Chapter Six ~ His Missing Redheaded Minx

Ginny and Amélie stared at each other; neither of them wanted to believe that a wizard or witch would do such a thing but there was no other way to explain what had happened.

“Maybe it’s not what we think.” Amélie tried but once the idea had been planted in Ginny’s brain she knew it was true.

Ginny bit her lip as she laid back down against the bed. “No, love, it’s exactly what we think.”

“So what do we do?” Amélie whispered as she laid down beside Ginny, looking at her for the answer.

Ginny sighed, closing her eyes and knowing exactly what they needed to do. “We have to let the Minister know. He’ll then alert the authorities. After the authorities are alerted, they’re probably going to erase the muggle’s memory and then the order for the hit will be sent out for the wizard or witch that is his source when they are found.” She said as she looked up at the ceiling.

“Order the hit for them? Why?” Amélie asked.

“Because he obviously knows about the Organization and about me; this person knows my secret and Jeff knows that that is a problem and as you will learn as you work with this Organization, problems are always taken care of.” Ginny explained to Amélie nodded in response.

“That makes sense,” Amélie agreed as they both laid back staring at the ceiling.

After a few minutes of silence, Amélie sighed and rolled onto her side to look at Ginny. She had been thinking a lot about her mom lately and why someone would like to expose her to the two worlds; Muggle and Magical. It really didn’t make any sense to her. Yeah, Ginny was a hit – witch. She killed people; bad people. Not good people who donated money to the poor or won awards for being charitable and peaceful; at least not in the dark. Amélie believed her mom was doing something right because to her, when you arrested a criminal and locked them away in prison there will always be the possibility that that wizard or witch will one day get out and once again terrorize innocent people as they once did. That’s why she supported what her mom did, why she was going to do the same thing one day.

“Don’t think too hard, baby,” Ginny said as she smoothed out the creases on Amélie’s forehead. Whenever Amélie was deeply in thought, she had the same expression Draco would get. It made her smile.

“Mom, why do you think that this person wants to expose you?” Amélie asked her.

Ginny sighed, she knew Amélie would ask this and the truth was that Ginny didn’t really have an answer for her. She knew that as an Auror and a hit – witch, she would have enemies but most of the people who would know who she was were…well, dead.

“There could be the possibility that someone knows about my profession.” Ginny told her.

“But that doesn’t make any sense. You’ve never been caught and if someone knew, don’t you think they would have said something before?” Amélie asked.

Ginny shrugged, “not necessarily. Maybe they were waiting for the perfect opportunity. That’s what I would do.” She admitted as she sat up and stretched.

At that moment a tap on the window caught their attention. Ginny blinked herself in front of the window to see a black eagle owl with a scroll attached to its claw.

Ginny smiled when she recognized the owl; she let it in and the owl flew to the bed and landed in front of Amélie.

“Oh! It’s from Uncle Neville!” Amélie smiled as she removed the scroll from the owl’s claw. The owl hooted happily, affectionately bit her fingers then flew out the window and disappeared.

“What does it say?” Ginny asked Amélie as she skimmed through the letter.

“He’s coming to visit in about half an hour. It says that Blaise is having dinner with that Pansy woman you told me about before and the…” Amélie frowned as she looked at the letter.

“And the what?” Ginny asked as she walked into her closet to grab some clothes to wear after her shower.

“Why would Uncle Neville call someone a ferret? That’s mean even though I’ve never heard of that being used as an insult.” Amélie asked curiously.

Ginny laughed loudly, she had to clench her side tightly because she was laughing so hard.

“What’s so funny?” Amélie asked. She was so confused.

“Ferret…haha…I can’t believe Neville still remembers that! It’s been over twenty something years since that happened though we used to say it all the time. Well, see the thing Amélie; back in the day when Draco and I attended Hogwarts, Draco was well…let’s just say he was a git. One day he was picking on Harry when…” Ginny explained to Amélie what happened during Draco’s fourth year. By the time she finished Amélie didn’t know if she should laugh or be seriously angry that some jerk, a Death Eater in disguise, had transfigured her father into a ferret.

“it’s okay, love, you can laugh. Draco had a laugh once or twice about that once we graduated. When he was being a git he’d call me a weasel and I’d call a ferret, we would fight and then everything would be okay.” Ginny smiled as she remembered those times all of those years before.

“How much did you two fight?” Amélie asked confused about the relationship her parents had all those years ago.

Ginny’s smile widened, “we fought all the time but most of those were him teasing me and my temper would come out. He loved to tease me; he always enjoyed it when I was angry.” She shook her head as she chuckled lightly.

“Thomas likes to tease me.” Amélie pouted.

“Do you know what that means?” Ginny asked as she looked at her daughter.

“It means he’s mean.” Ginny laughed at Amélie’s words.

“That’s not what it means at all, mom!” Amélie blushed.

Ginny’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. She didn’t think Amélie felt the same way as Thomas did but maybe she did.

