S C A R L E T T 💣
I was completely caught off guard when I felt Harry's soft lips on mine. My lips parted themselves slowly for his ones to fit into the gaps created perfectly, like a puzzle piece. My hands landed on his waist, feeling his sharp hips under the palms of my hands. His hands cradled my face gently, the heat of them searing through the skin of my cheeks as he did so. As he kissed me I felt as if all of my doubts had suddenly vanished, and before I know it he pulled away from me.
"That...umm wasn't meant to be...sexual," Harry stammered all of a sudden, as his hands retracted from my face.
"Uh yeah it's okay," I mumbled awkwardly, looking away from him uncomfortably.
"I just kissed you to-"
"Reassure me, yeah I know Harry and thank you for that. I'm happy that somebody actually believes in me," I said with a small smile, lifting my gaze to meet his. Deciding to surprise him, I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and pressed my body against his to give him a big hug. I could feel how tense his body was, it finally relaxed a little as and loosely wound his arms around my waist.
"You're so fucking weird," he grumbled, as I still didn't let go of him.
"It's weird to hug someone?" I arched a brow, pulling away from him.
"It's weird to hug me," he scowled at me, shifting awkwardly on his feet. I couldn't help but let out a small giggle at how awkward he was acting. "Why are you laughing?" he asked with a frown.
"You broke our promise," I chortled as he scowled.
"This was an exception okay?" he grumbled as I continued to laugh. "For real, this is the last time we kiss," he said as I ceased my laughter and nodded.
"Yeah yeah," I waved him off, walking away from him and towards the mess hall. "Let's go have dinner, I'm starved!" I exclaimed, leaving him there with a confused expression on his face. He's probably confused as to why I didn't kiss him back like I wanted the kiss to lead on to something else. He just needed to know I wasn't interested in him anymore, well at least not as much as before.
I entered the mess hall with an empty stomach growling for food. Once I had collected my food, my eyes scanned the room for a seat, hopefully next to someone I knew. They immediately landed on the empty one next to Harry but I held my ground. If I was going to stick to my resolution of resisting him, then I better start by avoiding him in the smallest ways possible.
I noticed the table I sat at when I first came here, with Louis and Dexter, empty so I quickly made my way towards it. Setting my tray full of delicious food down, I plopped myself down on the seat and immediately dug in. Tonight they were serving Italian, my favorite. As I dug into my scrumptious pasta, my mind wandered far. It wandered back to the nightmare I had. I had trouble figuring out whether it was actually Andrei who killed my father, because Harry was right. It's weird to see your Dad's murderer in your dream, unless you've met him before. But the thing is I've never met Andrei before, maybe when I was really little but the possibility of that was unlikely because I have a good memory.
"Hi Scarlett." A masculine voice pulled me out of my thoughts as I turned my head to lock eyes with a pair of pastel blue ones.
"Blake," I greeted him, returning the polite smile he shot me. "How's your leg?" I asked, eyeing it even though he was dressed in trousers and the bandage wasn't visible.
"Getting better," he shrugged as I stuffed more pasta into my mouth. He set his tray right beside mine and sat down next to me, nudging my elbow playfully. I shot him an amused smile and jabbed him in the ribs with my elbow, making him chuckle lightly. "Hey, I didn't get to thank you properly," he spoke up, causing me to gaze at him.
"Oh it's fine really," I shook my head with a smile.
"No seriously thank you. I just passed the course a month ago and I didn't know people were treated like this. I was warned about Harry but I never really listened properly," he laughed while I cracked a smile.
"He's a prick," I chuckled, stabbing my pasta with my fork.
"You got that right," he agreed, taking a bite of his pepperoni pizza. He caught me eyeing it hungrily and let out a small chuckle. "You want some?" he offered me a slice while I shook my head shyly with a smile. He dumped it on my tray anyways with a roll of his gorgeous eyes. "You're not like the others here," he said, staring forward while I glanced at him.
"Is that so?"
"Yeah, you're...different," he said, the corner of his lips tugging up in an alluring smile.
"In a good way or a bad way?" I asked with a short laugh.
