Chapter Thirty ~ That’s Rude
Draco was running; running at his fastest speed with Amélie in his arms and he didn’t care that no one else could keep up. His power, once again, provided him with the opportunity to cross the grounds in seconds. On arrival, they stood outside the Malfoy Manor gates and after he opened them, he pulled Amélie into his arms and within a second, they were at the front door before all the others. He didn’t wait for them, just blasting it open and they were off again, rushing to the one place he knew he would be too late. Rìona, the seer, had seen it. They’d be too late and Ginny would be dead and his life would be over and –
“Hurry, dad. We don’t have time to be worrying about visions and what not. Mom needs us.” Amélie whispered in his ear and she was right. Ginny didn’t need him to be thinking about other things right now. She needed him with her, his head clear of nonsense. He needed to save her.
Finally they were at the doors and he could hear his father’s voice.
“I think I hear… him… now.”
Amélie blasted open the door with her mind and jumped from his arms but it didn’t matter because lying on the floor, in a large pool of blood was Ginny, his Red; so pale, so lifeless looking. And he knew that that sight would be forever stuck in his mind until the day he died; and he wanted to die right now with his love.
“Draco, hurry!” A woman’s voice yelled and he noticed his mother, on her knees in Ginny’s blood, holding Ginny’s chest. “She has seconds!”
And he was there on his knees, opposite his mother, his wand held above his Red.
“What’s wrong? Tell me what’s wrong?” He instructed because he knew, if he thought too much, he’d break down due to the sight of her pale face, her dimmed and unfocused bright chocolate brown eyes that he so loved. Ginny didn’t even notice he was beside her and her eyes were wide open.
“Sectumsempra, Lucius hit her with Sectumsempra. Hurry, Draco, you must hurry!” Narcissa panicked, tears spilling down her cheeks, blood staining her hands and he never loved his mother more.
She had been trying to save Ginny.
“I know the spell to cure her.” He told her honestly and thankfully thought about that day, many, many years ago in the first floor girl’s bathroom, one fight with Harry Potter and Snape curing him as he began whispering “Vulnera Sanentur,” over Ginny’s three gaping wounds.
Once: to ease up the flow of blood coming from the wound.
Twice: to knit together the three opened wounds.
And a third time: to remove the worst effects of the curse.
Ginny would survive but since he didn’t have any Essence of Dittany on him and he couldn’t take her right away for medical treatment, she would carry the three scars on her chest for the rest of her life but that didn’t matter to him right now. They hadn’t been too late and she would have the rest of her life with him, with Amélie, together.
“Thank you, Merlin…” Narcissa whispered as she saw the cuts close.
“No, thank you, Mother; you saved Ginny.” He whispered as he lifted his hand and softly caressed her cheek. “Thank you so much, mother.” He whispered as he caught a tear with his thumb and brushed it away.
“Watch out!” Amélie screamed suddenly.
Draco looked up to see a green light heading towards them but he knew he couldn’t move them. Dammit, he couldn’t get them away fast enough. But as he had been thinking that, the spell moved two inches to the right of them, just missing them and slammed into the wall besides another set of ominous scorch marks.
He looked up to see Amélie standing in front of him, his mother and Ginny with her hands shielding them.
“What are you doing, Amélie? You could have been killed!” He hissed.
“I just saved your ass.” She growled back.
“N – no cur – cursing…” a soft voice whispered and the three of them looked down to see Ginny grimace and her eyelids flickering slowly.
“Mom!” Amélie cried, dropping to her knees.
“No,” Draco pushed her away, “not in the blood.” But Amélie was having none of that. She slid through the blood until she was leaning above Ginny and threw her arms around her mother then burst into tears.
“I thought – I thought I lost you. You were so still. You were so pale. I really thought you were dead!” She cried as she buried her face in Ginny’s blood stained cut shirt.
Draco took a deep breath to keep the tears at bay as he watched Ginny lift a shaky arm and caressed Amélie’s hair, inhale deeply her daughter’s scent and close her eyes with a sigh.
“I…” she paused, “I told you… that wouldn’t happen.”
Sudden clapping from behind them drew their attention and the three of them turned to see Lucius clapping with a slight smile to his lips. Cho was standing beside him, her arms crossed and a huge frown on her face; eyes burning with rage.
“I must say, that was not the turnout I was expecting.” He looked at Draco, Amélie and Narcissa kneeling beside Ginny. “I thought she would die.” He sighed as he crossed his arms. “Oh well, next time.”
“Over my dead body,” Amélie hissed, her silvery – gray eyes like storm clouds.
“Look at that!” Lucius smirked as he stared at her. “I was so furious that you laid with the dirty blood-traitor but what a magnificent creature the two of you have created! She’s perfect!” He took a step closer then looked at Narcissa who was staring at Amélie with wide eyes.
