Chapter Eighteen ~ Your Survival

“Ten o’clock on the dot. I won’t say how shocked I am to see all of you.” Jeff looked around his office. Every single person for the night before was present. He took a sip of his coffee as his eyes landed on Ginny. The redhead witch had a small, mischievous smile upon her lips as well as a faraway look glazing her eyes. He wondered what put that look into her eyes until Draco Malfoy came up behind her, his hand caressing her shoulder that brought a soft blush to her cheeks.

Jeff lifted his mug to cover his smile. He could guess now what put that smile there.

“Alright, you guys. Let’s get down to business.” Jeff finally said to which everyone nodded.

“What’s there to discuss, really?” Amélie asked seriously. “Just catch the bastards and then kill them. Truthfully, it seems quite simple to me.” She shrugged.

Draco nodded in agreement; Ginny simply rolled her eyes.

“Amélie, baby, unfortunately, it’s not going to be that easy.” She explained.

“Why not?” Pansy asked. “Let’s just get along with it and you unnaturally freakish people can do your thing,” she nodded towards Ginny, Draco, Amélie and Thomas, “Colm, you’re not included, of course.” She winked.

Colm flushed as Pansy grinned wickedly at him.

“Pansy, stop it.” Blaise said finally. “The poor boy can’t deal with your overbearing attraction.”

“Bastard!” Pansy hissed towards him to which Blaise shrugged.

“But if I remember correctly, your seer had a vision.” Luna added suddenly.

“She did,” Ginny agreed as she looked at her sister-in-law.

“I know you aren’t worried but –” Luna was saying when Pansy jumped in.

“She’s worried. She just doesn’t want us to realize it.” Pansy said.

“Oh please.” Ginny snorted. “I’m not such a pansy.” Ginny winked at her.

Pansy rolled her eyes. “A pansy, really? Haha, like I’ve never heard that before.”

“Sorry, sorry, couldn’t help myself.” Ginny snickered.

“Real mature, mom, real mature.” Amélie groaned.

Ginny smiled at her daughter.

“Honestly, I’m not worried…” She was saying and then stopped, really thinking about it. “I’m not worried about myself, really.”

“What do you mean?” Amélie asked and then frowned when no one answered her. She didn’t have to be a goddamn rocket scientist to realize what her mom meant after the silence and all the stares. “Oh, c’mon!”

“Amélie, dear, it’s going to be dangerous. I really think you should go to England… or maybe you could stay at Hogwarts.” Ginny tried.

“No,” Amélie responded quickly, “absolutely not.”

“But –” Ginny started but Amélie cut her off.

“I’m not going to hide safely while some bitch wants my mom dead and my damn grandfather is trying to kill everyone I love!” Amélie hissed.

Everyone stared in surprise.

Ginny was the first to speak, “watch your language,” but Amélie completely ignored her.

“Lucius isn’t going to kill anyone.” Draco said as he looked over at his daughter. It drove him mad that she was already an adult, already a full-fledged witch and could technically take care of herself. She didn’t need him; not that she ever had considering he just found out about her.

A soft hand on his arm drew his attention away from his daughter towards the love of his life, his existence, the woman who was his life.

“I won’t let him kill anyone.” He hissed as he looked into Ginny’s bright brown eyes.

“Me either,” she smiled at him.

“Now that that’s settled…” Jeff said sarcastically causing the entire group to look his way. “I have your attention? Lovely.”

“Sorry, Jeff.” Amélie muttered, slightly uncomfortable.

“It’s okay. I know this is a touchy subject for everyone here but we need to stay focused, people.” Jeff explained.

“So…what do we do then?” George asked

“We wait.” Jeff said.

Silence followed for a few seconds until suddenly everyone was talking at once.

“You want to us to wait?” Ginny asked in shock. “Wait for what?”

“Are you mad?” Draco growled.

“No, bloody way!” Neville exclaimed.

“That’s…that’s not a good idea.” Luna said.

“That’s a horrible idea!” Colm yelled.

“We’re not waiting.” Blaise explained.

“If we wait… mom could die.” Amélie said and Ginny caught that over what everyone else said.

“I’m not going to die.” She said.

“No, you’re not.” Kingsley added then looked at Jeff who nodded at some unspoken question. Kingsley sighed then looked at every person in the office. “We wait for them to make their first move since we have no idea where they are or what they are planning to do.”

“Well… I reckon that makes sense,” Ginny bit her lip.

“It makes damn good sense, Weasley.” Pansy added.

“Hey, don’t talk to her like that.” Colm jumped up and glared at Pansy.