"Definitely in a good way," he grinned at me, as I bit into my pizza. His azure eyes landed on my lips right at that moment. "Umm you've got a little something there," he muttered lowly, sticking the tip of his thumb into his mouth. After wetting it slightly, he brought it to the corner of my mouth, wiping what seemed like tomato sauce from the skin. My breath hitched in my throat and my lips parted slightly when he brought his tongue back to his lips, sucking on it before pulling out and smirking at me, all while holding eye contact with me. Holy shit.
"Blake?" a voice spoke up from behind us, breaking us both from the daze we were in. We spun around, locking gazes with slightly annoyed Louis and an angry Dexter. "What the fuck are you doing here?" Dexter asked with a scowl, his choice of words shocking me for a second.
"I'm just having dinner with Scarlett," he said in an innocent way making both of the boys scowl at him.
"Get outta here Blake," Dexter spat angrily at him, making Blake laugh at his sudden anger. Why were they so mad at Blake?
"That's not nice," Blake remarked with a hint of a smirk. It was like he was being playful with all of this, not surprised like I had expected him to be. Maybe they all had some bad history or something. Louis was going to say something, and by the looks of it, it wasn't going to be pretty. But Blake stopped him by raising his hands up in surrender. "Okay okay I'm leaving!" he exclaimed. "You guys are so uptight just move on already," he laughed as they both glared at him. Move on from what?
He stood with, taking his tray along with him before he gazed down at me. "I'll see you around Scarlett," he smirked, his right eyes dropping into a wink before he walked away.
My thoughts were all muddled up by what had just happened. But everything momentarily disappeared when I locked gazes with Harry who happened to be looking in our direction. I could detect a hint of...anger in his eyes. Was he watching Blake's encounter with me? Or the whole fight with Louis and Dex? If so why did he look sort of annoyed and angry?
"Dickhead," Louis muttered under his breath as I turned around. He jabbed at his chocolate cake in an angry manner with an upset frown on his face.
"Umm what just happened there?" I questioned the both of them, grabbing my water bottle before drinking its contents as I awaited their answer. "Well?" I asked them, gazing at Dexter who sat next to me before flitting my gaze to Louis.
"Blake is an arrogant, cocky, narcissist asshole," Louis said, his voice on edge with a nasty scowl on his face. I was taken back by the word he used to describe Blake. He certainly didn't seem like that a few minutes when he was talking to me. No wonder Louis and Dexter didn't agree to help me help him when he was injured.
"He didn't seem like that," I murmured, looking down from the harsh gaze I was getting from Louis.
"He's just trying to act all innocent and charming just to get into your pants Scarlett," Dexter told me, giving me a stern look as if warning me to watch myself. "Just stay away from him Scarlett," he pleaded gently, pouting at me as I rolled my eyes at them with an amused smile.
"Okay okay," I chuckled, picking up my unused spoon and sticking it into Louis cake. "I'll keep my distance," I said, shoveling a piece of his cake into my mouth with a smile as Louis glared at me playfully before a warm smile took over his features.
"Thank you," he smiled at me cheekily, sticking his spoon into his mouth before licking it in a childish manner. "We're only looking out for you Lettie," he said, giving me a thoughtful stare as his words warmed my heart. It was like God gave me two Spencers when I lost my own one.
"Thanks Lou and Dex," I smiled at them gratefully as they both returned it. "I really appreciate that you guys," I gazed at them with a hint of a smile as they looked down at their trays timidly with flushed cheeks. They were so adorable. "Anyways," I said, breaking the sudden awkwardness. "How was your day?"
"Alright I guess," Dex shrugged, looking away uncomfortably. I glanced at Louis and arched an eyebrow. Since when was Dexter uncomfortable with something?
"Dex got rejected by Ford's daughter," Louis chuckled quietly, while Dex glared at him.
"Aw," I cooed, ruffling Dexter's hair with one hand as he grumbled some incoherent words under his breath. "Any idea why she rejected you?" I asked, giving him a sympathetic gaze.
"Something about her wanting no distractions until she finishes the course. Also she's worried about what her father would say," he shrugged, a sad look flashing across his face. He looked really hurt to be rejected by the boss's daughter.
"I know what that feels like," I chuckled as I felt both of the boy's gazes fall upon me. "What?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at both of them.
"Tell us all about it!" Louis exclaimed loudly, causing a few people to glance at us in annoyance. "Is it someone here?" he asked excitedly, as I looked away with bright cheeks. "It is! Oh my god!" he laughed loudly, jumping in his seat.
