THE SHOW MUST GO ON

It was the end of Natalia's first day of Junior year of High School, she was sat in the nurse's office with a bloody plug up her nose.

"I'm pretty much like everyone else, you know? Life's been pretty normal for me. I get by with average grades, not many friends, and a decent family. My Mami, Rosa Diaz, is a gorgeous badass private investigator who fell in love with and married my other Mom, Y/N Y/L/N, who is an immature, fun-loving Detective. It's a long story, but the two are complete opposites which makes them perfect for each other. Anyway, we moved to Brooklyn for my Mom who is transferring back to the Nine-Nine--"

"I don't need your whole life story, hun. Just tell me what happened today." The nurse interrupted.

Natalia sensed the nurse's impatience before continuing, "Okay, well, I was doing great up until I met her. We were good one minute, and the next minute, she ruined everything!" Natalia groaned.

"Just start from the beginning," the nurse insisted.

~

Seven hours before, Natalia stood in front of her mirror, examining her reflection. Her long, dark curly hair was neatly styled. She adjusted her mood ring and straightened her leather jacket,  "Nat, hurry up! You're going to be late for your first day," Y/N called from the kitchen.

"Okay, okay." She muttered, grabbing her phone, headphones, and her bag before heading down the hallway.

~

In the kitchen, Y/N was making breakfast as Rosa was sipping her coffee at the kitchen table when Natalia wandered into the room, "Morning, Mija," Rosa grumbled.

"Morning," Natalia replied, her voice slightly shaky as she approached the kitchen table.

"Alright, who is excited for their first day of Junior year?" Y/N exclaimed in her usual childish charm.

Natalia's eyes widened at Y/N's enthusiasm as her nervousness was momentarily forgotten, "I am!" She remarked, attempting to match Y/N's tone.

"Oh, you sure?" Y/N noticed her daughter's uneasiness.

Natalia nodded, a nervous smile playing on her lips, "Yeah, just first-day jitters, I guess." She waved it off before taking a seat. "How did you get that?"

"Well, I'm somewhat of a detective myself, you know?" Y/N cocked an eyebrow before going back to making breakfast.

Rosa's lips curled into a rare smile at Y/N's comment, "Mija, it's apparently normal to feel nervous," Her gaze shifting to her daughter. "But you'll crush it." Her voice was steady. "And if it goes sideways, just punch 'em in the face," she added, deadpan.

Y/N's face dropped, "Wow, wow, wow." She cautioned. "Don't do that." She alerted with her hands. "What you can do is--" She started with her advice.

"Slap them." Rosa cut the woman off, her gaze remained the same. Before Y/N could open her mouth with another response, Rosa continued, "Or, even better, kick them. Right in the knee." Her eyes narrowed.

"Wait— no!" Y/N attempted to interject.

"In the knee?" Natalia repeated, her forehead creased in confusion as she spoke over the top of her Mom.

"Yeah. That's my girl," Rosa affirmed, nodding approvingly as Natalia seemed to understand.

"I— Alright, I give up," Y/N conceded, throwing her hands up in defeat. "Here is your non-violent pancake." She placed breakfast in front of her daughter.

Natalia smiled before reaching for the sprinkles, whipped cream, and syrup.

~

With breakfast out of the way, Natalia was finally ready for her first day at her new school, "Bye, love you, bug!" Y/N called out before closing the door behind her with a sigh of relief. "Man, she is just like a bitter old man... except she's a teenage girl," She remarked. "I blame you," She added with a playful smile, pointing to Rosa.

"What the hell, why? I'm adorable," Rosa crossed her arms over her chest.

Y/N snickered, "Yeah, sure." She placed her hands on her hips. "Right, now, can you help me organize my stuff?" She insisted, signaling to the multiple boxes in their living room.

"Dude, why do you have so many boxes? You're going back to the Nine-Nine, not going on a trip," Rosa said bluntly.

"Yeah, a trip down memory lane, that's for sure!" Y/N beamed. "I have everything prepared. In these boxes, I have my original nameplate, a bunch of trinkets to clutter my desk up, and most importantly, a picture of the original Nine-Nine squad!" She exclaimed with a grin.

