Chapter Twenty – Eight ~ Merlin, He’s a Git

Ginny was warm, very warm as she snuggled deeper into the bed she slept in, and she also felt safe; as if she were guarded from the world and all its trouble. She sighed as she tried to remember why she had woken up. It was the weekend, she didn’t have to head over to the Ministry and she shouldn’t been expecting anything from the Minister for a new assignment.

She kept her eyes closed as she tried to fall back asleep but it was useless. She was sighed again and then tried to roll over.

She suddenly found that she couldn’t. She tried again; nothing. Then she felt that arm that was holding her in place. She lifted the covers and almost screamed.

She was naked; very, very naked. As naked as she was the day she was bloody born.

And then she realized that the arm around her was pale and coated with blonde hair.

Immediately her mind went into a full out panic and her eyes widened when she felt the equally naked body behind her; her back to his chest.

“Bloody hell,” she whispered.

The man behind her tightened his arm around her and pulled her more against him. She felt something hard against her bum.

Holy sweet mother of all chocolate frogs, she cried as she stared at the wall in her line of sight. She recognized the room.

She didn’t do it. No way, she did that. There was no way that she would do it; her mind told her over and over again. The dark green walls, the black furniture, the impeccable room; sweet Merlin, it was so blasted obvious.

Panicking, she blinked herself to the foot of the bed and she cursed as her eyes landed on Draco Malfoy sleeping peacefully in the bed she had been in before, one arm position under the pillow and the other lying where she had been.

No, no, no, we did not shag; she told herself but everything was telling her they did. They had shagged and she didn’t even remember it.

“I slept with Draco Malfoy,” she whispered

She immediately began picking up all her clothes, quietly, so she wouldn’t wake him. She began to dress quickly.

When she was fully dressed, she stumbled to the side of the bed where Draco was. He looked so peaceful as he slept, angelic even. His white blonde hair falling into his eyes and his features calm, relaxed. She wondered how many women had seen him like this; she instantly hated the thought as jealousy reared its nasty head.

Ginny looked at him and Merlin, he was so breathtakingly beautiful. It tore her heart out to look at him. She wanted to be more than friends; wanted to whole thing with Draco Malfoy; the wedding, the house, the kids, the grandkids and all that crazy stuff. Ginny wanted it all from the man she loved.

She stiffened.

Ginny loved Draco Malfoy. She loved him so much but she was surprised she never realized it before but honestly, it would never work out for them.

It would never work; so she’d stop it before it did ended in more heartbreak than she could take.

Ginny bent down and brushed a lock of his white blonde hair out of his face. She gently kissed his forehead and whispered, “I love you, Draco,” then blinked on the spot.

~.~.~

Draco’s eyes shot opened when he realized that he was alone.

Ginny was gone.

His bed was unbelievably empty and cold.

Amazed that Ginny had disappeared right when she’d woken up, he sat up in bed and groaned. He had a bit of a hangover but he remembered it all; everything that Ginny and him had done and it filled him with desire as he just thought about it.

He had wanted to wake up and have another go before they spent the day together but he’d woken to an empty and cold bed.

Instantly he thought about what they’d talked about at dinner the night before. She wanted to just be friends. That’s what she thought she wanted but he knew different. He knew she wanted more; physically, at least. Emotionally, he didn’t even know what he wanted.

After he got her back and they talked about last night, he’d think more into what he thought and wanted from Ginevra Weasley.

~.~.~

Ginny was avoiding Draco. She knew it wasn’t very mature but she couldn’t help it. As the days had turned into weeks, her mind began to show her what had happened that night and sweet Merlin, they things they had done. There was no way she could face him after that; as she remembered, her body wanted more but she couldn’t. Especially because she loved him, loved him so much it hurt. And to know that there was no way Draco felt the same way about her, hurt even more; as if she was being torn apart inside and out.

Trying to push all that aside, she took another assignment from the Minister. At first when she had seen who it was, she felt bad but then she read why and she pushed aside her feels.

An hour later, Ginny was standing above the motionless body of Michael Corner and she smiled while that ever – knowing warm feeling overcame her body and settled; that self – satisfying feeling that accompanied the positive outcome of yet another successful job. She looked down at the parchment and crossed off the name. Simply thinking of the destination, she sent the letter mentally on its way to the Minister.

“…and that’s settled; rest in peace, dearest Michael.” She whispered to the lifeless body.

She blinked herself back to her apartment and pulled out her wand. She quietly muttered the deceased man’s name and the wall brightened momentarily.

She looked at her wall and smiled sadly.

M I C H A E L    C O R N E R

His name glowed for twenty minutes and she traced his name with her fingers. Michael Corner had been a really bad boy, if the recon that the Ministry did was correct. Nobody would believe that innocent Michael Corner was secretly a serial rapist. Not that there were many of those in the Wizarding World. A few women, and men, had come forward and told the authorities about the man.

