Chapter Thirty – Two ~ The End

Amélie heard Lucius’ body fall to the ground but didn’t look away from the madwoman in front of her. Cho Chang was no simpleton, well, to her at least. This was her first time truly fighting someone and she thought she was doing a pretty okay job. She didn’t go down, not even when she heard Thomas enter the ballroom, or when Cho had shot an arrow from her wand and it grazed her side or when she cried out because of it, distracting her dad and hearing Draco suffer because of it. No, there was no way in hell she was going to lose this fight. This crazy bitch was trying to kill her mother and she would die before she allowed that to happen. Everyone was protecting her, now she wanted to show her mom she was grown up enough for the job and that she could protect what she loved!

“Here, kitty, kitty. C’mon, kitty. Stop circling and attack,” Chang teased.

“If I’m the cat, does that make you the mouse?” Amélie brushed off her teasing as she glared into the woman’s crazed eyes.

“Oh, Merlin no! I’m the lion that is going to eat you!” Chang answered with an evil tilt to her lips.

Amélie rolled her eyes, “really? Into eating people? Guess Blaise was right. You definitely had that kind of relationship with Marietta Edgecombe!” She said with mock astonishment. “That explains a lot.”

Chang growled as she jumped to attack her and Amélie dodged her easily, throwing the Bat – Bogey hex at her and she heard a loud snort from behind her that sounded a lot like her father.

“She would do that as well as you.” She heard him mutter.

“She had to get something from me beside that bright hair.” Her mother responded. “Let’s wake this lot up, love.”

And Amélie tuned them out.

“How dare you play around with me, you child!” Chang spat her eyes wide with anger.

Amélie wanted to sigh loudly but she held it back. This was enough. Chang wasn’t in her right mind; she was entirely too emotionally to act rationally. She shook her head sadly.

“What?!” Chang yelled drawing everyone’s attention as they came to. “Why are you shaking your head? I’ll kill you and then your good – for – nothing mother! How dare you look down on me!” And in Chang’s madness, she moved faster than Amélie and the Cruciatus curse hit her.

Amélie had never felt anything so… so absolutely terrible, so intense, so all-consuming that she didn’t know where she was, she didn’t know up from down, left from right, right from wrong. It felt as if white – hot knives were piercing every inch of her skin and her head was going to explode with the pain.

So goddamn much pain.

It was unbearable.

She wanted to die!

She wanted it to end, for it to just stop! She screamed as her body withered in pain! She would do anything if it just stopped; if it just ended.

If she just died!

So, Merlin help her, why was she still alive? Why wouldn’t her heart give out and end this horrific pain? Why?

Merlin, why? Just stop! Stop! STOP!

And then suddenly the pain was gone but her body was still reacting to it. Never before had it experienced such a thing! Merlin, she never wanted to feel it again!

If you move another step, she is dead! Dead, do you hear me? Do understand what I am saying?” Chang’s voice rang through the ringing in Amélie’s ears.

“Amélie? Amélie, are you alright?” Her mother cried. “Amélie, answer me! Dear Merlin! Oh, answer me!” Ginny’s panicked voice grew louder until she heard her father’s voice.

“She’s okay, Red. Look, she’s moving. She’s okay. She’s okay,” he soothed her.

Amélie rolled over and opened her eyes to see her mother on all fours, in her own dried blood, tears spilling down her cheeks as she attempted to reach her but her father kept her in place, thankfully.

Amélie closed her eyes and took a deep breath, convincing herself that she was alright. It became a mantra in her mind: It’s in the mind. I’m okay. It's in the mind. I’m okay. It’s in the mind. I’m okay.

And it became so.

“Your daughter is defenseless, Weasley. Aren’t you going to come to her aid? Aren’t you going to rescue her?” Chang asked her voice high with excitement as she looked away from Amélie towards Ginny. “Your daughter is going to die if you don’t do something. Wouldn’t want that to happen, now would you? Just one more person to add to that endless pile of dead bodies that is left of your family. Your daughter will do lovely at the top of the list!” Laughter spilled from her lips as she stared at the struggling Ginny.

As the taunting continued, Amélie pushed herself to her feet, rolled her shoulders and then she felt the power; felt it like she never had before. It exploded through her body from the tips of her toes to the tips of her fingers. She could feel it building, building, building like a dame and just begging, waiting to explode, erupt from within her.

Amélie heard her turn towards her as she got to her feet; this fight wasn’t over. It was only beginning.

Her eyes flew open and she saw Chang take an involuntary step back; her instincts kicking in and it told Amélie one thing: Cho Chang was afraid; afraid of her.

That thought fueled her power and Amélie could feel the air around her crackle, feel her hair rise with it. She was powerful, she was in control. She was deadly. She was dangerous.