"Ha! You are such a dork," Rosa teased.

"Thank you," Y/N responded, navigating her way through her boxes and to Rosa. "Now where to start." She tapped her lip in thought, studying the boxes.

Rosa smiled warmly at her wife before tucking a strand of hair behind Y/N's ear, catching the detective's attention. They gazed at each other. At that same moment, Rosa planted a soft kiss on Y/N's forehead, causing her cheeks to turn a pinkish-reddish tone, "You missed." Y/N teased.

Rosa rolled her eyes before lifting Y/N's chin with her thumb. Their lips met in the middle, the kiss was soft and sweet, "Better?"

Y/N drew her teeth over her bottom lip, "Yeah." She stated, giddily.

Rosa's mouth crepted into a smile, "Good."

Y/N stepped back to her boxes with a smile of anticipation on her face, "Man, I'm so excited to be back at the Nine-Nine. I just know it's gonna be the exact same!"

~

"This is not the exact same!" Y/N stood in front of the elevator as she looked upon the new Nine-Nine bullpen.

~

Meanwhile, Natalia slung her backpack over one shoulder, trying to weave her way through the crowded hallway. The walls were covered in colorful posters, each one competing for attention. One in particular, for the media club, caught her eye. She paused and signed up.

As she continued down the hallway, the chaos around her was impossible to miss. Students rushed past, bumping into each other, dropping books, and one particularly clumsy kid tripped over their own feet, sprawling onto the floor. Nat stifled a laugh.

Just then, the intercom crackled to life, and the principal's voice boomed through the halls. "Good morning, students! Welcome back to Brooklyn Nine High. I hope you all had a fantastic summer. I'd like to invite all new students to my office. Thank you." The intercom clicked off.

With a sigh, Nat adjusted her backpack and started making her way toward the principal's office.

~

Meanwhile, over at the precinct, Y/N stood in front of the elevator, overlooking the bullpen. Everything had changed. The desk arrangement was different, the kitchen had a new fridge, and new staff were seated at their old desks.

As she scanned the room, her eyes landed on Charles Boyle, who was busy organizing files at his desk. Y/N approached him, it had been years since they last saw each other, "Charles!" Y/N exclaimed, unable to contain her excitement.

Charles looked up, "Y/N! I can't believe it's you!" His face broke into a smile.

They embraced, both feeling the warmth of their friendship relight, "How have you been? I see you have gone blonde, very cool." She motioned to Charles' new do.

"Yeah, I know. Decided to go streaking now that I'm a cool dad." Charles shrugged.

"Streaking?"

"Yeah, that's what my dad and I used to call getting blonde streaks in your hair. We used to do it to our ponytails on road trips. Now I do it with my kid." Charles explained. "You just take a little lemon up top, and let the sun do the rest." He raked his hands through his hair. "We called it giving each other road head." He added.

"Oh." Y/N's head tilted to the side, puzzled at his explanation. "Yeah, I missed you, bud." She chuckled.

"I've missed you too," Charles replied. "It's so great to have you back at the Nine-Nine."

"Yeah, it feels so strange, everything's changed," Y/N said whilst looking around the bullpen. "Oh, hey, looks like some things haven't changed, my desk is still in the same spot."

"Oh, I wouldn't sit there," Charles cautioned. "Someone left a bag of gummy bears unattended for too long, and now it's swarmed with ants!" His revealed. "We don't know who did it."

Y/N shuffled awkwardly, a guilty look crossing their face, "Why would someone leave gummy bears unintended? They are so delicious and you can squeeze them into different shapes and pretend they're little crime-fighting bears." She chuckled uncomfortably as Captain Terry Jeffords entered the bullpen.

A smile spread across Terry's face as he caught sight of Y/N, "Y/L/N! It's great to have you back!" His voice filled with happiness as he walked over and hugged the woman.

Y/N returned the hug, "It's good to be back, Captain."

Terry stepped back with his smile still wide, "How is everything, how is Diaz?"