“You’re blushing, Amélie.” Ginny told her.

“I am not!” Amélie growled. She jumped off the bed and stormed out of Ginny’s room.

Ginny laughed when a second later she heard Amélie’s bedroom door slam loudly.

“Oh Draco, you’d love the fire and life in our daughter.” Ginny whispered softly as she leaned against the wall of her bedroom and looked out at the New York City skyscrapers surrounding their apartment building.

“I’m not going to ask where you’re going and who you’re going to see but blimey, wear a sweater. I hear it’s cold out there.” Blaise scolded as he tightened Neville’s cloak around his body.

“I’ll be fine, Blaise.” Neville rolled his eyes.

He loved the summer holidays. He got to spend more time with Blaise but he also was able to slip away and visit Ginny and Amélie. He hadn’t seen them since last summer and he missed them. Every summer he was shocked at how much Amélie had grown and how much she was like Draco. It was crazy. The girl had spunk and backbone; and her temper was a ridiculous combination of Draco and Ginny’s.

“Hurry or you’ll be late for dinner with Pansy and Draco. Be sure to get more information from Draco about his search. I’ve heard that he’s been driving both Kingsley and the others mad with his questions and other things.” Neville said as he followed Blaise out of their home.

Blaise nodded, gave Neville a quick kiss that heated him from the tip of his toes to the tip of his ears, winked playfully and then apparated.

Neville smiled goofily, that man had his heart in his hands and they both knew it. He couldn’t wait for tonight. Tonight he would get Blaise alone and he would seduce him and they would – ah! I need to stop right there! Neville thought to himself as he pulled out his wand and apparated to the nearest apparation port on a small island created by a wizard within the Atlantic Ocean and then apparated the rest of the way to New York City, into a side alley next to Ginny and Amélie’s apartment.

He pulled off his cloak when he was engulfed in the heat. He rolled his shoulders as he made his way into the apartment building and up the steps to their front door. He knocked and waited. He heard Amélie yell, “Mom, someone is at the door!” to which Ginny replied, “Bloody hell, Amélie, just answer it!”

He smiled and called out, “it’s Neville. Open up.”

Suddenly the door was pulled open to his two favorite redheads. Amélie taller than Ginny but both had identical smiles on their faces.

“Neville!” Ginny said at the same time Amélie said, “Uncle Neville!”

They both grabbed his arms and pulled him in, the door shutting behind him.

“Thank Merlin you’re here! I haven’t seen you since last summer. It seems like forever! So tell me about England? Is it cold? Has it been raining a lot? How’s Hogwarts? Do the students like your Herbology class?” Amélie asked bombarding him with questions.

“Amélie, baby, take a breath.” Ginny snorted as she blinked her way into the kitchen and returned with a glass of Butterbeer. She handed it to Neville whose eyebrows shot up at the Butterbeer.

“How do you get these all the way over here?” He asked.

“I have an unlimited supply of my favorite foods from back home in my pantry. It comes right from the Burrow. Some might call it stealing but I call it taking what is rightfully mine.” Ginny shrugged as she sat down on the couch and tucked her feet under her.

“That’s stealing if they disowned you, mom.” Amélie rolled her eyes and grabbed Neville’s hand, pulling him towards the couch to sit beside her.

“Stealing, borrowing, geez, it’s not going to waste. And they don’t even notice, I bet.” Ginny winked.

Neville chuckled at Ginny. She never changed. It had been seventeen years and she was pretty much the same. She was a bit hard around the edges some days but she raised her daughter on her own. She did a good job, Neville thought as he looked at Amélie.

“Congratulations,” Neville smiled as he handed her a wrapped gift.

Amélie’s silvery – gray eyes widened at the gift. “What is it?” She whispered as she held the box in her hands.

“Open it,” Neville told her.

She nodded as she pulled off the wrapping and opened the box to find a Broomstick Servicing Kit which included a jar of Fleetwood’s High – Finished Handle Polish, a pair of gleaming silver Tall – Twig Clippers, a tiny brass compass to clip on the broom for long journeys and a Handbook of Do – It – Yourself Broomcare.

Amélie smiled so wide, it was amazing. Neville and Ginny smiled as she sorted through the things until she stopped and looked down at them sadly.

“What’s wrong, love?” Ginny asked.

“But…I don’t own a broomstick.” Amélie sighed sadly as she stared at her new present. “Mine broke during the last Quidditch match at Liatris.”

Ginny and Neville smiled at each other. Ginny blinked herself to her closet then blinked back with a package in her hands.

Amélie’s eyes widened when she saw the other present.

“I wanted to give this to you the day you graduated but I had to wait for Neville to give you the other part. So, congratulations, Amélie.” Ginny said as she handed her the present.

Amélie unwrapped the present to find the newest model of the Firebolt broomstick. She squealed as she jumped up and hugged both Ginny and Neville.

“Oh sweet Merlin! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!” She yelled as she ran around with it in her arms, hugging the broomstick.

