Chapter 2

Stella's POV:

Growing up in a family of police officers, My life wasn't always a perfect, for instance when I was fifteen I lost my first love in a tragic motorcycle accident. When I was informed about Brad's death by my father after he had come home after dealing with the wreck.

I remember my father taking me by the hand and leading me into the living room, where he pulled me in front of the sofa, told me to sit down that there was something important that he had to tell me.

As I sat down on the couch I remember seeing a mixture of sadness and guilt in his eyes as mom handed him a chair from the dining room table, then watched him place the chair down in front of where I was sitting at and then sat down.

He sat there for a several minutes watching me, silently, before he gently placed his hand on top of mine and sighed.

"Sweetheart, I have a bit of bad news that I'm about to tell you. Now, what I'm about to say might come as a shock to you. But I want you to remember that your mother and I are here for you no matter what." He said in the gentlest voice possible.

I nodded my head and replied, "What's going on , dad?"

Before speaking my dad took a quick breath before speaking. "Sweetheart, Brad was evolved in an accident not to long after he dropped you off. He was heading down main street when a car clipped the back of his bike and caused him to flip off. He wasn't that badly injured at that point except for maybe a sore hip, but, as he was trying to get back to his bike he was hit by another car that was trying to pass and was thrown several feet down the road. I'm sorry sweetheart, but he didn't make it. He died on impact."

The words my father had said were nothing but a blur to me and nothing seemed real. I mean earlier I had been spending a wonderful time with the love of my life and now he's gone. Lost to me forever. I stood from the couch and ran from the living room and into my bedroom and locked the door behind me.

I climbed onto my bed and got underneath my comforter and snuggled close to the stuffed panda that Brad had won for me at the last carnival that we had went to, and cried until I couldn't cry anymore.

After his death it had took me months to even feel like myself again. During those months I had blocked myself off from my family and friends. And even I had to force myself to attend Brad's funeral. That day at his funeral I was allowed to sit in the front row with his parents. His parents' had decided to have a closed casket service for him and I was kind of glad in a way as I wanted to remember him in better times.

A few months after his funeral I started taking criminal law classes in high school and started becoming more interested in learning more about cold case murders and about how they were solved, I was interested in the judicial system and how it worked. I loved the idea about being able to help people and being able to bring them closer. From then on I had decided that I wanted to become a cop and as soon as I graduated from high school I applied with the local police department and then was sent to a police academy for training.

-Present Day, 21-weeks later.-

Today was finally the day, that I was going to get to see my dream being finally accomplished, today I am finally going to be considered a police officer for the Lakewood County Police Department. As I sat on my bed happily thinking about my graduation that was going to be happening in a less than two hours.

Getting off my bed I went over to my closet and pulled out my uniform and hat that I was going to be wearing and placed the bagged uniform on my bed before going over to my dresser and pulling out a pair of solid white gloves that went with my uniform and placing them with my other things.

I quickly grabbed my clothing and headed into the bathroom and took a quick hot shower. After getting out I grabbed my electric hair brush and plugged it into the outlet before heading back into my bedroom so that I could let the brush heat up while I put on my socks and shoes.

As soon as I stepped into the bedroom I heard the sound of my doorbell chiming. I quickly rushed into the hallway and peeped out the little peephole that was in my wooden front door and noticed that it was my parents.

Opening the door my mother pulled me into a tight hug and then kissed me on top of my head, before she spoke.

"You don't know how proud your father and I are of you. Congratulations!" She said with a sweet smile before releasing me so that my father could hug me, he to congratulating me as well.

With our hug fest complete and my parents going into the living room. I went back to my bedroom and closed the door and walked over to my bed and noticed that I had thirty minutes to quickly put on my shoes and fix my hair before heading back into the living room.

As soon as I got into the living room I noticed that their was a big package sitting on top of my coffee table, turning my sight from the package I looked over to my father before speaking.

"What's this?" I asked curiously.

I watched as my father winked at me and then spoke. "Why don't you open it and find out."

I quickly walked over and grabbed the package that was wrapped neatly in red paper, quickly unwrapped it and cut through the tape on the large box with my pocket knife. As soon as I pulled away the tissue paper that was covering it. I noticed that it was a quilt that was made by my late grandmother. The one quilt that she had made for me, that I had never got.

I immediately pulled it out of the box and looked over to my parents. "How did you manage to get this quilt from Aunt Beth? I thought she said that she wasn't going to give it to anyone?"

