S C A R L E T T 💣
We were in the lift now, and we were three minutes away from arriving at the third floor. The amount of anxiousness I was feeling was not normal, nor was it good for a situation like this. This wasn't me going on the X Factor or about to attend my SATs, this was me, about to take out about twenty plus men, without actually killing them. How the fuck was I supposed to do that?
"Would you stop tapping your foot? It's fucking annoying!" Blaze snapped at me, narrowing her cold eyes hard as I let out a groan and looked at her.
"I'm nervous okay?"
"That's not going to help in this situation, Lil Bitch. Just calm down and pretend this is just training," she advised me.
"I cant' just 'pretend' it's training! I have to kill people, which I've never actually done!" I retorted, an angry look flashing across my face. To my surprise, she started chuckling.
"You haven't killed anybody? God you're useless!" she laughed out loud, as if the thought amused her to an extent her stomach was hurting from her laughing.
"Not helping Blaze," I said through gritted teeth. My eyes glanced up to the screen above the elevator doors. We were now on the second floor.
"Okay okay. Listen, you don't have to kill anybody. I've heard you can knock people out with your martial arts skills, so just do that. Also, you've got those gadgets on your bracelets; just use those," she told me, and then went on about how to activate the gas-launchers and electricity dischargers.
"Thanks Blaze," I told her sincerely, somewhat surprised by how helpful she was actually being.
"Whatever, just don't die. I'm not going to protect you for your lover boy," she snickered, making me glare at her.
"But you will help me out if I need it, right?" I asked her hesitantly.
"As long as it goes both ways," she told me with a nod, making me sigh slightly in relief.
"Of course," I nodded, pulling my gun out of my holster and checking if it's loaded.
"We're close," Blaze noted, knowing that in exactly five seconds, the doors will fly open. "As soon as those doors open, you kill and run, don't stop running until they're knocked out, got it? Oh wait, you don't kill people," and with that she started laughing again, making my eyes roll.
Her laughter died down when the doors flew open. We immediately stepped out; Blaze raised her gun up, while I tucked mine into my holster. There was nobody down the hallways at the moment, unlike we expected. We moved quietly and swiftly. At the end of the hall, there were two other hallways on the left and the right, with a wall in the middle. We were to split up and clear out each side of the floor before meeting up in the end right next to the conference room.
We split up, Blaze taking the hallway on the right while I took the one on the left. I pressed my back against the wall, listening quietly to any voices from the hallway beside me. There were faint noises; I turned slightly to peer around the corner, spotting two tall athletically built men walking up and down the hallway. Grabbing two electric discharger disks, I spun around, walking down the hallway before sliding the discs on the ground.
The two men heard me walking, and the discs sliding. They didn't notice the discs approaching them on the ground, instead raised their guns to shoot at me. But before they could actually shoot, both discs hit their feet, causing electricity to visibly shoot up from the discs, electrocuting both the men. I watched them as their bodies jerked and they cried out loud, before dropping to the floor. I raced to the other side, knowing that the other men must've heard them yell.
I felt adrenaline rush through my veins as I stood at the head of the next hallway, watching three men spot me and rush towards me, pulling their guns out of their holsters. I reached for a gas-launcher, clutching the small circular ball in my hand before chucking it at them. It released a white smoky gas, causing them to cough and splutter as they tried to shoot me blindly. My feet thudded against the floor as I ran towards them; I swung my fist at the first man, sideswiping his jaw with my fist, hitting the nerve in it to knock him out.
His head snapped to the side, body falling to the floor with a massive thud. I immediately ducked down, instantly knowing someone had just swung their fist from behind me. I shot back up, spinning around to wrap my hands around the man's arms, twisting it sharply, causing a loud sickening 'pop' noise. He gasped and cried in pain, other hand coming up to strike me. I ducked down once again, before letting go of his arms. My hands spun him around, delivering a powerful kick to his thigh, causing him to grunt and drop down onto his knees. With a grunt, I swung my leg, my foot striking the back of his head, knocking him out cold.
I snapped my head upwards, before turning around to look for the third man. He was already lying on the floor, obviously knocked out by the gas, which strangely didn't affect me. I carried on running, knocking out people with just my hands and feet, putting pretty much everything I had learnt over the course of nine weeks, into action. Blood was rushing rapidly in my veins, adrenaline mixed in with it, as I kept moving, taking out the guards one by one.
I came to a screeching halt when I reached a door on my left; it was large and had a golden plate on the wall next to it, reading 'conference room'. This was supposedly the place where the exchange would be happening, I wasn't sure if Andrei was already in there or not, but right now I had to give the call that one side of the floor was clear.