Y/N's heart skipped a beat at the mention of Rosa, "Oh, where do I start--" Her cheeks flushed a reddish-pinkish tone.

"Just in general."

"Oh, she's great," Y/N summarized, disappointed she could not rave about her wife.

"Terry's happy to hear." Terry bobbed his head. "Anyway, It's great to have you back, Y/L/N, I'll let you settle in." He suggested.

"Thanks." Y/N nodded with acknowledgment as Terry strolled over to another detective. "Alright, I'm back baby! Let's find me a desk. Okay..." Her eyes darted around the room for a free desk, before they locked onto a photo frame on Charles' desk, "Aw, Charles, is that your kid?"

"Oh, no, that's Jake's kid."

"Oh." Y/N paused, processing the information.

~

Whilst, Y/N and Charles reunited, Nat sat in the principal's office, as a stern-looking woman with glasses, sat behind her desk, reviewing Natalia's records, "Welcome to Brooklyn Nine High, Miss Diaz," The principal welcomed. "We're glad to have you here."

"Thank you." Natalia nodded trying to offer a polite smile as she sat awkwardly in the chair, her posture stiff. She hugged her leg to her chest.

Just then, there was a knock on the door, and a student entered, "Principal Wood, you wanted to see me?" The student had a friendly smile that seemed to light up the room.

"Ah, yes. Thank you for coming, Mac," Principal Wood said as she invited the boy in. "This is Natalia Diaz. She's our new student from Philly, she'll be your show-around buddy for the day." She introduced the pair.

"Hi," Natalia greeted Mac with a small smile. She felt relieved to have someone to show her the ropes, even if she wouldn't admit it out loud. "Nice to meet you!" Her tone changed to a cheerful one.

"Nice to meet you too!" Mac beamed as he held a binder in one hand and a skateboard in the other. "Cool jacket." He studied Natalia's leather jacket.

"Thanks, dope skateboard." Natalia motioned to the board.

As Mac and Natalia exchanged compliments, a sense of friendship began to form between them.

Principal Wood watched the interaction with a small smile, she was satisfied that her pairing had succeeded.

"Alright. Ready to dive into the world of high school adventures, Nat?" Mac asked.

"Hell yeah. Lead the way, dude!" Natalia exclaimed.

~

Whilst, Natalia and Mac were off on their high school adventure, Y/N sat beside Charles noting the new faces among the detectives around the briefing room as they awaited for Terry to arrive, "Oh, boy these young detectives look like they're mean business." Y/N glanced at the squad.

"Yeah, they're all pretty nice. Detective Wilson, over there used to work in narcotics," Charles whispered to Y/N, nodding towards the group of unfamiliar faces.

"Oh, my, wow-ie," Y/N muttered in amazement as Terry entered the room.

The detectives fell silent, "Alright, squad, listen up!" Terry called out. "I've got a stack of cases here that need our attention. We've got a missing person, a stolen car, and a noise complaint. So pair up and get to work. Wilson, you're with Spence. Schneider, you're with Fitzgerald, and Pepper you're with Robinson." He handed out the cases to the seated detectives before strolling over to Y/N and Charles at the back.

"What's our case, Captain?" Charles couldn't hold in his excitement.

Terry handed Y/N and Charles a case file, "You two are on street monitoring duty," He said, pointing to the details in the file.

Charles's excitement faded as he and Y/N exchanged a look, "Street monitoring?" He questioned since he usually got interesting cases.

"Yes, street monitoring, Boyle. You and Y/L/N are on street monitoring duty. I know it's not the most thrilling assignment, but it's crucial. We need to stay vigilant out there." Terry explained, firmly.

"Can't we do something cool, like a drug bust or a murder? Ooh, or even a stakeout!" Y/N's voice was filled with her childlike excitement.

Terry paused, his expression straightened, "No tackling tough cases anymore. I need you two to focus on the basics. We're not as young as we used to be, and I want you both safe out there." He revealed his concern.

Y/N nodded slowly, disappointed, "Okay. Fair enough."

