*1 YEAR LATER*

Today, was a very big day for me. My decision was final. I couldn't wait any longer without making her mine forever.

I just hoped that she would give me the answer I was looking for. If you can't tell already, I'm asking her to be my wife.

Why? Because she is the absolute love of my life. She knows everything about me. My favorite things, my least favorite things, and more importantly, she knows how to make everything right.

As well as my son, she plays a big role in my life. I believe that anything is possible, and I will always believe it. I know she is the one I have always wanted.

I called one of my good friends to help me out with the proposal. "Hey dude! We only have a few hours until she's back from work, we have to hurry, but take your time." I told him as he got out of his car.

"Let's get to it then!" Brian exclaimed. I also called some more of my friends, and they should be here soon.

I was going to have my friend, Ian, to tell her that I have a surprise for her, and he will drive her here. We were at this place with a big waterfall. The view was breathtaking. I knew she would love it.

There would be rose petals leading up to where the waterfall area is, and there will be lights streaming everywhere.

It's not original, but it's definitely perfect. Eli was going to come in after I ask, and give her some flowers.

*A FEW HOURS LATER*

(Violet)

"Bye mom! I love you! Eli say bye to grammy." I knew my mother hated that nickname. He waved to her. "Bye grams! Tell pap I love him very much." Eli said out the window.

Yes, my father also hated being called pap, as well. We waved, and I started my destination home.

As I got there, Ian's car was parked in the driveway. Why is he here? I got out, and unbuckled Eli and we walked to his car.

He was sitting there looking at his phone, texting away. "Hey Ian! I'm assuming you're here for Shawn, right?" I asked, and he shook his head.

"Actually, um, Shawn granted me permission to drive you to him, it's a surprise." Oh gosh, one of Shawn's dinner dates. Classic.

"Okay, well let me put my stuff down, and change and I'll be right out." I told him and took Eli inside.

"Go get changed into some comfy clothes, and put your toys away please." I told him, and he ran upstairs into his room.

I walked up to my room, and found some jeans, a dark red shirt, and my combat boots. I changed out of my nurse clothes.

After I was done, I grabbed Shawn's maroon hoodie, and my purse. I got Eli, and locked the door behind me.

We got in Ian's car, and he drove off down the road. A few minutes passed, and I noticed he wasn't going toward the diner that Shawn always takes me to.

"Ian? Where are we going?" I asked him, a little scared. I trusted Ian, but I mean, you never know.

"I'm not aloud to say, but trust me, I'm not going to hurt you guys." Ian explained, and I assumed he knew what happened in the past.

"Call Shawn, he'll assure you everything is fine." He chucked, and I smiled, pulling out my phone.

I called, and it ringed a few times before I heard the soothing voice I longed to hear.

S: hey babe
V: hey um is Ian supposed to be driving me somewhere?
S: *laughs* yes hun
V: oh ok well he told me to call and for you to assure me
S: you're fine baby girl, I promise. Well I got go, I love you
V: love you more
S: impossible
V: byeeeee

I laughed and hung up. I swear, this boy holds my heart.

Finally, we arrive, and it's such an unfamiliar place. It was beautiful, though. I think I fell in love with the view. Is that possible?

I looked behind me, and Ian and Eli disappeared. I hoped they were together. What is this? Is Shawn here? What if Ian was tricking me and forced Shawn to say I was alright?

I started to freak out until I seen Brian appear from a corner, with a note in his hand. He handed it to me with a smile. I looked down, and there was rose petals and a chalk drawn area, pointing uphill.

I read the first card.

My love,

Follow the petals, and you shall find another note.

I stopped at a corner where I found a note and a picture attached to a tree. It was a Polaroid of me and Shawn. The one of us at my 18th birthday party that Shawn threw for me.

I teared up, remembering all the precious memories. The note read,

Beautiful,

Don't cry, darling. Memories are precious, and we hold them forever. Keep following the petals, and you will find your destination.......almost.

I laughed, because I knew Shawn was planning something. I had guessed what it might be, and that made me a nervous wreck.

I walked some more, and saw another note taped to a rock. And yes, another picture. Shawn was holding me in his arms, and looking down at me as I was looking at the beach, admiring the view.

Oh, and how could I forget the cheesy caption he wrote in sharpie.

"I guess we both fell in love with the view."

Wow, he's making me tear up again.

I wiped my eyes, and picked up the note.

V,

Tears again, huh? My goal is to only make you cry of happiness, not of pain, darling. I know you're tired, so continue on for the last note, love.

The boy knew the way to my heart, and he didn't need any directions.

Finally, I reached the last note. It was taped to a big white arch looking thing, in front of a gate, to a waterfall. I thought I was going to cry at how beautiful this was.

I grabbed the last note, and admired the picture of our hands intertwined close to the camera, and his bright smile.

Violet,

I love you, beautiful. I always have, and I always will. I'm sorry for making you walk a long way, and sorry for the cheesiness. I know you love it though. I can't see a future without you, I can't see a Shawn Mendes without you, and I definitely can't see life without you. I think you know what this is. Turn around, love.

I started crying for the hundredth time, and turned around to meet those eyes. He teared up, and slowly reached for my hands.

"I love you, Violet. I know you love me, together forever, and so it will be." He squeezed my hands, and got down on one knee.

Here comes the waterworks.

"Violet Harper, you know I'm not the best with words, but you mean the world to me. You and Eli are my world. I have never loved a girl as much as you, well except my mom and sister. I can't breathe, eat, or sleep without knowing you're okay. I know I've screwed up in the past, but that's behind me for a reason. I want Eli to have the best childhood ever, and I want to be his role model. I want to teach him things, and I want to go through life's obstacles, with you. So please, do me the honors, and give me the answer I want?" He paused, and Eli came running from behind a tree, holding a bouquet of tulips in his tiny hands. I was sobbing, at this point.

"Violet Harper, will you marry me?"