"Damien?" I spoke into my wristwatch that apparently I could use to communicate with the others.
"Scarlett, what's up?"
"I cleared out my part of the floor, I'm not sure about Blaze, I'm going to check on her," I told him, breathing heavily as I tried to control my breathing.
"Good. Vlad, Harry and Seth are already on there way there," he told me.
"Okay, tell them to come through the left hallway instead of the right, just in case Blaze hasn't cleared out her part," I told him before I set off to find Blaze.
A couple of gunshots rang through the air, causing my blood to freeze all of a sudden. I started running, my feet thudding against the ground heavily as I sprinted down the hallways. I stopped abruptly at the head of one hallway when I spotted two figures fighting; it was Blaze and a very large bulky man. The man slammed his fist into Blaze's jaw, causing her to stumble back and fall to the floor. He pulled his gun out and aimed at her. In an instant, I pulled out my knife from my sheath, and chucked it at the man.
It cut through the air like a bullet, driving itself into the man's shoulder. He let out a loud shout of agony, his hand dropping the gun to clutch his bleeding shoulder, the force of the knife drove him backwards, causing him to lose his footing and fall to the ground. I immediately took the opportunity to race towards Blaze, grasping her upper arms and tugging her up to her feet. She groaned lightly, rubbing her jaw, still dazed by the strike.
"Are you okay?" I asked her breathlessly, my hands leaving her arms. She nodded slightly before her eyes grew wide and she parted her lips to yell something.
"Scarlett! Move!" she yelled, one hand pushing me to the side forcefully, while her other one reached for the gun in her belt.
I watched in horror as the man was now on his feet all of a sudden with a gun in his hands, and before we could do anything; he pulled the trigger trice. My heart plummeted to the floor when three shots rang in the air, all of them hitting Blaze's torso. A small shriek left my lips, my face paling in shock as Blaze managed to shoot her gun, the bullet hitting the man's skull instantly. Blaze looked down at her injure torso, before falling to the ground. I scrambled towards her body, my eyes frantically going over the three bullet wounds that were now bleeding profusely. My hands messily pressed against the wounds, trying to put pressure as I felt my eyes tear up.
"It's going to be okay Blaze you'll be fine," I spoke in an agitated tone, my words attempting to make me seem optimistic. I tried to keep myself calm but it wasn't working. Blaze was fucking dying.
"Ah shit, just fucking great," she groaned, her tone still sarcastic as she spluttered out her words with blood. "Scarlett, just...no," she groaned again, pushing my hands off her torso.
"No Blaze! We need to get you to a hospital, you'll be fine-"
"Don't be fucking stupid! I'm dying, bitch! Jesus Christ," she muttered under her breath, breathing heavily as her face grew incredibly pale while I watched her die. "Just let me die, for god's sake."
"Jade is going to kill me," I whimpered all of a sudden, my bloodstained hands lying limply on my lap now as I watched Blaze.
I couldn't feel anything but shock. This was all so sudden; the fact that Blaze had pretty much sacrificed her life for me was almost appalling. I felt no pain or sorrow, but I felt a hint of guilt. If I had been more careful, if I had killed the man; then Blaze would be able to live. Now, because of my cowardice, she was dying. I couldn't believe this was actually happening.
"She won't kill you, it's not your fault," she chuckled dryly, before her features slackened. "God I'll miss her. Tell her I love her would you? I never said it enough to her and now I regret tha-" she started coughing vigorously, her lips staining with blood as the life in her eyes started to drain.
"Of course," I said hurriedly, my voice breaking a little. "Why did you do that?" I asked her with teary eyes, referring to the fact that she practically sacrificed her life for me.
"Because..." she paused for a moment, I waited patiently for her to reply.
Only after a few seconds, I realized she was actually dead. Her icy blue irises were frozen still, looking lifeless as her hand slumped to the floor from its position on her midriff. A lone tear slid down my cheek when I moved my hand to shut her eyes. I cried silently for a minute, traumatized by Blaze's sudden death. The woman I resented sacrificed her life for me, even though she had no reason to, and that shocked me completely. I cried because this was the life of an assassin, anyone could die at any time, and after going through half of my first mission; I'm already dreading the rest of my cursed life. My father's legacy was legitimately a curse.
"Well isn't this tragic?" A sickly sweet voice spoke up from behind me, causing my heart to freeze and my crying to cease slightly.
I stood up slowly, turning around as I did so, and my breath got caught in my throat. There she stood, my mother. She looked so much like me; you could almost think that we were twins. Her long dark hair was very similar to mine, so was our facial features and body and etc. I was like a clone of hers. She stood there with Andrei by her side, and a couple of more devious looking men. I felt panic rise in my body as I spun around to see more men behind me. I was completely surrounded.
