"No, you can't make me," I breathed, twisting my face from side to side to loosen his grip on my chin.
He released me and I backed away and stood up. I couldn't be an assassin! I wouldn't be able to survive with the guilt of killing innocent people
"No," I said more firmly this time, standing up straight and gazing him confidently at him. He rose up, slightly towering over me as he stared at me with menacing eyes. God he was so frightening.
"I'm afraid you have no choice. This is what your father would've wanted you to do. He saw this coming," he growled at me as I stared at him with tearful eyes. Why would Dad do something like this? Did he not think at all about how this would affect me?
My eyes dropped to the floor as I tried to stop the tears from flowing. As much as I refused to give up, I had to. There was no other way to avoid this. Even if I managed to do everything they said and gained their trust, and escaped: they would still find me. All ways I had thought of getting out of this situation were immediately demolished as my brain managed to find ways to counter them.
I lifted my head up, this time there were no tears and my features were hard. He knew that I had given in because it was written clearly in my eyes. He looked to the side of the room before speaking.
"You will be trained by Blaze," he stated firmly, causing my stomach to lurch. The blonde Russian? Fucking hell. I opened my mouth to speak but he cut me off.
"You should be grateful I'm letting a woman train you and not a man, I could've easily made Damien or Harry train you," he pointed a finger at me.
I would have much rather had either of them train me, well maybe not Harry; he makes me uncomfortable. Damien was much better. I sighed in defeat and looked at Blaze who was smirking at me.
"You start at training at 7:59 A.M. sharp tomorrow morning," he informed me. I frowned at the strange timing, why not 8:00?
"Where am I staying?" I asked as he turned around and headed back to his desk. He didn't turn around to answer my question as every started to leave the room except for the bald guy and Blaze.
"With me of course," she smiled at me fakely before shoving me out of the room, her walking ahead of me.
She was talking to Damien while I trailed behind her sulkily, with Harry by my side. Every now and then I felt him sneakily gaze at me, feeling it burn into the side of my skull, straight to the bone. I didn't understand what his thing was with staring at people so intensely with those bright green eyes, but it was starting to irritate me.
Somehow we found ourselves in the cafeteria, where everybody was eating and chatting. I was confused as to why there were so many assassins. There isn't that many important people in the world that need killing. Maybe this place had a mix of assassins, bounty hunters, mercenaries and etc. I followed Damien, Blaze and Harry as they grabbed trays and started cutting in line to serve themselves. People moved away letting them to cut in front of them like it wasn't a big deal. I assume Harry, Blaze and Damien, along with Vlad and the others in that room were part of some high-ranked assassination team in this organization. It certainly explained why the people here look up to them like they were gods.
I stood at the end of the line, looking like the odd one out of the people here as I was wearing light-colored jeans and t-shirt when everyone around me was dressed in black. The food actually looked really good here, they were serving steak with boiled vegetables: my favorite. Unfortunately, I wasn't hungry. I lost my appetite to eat anything after the news I had just received.
Grabbing a water bottle, I looked around the cafeteria for a place to sit; my eyes immediately locking with those green ones that always made me lose my train of thought. Harry was sitting next to Damien with a brunette male with soft brown eyes. In front of him sat Blaze and the blonde American woman from earlier and next to her was a man with similar features to the brunette next to Harry.
Harry stared at me with his bottom lip between the gaps of teeth, while I walked to the corner of the room with my bags, and sat down at an empty table. As much as I wanted to go to whichever room I was staying in, and taking a long shower, I couldn't because Blaze was here and I didn't know my way around yet. This place looked like it was easy to get lost in, there were so many tunnels and hallways and rooms.
I tried to ignore the strange looks I was getting from other people, probably because I was partly covered in blood, was wearing the right dress code. Setting my water bottle on the table, I pulled out my journal from my backpack and set it on the table with my favorite black ink pen next to it. For the next 15 minutes I just sat and wrote everything that had occurred today, I never failed to update my journal, I would always try to at least get in a few sentences about my day.
"How come I've never seen you around?" A voice spoke up from in front of me. I looked up to find myself gazing into a pair of lovely baby blue eyes. He looked like he was around my age, with tousled copper-colored hair and a charming smile.
"Umm..." My brain was clueless as to how to respond to his question. How do these people end up here anyways? Why would someone willingly be an assassin? What on earth was I supposed to tell him? My father is a dead assassinator with superpowers, and now I have to follow in his footsteps?
"You must be new. Since you're not really following the dress code," he casted an eye over my bloodstained jeans. "I'm Louis," he smiled, holding a hand out for me to shake. I gladly accepted it, smiling back at him.
"Scarlett," I said, closing my journal before tucking it away into my backpack.
