Chapter Thirty - Two ~ Disown Me
It seemed like the world was over; well, Ginny's world at least. She laid in her bed staring up at the ceiling, both hands resting lightly on her baby bump. It's been months; months since Draco had walked out of her life.
She'd tried time after time to speak to him, to just see him. She missed him terribly but he wouldn't see her.
It hurt, Merlin, it hurt so damn bad.
She finally understood why he always hated it when she avoided him. Now, he was avoiding her and it was killing her.
She was lonely, so lonely.
She closed her eyes as a new onslaught of tears came, streaming down her cheeks. She didn't move to wipe them away. She kept both of her hands on her baby bump. Five months had passed, she was about six or seven months and her bump was getting pretty big but she could still hide it under loose and baggy clothing and luckily she hadn't had any assignments from Kingsley in months.
She sighed as she wondered what Draco would say if he knew he would be a father in soon. She bit her lip and decided that maybe she should owl him the news. He deserved to know.
With that thought, she sat up in bed and Accio-ed herself a parchment, ink and a quill. She stared down at the blank parchment and almost cried all over again.
"Bloody hormones," she complained as she dabbed the quill in the ink then began to write. After scribbling a few things down, she decided it was good enough. She read over one more time. It said:
Draco,
I know you must hate me now. I also now know what you meant all those times when you said you hated it when I avoided you.
It's horrible.
I'm lonely without you but I know why you won't talk to me or see me. But you have to understand that it wasn't what you thought.
I would never choose him over you. I need you. Please, please just come around.
If not for me...then for the baby that we'll be having together in a few months.
Love,
Ginny
She nodded to herself, even though she didn't think that was the best way to tell him he was going to be a father. But it had to do.
He wouldn't see her let alone speak to her.
This letter just had to work.
Ginny wanted to blink it to his apartment but she wasn't certain if he was there or not so she decided that to owl it would be the best.
She got out of bed and pulled on a pair of loose pants and Ron's old Chudley Cannons jersey. As she magically slipped on a pair of shoes, she looked around her apartment.
"Artemis," she called out when she didn't see the cat.
The gray cat came running over to her, rubbing against her legs. Ginny smiled as she sat on the couch, Artemis jumped up and Ginny began to pet her.
Artemis purred, and then meowed at her.
"I miss him too," Ginny whispered to her and decided that this letter was her best chance. It had to work. She stood from the couch and made her way to the door. She pulled on a cloak, stepped outside, muttered the incantations for the protective wards and walked down, more like wobbled, to WWW where she could borrow one of the owls that George sends orders out with.
When she entered WWW, George smiled at her from behind the counter. Luna looked up and smiled as well.
"Hello, Ginny." Luna's dreamy voice drifted towards Ginny.
"Hi, Luna, oh, George, I was wondering if I could use one of owls to send a letter." Ginny said.
George's eyebrows came together on his forehead as he frowned. "For personal use? Ginny you know that I don't like to -" George was saying until Luna cut him off.
"Sure, Ginny. Right this way." She smiled slightly as she held her arm out to her best friend.
"Luna!" George cried.
"It’s okay, George. I'll make it up to you later." She said which caused George to blush brightly as she turned her back and began to walk towards the curtain.
Ginny eyebrows shot up at that.
"I don't even want to know." She snickered as she followed Luna behind the curtain.
Luna walked her over to where the owls were held. There were over two dozen. Ginny grinned when she noticed a small gray one. The color was similar to Draco's eyes.
At that thought, Ginny sighed, immediately depressed over the fact that Draco still refused to see her.
"Is that for Draco?" Luna asked, pulling Ginny out of her thoughts.
"Oh - yeah. He won't see me, so I wrote him a letter." Ginny said.
"Did you tell him about the baby?" Luna whispered even though no one was around.
"In the letter. It's not like I could tell him since he won't speak to me." Ginny frowned, her eyes tearing up.
"It's just a misunderstanding, Ginny. He'll come around. Especially after he reads the letter." Luna smiled encouraging.
"It's been months. He hates me. Merlin, he must hate me so much." Her bottom lip trembled as a single tear slid down her cheek.
Luna took a step forward and brushed aside that tear, "It'll be okay. You'll see. Just be patient." She said as she patted her shoulder tenderly.
"Screw patience," Ginny whispered as she grabbed the owl and tied the scroll to its claw. She picked it up and said, "To Draco Malfoy, please," and then the owl disappeared out the window.
"I hope that works," Ginny whispered as Luna nodded. "Well, I'm heading back upstairs to mope and eat a lot. This bloody pregnancy has me eating so much."
