Chapter Sixteen

"I think I'm gonna need a little more detail on the whole kidnapping thing though," Camille said, walking further into the room.

This "Camille" girl showing up was really disappointing, to be honest. I'd gotten my hopes up thinking the police were about to bust in, but I should have known better.

When have the police ever helped me?

"So talk," Camille's voice interrupted my thoughts.

I looked over to see her crossing her arms and waiting while the boys squirmed uncomfortably.

"Ummm..." Jacob trailed off, scratching his head.

"Errrr..." Carson rubbed his chin.

"Ahhhhhh," Jacob scratched the back of his neck.

"Uhhhhh," Carson rubbed his jaw.

"Well, I mean, we were here," Jacob began.

"So then we saw," Carson continued.

"And then we went and did," Jacob said.

"So we came back," Carson said.

"And now here we are!" Jacob finished.

I looked up at Hayley, who furrowed her eyebrows. Then we all looked around at each other, none of us really sure what to make of that.

"Wow," Camille said finally, with a deep frown. "That was vague."

"It was what happened," Carson countered.

"Whatever," She muttered. "I guess what you did can't be any worse then what my roommate does on a daily basis."

"WAIT!" Carson suddenly shouted.

I startled, surprised by his sudden outburst, but thankfully I didn't scare as easily as some of the others.

I'd been startled by worse.

I'd done worse.

"AHHHH!" Hayley jumped, tripping on her way back down and ending up crashing to the ground.

Obviously she had not grown up in the hood like me.

"Are you ok?" I asked, bending over to help her up.

"Never mind that, what's up?" Jacob asked, ignoring us.

I steadied Hayley with my arm, only pausing to glare at Jacob.

"What day is today?" Carson asked, suddenly appearing to be deep in thought.

"The day you had a change of heart and set us free?" I hedged.

"It's Monday," Camille offered, leaning against the wall and watching him with an entertained look.

Carson's entire face lit up like a kid getting candy, and he jumped up with a loud, "YES!"

"What's going on today?" Hayley asked, cocking her head.

"My partner in crime arrives today," He announced proudly, giving Hayley a secretive smile. Criminals have partners? I've always been a Lone Ranger.

"But I thought I was your partner in crime," Jacob protested.

"Not now Jacob, I'm in the middle of talking about my best friend."

"I thought I was your best friend!"

"Jacob, you my friend, are getting on my last nerve."

"It used to be 'You my BEST friend'," Jacob lamented sadly.

Carson made an impatient noise in the back of his throat.

"Who's your partner in crime?" Hayley asked curiously.

"Not me, if that's what you're wondering," Jacob muttered bitterly.

Carson rolled his eyes and simply said, "You will see later. Until then we can just help Camille get settled in."

"It was lovely to meet you two," Camille smiled at us, and turned away to head up the stairs.

Carson frowned. "Don't you have any luggage?"

"Caught in the fire," She answered without turning back.

Yikes.

"What are we supposed to do in the meantime?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.

Unfortunately, this action pushed up my breasts, and Jacob's eyes boggled.

He continued staring until I swatted him with my hand. "Stop that."

"Maybe I should take Camille upstairs," He laughed nervously, scratching the back of his neck. A blush heated up on his face.

"Yeah, you go do that," Carson said distractedly, waving him away. "We can entertain ourselves."

"Ok... but don't do anything too crazy while I'm gone," Jacob said, seeming a bit worried to leave us alone.

"I'll keep them in line," I clarified, and I watched as the worried look turned into a look of dread.

"That makes me feel much better," He spoke dryly.

"What?" I asked innocently. "Don't you trust me?"

"You don't want me to answer that."

I rolled my eyes at him and turned to address the masses.

"Alrightie, troops," I announced. "Lets march!"

I picked my knees up and began to march into the hall with Hayley on my toes when the doorbell rang again.

"I'll get it!" Carson shouted before we could make a move.

He dashed over to the front door and pulled it open.

We turned around and I looked over Hayley's shoulders to see a bookish looking guy with unruly brown hair and glasses pushed up his nose. He was kinda cute, in the best friend type of way.

I turned around fully, assessing him. Didn't seem like too much. Probably useless to me.

"Hey!" He spoke, a large smile forming across his face. "I just..." He trailed off as he caught sight of me. His eyes widened slightly. "Woah."

I narrowed my eyes at him, which only made him blush.

For some reason, Jacob seemed to instantly dislike him, and he scowled at the man. "Did you want something?"

"Uh, yes," He said, giving his head a slight shake to focus. "I just moved in next door, and I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Josh."

"And I'm Bored. Bye," Jacob said, and shut the door in his face.

"Jeez," I muttered, looking at the door and feeling bad for Josh. "Remind me not to get on your bad side."

Then, the doorbell rang again.

"WHOEVER YOU ARE, GO AWAY!"
Jacob shouted, apparently done with visitors.

They knocked this time, and Carson gave a huge sigh, and went to answer it. "UugghajsjAHSHA."

Then suddenly, another, more delighted gasp escaped him as he looked out the window and saw who was out there. "Aaaaaassghf! GUYS get over here! Camille! Jacob! NOW!"

We all gathered around the door behind him, straining to peek outside.

"Here comes my partner in crime..." Carson grinned. He slowly opened the door, and revealed a big man with a mustache that looked like the man from Monopoly.

I whistled lowly. "Impressive. Does he carry your get-out-of-jail-free card?"

"Not him," Carson scoffed. "Look."

I looked.

Next to the mustache man, was a German Shepherd.

As soon as the door opened fully, the dog sprinted at Carson and jumped on top of him, knocking him to the floor.

"Ahhh! Pancake!" He cried in laughter, pulling the dog in and ruffling his fur.

Hayley cocked her head. "Pancake?"

"That's Carson's Dog's name," Jacob explained.

Aww! That's kinda cute.

I couldn't help but smile too while the boy and the dog wrestled on the floor.

Pancake sat on top of Carson and began to attack his face with licks, while Carson laughed like a child on Christmas.

"Guess that training camp didn't work too well, huh?" Carson laughed, hugging him.

Monopoly Man who was holding the leash stood outside the door looking uncomfortable, and he finally just backed up and left.

I turned back and watched the love.

"Hello Pancake," I said.
