Chapter 6

I crouched down a little as I prepared myself to leap. I grin deviously at the police that surrounded me. I was so excited that I could hardly contain myself! I glared at the cop in front of me and taunted him by sticking out my tongue and winking. I didn't think that it would work, but my taunting paid off!

His worried eyes turned into frustration and pulled the trigger. I didn't need to move a muscle. His aim was completely off. I reacted either way. I pounced at him and lashed onto his neck. I swung on his neck so that I was behind him on his back and held him in a choke hold. The others freaked out and aimed their guns towards us. I smirked. Two of them fired but I only used the poor cop as a shield who took the hits for me. Welp. He was knocked out. I leaped off him just as he started to collapse. I grabbed his collar right before he hit the ground and threw him at the others, knocking them down.

"Phew! I'm a little out of shape!" I said as I flexed my arm and started walking toward the woods. Just then, something caught my attention. I stopped and looked from the corner of my eyes. I saw something glint by the doorway. I strained my human ears to hear what was going on. POW!! I ducked as soon as I heard him pull the trigger. I growled and picked up the tranquilizer and hurled it back at him. Welp, he's out of the picture. The others are gonna wake up soon. I don't get how they got knocked out in the first place. They weren't much fun. I thought as I headed towards the woods to hide out for the night. I'd have to wait until the cops woke up and left to clean up the mess they left behind from the battle. I slipped deeper into the woods and switched to a fox. I found my usual sleeping tree and climbed up onto my favorite branch to sleep.

"Hi Kat." I jumped and clawed up another couple branches before looking down. There, I saw my friend, Sierra who also knows my secrets. I let out a sigh of relief and jumped down next to her.

"Phew! Why'd you scare me like that?" I stared at her while calming down. She laughed.

"Heehee! I didn't know you could climb that fast! I could've mistaken you for squirrel!" We both laughed our heads off and headed in my house. When we reached the door, I swept my hand through the air. I set the door hanging by a screw in place and set a barrier up around my house. Sierra set herself up at the table while my "magic" fixed everything around the house. I packed my bag for my trip while Sierra wandered around my house aimlessly with nothing to do.

"Hey, Sierra. Why are you still here? Don't you have school?" I looked around for her. I heard her footsteps creaking upstairs and stuck my head in the stairway. I decided not to and went back to get some other things necessities. I stuffed some spare clothes into my bag and turned back to the stairs. I stuck my head into the stair way again to check on her because her aimless footsteps stopped.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I saw her just standing there in the middle of the hall upstairs. She stared at my room and I noticed that she was staring through my window. Now, I was debating on whether I should read her mind or wait and see what was going to happen. I don't like to snoop in people's minds without permission unless I'm really bored. In the mist of my debate, Sierra turned sharply towards me and stared at me. Her expression went from nothing to contempt. Without warning, she growled while leaping down the stairs at me. I jumped out of the way and drew my dagger. She landed clumsily with a loud thud. I grabbed the strap of my bag and willed it to be a charm on my choker. I felt a new charm dangling on my neck. Assured that my bag was there, I lunged at Sierra with dagger in hand.

"Sierra! What are you doing? Snap out of it!" Sierra launched a punch towards my head. I tilted my head to the side to dodge and grabbed her wrist. In one swift move, I turned her around while keeping my grip on her wrist. I wrapped my free arm with the dagger around her neck. I kept the blade facing away from her and pressed the butt of the weapon against her neck. She struggled against my grip on her but I kept the butt of the dagger pressed against her throat by the artery. She froze. I took the opportunity to read her mind.

Sierra's thoughts/POV:

Sierra lunged at me. What am I doing? Why am I attacking Kat? I'm so confused. I can't control my body? I drew my knife and dodge a series of her punches and kicks. Kat! Please help! Read my mind and free me! I think it's mind control or something. Please hear me! Kat! I grabbed Sierra and put a choke hold on her. Kat! What are you doing?! Kat! Can you hear me?

End of Sierra's POV~:

Kat! Can you hear me? Sierra's voice rang loudly in my head.

Yes Sierra. I can hear you. Don't worry, I'll get you out of this mess soon. I didn't know he'd go for you too! I'm so sorry! I released my grip on her neck to hug although she was still in her trance from the mind control. She thrashed viciously to throw me off. I hugged tighter before letting go and knocking her out with a swift blow to her neck.

"I'm so sorry Sierra," I whispered as I carried her towards the couch. I laid her down and fixed my house again. I grabbed a sticky note telling Sierra what happened so she's aware of what's going on. I opened the door and left. I went in the woods to open a portal to my homeland. I turned around to take one last look at my quiet little neighborhood before slipping through.

Goodbye, for now. I hope.