"Okay, see you later. Remember, patience." Luna advised as Ginny snorted and blinked herself upstairs into her bedroom. She took off her shoes, removed her cloak and laid in bed. Her eyes were closed before she hit the pillow.
~.~.~
A gentle tapping against her window woke Ginny up. She rubbed her eyes as she sat up in bed. She stretched, reached for her wand and magically opened the window.
She was wide awake when she realized it was the gray owl she sent earlier. Her heart beat faster as she saw the owl fly towards her. She was nervous yet excited to see what Draco said even though she had kind of been hoping he would show up here.
But a response was better than nothing at all.
She brushed back her hair as she grabbed the letter. She closed her eyes, sighed nervously and then opened her eyes again.
And her heart literally broke in her chest.
Ginny was surprised she didn't just die on the spot. Tears spilled from her eyes onto the letter she was holding; sobs broke through her lips as she crumbled up the letter and angrily threw it across the bedroom. She threw herself back against the bed and just allowed her anger, fear and hurt to completely engulf her.
Draco Malfoy had been written on the front of the letter in her own handwriting.
He hadn't even opened it.
~.~.~
Draco sat at the dinner table at the Malfoy Manor with his mother. She was chatting about this and that. He wasn't really paying attention. His mind was still on the letter Ginny had sent him. Now, honestly, he felt horrible about sending it back without reading it but he thought it would be best if they kept their distance for a while longer.
Well, more for his benefit.
He couldn't seem to get her out of his mind. He kept seeing her wild, fiery red hair against his sheets; her chocolate brown eyes filled with passion or thick with laughter. She was constantly on his mind and no matter what he did, she wouldn't leave.
He even tried once or twice to see a woman but the moment he got close even to get a kiss, Ginny's smile would come to mind and he couldn't do it.
Ginny Weasley had screwed him up.
He couldn't even think about other women. She ruined him. But maybe over time, he'll get over her.
Even he didn't believe that.
"Draco, darling, you're not listening to me and that is extremely rude." Narcissa reprimanded her son.
Draco sighed deeply.
"My, that was a heavy sigh." Narcissa chuckled.
"It's nothing, mother, before you even say anything." Draco told her quickly.
"You shouldn't lie to your mother." Narcissa's eyes narrowed.
"Really, mother." He said.
She frowned as she cut her meat. She looked at him. Draco was a mess even though she would never tell him. His hair was messy, there were dark bags under his eyes and he looked as if he hadn't shaved in weeks. Her son was a heathen!
An idea immediately came to her mind. She knew what would help him. Pansy and Blaise had said that Draco had a soft spot for the Weasley girl. Maybe that would bring him up, she wondered.
"What ever happened to the Weasley girl, Draco? Why have I still not met her? Don't you think your mother has the right to meet the girl her son is infatuated with? It's hardly fair, considering all the time Pansy and Blaise always speak about her. I want you to invite her to tea tomorrow afternoon." Narcissa told her son but as she had gone on, she hadn't notice her son flinch.
"That's impossible, mother," was all Draco said.
"Why would that be impossible?" Narcissa asked confused.
"Because I said so," Draco said as he took a sip of wine.
"But, Draco -" Narcissa started to say but Draco stood up, slamming his hands against the table and growled.
"That's enough, mother. Stop bloody talking about her!" He yelled as he turned on his heels and all but ran out of the dining room.
Narcissa watched with wide eyes as he disappeared.
Draco never lifted his voice to her. He never cursed at her. He never was outright rude to her; never to her. Only to Lucius but he was locked away, rotting in Azkaban where he belonged.
She continued to stare where Draco walked off until a slight knock on the dining room door caught her attention.
Pansy and Blaise were standing there waiting for Narcissa to invite them to the table.
"Please, dears, come in. Have a drink and something to eat. I think we have much to speak about." Narcissa said as the two sat at the table.
~.~.~
Ginny was totally regretting her decision as she sat in the living room of her childhood home, where she spent so many years chasing after her older brothers, testing muggle things with her dad and attempting to cook with her mum.
But now she sat there; many years later to destroy her family's hope in her, break their happy hearts with her problems, her stupid decisions and the consequences.
Nervously, her parents, Percy, George and Ron sat in front of her, awaiting the important news that Ginny would bring.
They knew, though, that the news wasn't happy because of her anxious expression that made their hearts uneasy.
"What is it, Ginny?" Ron finally asked, unable to deal with the eerie silence.
