35 : Unwinded Clue
They couldn't find anything. Not even a strand of hair could be found in the cottage. This means that they couldn't find the body.
No matter how good he is he certainly can't be that good in hiding couldn't he? Even if they decided to burn the body, even if they decided to bury or even dispose it to the trash they should be able to find it. But not even the police dog could take a sniff of blood from them.
"Officer Kim, is there really no mistake? Are you sure that Kim Seokjin's body can be here around this area?"
In questions and frustrations Namjoon bit the skin of his thumb only it was not enough to make it bleed. There wasn't enough proof to begin with. There was only the lie detector which he cannot use in court and a mere assumption that he's been a suspect for years along with one report of a suspicious of crime. But that wasn't enough, it's not a real proof that he can use.
The fact that he's here should be what the proof is. Even if the body is disposed there should be something that indicates that they've done something to him. But there was no sight of fire, no suspicious trash and nothing dug underground. In the local CCTV there wasn't a sign of them disposing anything as well.
It's always like this. A file of report and no clues. Unfortunately this wasn't a good reason to argue with.
"Kim Seokjin is still missing. If he is presumably dead in this location then.." Namjoon looks at the sea. The place is abandoned with no camera. Of course he would dump the body into the ocean and let the fish eat it. But within that span of time? The body should still be floating unless they made Seokjin swallow gallons of rocks. Again, the evidence can only be found if they dive deep to the ocean, but the ocean is big itself it'll take more than just full day to find him.
"But we don't have proof for that Sir."
"We never have proof." Namjoon grinds his teeth "We never have."
The subordinate frowns. The thought of looking at him worrying over a case of one man made him pity for his brain couldn't be fully used when it could.
But it's really strange. The fact that not a strand of hair could be found is strange. If anything there should be left of what the couple had left with. They should be able to find Kim Taehyung and Jeon Jungkook's finger prints at least. But there was none, almost as if they were never here.
"They covered everything."
There was no mistaken. They had cleaned everything before their arrival.
Or perhaps they were in the wrong location from the start.
No, they should be at the correct place. The surveillance camera had pointed towards this location. Or maybe everyone is lying, everyone is in Jeon's and his money's side all along and there indeed was proof.
Namjoon's mouth gasp.
"What's wrong Sir?"
He realizes once again. There was one thing he hasn't checked. "I'm going back to town. Do you want to join me or continue looking?"
"I'm fine sir. I still have things to check for it's accuracy."
Namjoon nods. Guess he's alone again. His motive is rechecking the camera, there's something he missed.
Someone must have altered it. He needs to check if he's in the right place, if they're not wrong in location and they've been searching like a blind bat. For all he knows Jungkook could be lying the entire time.
However upon arrival someone had beat him to it. Someone has climbed the ladder first and opened up the memory chip inside.
"Stop!" He yells that had gotten the attention of the man who trespasses.
Namjoon shows his badge before pointing. "I am apart of the police department and—" Before he could finish his introduction, the mysterious man had ran off quickly. Almost in panic and fear.
And the man was fast indeed. Flashing through the crowds and knocking out people in his way.
Twist and corners were ran through. Namjoon wasn't all brains, he was all brawn as well. There was a reason he was ranked so high and how his military service went on very smoothly without him losing a muscle.
And he ran so fast. Most likely faster than how he normally runs. The one in front of him was just as fast or many even more. They can't possibly be a normal citizen. Perhaps hired or trained to outrun anyone. That's where his brain starts to work. Cutting out and leading him to a road of dead end. Where there isn't many crowds to begin with. This wasn't his first time in Busan but he's known the city walls well enough.
The plan worked just as expected. Cornered to a dead wall and caught red handed by Namjoon. However he notices that they didn't give much struggle to break out.
"Your name."
The man refuses to answer.
He yanks the man's wallet out from his pocket. Not for the money but for his identification card.
"Jung Hoseok. Why were you running through the camera?"
Hoseok's eyes frowns upon being caught and cornered. Now he just looks bad just because he hates cops. He hates that he has to deal with them while hiding the fact that he's practically a paid assassin.
"I came to check something."
Namjoon's eyebrows arched "Were you the one that altered the surveillance camera?"
Hoseok shook his head "No, I'm also interested in the case. I want to help solve the case of his murder."
Namjoon's eyes widen. "We have never spoken publicly about his death. How did you know?"
Hoseok doesn't run anymore. He's well calm and composed, just that he hates the police. If it wasn't for Jimin's request he would've been out of this wall by now. But he purposely used Namjoon's intelligent, let's himself be lead here where it's soulless.
"Jimin told me." He sighs.
"Jimin." Namjoon repeats his name. It makes sense and it doesn't seem to be a lie. Still, he doesn't take any chances for anyone to possibly be on Jeon's side. "Do you have any proof?"
Hoseok knew that would happen so be prepares his cellphone to show their conversion. It is a well proof of how Jimin's conversation goes on from casual chats to orders. Though, things like this can be altered, it's not a strong proof to go by.
"You won't be able to find Seokjin's body." Hoseok sighs once more. If anything, Yoongi is better at cleaning dirty floors than he is just as he's faster than Yoongi. "If you want to live, I suggest you don't make anything public first. Not even telling your men."
Namjoon lays confused. Not telling anyone? That's like laying to the enemy's trap.
"Because you can't trust anyone. They're not yours just as you're not theirs."
Namjoon knows that. He knows that he can't even trust his men.
"I can out run you anytime. If you agree to cooperate with me, with Jimin. Then we'll look over this camera one more time together."
An invitation of death. It's like dying without a knife. Namjoon hesitates but so far nothing that was said has been a lie.
"And if I refuse?" Namjoon doesn't take any chances. There is no such thing as trust without a solid proof.
"Then you will forever be in the dark. Jeon Jungkook's crime will never be known by the world and the poor kid—" Hoseok inhales. That's right, there's still Taehyung who is being manipulated inside of that mansion "That kid will die soon. Not by my hands, but by that man"
That man.
Yea, Namjoon knows.
"Tell Jimin to come then I'll work with you."
Hoseok's eyebrows twitch. "What? Are you still doubting me?"
"Keep a note that it is in fact that you needed me and not the other way around." Namjoon smirks "Without my help and clarification to help you wouldn't be able to do anything. You're planning to kill him aren't you?"
Hoseok's eyebrows arches not because it's a threat but because it's true.