"Okay, Captain." Charles' face deflated.

"Great. I knew you guys would understand." Terry smiled before returning to the front podium.

Y/N sighed, turning to Charles, "Man, wouldn't Hitchcock and Scully usually get these kinda cases?" She recalled.

"Yeah. But they retired long ago. There is no Hitchcock and Scully here anymore." Charles stated before a wave of realization washed over him. "Wait! Does this mean... we're the new Hitchcock and Scully?" His eyes widened.

Y/N's face dropped, "Oh, no." She realized. "We're the new Hitchcock and Scully!" She wailed, her voice echoing Charles' sentiment.

~

Nat followed Mac through the school halls, taking in the sights and sounds of her new environment, "Alright, Nat, buckle up because you're about to experience the tour of a lifetime." Mac exclaimed, finger gunning.

"How exciting can it be?" Natalia raised a brow.

"Oh, you have no idea," Mac replied, undeterred. "First stop, the trophy case!" He gestured dramatically to a glass display filled with trophies and awards. "This is where the school keeps all its shiny trophies and plaques. Pretty cool, right?"

Natalia bobbed her head, "Very shiny."

The pair continued the tour, Mac showed Natalia the gymnasium, the locker rooms, and even the janitor's closet, which he claimed was the 'most underrated spot in the school'.

As they proceeded the tour as Mac sparked up the conversation, "Anyways, tell me about Philidelphia. What are you into?"

"Me? uh, a lot of stuff." Natalia hesitated in thought. "School. School is a big one." She nodded, pursing her lips. "I ran the school's procrastination club." She finally thought of something interesting to bring up.

"Lucky, how was that?"

"Bad. I had to keep postponing it because no one showed up."

"That's rough. I used to run the school's sleep club and let me tell you, getting people to wake up was a challenge. But hey, at least you tried, right?" He put a positive spin on the topic.

"Yeah, I guess," Natalia replied as the school bell rang, signaling the start of recess.

~

Back with Y/N and Charles, they were sat in their police car, parked on a quiet street, looking bored. Charles munched on a bag of chips whilst YN flipped through the radio stations, "Charles, this is the worst. Street monitoring? We're not babysitters." Y/N sighed as she turned the radio off.

"I know, right? It's like Terry thinks we can't handle the real action anymore." Charles crunched on a chip.

"Exactly, we're big kids we can handle ourselves out here. We're not Hitchcock and Scully, we're detectives Y/L/N and Detective Boyle. We deserve a real case, something thrilling." Y/N beamed with a hopeful grin on her face.

"Yeah, something that gets our undies in a twist."

"Oh, I don't know if that's the saying, bud." Y/N drew her teeth over her lower lip, puzzled.

Charles continued, undeterred, "We gotta get a case that gets our adrenaline pumping... like that time I got shot in the butt!" He reminded the woman. "Now that was a rush," He added, his eyes wider than usual.

"Oh, yeah! And the Pontiac Bandit?" Y/N stated with a reminiscent smile tugging at her lips. "Those were the good days." She chuckled.

Charles nodded swiftly, "Oh! And what about the time we went undercover at Nutriboom?"

"Oh man, Nutriboom! I remember that." Y/N finger gunned back.

Charles chuckled, "Yeah, I lost so much money to them." A brief silence followed as they both reminisced about their fond memories of the Nine-Nine, the monotony of their current assignment contrasting sharply. Y/N couldn't help but smile, remembering the excitement of working with the squad. Charles' expression softened. "Yeah," His face dropped further as he remembered they were still stuck on street monitoring duty. "But, how do we get the cool cases?"

"We wait."

~

Backs with the tour continuing, Mac and Nat reached the cafeteria, where students were gathered, chatting and laughing within their groups, "And this, my friend, is where the magic happens," Mac's voice filled with excitement as he showed off the school cafeteria.

"There are sure a lot of people here. What one is your group?" Natalia examined the room.

Mac grinned, scanning the cafeteria before pointing to a table in the corner, "Over there," He pointed to a table where two students were sitting.

"I see. Tell me about them."