"Not yet, I'll tell you when Bill and Charlie show up. Everyone has to be here. I only want to say it once." Ginny mumbled as she fidgeted on the couch she sat on alone.
Everyone was watching her nervously.
Molly at first had assumed Ginny was going to inform them about her newest fling. But now, well, now she was thoroughly frightened about what her youngest child was about to tell her.
"Bill can't make it. He took Fleur and Victoire to spend some time with Gabrielle and her parents. And Charlie is working. We'll tell them." Arthur told her.
With her family looking at her, Ginny nodded and then stood; she opened her mouth, ready to say it and then nothing. It wouldn't come out.
She tried again. Still nothing.
Finally; she took a deep breath and quickly said, "I'm pregnant."
For a moment, the five of them just stared at her oddly, as if she had said she could breathe fire like a dragon or had kissed a troll.
Then their expressions turned livid and surprised.
"You're what?" Molly screeched, jumping up off the couch.
"Pregnant, are you certain?" Percy asked eyes wide with shock.
"Oh shit," George whispered much to her astonishment. Luna didn't tell him.
"A baby?" Arthur mumbled as he stared at his baby girl.
"What!" Ron yelled.
Ginny bit her lip and nodded slightly.
"No," Molly said. Everyone turned to look at her.
"Are you certain?" Percy asked again.
Ginny nodded.
"You can't be." Arthur said as he stood up and looked at his daughter. "You're too young."
"I'm pregnant. I went to St. Mungos." Ginny whispered.
"No, no, no!" Molly yelled.
"I am, mum." Ginny said.
"Damn, Gin-bug. I was expecting something along the lines of you moving again." George said, shocked.
Ginny shook her head quickly. "I wish," she whispered.
"Is it Harry's?" Molly demanded.
That caught Ginny completely off guard. She shot a look at her mother and stared flabbergasted.
"Of course not!" Ginny answered angrily. As if she would sleep with that lying, cheating, slimy git. "Why would you think that?" she asked.
"Because you love him." Molly told her.
The room immediately grew surprisingly silent.
Ginny stared at her mother in shock. The woman had clearly lost her marbles.
"I don't love Harry, mum." Ginny told her as if explaining something to a child.
"Don't speak to me like that, Ginevra!" Molly yelled.
"Well, don't say stupid things." Ginny mumbled in response.
"Ginny!" Both Arthur and Molly yelled.
George snickered.
"If Harry isn't the father, then who is?" Arthur asked. He was still shocked that his baby girl was having a baby of her own. She was too young, way too young.
Ginny bit her tongue, refusing to answer. She had decided that when she told her family she was pregnant, she wouldn't say anything about Draco being the father. He obviously didn't want anything to do with her or their baby. But it was okay; she could do it on her own. She didn't need his help.
"I...I can't tell you." She told them and that set them off again.
"What?" All five of them yelled.
"Why the hell not?" Ron asked angrily as he slammed his fist against the couch.
"Because," She muttered.
"You have to tell us, Ginny." Arthur said.
"No," she said.
"Ginevra, now!" Molly yelled.
"I said no." Ginny's eyes narrowed.
"Why not?" George asked even though he had an idea of who the father might be.
"Because I don't want to tell you." She replied stubbornly.
"Ginevra, you tell us right now or else," Arthur's anger started to flare when he realized that Ginny wasn't going to really tell them.
"Or else what?" Ginny asked rebellious. She didn't want to tell them. She wasn't going to tell them. It was her business, her baby, her decision. Not theirs. Why couldn't they understand that?
"Or else you'll be -" Molly started to say but Arthur cut in.
"You'll be disowned." He said seriously.
Once again the living room fell silent.
It shocked them all that Arthur would threaten such a punishment on Ginny. Ginny was his baby girl, the apple of his eye, as the muggle saying went. He loved her, he spoiled her, and she was his only daughter out of his seven children.
He was never rough on her; her punishments were way more lenient then the boys' always.
The others looked between Ginny and Arthur, who stood watched each other; Ginny's brown eyes staring into his blue.
Neither backed down.
Ginny bit the inside of her mouth nervously but she knew she wouldn't break; she wouldn't tell them. She had already made her decision. She wouldn't tell them. She wouldn't tell them about Draco. They wouldn't like it; not that that really mattered to her. She didn't want to tell them because they would pester Draco to make her an honest woman, marry her and provide for both her and the baby.
She didn't want that.
She only wanted it if Draco wanted it and he obviously didn't.
So, Ginny put her foot down, figuratively speaking, stuck her stubborn chin out and shook her head.
"Then you'll have to disown me."
