It was a busy night at the Stud, a nightclub in downtown Los Angeles. The lights were on, the bar was bustling, drinks being thrown around and the dance floor full of erotic moves and suggestive behavior.

Our story starts in the bar, a short woman sitting in a bar stool. There's no other stools free, the dark haired female having no choice but to sit there. She examined the new acrylic nails she'd gotten the day prior with precision, her dark eyes not moving from her point of focus. Her fair complexion was enhanced by the pounds of makeup covering her face, the most notable feature being her bright red lipstick. Beside her (on her right) sat a man of great stature, his wavy blonde hair being slicked back and his torso not really being left to the imagination by wearing a fitted gray top.

On the other side of the woman, the left, sat a man. He had dark brown hair, a tanner complexion then the other two at the bar, dressed in a red and black flannel with his hair forearms being exposed.

Now you may wonder, why focus on a bar? Why focus on three individuals? More importantly, why describe them in such vivid detail? Because tonight, something was going to happen at this bar. Something that didn't normally happen. You wouldn't associate love with a bar. It was seldom anyone's judgement to associate the two together.

The woman set her purse down on the counter, a business card slipping out of her bag.

Valentina quickly shoved it back in, instead grabbing a velvet wallet. "Bartender," she started, her voice smooth like honey dripping down metal. The man with dark hair couldn't help but look her way, as did the tall bartender. The bartender's name plate read as Josh, there being a light purple hue in his cropped hair.

"What may I get you ma'am?" Josh asked, finishing wiping down a glass and setting it down beside himself.

"Long Island Iced Tea please," Valentina started, adjusting the straps of her dress with a hand, "make it extra hard. I've had a long day." Josh nodded, as she stuck out the twenty for him to take. A hand went over hers, putting it down.

"On me," the dark haired man beside her started, flashing her a pearly smile. Valentina flashed a smile back, putting her money back in her wallet. He paid Josh, the smiling man by her side seeming more than pleased to order one for himself too.

"What's your name, sweet cheeks?" He started, his hand still on hers.

"Valentina," she responded, pursing her lips and opening them with a loud smack.

"Gorgeous name for a gorgeous girl.. You can call me Darren." Valentina took an extra moment to examine Darren.. She normally wouldn't talk to a guy who didn't look so put together, but something about him entranced her. Charming. He paid for her drink anyways, the least she thought she could do was make some conversation.

"Well, Darren, are you always so charitable?" Valentina cooed, turning towards him.

"I'm a charitable guy, what can I say? I've got a lot to give honey." Darren silent her a wink, a light blush covering Valentina's cheeks.

"Well, I don't think I'll be accepting everything you're offering," Valentina replied, taking her hand out from under his and using it to sweep her hair back behind herself.

"Are you sure? It'd be a shame for a girl like you missing out... No need to be shy." Darren rested his hand on her knee, Valentina feeling goosebumps beginning to form on her arms. By this time, their drinks got served.

"I really think I'll pass.. I've got a boyfriend," she lied straight through her teeth, moving his hand off her knee. Their conversation wasn't quiet, it drawing the attention of someone. The tall blonde sitting beside Valentina looked toward the two, his eyes partially narrowing.

"What boyfriend..? Darling I'm not stupid.. Let's have some fun tonight," Darren went on, not bothering to hide his intention anymore.

"I'm being honest, I'm not looking for sex. I have a boyfriend" she repeated, her voice more affirmative. She felt uncomfortable, it was clear to see in every movement she made.

Darren let out a chuckle, his eyes glinting in a way that made Valentina uneasy. "Really? Because I don't see him-"

"I'm right here," a deeper voice said, both Valentina and Darren both turning to look at the blonde on her other side. He was intimidating off the bat, his face rested in a natural scowl, outlines of muscle on his chest and his arms thick with strength. Unbeknownst to them, his name was Adrian Thompson.

Adrian had gotten in a fight with his younger brother that day. About how he was living his life; he was freshly broken up with his longtime girlfriend, and had hooking up the whole week with women to take his mind off it. Adrian didn't have a good history with women; he was player. But he came to the realization today; he desperately wanted to change how he acted.

His mother was a sleaze, and was the core of why he disrespected women as a whole. But he learned one valuable thing from her, something he never had applied into his life until now; if you think something is wrong, you speak up. His values clearly aren't the same as hers, but he know what this guy was doing was wrong.

Adrian wanted to do what was right. So, he found himself claiming he was this helpless girl's boyfriend. In the moment, he knew why; things were bleak for her if he didn't say something.

Back into reality now... Darren raised a brow towards Adrian, a wave of relief washing through Valentina like a high tide.

"You're her boyfriend? Huh?" Darren's eyes narrowed toward him, as Adrian and Valentina made eye contact for a brief moment.

"Yeah, I am. So get your hands the fuck off my girl, got it buddy?" He stood up off the bar stool, towering over Darren. The other male didn't speak, a lump forming in his throat.

Adrian grinned in satisfaction, as he turned to Valentina. "Honey, I think we should go," he told her, taking her hand. Valentina nodded, her stomach churning.

The two shuffled out of the nightclub, his hand staying in hers. Valentina felt her heart dashing; he was either her savior or something far worse. But he was her best shot, and she found herself following after him and out of the night club.

The street was dark, cars driving by fast. As soon as they got out onto the sidewalk, Adrian let go of the smaller woman's hand.

"You okay?" He asked, glancing down at her. "He didn't try any shit on you, right?"

Valentina shook her head, biting her lip, "no. Thanks for intervening, you really didn't have to. I wish there was some way I could repay yo-"

"Your number," Adrian said, cutting her off. He didn't even know why he asked. But, he wanted it for some reason. "You can pay me back by giving me your number."

Valentina raised a brow. "Are you just an asshole like that guy? Like Darren?" She questioned, her eyes narrowing.

"No, I just don't pass up the opportunity to get a pretty girl's number," Adrian assured.

Valentina thought for a moment, before grabbing her purse and taking out her business card. She handed it to him, turning to walk away. Adrian took it quickly, his eyes scanning over the text.

He put it in his pocket gingerly, the blonde handling it with extra care. Valentina turned the corner away from Adrian...

She'd be getting a call soon.