“You!” She gasped as she looked at Amélie.
Amélie looked her and her eyes widened. “You’re that lady who helped me find that muggle! What a small world!”
“Narcissa, please, meet your granddaughter! Isn’t she just perfect? If you look past that hideous bright red hair that clearly states she’s a Weasley, she’s truly a treasure! She is truly, truly a Malfoy. I can see it. And she will be perfect when I am finished with her.” Lucius laughed.
“My granddaughter?” Narcissa stared at Amélie in disbelief, looking at the pale Ginny and Draco whose eyebrows were raised slightly. “She was your secret love child! I knew it.”
“Yes, yes, you were right.” Draco muttered as he looked at the way Lucius was watching Amélie with an odd expression in his eyes. It worried him. He grabbed Amélie and pulled her behind him, shielding her from Lucius’ familiar gaze. “That’s enough, Lucius. Leave my child in peace. She has nothing to do with this. First, you almost kill my woman and now you plan to ruin my child. I will have none of this.” Draco got to his feet, blood soaking his clothes, on his arms and hands but his eyes steel, cold, threatening.
“And what will you do, Draco? You are pitiful. This is what becomes of you when you love. It is a lowly existence.” Lucius shook his head sadly. “Look at Chang for example. Love had molded her into a manic. She’s raving mad, completely and utterly crazy.” He pointed towards the woman.
Cho glared at the man. “I am not mad.”
“Fancy that you’re sane? Don’t be absurd!” Lucius chuckled at her angry expression.
“I’ve gotta agree with him,” Amélie mumbled from her position besides Ginny.
Lucius’ and Cho’s eyes zoomed in on her. Ginny slowly got into a sitting position and pulled Amélie behind her, sending both of them a glare. Even though she was clearly weak and barely on the verge of passing out, her burning eyes caused shivers to slide down their spins though they kept everyone from seeing.
“Don’t… look… at… my daughter.” Ginny mustered.
“Don’t look away from me.” Draco growled as he appeared suddenly in front of them. They both took an involuntary step back. “You almost killed my Red. How do you suppose we should fix this dispute between us?” Draco asked Lucius, not paying attention to Cho who slinked back away from the two Malfoys. She didn’t have any business with Draco. She just wanted Ginny dead and she had been so close; she thought as she caught a glimpse of Ginny. She and Narcissa were watching Draco and Lucius but Cho was startled to see the little Weasel staring at her, a different color than Ginny’s but the same intensity. It was greatly unsettling.
“You won’t do anything,” Lucius told Draco. “You are soft. A soft wizard should be a dead wizard, I believe.”
“Is that so?” Draco asked.
“Yes, it’s a sin against Merlin. A sin against the Dark –” he was cut off when Draco seized him around the throat and lifted him off his feet.
“Were you about to say a sin against the ‘Dark Lord’?” Draco hissed. “The Dark Lord? Are you out of your bloody mind? The Dark Lord was a half-blood! It goes against all your beliefs. Besides, the greatly, almighty Dark Lord is DEAD; dead, killed by a boy barely seventeen years of age and a pointless prophecy. Why would you follow such a man?” Draco snorted.
“Potter was lucky!” Lucius answered through clenched teeth.
“Yes,” Draco rolled his eyes. “Well, it doesn’t really matter because you are about to meet your precious Lord in Hell.”
“Dad! Look out!” Amélie yelled as she saw Cho lift her wand and shoot a spell towards Draco and Lucius.
Draco was forced to release Lucius as the Killing curses green light flew inches to the left of him as he ducked out of the way.
“Draco!” Both Ginny and Narcissa cried out.
He looked over to see Ginny struggling to get to her feet and Narcissa trying to prevent her. Ginny was too weak right now.
“No, dear, you mustn’t move.” Draco heard his mother tell her but Ginny was stubborn. She forced herself to her feet and Narcissa had no choice but to help her and hold her up.
Amélie stood a few feet away from them, protecting them facing him, Lucius and Cho simultaneously, her wand out and ready.
“Don’t be such a spoil sport, Chang.” Amélie antagonized. “Offing someone when their back is turned; that’s rude. Didn’t your mother ever teach you any better?” She took a step towards the older woman.
“Shut up, you child. You don’t know anything!” Cho spat angrily.
Lucius sighed drawing Draco’s eyes.
“She’s your partner. You should know better than to team up with a woman off her rocker. Didn’t you learn the last time?” Draco asked. “You seem to have a bad habit of choosing the losing side, old man.”
Lucius snorted.
“Oh Draco, Draco, Draco,” a twisted smile slipped on Lucius lips, “you will die and then your lovely Red. Leaving poor Amélie in my very capable hands,” he lifted his hands, his wand in his right hand.
“Fuck no,” Draco hissed as he lifted his wand.
