Chapter 18
Markus
I quickly ran after the figure, my footsteps echoing loudly in the empty street.
People were mostly staying inside buildings, preparing for the incoming rogue attack we were waiting for.
I didn't hear any footsteps from around the corner and when I turned there was no one in sight. I sniffed the air to find an odd absence of anyone's scent. It must mean that they were covering up their scent, blocking out other's scents wherever they went.
That didn't typically happen, only if the person was new at it and couldn't control it as well as others, or they were purposefully blocking other people's scents as well as their own.
I continued following the trail of no scents, being as quiet as possible while still moving quickly.
I soon found myself in front of a building used for the school's concerts and plays they put on. It had a lot of instruments and more than one, different sized stages.
I was about to open the door when it swung open before I could put my hand on the handle.
Out walked a class of elementary schoolers, probably leaving from practicing learning their instruments.
They were a loud bunch once they got out to the street and didn't seem to notice me, which didn't really bother me. They hadn't been expecting me here and they were all excited about how well they were doing with their instruments.
The teacher was the only one to notice me, "Alpha!" She said sounding shocked.
She quickly bowed her head to me, a gesture that I never really understood why it was necessary but it made my wolf proud whenever someone did so I just went with it.
"Ms. Woods, how are the kids doing with their instruments?" I greeted her, smiling.
"Well, this group is taking a little longer to get down the notes but they'll get the hang of it!"
"That's good to hear, you should hurry and get your class back to the school, you never know when something could happen," I told her, trying to get her to leave so I could search the building.
"Oh course Alpha, have a nice day!" she bowed her head and hearded her loud class in the direction of the school, making sure they stayed out of the street.
I sighed as I walked in the door, closing it quietly behind me. I couldn't hear anything and I couldn't smell anything, which meant someone was here.

I quickly ducted into a random building, hearing footsteps following me. It was the one that looked easiest to get in to so I slipped in the door, glad that it wasn't locked.
I heard a mass of people walking down the hall so I ducted into a room, listening to them pass until a door shut. I quickly looked out the window in the door. Seeing that the coast was clear I bolted out of the room and down the hallway.
I quickly ran for some time before I decided to look in a room. I picked the biggest doors that were in the dark hallway and opened them.
I couldn't make out anything other than the faint outline of chairs as I walked into the room so I ran my hand along the wall until I found a light switch.
The lights took a moment to turn on, so I closed my eyes before I could be blinded, again. After a few moments I opened my eyes to see I turned on lights for a stage. They were hanging off the ceiling in front of the rows of chairs pointing towards the stage and the stage was brightly lit, and the whole room had a dim glow from the lights.
I saw instruments on the stage and my curiosity got the best of me; I slowly walked up the stairs of the stage. I saw many different instruments, drums, a grand piano, saxophones, trumpets, flutes, clarinets, trombones, even the long metal cylinders hanging that someone hits with a wooden mallet.
I was so amazed at all of the instruments, I immediately fell in love! I grew up learning how to play most of them, and I was brought a calming layer of happiness remembering back when my parents actually cared about me.
Wanted to play one, but I didn't know who had last used them, and I was not going to get sick by playing a contaminated instrument. So instead I turned to the piano.
It was a white grand piano, beautiful and shining in the bright lights. I ran my fingers over the keys, too afraid to actually play it, in case I would break it or someone would hear me.
I sat down cross-legged on the piano bench, knowing it wasn't how I was supposed to be sitting, but it was way more comfortable that way. I laid my fingers out on the keys, forgetting my worry of someone hearing me, and played the first song that came to my mind, Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri.
I played the piano music and the notes the singer would hit since I can't sing at the moment, and even if I could, I wouldn't want the people here to hear me.
I was in the middle of playing a song when I heard a door slam shut, making me flinch forward and my fingers press into whatever keys were under them.