Pansy’s eyebrows shot up and her lips turned into a smirk. “What was that?” She asked curiously.

“Ginny said it made good sense. She agreed. There’s no need to be rude about it.” Colm growled.

“I heard what she said.” Pansy nodded. “You don’t have to tell me that, however, I was referring to your comment.”

Colm flushed.

“I like you.” She grinned, “Even more now.” She slipped her arm around his waist and cuddled him.

Ginny covered her mouth to keep herself from laughing; poor Colm was in big trouble if Pansy was serious about him.

“What?” Draco asked her.

Ginny simply smiled, shaking her head. Pansy would be good for him. Colm needs someone like her, not like me; Ginny thought as she watched them.

“So, what do we do to draw them out?” Neville asked.

“Go about your life like normal. I would recommend those who don’t live here to return –” Jeff was saying until Draco cut him off.

“I’m not going anywhere.” He said.

“Home but I know you won’t leave, so make yourselves comfortable and just remain calm until further notice.” Jeff continued as if Draco never interrupted.

“That we can do,” Amélie smiled.

“Okay, that’s all for now. Get out, I have work to do.” Jeff said to which everyone got up to leave.

“Thank you, Jeff.” Ginny smiled as she grabbed Draco’s hand and threw her other arm around Amélie’s waist.

“I’ll keep in touch, Ginny. Let me know if anything happens.” Jeff nodded then became immersed in his work.

Everyone was standing around outside his office as Ginny, Amélie and Draco exited.

“What now?” George asked.

“Let’s head back to the apartment and we’ll figure everything out.” Ginny said as Draco wrapped his arms around her waist. She looked towards Amélie. “You coming with us?”

“I’ll head back with Thomas.” Amélie responded as she grabbed Thomas’ hand and headed towards the apparition point outside of the Ministry.

Ginny smiled while Draco’s eyebrows furrowed.

“I just got her and already I’m having issues with boys.” He grumbled softly so only Ginny could hear. She chuckled.

“She’s seventeen, Draco. She’s old enough to have boyfriends.” She turned in his arms and smiled up at him.

“I know. Doesn’t mean I have to like it, does it?” He growled.

“Boy troubles already?” Blaise teased.

“Stuff it, Blaise.” Draco hissed.

“Thomas is a good kid.” Colm defended his brother.

“No one asked you.” Draco growled.

“Hey, hold it right there!” Colm started to make his way towards Draco, flames appearing around his hands.

“Oh, no.” Ginny groaned. “We’ll meet you at the apartment,” she said quickly to the others, held tightly to Draco and instantly blinked them away.

~.~.~

“Do you always have to rile him up?” Ginny asked as she placed nine butterbeers on the coffee table.

“I can’t help it. That blood git just makes my blood boil. First it was Scarhead and now it’s this idiot.” Draco explained.

“There has never been anyone else since you, Draco; since I fell in love with you all that time ago. So don’t worry so much.” She smiled at him as she stood on the tip of her toes to gently kiss his lips. Draco wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her off her feet. Ginny immediately wrapped them around his waist as Draco deepened the kiss.

A knock on the door drew their attention.

“It’s us so stop sucking face!” Blaise yelled through the door.

“I’m going to kill the git.” Ginny groaned as Draco released her and she opened the door to let them in. The entire group filed into her apartment and quickly found places to sit. Ginny frowned when she realized that Amélie and Thomas weren’t among the group. “Where’s Amélie?”

Pansy grinned mischievously as she wiggled her eyebrows. “Maybe they’re getting it on. Seventeen isn’t that young to be shagging, you know.”

“Pansy!” Ginny hissed as Draco jumped up from the chair he had been sitting in.

“Shagging? With my daughter?” Draco hissed. “Hell no!” He turned to the door and suddenly, out of thin air, Ginny was standing in front of the door, barracking it.

“Draco! I’m certain that’s not what’s happening!” Ginny explained as his silvery-gray eyes clouded over with anger.

“Wow, he’s got the dad part down pack!” Pansy chuckled.

“Red, move.” Draco said calmly but he was anything but.

“Seriously, Draco. Sit down. Wait for Amélie to come and explain. She’s an adult, remember. An adult  and you must treat her like such.” Ginny told him.

Draco sighed and fell into his chair. “Having a daughter is so nerve wrecking.”

“Tell me about it.” George agreed.

“Anyway…” Luna drew all of their attention. “Let’s discuss what we must do while the children are away.” She said her dreamy voice serious.

“Good idea,” Ginny said as she sat on Draco’s lap.