Noticing my surprised face my mother smiled. "Well dear, I talked things over with her and she agreed that it wasn't her's to keep. So, we picked it up from her last night and wrapped it up for you, for your graduation present. I hope you love it?"

"Oh, I do. Thank you. I'll call Aunt Beth tonight and thank her as well." I said happily. Before hearing my father clear his throat.

"Well, I think it's time that we got a move on or you are going to be late." He said as she stood from where he was sitting.

I nodded my head, then quickly folded up the quilt and placed it in the chair that was next to me. Before putting my hat on and grabbing my gloves and purse from the kitchen counter and following my parents out the door, locking it on my way out.

After getting into my father's SUV we made the short drive to the Lakewood High School where the graduation was being held. Once we arrived I quickly got out and went inside the school, leaving my purse behind with my mother. As soon as I got inside I noticed that everyone was being lined up to head outside to where the graduation was going to be at on the school's football field.

I quickly rushed and got in line and put my gloves on before one of the trainers noticed me. As we marched outside I couldn't help but think that Brad was kind of watching over me and was looking down on this moment happily.

Once outside we were lead towards where our chairs were placed and filed in and took our seats. Before sitting down I picked up the pamphlet that was sitting in my chair and started reading it as I sat down. While I was engrossed in my reading I felt a slight nudge against my shoulder. I turned to my side to see that I was sitting beside my training buddy, Cheyenne Bell.

Her bright smile always warmed my heart. She has always been a kind and true friend to me and she has always been the life of any party that we went to. I watched as she leaned over and gave me a big hug before speaking.

"So, you ready to finally become what we have been training for?" She said as she twisted a strand of her bright red hair that was coming out her bun.

"Yup. I've been more than ready for this day." I replied cheerfully.

"Oh, yea, a couple of use are going out for drinks after this. Would you like to go with us?" She asked curiously.

"Sure. I don't see why not. I don't have anything else planned." I said before noticing that the Lakewood county police chief walking towards the podium.

Not wanting to get in trouble we stopped talking and looked towards where the police chief was standing in front of the podium on the stage and then began to speak.

"Welcome, everyone to the Lakewood county police academy graduation, ladies and gentlemen. We are pleased to have you all with us. Now without further ado. We would now like to start the graduation."

We all listened to him speak for about thirty minutes before he finally told us that we were now officially police officers. After everything was over I walked with Cheyenne towards where my parents were standing and talking to two men who were in black business suits. As soon as we got close to them the men immediately stopped talking to my parents and turned to where we were now standing and looked at me.

"Are you Stella Hansen?" One of the men asked.

"Yes, sir. I am. What can I help you with?" I asked.

The other man who was slightly shorter than the other began to speak. "We have something rather important to speak to you about. Would it be okay if we talked to you in private over there." He said as he pointed towards stage.

"Sure that will be fine." I said with a nod of my head and followed the two men over to the stage where the police trainers were leaving from.

Once at the stage the two men stopped and turned to me before one of them began to speak again. "My name is Agent Rick Miller and I would like to inform you that you have been offered a special job working for the FBI."

Not really believing what I was hearing I slightly shook my head and looked back at him. "Huh? What do you mean special job offer. I just graduated from the police academy today so that I can start working for the police department in this county. And I don't remember putting in an application with the FBI. So how could I possibly be getting a job offer from you guys?"

I heard the other man that was standing beside him chuckle and then replied. "You didn't put in a job application. You were randomly selected by the FBI three weeks before your graduation."

"Well then I'm sorry to tell you Agent Miller and whoever you are. But I can't take this job offer I'm sorry about that." I said still feeling slightly confused by this whole conversation as I started to walk away from them.

As soon as I got a couple of inches from them I heard one of them clear their throat then began to speak again. "Well, I'm sorry to inform you that this is a job that you can't refuse. In fact, you no longer have a job with the police department. Now, if you will please come with us we will discuss with you at the FBI office what your special job is."

Feeling slightly angered by the situation I turned and replied. "Well, what about if I don't want to leave with you two?"

"You have no choice in this matter. Now, please come with us calmly and this situation will be solved. I mean you don't want to cause a scene now do you?" The shorter man asked with a smirk.

Noticing that there was some of the trainers and a few other people staring at me I quickly turned back to them. "Fine. I'll go with you two. But if this is some kind of set up just know that I will kick both of your asses."

With a quick nod of their heads in understanding I followed the two men out of the football field and into their vehicle and headed to where I would soon find out about my fate.