"Damn Lettie! Only been here for a day and you're already getting in there," Dex smirked at me, wiggling his eyebrows in a suggestive manner. I threw him an annoyed glare before slapping his shoulder as I blushed wildly. Should I tell them? I had a feeling they wouldn't really judge me if I did. They already seem like such good friends whom I can trust. "I'm kidding Katniss," Dexter chuckled while I rolled my eyes at his new nickname for me. "You're a very beautiful woman Scarlett. I wouldn't be surprised if you have all the men in here chasing after you," he told me with a smile as Louis agreed with him, I thanked him shyly with a small grin.
"Alright now tell us!!!" Louis urged in excitement. I think he's a bit too hyper right now.
"Jesus Christ alright! The guy's Harry," I mumbled quietly, hoping the wouldn't hear but oh they did alright.
"Hmm you do have good taste," Louis hummed in reply, laughing as I gazed at him with my eyebrows arched. "I'm just saying!" he held his hands up in surrender. "I've heard from people. Don't worry Scarlett I'm not gay," he chuckled, reading my thoughts.
"I don't think Harry's the right person for a relationship Scarlett. He's not like Blake; he doesn't go around sleeping with chicks. At least not anymore," Dexter said as I nodded. "But he still isn't boyfriend material y'know? He doesn't have any feelings, other than anger."
"I know that. I'm not looking for someone to be in a relationship right now. At least not in that way," I said, my cheeks heating up as they both smirked at me.
"My my Scarlett. You are certainly not the type of girl I thought you'd be like," Louis laughed as I arched an eyebrow at him.
"And what type is that?" I asked.
"Oh the prudish type. Virgin, doesn't drink or party, studies or does boring stuff a lot; is boring in general," Louis told me as I rolled my eyes at him.
"You guys are awfully judgmental y'know?"
"Yeah yeah everyone here is," Dex waved me off as we all stood up with our trays. After dropping them off we headed towards the exit. "But I didn't think you'd be the type for a 'friends with benefits' relationship y'know?" he said as I nodded understanding what he meant.
"Well I didn't want to have sex unless I trusted him completely," I told him.
"Do you trust him?" Louis asked me, as I grew quiet for a moment. Did I trust Harry? I wasn't sure about trusting him sexually, although I did randomly kiss him while I was half-naked in the pool while grinding against him; something I would never do with anyone. However, I just know if we were to have a no strings attached relationship then I wouldn't want to have sex until I completely trusted him with my body, because I respected my body that way. On the other hand, I wasn't sure about trusting him in general. Yes my father worked with him and maybe he did trust him but I didn't know whether I should trust him. He wasn't my friend, we hated each other's guts but we have some sort of desire for one another. I didn't know what we are to be honest. "Lettie?" Louis' accented voice brought me out of my thoughts.
"I don't know Louis," I answered honestly. "He rejected me anyways. He said he felt it was wrong to be messing around with the daughter of the man he once respected and look up to," I told him in an irritated tone. "I get it if my Dad was alive, he'd probably chop both of our heads off. But he's dead, so how does it even matter?" I exclaimed in an exasperated tone.
"Harry Styles is a complicated man Scarlett," Dex told me. "It's his loss if he's letting his thoughts get in the way with what he wants. He wants you too right?" Dex asked me and I nodded in response. "Yeah he really is complicated. But it's probably because he's already got somebody to fuck. Natalie," he told me in a careful tone, as if to watch whether I would get hurt or not. But I wasn't hurt or jealous. I felt nothing. If anything I felt insecure. Of course Harry would want Natalie and not me. She's more gorgeous and curvier than me; we may look a bit similar, same brown hair and brown eyes. But she makes it work on her. She's that one person who makes everyone's self-esteem go down a notch.
"Obviously! Why didn't I think of that?" I sighed as we walked out of the building and headed towards the apartments. "She's a like a hundred times sexier than I'll ever be," I grumbled quietly as I felt Louis throw his arm around my shoulders.
"Oh come on Scarlett! You're sexy as fuck! I'd fuck you if I didn't think of you as my sister and new best bunny!" he giggled, pinching my cheek as I stared at him in amusement.
