you and your reputation.”
“Of course, I have always been careful. Plus, this secret love child that my mother believes is mine is older than ten and younger than twenty – five.” Draco explained casually as he dipped his quill in the ink. “What do I say?” He wondered out loud after staring at the black parchment for ten, fifteen minutes.
“How about you start with “I love you, Ginny. I’ve been in love with you for a long time,” and finish with, “are you hiding a secret love child from me?” I think that letter will definitely open her eyes to you but you’d also have to duck from that nasty bloody Bat – Bogey Hex. I heard it’s disturbing how well she does it.” Pansy cringed jokingly.
“It is,” Draco chuckled.
Dear Ginny
“Dear Ginny?” Pansy read out loud over his shoulder. “That’s it?”
“Bugger off,” Draco growled as he covered his face. He had no idea what to do.
“Just put Ginny.” Pansy said as she sighed. “Do you want me to come with you? To New York City, I mean.”
“Not right now but maybe in a few days. You should also think about letting Blaise, Neville, Fred and Luna should head over. I know Ginny won’t say a word to anyone if her life is in danger but everyone would like to know. Tell them in a few days and have them come right over. It also works out that Hogwarts is in session. Being a professor, Neville will be able to get out and that will also mean the Weasley twins will be safely away in school.” Draco said and looked over to see her grabbing her cloak. “You’re leaving?”
“Yes, I have a dinner date.” She frowned. “Mother thinks he’s the one. If things turn out the way she wants, I’ll have some foolish last name.” She said then walked out the door and disappeared.
Honestly, Draco felt bad for her. Mr. and Mrs. Parkinson have made it their life goal to make certain Pansy was married and on her way to producing an heir for them before they passed on to the next life. Unfortunately for Pansy, she had to date countless idiotic and pompous bastards that mummy and daddy believed would be the one. Draco knew that one of these days she would snap and he’d be forced to arrest her, as being an Auror was his other job, for the deaths of countless wizards and a witch.
Draco sighed as he leaned over the blank parchment and just began to write.
Ginny,
I know it’s been a long time and that you are upset but –
~.~.~
I was a fool back then and honestly, you do have every right to be upset with me but the truth is that I miss you and I need to see you. Seventeen years has been way too long. I’ve search long and hard for you and finally, finally, I’ve found you.
I’ve recently learned from Kingsley that your life is in danger. I heard as well that my father has escaped from Azkaban. Kingsley explained a bit to me about how you and Minister CarMichael believe that he is part of some scheme to expose the Magical World, the organizations we work for and you. If your life is in danger, I want to help. I need to help. I need to know you’re safe.
There is also the fact that I might have some extra information pertaining to this case.
And you'll never believe, I saw the oddest thing the other day. She was…a girl and when I called her “Red” she denied it but I can’t refute the fact that she looks just like you. Who is she? I reckon I will find out shortly.
Be prepared, Red, because I’m coming for you.
Now.

Ginny’s hands shook lightly as she read it for the fifth time.
When she had returned home from Colm and Thomas’ dinner alone, Amélie had decided to stay behind to speak with Thomas, she had found a familiar eagle owl perched in front of her door. She had taken the letter and given it a treat. It had disappeared immediately and now she knew why.
Draco was coming.
She was both jubilant and petrified at the exact same moment as she stared down at the parchment in her hands. Jubilant because he was coming; coming for her and the glimpse of the woman - child he thought had been her.
Petrified because of the news he was bringing her. It could be the end of her, of Amélie, of him, of them all.
Honestly, she shouldn't be so surprised by this outcome; it really was only a matter of time before this happened but Ginny couldn't stop, for the life of her, the overwhelming fear from consuming her.
She was lost, lost and she felt at that moment that she could never be found, recovered, brought back to the life that she once knew.
Scared.
Petrified.
Losing herself within this onslaught of emotions.
The fear for Amélie overcoming the happiness of seeing Draco. It was clawing its way through her body, within her veins and into her heart.
She needed to find the way out of the situation they were in; them – Amélie, Draco and herself - because the second they found out about Amélie, the second they found out about her daughter, she was truly and thoroughly doomed.
But no, he didn't know that, now did he?
~.~.~
“My mom is going to die.” Amélie whispered as she sat Indian – style on Thomas’ bed staring at him. Her silvery – gray eyes were wide and red. She hadn’t cried until Ginny had left; Ginny had watched her the entire time they had dinner at the diner. It had been just the three of them: Amélie, Ginny and Thomas. Colm had disappeared the minute Ginny appeared. Amélie could tell that Colm’s distance hurt her mom but she never said a word to him. She knew that Ginny felt guilty, that she didn’t try hard enough to make Colm understand that she wasn’t interested in anything with anyone who wasn’t Draco Malfoy.
Honestly, Amélie didn’t feel bad for Colm. The more she watched him, she felt that Colm was an idiot to think that anything more would come from their friendship.
“Your mom isn’t going to die.” Thomas said pulling Amélie away from her thoughts.
She bit her lip as she looked at Thomas. His big brown eyes were filled with worry. She sighed as she ran her fingers through her hair.
“But Rìona said –” Amélie started to say when Thomas cut her off.
“That she had a vision. She is a seer, Amélie. She told us about the vision so now we can prevent it from happening. Remember? That’s what we do when Rìona has a vision, we prevent it from happening.” Thomas explained as he brushed a lock of her red hair out of her face.
Amélie smiled weakly, “when you say it like that, how can I worry?”
“That won’t make the worry go away. Your mom is all you have left in your life. Your family left you.” He said.
“My dad might come,” she whispered.
“Yeah, he might.” Thomas agreed.
“And I have you,” she looked up into his eyes and then hugged him tightly.
Thomas blushed and he was thankful that she couldn’t see it. After a few seconds Amélie pulled back but didn’t move away from him.
They stared into each other’s eyes.
“Thank you, Thomas.” Amélie whispered and then unable to stop herself, she looked at his lips that were barely an inch away.
She wanted to kiss him; she wanted to kiss him so bad. She had never kissed anyone. Many of the boys at Liatris had tried on more than one occasion but she always rejected them. She hadn’t had time for boyfriends or anything of the sort. She had Thomas. He had been her best friend but now, after all these years, she was starting to see that she wanted to be more than just friends with Thomas. He was her best friend. She liked him, a lot but now she was realizing that she liked him but not as friend.
She liked him as a girl would like a boy.
Amélie looked up into Thomas’ eyes and realized that they had turned black with an emotion that she didn’t quite know. Before she knew it, she was leaning forward. Her eyes closed when his lips brushed softly against hers. Her heart just about pounded out of her chest. It was a soft, simple kiss and Amélie pulled back quickly. She brought her fingers to her tingling lips. She had never felt anything like what she had just felt. It seemed as if her body had been electrified with the simple brush of Thomas’ lips against hers. She couldn’t believe that a kiss could feel anything like that.
Silence filled the room around her but she didn’t want to open her eyes, afraid that what she would be feeling would disappear or she would come to find out that it was only just a dream.
Unable to take the silence anymore though, she opened her eyes to look at Thomas; his pitch black eyes stared at her, his lips slightly parted as he watched her. His cheeks were a bit flushed as well and his hair was messy. And at that moment, Amélie thought that he was just the most adorable thing she had ever seen.
With that, Amélie smiled widely at him and grabbed him around the neck, pulling his lips once more onto hers.