"Okay. First, we have, Darcy Boyle." Mac signaled to the respected student. "They're a grinder, not the most brilliant but they work harder than anyone at this school, you can usually find them in the art room painting or making paper mache sculptures." He motioned to the short student.

~

In the art room, Darcy carefully molded a lump of clay, their hands expertly shaping it into a beautiful sculpture. However, as they applied too much pressure, the sculpture collapsed under their touch, leaving them staring in dismay at the squashed artwork, "Oh, come on!" They grumbled.

~

"Alright, moving on, secondly, is my younger sister, Luna Peralta, she is highly organized and super ambitious with a competitive streak and a deep love for her job as the debate captain." Mac signaled to the girl who was writing out palm cards.

~

Luna was in the principal's office, organizing the woman's desk. With precision, she arranged the files and stationery, making sure everything was in its place. She then pulled out her binder, she checked off a dot point on her to-do list before giving herself a skittle as a reward.

~

Back in the present day, Mac continued, "And lastly, we have my girlfriend, Tyler Holt, who is off at her French class. You'll meet her later." He added.

"Wow, that was nicely said." Natalia marveled at Mac's work. "You have a small group," She added.

"Yeah, we're not popular in the slightest," Mac joked with a casual shrug.

Natalia chuckled, "Good, popular people suck."

The pair made their way to the table, where the pair of students was chatting and eating. Mac cleared his throat to get their attention, "Hey, I'd like to introduce you to my new friend, Nat," Mac announced, gesturing to the girl beside him. "She's from Philidelphia."

The two turned to look at Natalia, their expressions varying from curiosity to surprise. Darcy was the first to speak up, "Hi, Nat! I'm Darcy, it's a pleasure to meet you. I hear that it's always sunny in Philidelphia." They beamed.

"Hey, you bet," Natalia said, acknowledging everyone's presence at the table.

"Hey, I'm Luna," Luna greeted, shaking Nat's hand with a friendly smile. "Any friend of my brothers is a friend of mine."

"Thanks," Nat acknowledged Luna's statement before taking a seat at the table.

"So, how was everyone's summer?" Mac asked. "Did you all have any exciting adventures?" He took out his lunch, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

"My dad and I went on a road trip. It was great, we dyed each other's hair blonde," Darcy explained, a smile playing on their lips as they showed off their new hair color.

"I see, very bold!" Mac marveled at the new choice of hairdo. "What about you, Nat, any exciting summer stories?" He turned to Natalia.

Before Natalia could answer, a tall brunette appeared at the end of the table, his presence commanding attention, "What's up, nerds?" He exclaimed, interrupting the conversation with his usual flair. "I'm throwing a party this weekend, and you're all invited. It's gonna be legendary. There'll be music, dancing, and enough drama to last a lifetime. Don't miss out!" He flashed a dazzling smile before handing out the flyers.

"Oh, thanks." Mac grabbed a flyer, intrigued.

"Great, I'll get my dad to drop me off," Darcy exclaimed, eating a bean burrito.

"What? No parents!" Luna's face dropped. "Can I be a student chaperone?" She looked up hopefully.

"No way, boo, don't be a narc," The boy responded, causing Luna's expression to fall further with disappointment.

"But I am a NARC, a Nationally Accredited and Registered Chaperone," Luna quipped.

"Will there be food?" Natalia interjected, raising her hand.

"Of course, there will be food. Only the finest snacks for my guests. This party will be legendary, after all." He reminded. "Bye, losers." The boy ended before disappearing to the next table.

Natalia's brows furrowed, "Yikes, who was that?" She turned to Mac beside her.

"That was Gino Linetti, he's popular, confident, and has style. Gino is often off making grand entrance somewhere or indulges in his own unique sense of humor." Mac detailed.

"Oh, sweet." Natalia nodded, taking in the information.

"But on the bright side, his parties are always a blast. You in?" Mac's focus changed quickly as he was excited about the party.

"Yeah. I'm in," Natalia responded.

"Nice!"