Suddenly, she could feel herself being lifted from the ground as her hair swept around her, wind whipping it wildly.

Chang’s eyes widened and she froze, her mouth hanging open as she stared.

“You dare threaten me.” Amélie’s voice rang out calm like the eye of the storm. “You dare harm my family.”

Chang shook her head, unable to speak.

Amélie lifted her left hand and swept it across her body rapidly; Chang’s body flew from her spot on the floor and collided with the wall then crumbled to the floor.

Silence filled the ballroom but Amélie didn’t notice as she lowered herself to the ground and slid over to Chang who was slowly and painfully picking herself off the ground. She was groaning and cursing as she leaned against the dented wall for support and she held onto her wand like a lifeline. As she saw Amélie approaching her, she lifted it with a shaky hand but it didn’t matter to Amélie.

She lifted her hand and Chang rose into the air, a few feet from the floor. She glared at Amélie, her dark eyes burning holes.

“You’re a freak, just like your mother, just like your father. A goddamn freak! Because of this, I’ll make you watch as I slowly torture your mother, your father, your grandmother, your friends and your little boyfriend.” Chang antagonized her and something snapped inside her as she heard the woman threaten not only her mother but everyone she loved; especially Thomas.

That was enough. She couldn’t allow that to go by. No, definitely not.

“Die,” she whispered as lifted both of her arms, held her hands a foot on top of the other and rapidly pulled them away from each other causing Cho Chang’s head to twist painfully and break her neck. She felt to the ground like a pound of bricks and then it was finally over. This was finally the end. The crazy witch would not be threatening anyone else she loved, definitely not.

As the miniature muggles from that movie said, “the wicked witch is dead,” Amélie whispered and then fainted.

~.~.~

Ginny watched as Amélie fainted and the blink of an eye, though she was still very weak, she was there catching her before she fell to the floor and she felt Draco come up behind her.

“Amélie!” Thomas yelled as he rushed over.

Ginny softly slapped her cheeks but she was out, dead to the world.

“Is she okay?” Thomas asked worriedly.

“She’s just fainted from overexertion. She’s never used that much power in such a short time. It takes practice but I am very impressed,” Draco answered as he brushed a wet lock from Amélie’s forehead. Sweat beaded her face; she had used too much of her power. The poor girl was exhausted.

Ginny sighed as she stared down at her daughter, “She is such an extraordinary child.”

“Just like her mother,” Draco whispered as he lifted Amélie into his arms, grinned at Ginny and said, “Let’s go home.”

Ginny nodded as she got to her feet and grabbed his arm, ready to blink them to the apartment.

“Wait, wait, wait!” A voice cried out, drawing their attention.

Narcissa was standing with her arms on her hips; her face flushed having been just woken from her bewitched sleep by Kingsley.

“What’s the matter, Mother? I’m exhausted.” Draco sighed.

“What’s the – what’s the matter? He asks! Bloody hell, this is unbelievable! There are two dead bodies lying on my ballroom floor. One that just happens to be my husband! You can’t just leave them here! You are the authorities! Clean this blasted mess up!” She yelled.

“Wow, look at that dirty mouth!” Pansy snickered as she cuddled into Colm’s side.

“Pansy, please! Look who’s talking!” Blaise shot at her.

“Children, enough!” Narcissa hissed.

“Yes, yes,” the two responded.

“Mother, I’m not the authorities here anymore. I’ve decided I’m moving.” Draco nodded.

“Moving? Where?” Ginny asked weakly.

“America, it’s more than I thought it would be,” he whispered in her ear and she shivered.

“Well, someone better clean this mess up.” Narcissa said as she stepped towards Ginny, Draco, Amélie and Thomas. “I’m going with this lot. America, I’ve never been. It seems I have a lot to catch up on.” She said as she looked at the unconscious redhead in her son’s arms.

“I’ll get this in order,” Kingsley sighed, “Blimey, retirement is looking awfully perfect.” He muttered as spelled the two bodies next to each other.

“I’ll help you.” Jeff said.

Kingsley grinned, “Thank you!”

“Those heading back to New York, all aboard the Weasel express!” Pansy yelled as she grabbed Colm’s hand and pulled him towards Ginny.

“Don’t call her that,” Draco hissed but Ginny simply rolled her eyes.

“Hopefully everyone ends up at the apartment. I am bloody tired. Well, hold on tightly and if you’ve traveled with me, I reckon it would be smart if you close your eyes.” She added as she felt everyone get a firm grip on her but she snaked her arm around Draco’s waist. His silvery – gray eyes lowered to hers and seemed to burn her soul.

“One, two, three,” she whispered, staring into his eyes and then blinked them all home.