"Best bunny?" I couldn't help but laugh. I'm not even sure anymore if Louis's an assassin. He's way too cute for this job.
"Yeah you're my new best bunny and Dex is my best bunny! Yay best bunnies forever!" he cheered before someone yelled at him.
"Shut the fuck up Tomlinson!"
"Go suck a dick Lana Banana," he shouted back as I broke out into a fit of giggles. I seriously love Louis, and Dexter obviously. I loved them both like brothers.
"Dude how many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me, well us, best bunnies!? Like what the fuck is that!" Dex exclaimed as we now walked into the apartment building and headed towards the elevators.
"You should be honored that you're my best bunny Dorkxter," Louis pouted at him, looking all cute and hurt.
"Yeah Sexy Dexy," I agreed, giggling as he glared at me.
"Oh shut up ScarJo," Dexter hushed me as I frowned.
"Hey that's a good one! But I think Star is good. Y'know she's like this bright little star in this corrupted organization, hence the dark night sky," Louis said to Dexter as I grew strangely quiet, feeling my throat tighten up.
"Wow, deep Lou Lou. But I admit, Star's good. Don't you think Scarlett?" Dexter asked me, gazing down at me with a smile. It disappeared as soon as he saw my somber expression.
"What's wrong sugar?" Louis asked me, adding the random nickname to make my sad expression disappear but it didn't work.
"Nothing," I shrugged, trying to smile but I failed when a tear slid down my cheek.
"Oh shit she's crying," Louis panicked, before wrapped his arms around my shoulder. I was rendered silent by his action, just a second later Dexter wound his arms around my shoulders and over Louis from behind me and I was trapped between the two like a sandwich. "Don't cry sugar I'm sorry," Louis whined, making a small giggle escape my lips. He was acting so childish it was fucking adorable.
"Yeah! We're sorry for whatever we said that upset you! Please stop crying," Dexter mumbled into my ear, making more laughs escape me. "Okay she's laughing. Thank god we made her laugh. Our human taco worked Louis!" he exclaimed breaking away with a broad grin on his face.
"Human taco?" I questioned, with a small smile on my face as I wiped the tears off my cheeks.
"Yeah it's when we both hug someone at the same time creating the taco shell, and who ever is in between us, is the filling," he grinned proudly, as he explained his incredible invention. "Our human taco always works. Am I right Lou?"
"Of course Dexy!" Louis yelled back. "Hey," he spoke quietly, rubbing my arm soothingly as he stared at me with concerned eyes. "Are you okay?" he asked, worry filling his eyes. The fact that they both cared about me so much brought tears to my eyes once again. It felt so good to have someone who genuinely cares about me again. Spencer was never as childish or playful as Dexter or Louis but he cared immensely for me like we were siblings, exactly how Louis and Dexter now care for me. They hardly know me yet they care about me. They're so sweet.
"Yeah I am Louis," I smiled, before wrapping my arms around his neck and pecking his cheek. "Thank you Louis," I said as he hugged me back before I pulled away and repeated the same actions with Dexter. "Thank you too Dex. You guys are the best honestly," I said, my voice breaking a little.
"Of course Scarlett," Dexter said, smiling as he hugged me back. "Now why were you crying huh?" he asked me softly, gazing at me with anxious eyes.
"It's just that my Dad used to called me Star when I was little," I sighed sadly, as I reminisced to exactly when he did so. "He used to say similar things to what you said Louis. Like I was the light in his life or something like that," I said, staring at the ground. "Sorry I was being emotional it's just that anything that reminds me of my father automatically makes me sad right now and I'm still not over his dea-" I started to rambled before Louis placed his hand over my mouth.
"Say no more we understand Lettie," he said softly, as I smiled back. He parted his lips to say something again but before the words could come out, three people walked into the lobby, talking and laughing loudly. Suddenly at that moment the elevator doors flew open with a 'ding' from right behind me, surprising me and causing me to gasp.
Dex, Louis and I quickly piled in, praying the doors would close before the others would come in but unfortunately the three people quickly made it successfully into the lift. My brown eyes from the ground and landed on the people in the elevator with us. My breath hitched in my throat as my eyes recognized one of the figures as Harry, who had his arm around a female whom I recognized to be fucking Natalie.
I could only pray that this elevator doesn't stop again.