With three out of the four group members excited about the party, they resumed their lunches. Nat crunched on her carrot sticks, Mac munched on his sandwich, and across from him, Darcy enjoyed their burrito whilst, Luna focused on writing on her study cards.

~

It was now later in the day, Nat strolled into her media club meeting. The room was filled with students buzzing with excitement for the film activities.

Nat took a seat at a desk, placed her feet up on the table as the meeting began, "Welcome, everyone, to our first media club meeting of the year!" The club supervisor stood up to address the group. "I'm Ms. Runck, your supervisor, and I'm so excited to see so many new faces here today..." Ms. Runck's voice trailed out of focus.

Nat's eyes wandered around the room as the club meeting unfolded. Her attention was drawn to a girl sitting up front. The brunette sat with impeccable posture, her back straight and shoulders square, her hands resting neatly on top of her folders. As the supervisor spoke, the girl turned slightly in her chair, her eyes following the woman's every move.

Nat couldn't help but admire the way the girl's lips pursed in concentration and the strand of hair that fell gently across her face. She felt a sudden jolt of attraction, her eyes widening, "Okay!" Ms. Runck clapped, snapping Nat out of her trance. "Let's start by picking partners."

~

With everyone paired up, Natalia found herself miraculously partnered with the mysterious brunette from the front of the class. It felt too good to be true like the 'friendship' goddesses were smiling down on her, rewarding her for her efforts, "Hi. I'm Nat." The woman greeted the girl with a huge smile.

"Interesting name. I like it." The brunette responded as she set the camera up.

"Thanks, I got it for my birthday," Natalia replied, awkwardly shifting in her spot.

"I'm sure," The girl cracked a smile as if she found Natalia's awkwardness endearing. "So, what brings you to the media club?" She looked away, tinkering at the camera settings.

"Oh, I have always had a passion for making films," Nat's eyes lit up. "Back in Philly, my friends and I used to make these ridiculous short films. We did one about us being mermaids, it was epic." She recalled.

~

Thirteen-year-old Natalia was filming her friend splash in her blow-up pool, "How does it look?" Her friend called out, taking her goggled off.

"Not good. I think we need more glitter." Natalia decided.

~

"So, cool." Nat shook her head in her reminiscent state. "So what kinda films are you interested in?" She questioned.

"Well, I do have a soft spot for classic films. The silent film era, old Hollywood films—they always manage to captivate me." She replied.

Natalia nodded enthusiastically, "Yeah. Nice choice." She added, knowing they had bonded over their love for film.

The brunette then looked away from the camera to grab her script as Nat decided to make herself useful and meticulously adjusted the camera to her liking, "What are you doing?" The brunette's brows furrowed in confusion as she watched Nat.

"Fixing the camera. What does it look like?" Natalia laughed, seemingly amused at first as she thought the other girl was joking.

"It looks like you're doing it incorrectly. The camera angle is completely askew." She snapped, which surprised Natalia.

Natalia's eyes narrowed, and her demeanor changed, "Excuse me? I am quite capable of handling this task alone." She insisted, raising her voice slightly.

"Clearly not. Allow me to demonstrate." The girl requested.

Natalia scoffed, "I prefer to handle this myself. Thanks."

The brunette stepped back, "Very well. However, do not come seeking assistance when the footage is subpar." Her brows twisted.

"I will not. And for your information, I find your methods to be lacking." Natalia pointed out, hand on her hip as she dug herself deeper into her grave.

The girl's expression tightened, "My methods are precise and effective. You, on the other hand, seem to lack the necessary finesse."

"Is that so?" Natalia lifted a brow. "I think you should attend to script writing and leave the camera matters to me." Her lips curled.

The brunette took a step forward, "I am more than capable of excelling in both areas simultaneously."

"Oh, really? How are you gonna do that?" Natalia folded her arms over her chest as she lifted a curious brow.

~

The two girls sat in the principal's office, Nat had a bloody plug up her nose, wincing in discomfort, whilst the brunette beside her held an icepack to her arm.

