She's missing...

Song: Hymn for the missing by Red (Nightcore version)

Jessica's (Sophie's mom) POV:

I know we had words; hell we always do. We always have but she had never just left without saying anything. She never made it home over the weekend. I have tried her number and nothing. I have called the dorm and talked to several of her classmates....I have even talked to her professors and nothing.

I am so worried about her without her medication there s no telling what will happen to her. I have tried to pull up her phone and I get nothing...no signal what-so-ever. Her car doesn't even register its location.Something is wrong I just know it. So that is why I am here sitting at the police station filing a report...a missing persons report that is.

I have been waiting on this bench for what seems like forever. I watch people come and go. Some in handcuffs...officers talking and pushing people along. Then the door finally opens and this younger man looks around the room. "Mrs. Baxter...Jessica Baxter." I meet his eyes and he nods for me to come his way.

I walk behind him towards his small office. The room in a little stale and good use a good spray of Febreeze. There are a few pictures hanging here and there by the way not perfect either. They are tilted this way and that it takes everything in me not to straighten them out for them.

"Please have a seat. I am detective Bryce Ledlow...how can I help you?"

I look down at the stained filled chair and debate if I really want to sit down or not. I sit on the edge of the chair. Before I can even start talking the tears come and he hands me a tissue.

"I'm sorry...I don't mean to be this way...my daughter....my daughter is missing." I wipe at my eyes and then blow my nose.

He pulls out a notepad and starts jotting down notes. "When is the last time you seen or heard from her?"

"Uhm...Friday. She attends the college over in Bellevue and she was supposed to come home over the weekend. She is not answering her phone and I am getting really worried about her."

"Ma'am she is a typical teen...maybe she had other plans."

"No...you don't understand...Sophie is not just a typical girl. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia a few years ago. Without her medication I am seriously worried that something bad has happened."

"Ok...let's fill out all the information. I will look into her whereabouts."After going over all the details and giving him all the information, I realize that this is really happening. "Look ma'am we will do the best we can, hopefully she is just off to Florida or something you know how kids can be."

"She is not a kid...she is twenty and I know something is not right. I can't find her phone. I have a tracker on it and nothing shows up...nothing...not even her car."

"You have a tracker on her car." He looks at me like I have got to be joking."Yes...why wouldn't I. She hears voices and they cause her to do things. I placed the tracker on it after she got in bad wreck years ago only because I had a feeling something like this was going to happen again."

He stands up and walks around the desk. He holds his hand out for me to shake. "We will find her ma'am...we will. I will give you a call as soon as I find out something."

I shake his hand back and leave. Once outside I break down crying. I just know something is wrong. I just know she is out there somewhere....lost.

The week drags by slowly and we the phone rings I just know it is the detective."Hello." My hand starts to tremble, waiting for the other voice on the other end to talk.

"Yes...Mrs. Baxter this is Detective Ledlow...we found a phone off on the side of the highway that we believe to be Sophie's...it looks like the one you had described...the phone was shattered and my team is getting the chip out of it to see what all was on it."

I gasp...she never leaves her phone behind. Something is not right.

"Ma'am we also found her car over in Jasper County...it was well hidden. Actually, someone found it a few days ago and turned it in."

"So...you have her phone...her car...where is my baby?" I start to tear up.

"We are looking ma'am. We put out the report for everyone to be on the lookout for her whereabouts."

"What do we do now?"

"Now...would you be willing to make a statement...a public statement about your daughter on the TV."

"Yes...I will do anything...for my daughter."I sob even harder.

By the end of the day, there are several reporters at my door. Everyone wants me to give a statement. I keep telling myself that I will not break...I will not break on TV. But the moment the camera is on me...I break.

"I beg you...if you know anything about my daughter Sophie...please let the local police know. Sophie was diagnosed with schizophrenia, so if you see her you might notice her talking to herself. She may seem odd and be acting in a peculiar manner." I hold up a recent picture of her. "This is her....this is my Sophie...Sophie Baxter. She is a freshman over at Belleview community college. If you have any information...any at all please don't hesitate to tell the authorities." I cover my face and let out another round of tears.

The reporters stand around on my lawn, waiting on me to come back out. Waiting on me to answer more questions, but I can't...I refuse to go back outside.

I stay up late...tossing and turning. I worry so much about her because I have a feeling this is not going to come out good. I have a feeling something really bad has happened to her. That girl can't live without her phone...and I know she would never leave her car...not like that. Someone has to know something...someone knows where she is.

All week...and even into the next week I walk around town posting up pictures of her on polls and doors and other places hoping someone would notice her...hoping someone would call me or let me know something about her.

A month has passed and still no word about her...nothing.