"Scarlett Jones, it's pleasure to finally meet you after so long," she said to me, her tone polite yet her decency made me scoff.
"I can't even look at you with him right beside you!" I spat in anger, narrowing my eyes as hate and enmity welled up in my heart, fury itself burning me up.
"Now now, is that the way to speak to your step-father?" she arched an eyebrow at me warningly, her words making my stomach lurch. She married Andrei?
"Step-father?" I gaped, my eyes snapping to Andrei who gave me a bittersweet smile, making my stomach twist uncomfortably. "That man isn't anything close to a father!" I exclaimed loudly, feeling my fists literally tremble with rage.
"'That man', is standing right here," Andrei spoke up; making my gaze, snap to his instantly.
Instead of feeling fear like I had expected, I felt rage. I was seething, absolutely vivid. The fact that my mother was now with Andrei; made me want to claw my own eyes out. I knew she was a spy for Black Arrow, but I never thought she'd be involved with Andrei. Didn't she love my father? I'm pretty sure she didn't plan on that when she was spying on The Organization. I don't think she would've planned the pregnancy either. Many different theories and questions floated around in my head as Andrei and I had a stare down.
"I wouldn't even consider you as a human being," I snarled at him, my dark eyes narrowing down to slits as I kept my hand hovering near my gun in my holster.
To escape from the current situation I was in, I needed to formulate a plan while trying to keep the conversation going. Keeping them distracted was easy, as I had countless questions that needed answering. The good thing was I was excellent at multi-tasking; I was halfway through thinking of a plan already.
"Wow you really are like him," Andrei chuckled maliciously, his reference to my father making me lose focus all of a sudden.
"Why did you kill him?" I questioned suddenly, my features stone cold and serious as I gazed at him, watching his features contort with slight anger.
"For revenge," he spoke through gritted teeth, trying to keep himself calm but it wasn't helping as he was continuously clenching and unclenching his jaw.
"Why? What did my father do to make you hold a grudge like this?" I asked him, almost not wanting to hear what he had to say because of the fear I had that my father had done something unforgivable.
"He murdered my entire family," Andrei spoke solemnly, his words shocking me completely. "I had two daughters, one was five and one was three. All dead, throats slit. It was horrifying," he spoke grimly, my mouth forming an 'O' as I tried to comprehend what he had just said.
I knew my father had done some bad things, but I never expected him to murder children. Freaking children. I didn't want to call him a monster since he was my father and I loved him, but unfortunately that's what he was; a monster. He may have been a loving and caring father to me, but he was also a cold-hearted murderer. The rational part of me was fighting, saying that he must've had some reason to kill those children. Maybe he was threatened or forced to do it by Ford. But what he did was unforgivable and ghastly.
"My wife, he burnt her, burnt the entire house down with her and my children. From that day onwards, I wanted revenge. I wanted him to suffer like I did. Sadly I only found out about you, after I had killed him. Otherwise, if I had known about you earlier, things would've been different," he snickered malevolently, his words creating some disturbing thoughts in my mind. Why did my mother marry this man?
"Do you see the psycho you're with?" I questioned her angrily, trying to make her realize that she's making a humongous mistake by being with him. "He's fucking crazy! He killed Dad! He killed your husband! The man you love, and you're fucking him?"
"I never loved your father, Scarlett," she snapped all of a sudden, her strong brows lowering over her dark narrowed eyes.
"W-What do you mean?"
"I never loved him. Yeah we had you, but that was never planned. The sex was great, you were just an accident," she laughed wickedly, her words striking something deep down inside of me, causing tears to prick at the back of my eyes.
"Now enough talk! It's almost twelve, the exchange will be happening soon," she said, but every word was just blocked out for me.
Her words were ringing in my ears. You were just an accident. I'd have never expected those words to hurt so much. I'm sure my father wouldn't have thought like that, but Jesus Christ my mother is such a bitch. She's not even a mother to be honest, she was never there for me, and now here she was saying I was just an accident. Yep she was definitely not a mother.
I was pulled out of my thoughts when I felt hands grab me roughly. I let out a sharp shout, thrashing my body around but the men grabbing me were too strong and there were too many. They ripped off my bracelets and my belt, leaving me defenseless except for my combat and martial arts skills. But before I could even use those, they bounded me with thick ropes, before forcing me to walk into the conference room where Cruz was supposedly already in.
"I'm sure Cruz will be thrilled to see you," Andrei walked up to me with a wicked smile. Seeing him up close like this made me want to vomit on his face because of all the extreme fear and anger I was feeling.
Where was Harry when I needed him the most?