~

Back in the police car, Y/N and Charles had made up a new card game, using a mix of cards from different games they had on hand, "Go fish!" Y/N looked up from her cards.

Charles answered with a nod before taking a UNO card from the pile, his face lit up, "Oh! bingo!" He announced, slamming the cards down on the center console.

Y/N pursed her lips, she was defeated, "Wow! I gotta give it to you, Charles, that was a pretty creative move." She awed his tactics.

As Charles celebrated his win, a man burst out of a nearby store, clutching a bag filled with stolen items, "Oh! Y/N, look! That guy is making a run for it from the store!" He signaled.

Y/N leaned forward, "You're right! It looks like our luck is turning around, we have a case after all!" She thumps the air. "Thank you, gay Gods, thank you, Freddy Mercury." She looked to the sky.

They both burst out of the car, adrenaline pumping as they charged after the thief, "Yes! This is what we've been waiting for!" Charles wailed.

The pair bounded through the streets, they navigated obstacles with ease as their old training kicked in. Y/N's light-up shoes sparkled red and blue as she charged after the suspect, with Charles close behind. After a thrilling pursuit, they managed to corner the suspect, "You're under arrest for theft, punk!" Charles declared, handcuffing him.

"Yes!" Y/N puffed, hands on hips as she tried to catch her breath. She bent to her knees, "Wow, remind me to never run again."

~

Charles and Y/N swaggered confidently into the bullpen, pushing the perp ahead of them into the holding cell. They exchanged a high-five in celebration, "Woo! Nailed it!" Y/N declared.

"That was so cool! You should have seen the look on his face." Charles chuckled as Terry approached them with a smile, impressed by their teamwork.

"Fuck the cops!" The perp called from the holding cell.

"I d—" Y/N started.

"Hey, what's going on over here?" Terry interrupted, his brows furrowing together in curiosity.

"We just nailed a perp, Terry! Team Boyle-Y/N strikes again!" Charles responded, still in his celebratory state.

"Wow, good job, you too," Terry congratulated the two before glancing at the perp in the holding cell, his expression shifted as he recognized the man. His brows furrowed in concern, "Hey, that's..." Terry started, his voice trailing off as he recalled the perp's criminal record. "That's Steve Thompson! He's been hitting stores all around town," Terry exclaimed, his eyes widening in realization. "You guys got him!"

"Sticky fingers Steve!" Y/N remarked, naming the perp.

"Oh! The notorious shoplifter? This is huge!" Charles added, clearly excited by the prospect of catching such a well-known criminal.

Terry smiled, "Absolutely. Terry is impressed." He bobbed his head. "Now make sure we have all the evidence we need to put him away for good,"

"You got it!"

Terry's smile widened, "Wow, I feel like a proud mama hen. I underestimated you two," His voice filled with pride. "You guys are more than capable of handling tougher cases, I'm taking you off street monitoring." He decided.

Y/N beamed at Terry's words, feeling a swell of pride, "Really? Thank you, Captain! We won't let you down, sir." She finger gunned.

Charles' face lit up, "Yes! Thank you!" He exclaimed as a wide grin spread across his face. "You won't regret this!"

The pair high-fived again and with Terry's vote of confidence and the promise of a tougher case, Charles and Y/N set to work, eager to prove themselves, "We did it! Y/N and Charles are back in business!" Y/N celebrated.

"Yeah, look out Nine-Nine!" Charles cheered, overjoyed with excitement that they were off-street monitoring.

~

Meanwhile, back in the principal's office, tensions were high as the pair sat across from Principal Wood and Ms Rhunk who both looked sternly at the two girls, "Detention," Principal Wood declared. "Both of you. Starting tomorrow, after school, for the rest of the week."

Natalia and the brunette exchanged glances, both unhappy with the outcome, "And as a part of your detention, you two will be paired up to complete a film for our media club's end-of-semester showcase." Ms Rhunk detailed.

"Great," Natalia muttered under her breath.

"Terrific." The brunette replied, her tone deadpan before she cleared her throat. "I suppose we'll have to make the best of this situation. I suggest we proceed with professionalism." She proposed, shifting in her seat whilst adjusting the ice pack on her arm. "I'm Tyler Holt." She greeted.