Ginny was smiling happily at her daughter when green flames appeared in her fireplace and Jeff’s head came through.

“Ginny, I have some information on – oh, you have company.” Jeff said when he noticed Neville sitting on the couch with her; he could hear Amélie screaming happily in the background. “What’s going on over there?” He asked curiously.

“Amélie is just happy with the presents she received for graduating from Liatris.” Ginny explained. “Jeff, this is my long – time, good friend Neville Longbottom. Neville, this is the U.S.A Minister of Magic, Jeff CarMichael.”

“Nice to meet you, Minister,” Neville nodded to the man.

“Likewise,” Jeff said, “I need to speak with you. It’s about what we spoke about earlier this week.”

“Ah, Amélie has taken that task. Speak with her while Neville and I begin cooking dinner.” Ginny said as she stood up and motioned for Neville to do the same. “Amélie, Jeff needs to speak with you.” Ginny called out for her daughter.

Within seconds Amélie was kneeling before the fireplace. Jeff smiled and nodded. Ginny nodded back giving the cue to the Minister that it was safe to begin as soon as her and Neville left the room.

Amélie looked back a second to see both her mom and Uncle Neville walk into the kitchen. She looked back at Jeff and smiled, “what did you need to speak with me about?”

“I have some information about that muggle. Have you found any information about his source?” He asked.

Amélie bit her lip. Ginny and her had talked a bit more about the source and decided that they had to be right. Ginny told her to tell the Minister.

“As a matter of fact, yes, I’ve got some information…” Amélie told Jeff all about the information she had found and what it could possibly mean. When she finished Jeff’s expression was shocked.

“A wizard is behind this?” He asked her.

“That’s the only thing that makes sense. Mom and I discussed it for a while and it makes perfect sense. It’s the only way that he can know so much information about us and mom.” Amélie explained.

Jeff nodded, “You’re right. It’s the only way.”

Amélie sighed as she ran her fingers through her hair then rubbed the back of her neck nervously.

“I’ve just found out that the muggle has traveled to London, England. I want you there to do some more recon work. We need to know everything about this situation and the muggle’s source.” Jeff told her.

Amélie’s interest sparked up. She was going to England.

“Yes sir,” She nodded and with that Jeff’s head disappeared along with the green flames.

~.~.~

“England? You’re going to England?” Ginny asked Amélie that night after Neville left.

“Yes,” Amélie said as she packed things in her bag. “I’m excited. I haven’t been to England since I was born. It’s going to be so much fun.”

“Amélie, you are going there for work. There will be no fun going on at all. Work, work, work! And you are to come back home as soon as you are finished.” Ginny demanded.

“Oh c’mon, mom, don’t be such a worrywart.” Amélie rolled her eyes.

Ginny sighed and blinked herself to her bedroom. She was nervous for Amélie to go to England. She hadn’t been back since she left seventeen years ago and honestly, she didn’t want to ever go back. Yes, England was her home once but now, now, it was nothing but a place where she had once lived, loved and lost almost everything good in her life.

A tapping on the window drew her out of her thoughts. She opened it and Jeff’s black owl appeared, dropping a parchment in her hands. As soon as the owl dropped it, it flew out the window and blended in the night.

She opened it up and smiled as she read it. She had a new assignment and it seemed as if she was going along with Amélie.

The Weasley girls were heading back to England.

~.~.~

Pansy and Blaise stared at Draco as he gulped down a glass of wine and ate quickly.

“Are you in a hurry, Draco?” Pansy asked disgusted. She had never seen Draco act this way before.

“I’m in a hurry. I’ve been given information about a wizard who knows a muggle who might have information pertaining the whereabouts of my Red. I’m meeting the wizard tonight. It’s in about,” Draco looked down at his watch, “half an hour. I need this information. I’m close. I know it.”

“Oh, well, don’t let us keep you.” Blaise rolled his eyes as he leaned back in his chair.

“Good, I’m off.” Draco said as he took one last bite of his dinner and left the table.

Pansy and Blaise stared after him.

“Well, I hope he finds her soon or else I’m going to bloody murder him.” Pansy hissed as she took a sip of her wine.

Blaise smiled into his cup.

~.~.~

That night as Blaise and Neville slept a tapping woke them up. Blaise magically opened the window and Draco’s gray eagle owl flew in, dropped a parchment and flew back out. Blaise closed the window and sat up as he opened the parchment.

“Who is it from?” Neville asked sleepily.

“Draco,” Blaise muttered as he read it.

The muggle is hiding in England. The wizard said he’s looking for him and that the muggle has some information about a redhead woman. He’s seen her before. I’m going to see him in a few days when the wizard lets me know. Let Neville know I’ve almost found her.

“He says to let you know he’s almost found her.” Blaise said as he placed the letter on the nightstand and snuggled closer to Neville.

“Found who?” Neville asked.

“His missing redheaded minx.”
