I kinda like her
Song: You're gonna be okay by Brian and Jenn Johnson
Andy's POV:
Thankfully I had arrived on time to class. The professor gets really pissed off when people come in late. I turn in my assignment and listen the lecture. However I'm not really focused on him and his monotone voice that nearly puts my ass to sleep. Instead I find myself thinking of her.
I have been going to the nursing home for the past two years...part of my community service hours. I mostly read to the older generations and every now and then there will be someone a little younger that comes through but so far no one has compared to her. God she is so freaking cute. I need to find out more about her.
I want to get to know her...the things she likes, the things she desires however it's kind of hard when you are in a coma. Maybe I can find a way to sit and talk with her mom. Maybe she could give me more insight to her.
I know what everyone will think...that I am crazy for even liking a girl like Sophie. Hell I haven't even really met her yet...not really. I mean yeah I have touched her, brushed her hair, and talked to her for the past week but I haven't officially met her.
After class, I drive out to the farm. So my great-grandparents had this amazing two hundred acre farm. And instead of breaking it all apart when they passed away, selling it piece by piece the family got together and decided to make a recovery center for those that have addictions or other things going on with their lives.
Honestly I think it was to really help me out. My mom almost lost it when they found out that I had almost died. While I was in a coma she orchestrated all of it, getting everything planned out. I think it was a way to also help heal her.
My grandparents live in the big farm house and my parents built a house a few acres over. In total there are only five houses...and then they built the community house that has up to ten bedrooms, four bathrooms, along with a kitchen and living space.
They also built another barn close to it that has several horses, two goats, three pigs, a few chickens and even my personal favorite...Charlie...who is the most lovable Border Collie ever.
As I get out of my car, Charlie runs up to greet me. "Hey there boy....what you been up to all day?"He jumps up, reaching up to my face to give me his puppy love.
It's going on a little after nine and most everyone is getting ready for bed. So I walk on into the house and notice my dad sitting on the front porch in his favorite rocking chair. I sit down beside him."So...how was your day?" He asks as he whittles the wood in his hand.
"It was alright I guess...same old thing day in and day out."
"Everything going alright up at the nursing home?"
"Yeah...I make my round." I look down for a few minute and then back up debating if I even want to start this conversation with him. I decide against it and pick up a small piece of wood that I have been working on.
So my great-grandfather taught my grandfather and then he taught my dad and now my dad has been teaching me how to make really cool things out of just a piece of wood. My dad actually has this whole chest set that he made by hand which is really pretty freaking cool if you ask me. I have been just playing around, not really sure what I want to make at the moment.
"Son....you got something on your mind?" He continues to work, only glancing up for a second and then back down.
"I don't know...well...maybe...it's just...there's this new girl at the nursing home and I don't know...I want to get to know her but it's just not possible right now."
"All you have to do is say hi...you young folks make things so freaking complicated now days."
"Dad...it's not that...it's just she is in a coma so even if I do try to talk to her it's not like she is going to respond back."
"Oh...well I see...uhm...that is a complicated situation. Well you could still visit her...talk to her. You know you were there once and you came out alright...hopefully she will too."
"I hope so. I asked her mom what happened but she got really quite. I know it's none of my business...but I feel like I have to know."
"Will it make any difference? I mean whether it was an accident or not...she is still the same as she was when she got that way. Look son...you will find out in time for now maybe just being there talking to her is what she needs."
"You know...you are right as usual. Regardless she is the same girl. I just can't wait to actually talk with her. She is just so freaking cute and it's sad seeing her just laying there like that."
He just nods his head.
"I'm so sorry you guys had to go through that. I can only imagine what her mom is going through."
"I'm sure she is just as emotional as your mom was...maybe you should ask her to come out her sometime and visit the farm. It's always good to get people out into nature...somehow it just soothes people."
"You know...I just may ask her the next time I see her."
Two days later...
I'm reading the last chapter to my reading assignment and her mom just happens to walk in. I stand up to greet her. "Good afternoon Mrs. Baxter." I shake hands with her.
"Good afternoon...Andy. How is my girl doing today?" She lets go of my hands and walks right over to her bedside to hold her hand.
"Same...I played some more music for her today and I got my book finished. Guess I will have to bring something new tomorrow."
"But it's a Saturday....surely you have other things to do other than come up in here to read to all the patients."
I sigh, "I have lots to do but..." She gives me that look my mom always gives me. I can't help but smile. "You know...my family owns this farm would like to come out tomorrow and visit...I mean if you don't have any plans."
"A farm...me...I don't know."
"It's really amazing out there. We server dinner around twelve you should come out."
"I don't know...well...I mean I need to come by here of course...you know what let me think about it."
"Cool." I reach into my back pocket and pull out my wallet. I open it up and pull out the card that has the name of our farm and the address on the back it states our mission statement of why we have the place. I hand it to her. "Here is one of our cards...address right there. Well I hope you will think about coming out it would be nice to have you."
She smiles and looks down at the card and then back up to me. "Guess we will see."
After I tell her bye I head on back home to see if anyone needs any help for the Friday night cookout.
