10 - The Bathroom

The halls are an empty and a mess of papers are flown everywhere with lockers pulled open. Before class it had been spotless, but now the marble floors were splattered with a dark, matted color of red leading a trail down the hall and around the corner. A metallic smell is tossed into the air leaving a bad taste in my mouth, one of pepper mixed with lemon. My steps are soft and my hands shake, as always, but my head pounds with every movement and I quickly find myself rounding the corner, still following the trail. The headache worsens to the point where I have to grab ahold of a small, silver water fountain, my mouth taking in the water thirstily.

The splatters become smaller and smaller until all I can see are tiny little red dots that trail into a restroom. The tile is now checkered and a dark velvet color, but the red still stands out against it nearly making me puke. Blood has never bothered me before, but I have a feeling it's only because I've either seen it on cuts or TV, nothing this big.

The air surrounding me grows chilly, making my arms wrap around my upper body to try and warm myself up. My eyes are now glued to the floor, unable to make myself look up. The fear of what is to come is just way too much for me to handle, but at some point I have to, right?

"Callie?" the voice is hoarse and a son follows. I slowly look up, my eyes glued to the person in front of me. Jake leans against a white sink, his bandage falling from his head to reveal his hair matted with dry blood and a chunk of his head missing. There are clearly no words to say and before I run to help, even if can, I let out a large cry of fear. His eyes widen and he shakes his head while his hand grabs my arm tightly, his nails digging into my flesh. His grip is tighter than Annie's from earlier and I start to let out silent cries.

"W-W-What happened?" I can barely even let out a sentence and he releases his hand from my arm, using the sink to regain his posture. He holds his other arm, the one put up in a blue cast with few signatures, and steps forward. I can notice a slight limp and he falls into my arms, his sobs choked back.

"I'm fine Callie...but you aren't. I'm already dead anyway, you just need to save yourself," he says. His cold eyes dig into mine and I stare at him, shocked and scared at his words and his looks. Blood now drenches my bare arms, creating a sticky substance that I can't just run away. "Callie...don't worry about me." he adds, reading my mind. How can't I worry though? He's bleeding to death and missing a chunk of his head, I can't believe he is even calm at this point.

"B-But yo-you-you're hurt Jake..." I stumble on my words and push Jake back against the grey colored wall, my hand held against his head injury to try and stop the blood from oozing out even more. "We need to call 911."

"They. Can't. Save. Me. Go back to class Callie, and when you get home...just run," in the next second his figure vanishes from the wall, leaving a small black outline made of a powdery substance. I stumble back, falling against the second wall while my head tries to piece everything together.

"Callie?" my whole body shakes as I fall to the cold floor, my hand trying to wipe away the blood. But as I go to look, the blood is gone and reveals my naturally tan skin with no blemishes what so ever...not even my small freckle that has always been on the edge of my hand and placed at the end of my wrist. "Callie come on, you have class now," the voice sounds familiar and echoes through the room, but it just seems so far away. I feel as though I'm slipping from reality, but hands grip my shoulders and shake my body. "CALLIE!!!"

Looking up, my eyes meet my teachers brown ones as she looks down at me angrily. "You can't just skip class missy, that will result in detention!" she yells yanking my body up with ease. Her hand brush off dirt from my clothing and she fixes loose strands of my hair behind my ear before flashing me a toothy grin. It's as if her whole body expression changes in a flash. Bipolar bitch. "It's okay though silly! It's your first day so I'll go easy on you. Now, let's get back to class." I follow behind her at a slow pace, but I really don't want to go. I want to get to the bottom of this stupid maze. Never in my life have I ever gotten visions of that sort, never that graphic.