~.~.~

“Amélie? Amélie! Amélie, wake up! Oh Merlin, oh Merlin, please wake up! Oh damn.”

Amélie stirred from unconsciousness but didn’t open her eyes. She was having a great dream; Thomas and her were sitting on a beach, it was very sunny. She was sunbathing on towel next to him. Before she was woken up, dream Thomas had leaned over and brushed his lips lightly against hers. She sighed.

“Amélie! Please wake up! C’mon! Don’t be dead, Merlin, please don’t be dead!”

Dead? Amélie wondered. How can I be dead? She tried to open her eyes but she couldn’t. That alarmed her. She tried again but still nothing. Her heart began to pound quickly in her chest. She rolled over and heard the voice sigh in relief.

“Thank Merlin you’re okay.”

“Th – Thomas?” She whispered.

“Yeah, Amélie, it’s me. Are you okay?” He asked.

“N – n – no… I don’t think so. What – what happened?” Amélie asked as she forced her eyes opened and tried to sit up. She realized that they were in serious trouble when she found herself chained to the wall of what looked like a dungeon. It was dark and damp and she was in a lot, a lot of pain.

“We’ve been –” Thomas was saying with the door to their cell was opened. Amélie looked up but she couldn’t see who it was as they stood just out of sight, in the shadows.

“Hello, children,” a female voice said as a male voice chuckled behind her. There were two of them; Amélie concluded.

“Who are you?” Thomas asked.

“That’s not truly important. Now, what is important is that you give me the information I want.” The female said.

“Why don’t you come into the light so I can get a better look at you?” Thomas asked.

“Now, now. That’s also not important. Just answer my questions and I’ll release you.” The woman said.

Thomas snorted, “no, you won’t.”

“You’re right. No, I won’t.” The woman said. “Anyway, Thomas Kristoff, you are currently a trainee working for a secret organization within the United States of America’s Ministry of Magic, are you not?”

“How can there possibly be a secret organization within the Ministry of Magic, ma’am?” Thomas asked back.

“There is. Now, again, are you a current trainee within this secret organization?”

“No,” Thomas answered. “But it doesn’t matter because there isn’t a secret organization within the Ministry.” He answered skeptically. If Amélie didn’t know that he was part of the organization, much like her, she wouldn’t have questioned his answer; he sounded that sincere.

“Interesting…that’s not what I learned.” The woman said.

“Well, you’re information is incorrect.” Thomas shrugged.

Amélie bit her lip as she watched the interaction between the two.

“Well, that’s unfortunate that you’re not being serious.” The woman sighed, “I’ll give you one more chance. Now, is it true that there is a British employee of this secret organization that began working there near to seventeen years ago?”

“I could answer your question if I was part of this secret organization you were talking about.” Thomas answered.

“Listen, you little shit, answer my questions correctly or your little girlfriend here will be in serious pain.” The woman growled angrily.

Amélie listened in shock. Obviously this woman had to be looking for her mother. That meant that this woman must be the Cho Chang woman everyone was talking about and that the man must be Lucius Malfoy, her grandfather. She realized in shock. But it didn’t make any sense, what was happening. If they were looking for her mother, wouldn’t they be asking her what her mother’s whereabouts were?

Unless they didn’t know who she was; Amélie realized.

She shot a look at Thomas who was watching Cho Chang with an odd expression on his face causing Amélie to figure he had come to a similar conclusion. She was certain when Thomas shot her a quick glance.

Keep your head down and your eyes closed; drifted into her mind causing her to jump slightly. She hadn’t thought that and that voice sounded just like Thomas’.

Yeah, sorry I never told you. I just recently figured it out. This is my power. I’m called a Mind Walker. I can project words and pictures into people’s minds. Cool huh? Thomas said.

He can speak into my mind? Amélie thought. Can he read it? Can he read my mind? She wondered in a panic.

Can you read my mind? She asked mentally as she looked at him.

No response.

I can’t read your mind if that’s what you want to know. Thomas explained. But anyway, it seems they don’t know who you are so please, please, please stay quiet, keep your head down and your eyes closed when they’re talking to you. They will definitely recognize you by yours eyes. They are a dead giveaway who your father is.

Amélie nodded slightly as to not draw attention to herself.

“You are so unreliable.” Cho Chang sighed dramatically. She took a step back and shut the door to the cell. They couldn’t see her anymore, even though she had been in the shadows, but her voice drifted to them. “I know you are lying to me, Thomas. I know that much but you must tell me everything you know about Ginevra Molly Weasley. Not only does your survival count on it, but so does your girlfriend’s.” Cho explained.