A wave of nerves washed over Natalia as she realized she had punched Mac's girlfriend. Forcing a smile, she turned to face the girl and shook Tyler's hand, trying to keep her composure. Nat knew working together wouldn't be easy, "Oh, mama," She muttered.

~

It was now later in the afternoon, and Y/N's day had been a great success. She arrived home, kicking off her shoes and announcing her presence with a cheerful, "I'm home!" She closed the front door behind her.

"Welcome home. Do you want dinner or... do you want me?" Rosa's voice was low as a smirk playing on her lips.

"I'll have dinner."

"Dude, what the hell?" Rosa grumbled, disappointed. She had hoped for a different response from Y/N.

Y/N opened her arms, "Look, I love you, but you're being really gay right now." She responded, and Rosa replied with a small smile. "What's for dinner?"

"Pasta," Rosa answered as Nat stepped into the apartment. Nat's appearance caught their attention, and they both noticed the bloody tissue plugged up her nose. "What happened to your nose?" She asked with a hint of excitement in her voice.

"Oh, no, what happened to your nose?" Y/N's eyes widened in distress as she noticed the bloody tissue in Nat's nostril.

~

Y/N ushered her daughter to the sofa, her brows knotted with concern, "Natalia Wakanda Diaz. What happened?" Her tone dripped with stress.

"Dude, her middle name is Julia," Rosa reminded her wife as she casually sat on the other side of Nat.

"Alright, I never agreed to--" Y/N began.

"I got into a fight," Nat interjected with her confession. "There was this girl in my media club, we were fighting about who should control the camera, and she punched me." Her words tumbled out. "But don't worry, I punched her back." She added with a sense of guilt.

Y/N's face visibly dropped. Meanwhile, Rosa's smile widened, she was proud of her daughter, "Mija," She said, placing her hand on Nat's back.

"Yeah, go, hun, you got this, all you," Y/N chimed in, trying to offer some encouragement.

"I am so proud of you," Rosa said softly.

"Wow, I walked right into that one--" Y/N sat there, realizing her mistake in letting Rosa take the reins.

"Thanks, I hit her in the arm," Natalia said, smiling proudly at her triumphant hit.

"Hell yeah! But next time try aiming for her nose," Rosa remarked. "It's the most vulnerable area," She added, glancing up at Y/N for approval.

Y/N's eyes widened in surprise, caught off guard by Rosa's suggestion. She hesitated for a moment, her mind processing the situation, "Alright, nose shots it is. But hey, let's keep it cool, alright?" She nodded, coming around to the idea. She was still cautious, but she understood that Nat was just defending herself.

"Oh, of course, I'm cool like a cucumber!" Nat replied with a childlike charm.

Y/N's gaze softened, a smile tugging at her lips, "Now, that's my girl," She remarked, proud of Nat's spirit and how it mimicked her.

Nat nodded, her brows furrowed together in confusion, "Okay." She agreed trying to mirror her parents' confidence, even though she didn't fully understand their approval of her actions. "Right... I'm gonna go watch reruns of DuckTails now."

"Oh, a classic. Have fun," Y/N called out as Natalia wandered down the hallway and into her bedroom. As the door closed behind Nat, Rosa, and Y/N high-five triumphantly, "Wo! I say that worked out great!" She beamed proudly.

"Yeah, look at us!" Rosa agreed.

"We're such mature parents!" Y/N decided with a nod of amazement.

"Hell yeah, we're!" Rosa stated firmly. "Now, who's taking the pasta off?" Her tone changed.

The two women stared at each other, neither wanting to do the job. Y/N curled her lip, "How about we paper, scissors, rock it?" She suggested.

Rosa hesitated before eventually coming around to the idea, "Fine."

The pair got their fists ready, "Paper, scissors, rock. Shoot! " On 'shoot,' the two women gestured scissors with their hands.

"Again."

"Paper, scissors, rock. Shoot! " The women's hands mimicked scissors.

"Again."