"Cool name. Can I call you Lettie?" I laughed lightly at the strange nickname but nodded anyways. "So, why did you join "The Organization"?" he asked me, adding air quotes to the last two words.
"That's what this place is called? The Organization?" I arched an eyebrow; gazing at the chocolate cake he was stuffing his face with. I just think that if I eat anything I'll puke because of how the image of my father's butchered corpse would pop up at the most random times.
"I know right! I thought they'd call it The Justice League or something!" he laughed, making more people shoot weird looks at us.
I liked Louis. He was not so uptight like the others; he was pretty carefree. Plus, so far he's the only person who hasn't threatened to kill me, other than Damien of course. Just a second later, another guy joined us; he had somewhat exotic features, dark locks with warm umber eyes.
"Lettie, meet my mate, this is Dexter" he slapped the shoulder of the brunette; he smiled at me as well, sending me a cheeky wink.
"Lettie huh? Interesting name," he commented, while I shook my head chuckling.
"It's actually Scarlett," I smiled politely.
"So, how did you get into The Organization? It must've been really hard for you," Dexter said, gazing at my body in a weird way, which made me frown.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked, my voice on edge.
"Hey I didn't mean to offend ya! It's just you don't look very...fit?" he laughed lightly, making me even more confused as to why he just called me unfit. What did I ever do to him?
"I may not have passed the fitness test well enough but I'll have you know I'm a whiz with technology and explosives. I can make a bomb that will blow this entire shithole up," I snapped all of a sudden, narrowing my eyes at all of them who stared at me with wide eyes.
I may not have brawn but I did have enough brain to get me through pretty much anything. I felt someone's presence beside me suddenly, clapping my shoulder before throwing their head back laughing. Blaze.
"Wow Lil' Bitch you've got quite a temper," she chuckled, throwing a glance at the two men who were sitting quietly now watching us. "What you said is a load of bull," she spoke to me, rolling her eyes before turning to the two men. "She's Russell's daughter," she informed them, making their eyes widen even more and for Dexter's jaw to drop.
"Holy shit! The Russell Jones?" he asked in awe, now looking at me. "So you're basically following in his footsteps right?" he asked me while I nodded, deciding to leave as I stood up and grabbed y bags.
I started walking away before I felt Dexter grab my wrist; I spun around to look him in the eye.
"Hey I'm sorry about earlier. I really didn't mean to offend you, it's just over here you could say stuff like that nobody will would really give a shit. I guess you're new to this whole assassin thing you wouldn't know how tough and emotionless we all are," he chuckled, letting go of my wrist while I stood in front of him and nodding slightly in understanding.
"Well if you need anything Louis and I are here, you can't really get any friends here but there's us you can trust," he smiled at me.
"That's kind Dexter, thank you," I managed to smile lightly at him, causing his grin to widen.
"Anytime Lettie," he punched my shoulder lightly in a playful manner before running back to Louis.
Blaze walked out of the cafeteria with me trailing behind her, I fixed the straps of my backpack on me and adjusted my grip on my duffel bag as I followed her. We ended up standing in front of the elevator we came from earlier. I heard footsteps approaching us from behind us; I spun around and found myself locking gazes with the blonde American lady and the man who sat next to her earlier.
"I never introduced myself! My name's Jade," she nodded at me, her hand reaching up to push a few strands of her, blonde hair out of her ocean-blue eyes. Her accent, it sounded like she was from Kentucky I assumed. "And this is Seth," she pointed at the man next to her, who smirked at me in acknowledgment.
"Scarlett," I smiled tightly at her and Seth.
"I'm sorry to hear about your father," she spoke, her eyes giving me a sympathetic look before the elevator doors flew open and we piled in.
"Me too," I muttered lowly, not sure how to respond to all these sympathetic apologies. I didn't need nor want their pity. It didn't change the fact that my father was dead.
The doors glided open with a ding, and out we walked. We walked through the warehouse again there were less people this time, probably because it was getting late. We walked out of the building and turned left, approaching another one, which was smaller than the warehouse and darker. It looked more like an apartment building.
Stepping into it, we found ourselves in the lobby before approaching the elevator. There were five floors and Blaze pressed the button indicating the fifth one. During the time, Jade explained to me that this building were everyone lives. Some people choose to go and stay in their own places, but really committed people stay here; which were obviously most of the people here. Apparently, recently they've been running out of space and they've been trying to get another building around. Until then, people were to share their apartments; there'd be three or two per apartment. I wonder if they were big enough to fit enough people. That was why I was staying with Blaze. Plus I think they were afraid I was going to escape somehow, so they wanted someone to keep an eye on me before they could begin to trust me.