Ginny bit her lip and silently thanked Merlin that she had never slept with Michael. She’d saved herself for Harry. They had slept together for the first time the summer before her seventh year at Hogwarts. What good sleeping with him did, Merlin only knows how long he had been shagging Hermione.

Ginny shook her head, trying to force away those upsetting thoughts.

She looked back at the list; the pain had gone long ago. Now she smiled at the satisfaction she felt over doing her job, being successfully perfect at it.

Ginny smiled as she laid back in bed and looked up at the ceiling, forcing herself once again not to think about a certain silvery – gray eyed man.

Later that afternoon, as she still laid in bed, Ginny suddenly felt her stomach recoil and bile rush up her throat. She rushed to the bathroom and for about the tenth time this week, Ginny found herself kneeling before her porcelain toilet and praying to whoever was listening. She laughed bitterly at her situation; this problem, this bloody problem that just kept getting worse day by sodding day.

She stood finally, defiantly staring down at the toilet and smirked.

“I’ve finally defeated this blasted –” she began before she dropped once again to her knees and emptied the nothingness inside her.

She cried, sobbed at the huge feeling of being alone she suddenly felt. As she cried, she begged whoever was listening to have pity on her and make this go away!

That night, she was lying on the couch reading her newest muggle historical romance novel when there was a knock at the door. She sighed as she got up and immediately swayed on her feet.

“Whoa…” she mumbled as she suddenly felt nauseous.

“Ginny?” A voice called out and she froze. She looked at the door, alarmed that he might come in. “Ginny, are you in there? We need to talk. About that night and you know I hate it when you avoid me.”

She closed her eyes, blinking herself downstairs into the backroom of WWW. She knew she shouldn’t avoid Draco but she didn’t want to talk about it. She was afraid and she knew it. She was being a coward.

“Gryffindors’ aren’t cowards, Ginny and you are being one bloody huge coward.” She told herself.

“Draco was just here looking for you.”

Ginny jumped up when she saw Luna leaning against the wall. “How long have you been standing there?” Ginny asked, hoping Luna didn’t hear her talking to herself.

“Ginny, don’t be blind to what is there for everyone to see.” Luna said as she turned around to leave the backroom. After a second, she turned back to look at Ginny, “and yes, avoiding Draco is very cowardly,” and with that, Luna disappeared behind the curtain.

Luna had just called her a coward and she was right; so damn right. Ginny just couldn’t help it. Not wanting to think any more about all of this, she decided that maybe she’d go see Ron. With that, she blinked her way over to the Burrow, where Ron was currently staying after his breakup with Hermione.

~.~.~

“What’s wrong?” Ron asked as Ginny sat at the table.

“What makes you think something is wrong?” She asked as she sipped on her tea.

“You’re running away from Malfoy aren’t you?” Ron asked.

Ginny eyebrows shot up in surprise, “what?”

“Malfoy came by earlier looking for you. Almost gave Dad a heart attack. He knocked and asked for you. Don’t know why he would do that; I know you two are friends but he’s never shown up here before. Had a row now, did ya?”

Ginny ignored his question, “why are you being so civil about Draco coming here? I thought you hated that we were friends.” She said suspiciously.

“I don’t hate him but Merlin, he’s a git. I just can’t help but want to beat him to a bloody pulp all the time.” Ron answered honestly, “plus he hasn’t been so bad to you. Better than Harry was.”

Ginny cringed as the memories exploded in her mind at the mention of her ex - boyfriend.

Harry bloody Potter, king of all royally screwed up arseholes.

“Yeah, Draco has been pretty decent. We’re not fighting. I just…well, we…” Ginny didn’t know how to explain it to anyone, let alone, Ron.

“You’re avoiding him. It’s not right to avoid a bloke, Ginny.” Ron reprimanded her.

“I know it’s not right. I just can’t face him after the other night,” she said without thinking about it.

“What happened the other night?” Ron asked suspiciously.

“What?” Ginny asked innocently.

“What happened – ” Ron was saying but Ginny cut him off.

“Ah, don’t worry about it. It’s between Draco and I,” she said standing up and deciding that she had enough of a nice chat with Ron.

But as she stood, that nauseous feeling she’d had of late immediately came up and she stumbled trying to relax herself so she would throw up and have Ron ask more questions.

“Are you okay?” Ron asked as he rushed to her side.

“Yes, yes, I’m fine.” Ginny said, brushing him away. “I have to go…go help Luna at the store.” She lied and ran out of the Burrow , outside the apparition wards and apparated instead of blinked because Ron was watching.
