Chapter 4
"D'you have any idea where Virgil is, Roman?" Patton asked.
Roman and Patton were driving back to Roman and Virgil's house, where Virgil had stayed after Roman left for the gym.
"Well, he said that he had nothing planned for the day, so he's probably just at home." Roman said.
Patton pulled into the driveway of Roman and Virgil's house and turned off the engine, climbing out of the car.
Roman pulled out the house keys from his pocket and unlocked the front door, waltzing in.
"Virgil! Patton's here!" he called our, "We were wondering if you wanted to go out for a coffee!"
Patton walked into the living room, searching for Virgil. The TV was turned on, playing some kind of rock band. A half-eaten sandwich and can of coke sat on the coffee table, with a few flies buzzing around it.
Frowning, Patton called out to Roman.
"He's not in the living room!"
Roman replied with "Okay!", climbing up the stairs to the second floor. He checked the gaming room first, calling out "Virgil!" all the time. The gaming room was empty, so he pushed open the door to his and Virgil's room, peering inside.
"Virgil?" Roman said, "Are you in here?"
There was no response, so Roman went the rest of the way into the room, and gasped.
There was a foot-wide bloodstain on the carpet in the middle of the floor, surrounded by several other small splatters.
"P-Patton?" Roman croaked, "Patton, get up here!"
Hurried footsteps came up the stairs and Patton rushed through the door, looking worried.
"Roman, what is it?" he asked quickly.
Roman silently pointed to the blood, his eyes wide.
Patton gasped, "Oh crud." He put a hand on Romans shoulder, tearing his eyes away from the blood.
"Roman, did you notice anything weird before you left for the gym? Anything at all?"
Roman quickly shook his head, "No, nothing."
Nodding, Patton let go of Roman and left the room, calling for Roman to follow him.
"Alright. Roman, I need you to call Virgil's phone. It's unlikely that he still has it, but it's the obvious thing to do right now." Patton said, "I'm going to call Logan to come over, maybe he can bring Thomas with him."
While Patton went to call Logan, Roman pulled his phone from his back pocket and turned it on.
The lock screen was a selfie of him and Virgil. Roman was giving Virgil a kiss on the cheek, and Virgil was rolling his eyes and smirking.
Romans eyes brimmed with tears, and he sniffed as hey pressed Call on Virgil's contact number.
~~~
Virgil was panicking.
The second Devon had left the room he broke down in tears, sobbing. His heart pounded a mile a minute, his breaths were shallow and shaky, his head was clouded and he couldn't see straight.
He was having an anxiety attack, one of his worst yet.
Virgil hadn't had to deal with a anxiety attack alone since Devon had last kidnapped Virgil, four years prior. There were rare occasions when Roman was out somewhere and Virgil was alone, but they were never that bad and he usually just called Roman on his phone anyway, and talked.
But there was no Roman here.
However, just as Virgil thought that, he felt a vibration on his arm, and heard the chorus of Teenagers, by MCR.
It was his phone, it was ringing.
Devon must have thought that Virgil didn't have his phone on him, because who would think to check in their sleeves for pockets?
Earlier that year, Virgil had sewn a small pocket inside all the sleeve of his jackets, near his wrist. It was so that his phone would always be within his reach, and no one could steal it without him noticing.
It was just this thing that Virgil praised himself silently for at this moment in time, because he was able to twist his arms and flip them in front of his body (Virgil was double jointed in some very strange places) and see who was calling.
Roman's name was on the screen.
Almost crying with relief, Virgil clicked Accept and spoke.
"Roman!" Virgil gasped, "Roman, thank god!"
Romans voice seemed like the most amazing sound to Virgil.
"Virgil! Where are you? What happened? I saw blood-" Virgil cut Roman off, hurriedly speaking.
"R-Roman- i-it's Devon."
There was silence on the other line for a moment, then Roman asked, "W-What? Devon? How?"
"I-I was at home eating and w-w-watching TV downstairs
a-and then I went upstairs to get a magazine and then I h-heard s-s-something behind me and then it went all
b-b-black and the next thing I know I'm in this dark room and D-Devon walks in and he hurt me and he left for a bit then he came back and t-t-told me everything because he thought that I'd n-n-never get out and he's j-just l-l-left again a-and I'm panicking-"
Virgil broke off, wheezing, his breathing hitched.
Roman was silent, then Virgil heard him shout for Patton.
"PATTON! Devon's got Virgil!"
Virgil cried, fat tears rolling down his cheeks.
"Virgil, where are you?" Roman asked quickly, "Do you know where he's taken you?"
"N-n-no, he kn-knocked me out and b-b-brought me here." Virgil gasped.
"Virgil, I need you to calm down, okay?" Roman said, "You have to calm down, Devon might hear you."
Though he tried, Virgil couldn't seem to calm down. He still gasped for breath, the edges of his vision darkening, everything in his mind hazy.
"Roman, I'm going to die." Virgil said, "Devon's g-got me again and he's t-taken me far away and he's l-l-locked me up and I'm going t-to die here."
Roman bit his lip, "No, you're not, Virgil."
His voice was slow and soothing, the way he always had it when he was helping Virgil with an anxiety attack.
"Devon's kidnapped you before, but remember what happened last time? You shot that psycho is the leg! And we rescued you, you escaped! And if you think for one second that I'm going to let him get away with kidnapping you again, then you're kidding yourself. Because I will do everything in my power to make sure he rots in hell."
Virgil was still hyperventilating majorly, but Romans words soothed him, and he gave a tiny smile.
"Th-thanks Roman."
Suddenly Virgil heard footsteps outside the door of the room, and he gasped.
"Roman, I've got to go, Devon's here!"
"No, Virg-!" Virgil quickly hung up, put his phone back in the sleeve pocket, and flipped his arms back behind his back, acting like nothing had happened.
The door opened and Devon walked in, smirking.
"Hello, Virgil." he said.
